Easily the BEST eye doctor I have seen since having a prescription for glasses nearly 25 years ago. He has top of the line equipment for testing that others lack and his staff is fantastic. Most important of all he knows his stuff and is extremely personable. Thankfully he has the equipment and ability to perform more detailed exams. He found some irregularities with my eyes and referred me to a great retinal specialist. Getting on their schedule was a breeze and everything went smoothly with Dr. Wold. Patient first care is not their priority. My husband has had a stye for 3 weeks and from prior experience we know they typically absolve within 10-14 days. With work travels he was into his third week and it still wasn't much better so I called on a Tuesday, left a message but wasn't called until the next AM. There was an appt available at noon and the receptionist booked after verifying insurance. Then before we ended the call she said she had a message from 'the back' which said they felt the issue didn't warrant an appointment that day and they could see him the following week. Huh? They were told the stye was interfering with his vision and was sore but they saw no urgency even though there was an open appointment available????? Make it make sense. We found another office who was happy to see him same day and they gained a new patient. The stye is infected and antibiotic was given. Patients look for another office. read more

Run don't walk away from this place. Eye visit was ok, but the office staff are misleading, and pushy when it comes to their offerings and products. They even told my mom over the phone that the visit would be covered by insurance. After taking the insurance information, she was charged the full rate for the exam. First time patient at San Tan Eyecare. The initial visit went well. Dr. Paul was one of the most friendliest doctors I've had. He was very informative and answered all my questions. He didn't make you feel like it was a cattle call. Everyone in the office was very friendly. However, the lower rating is due to followup or lack thereof. It wasn't clear if I had an eye infection or allergy and Dr. Paul suggested I wait two weeks to see if over the counter drops work. After the two week period, I called their office and was told Dr. Paul was in the Tempe office that week and "IF" she could get ahold of him, she'd call me back. It's been a week with no call from anyone at the office. I'm sure glad it isn't serious and I didn't lose my eyesight. read more

I completely understand the whole covid situation but the process of getting into this place for an appointment is just slow and ridiculous they have you going from the front of the building to the back of the building when it's 80° outside and then they check your temperature and it's too high because you are in the sun in Arizona on a 80° day and then they want you to reschedule an appointment after you've already made work arrangements to bring your kid in. Honestly save yourselves the trouble and go somewhere else I've been coming here for a while and after this experience I will not be returning. read more

I have been coming to San Tan Eye Care for many years and I see Dr. Wold. He is a phenomenal doctor and I have nothing bad to say about him. My problem is the scheduling and the fact the front desk makes no effort to fix their mistakes. I had Lasik two years ago and am required to have an annual exam for the warranty. The first year went great, my appointment was scheduled and I got it done. In 2022 I used their online appointment scheduler and got the confirmation it was scheduled. I showed up for my appointment and was told I wasn't scheduled for that day. I showed the lady at the front desk the confirmation and she blew me off saying there was nothing she could do and I'd have to reschedule. The soonest she could get me in was a month later. I again scheduled online after determining what days I was available but of course, still a month later and into 2023. This time I called and confirmed it showed I was scheduled and it did. I show up for my appointment and again, the receptionist is telling me I'm not scheduled. I showed her the confirmation and she blamed it on the online system being new, even though I knew they've had it for a while and the glitches should be fixed. Again she wanted to reschedule rather than try to squeeze me in, pushing my warranty work further and further away. I really like Dr. Wold but will not be going back to this office due to the negligence and uncooperative front desk employees. read more

My family was 5 minutes late to our appointment and were told that they could not see us. This is after waiting a month to get in. I am an established patient at this office and have been dealing with rx problems. The front office staff was very rude and not accommodating. It's ridiculous that they can make you wait as long as they want but if you're 5 minutes late they cancel your appointment. I work in the medical industry and this is absolutely unacceptable. Worst service ever. Dr Wold is the best. His staff is not. I had been a patient of this office since its previous location and Dr Mackolin in 1992, but I'm finally done. Every year for the past 7 or 8 the office has gotten something wrong with my order, my prescription, or my billing. They never call to check on things, follow up, or work anything out. read more

I have been going to this eyecare specialist for awhile and have had to over look inconveniences in the past i.e. contacts being ordered when they had not been ordered so I had to wait an extended period. And, I still do not believe that they have my prescription correct - so, I decided to give them one more chance before changing providers. And, the decision was basically made for me - I chatted with their apt person earlier in the week and received an apt for the same week - great was happy to get in so quickly. I have been seeing (lol, no pun originally intended) Dr. Hostetler for years and have always returned to him, including while living out of state for a few years. Dr. Hostetler is an incredibly kind and thorough person. He takes his time with you, answers all your questions, and goes above and beyond to make sure your needs are met. In my case, I shared with him that I depend on my eyes a lot. (LOL, who doesn't?) For my job, I do a ton on the computer and I need to also immediately transition to working with people - so I need my eyes (my older eyes) to follow suit. San Tan Eye Care is fantastic! Dr. Wold is great and Nicole and Chase are excellent at helping pick out the right frames. I ordered sunglasses and they came in with a scratch. The office staff was great, very courteous and professional. The low rating came from the doctor (Hostetler) who snuck in a glaucoma test even after I said I did not want it, and did not want my eyes dilated. If I don't want the test that's how it should be. I passed out in his chair (light sensitive eyes that are dialated with a bright light shined in them), and It affected the rest of my day including not being able to work. read more

Moved to Az in May 2015 from Connecticut. Had been going to previous eye doctor for about 20 years. Did research and all indicators pointed here. So glad we chose to become patients of Dr. Hostetler. Have now seen him twice for annual exams. At my first exam it was revealed that my then prescription had me "over corrected". With my new prescription my vision is much better. Then when she asked about my insurance she said she didn't know if they took it, but wouldn't take the time to find out. Even though they were in my network under optometrists. I was forgot about in the waiting room for an hour. They got my order wrong and over charged me $200 and was rude on top of that. If you could give a rating of Zero stars I would. This place is awful!! The woman who helps you select your glasses is incredibly rude. My husband and I recently saw them and my husband had asked for his old lens just to replace in new frames. The woman who helped us told my husband, who happens to be a pilot, that she hopes she's never on one of his flights. Really? I paid full price for bifocals because the staff talked me into it. I didn't like them at all and asked to just give me standard lens. I called to ask for a credit and they said NO CREDITS! So you charged my insurance for bifocals and I never got a credit for the difference. We will NOT be going back to this rude and overcharged place! read more

I love this office. The staff is cheerful and helpful. The office and doctors run appointments pretty close to on time which is the only doctor's office I know of that does. Everything is high tech and forward thinking so no more blasts of air into my eyes for glaucoma testing. Thank goodness! My eye dr (Dr. Wold) always remembers who I am (or at least makes me feel that way) but most of all, he explains things so I can understand. I have my fair share of eye issues too but Dr. Wold gives me different options and keeps me apprised of the latest eye surgeries available. He actually makes me feel like he cares, rather than being just another number or insurance collection.
