Second Opinion I have been told that I have progressive vision loss due to glaucoma and surgery has been recommended to try to slow down the progression. I was referred to this group by my Ophthalmologist, who only offers one type of glaucoma surgery. I was looking for someone to give me a second opinion and explore different surgical options. I arranged to have my records sent to this group's office. At this point, the staff informed me that first I needed to see one of their optometrists and then the optometrist will recommend one of the glaucoma specialist in their group. I emphasized that I was seeking a consultation concerning specific glaucoma surgeries, which are out of an optometrist's scope of practice. The office insisted that seeing an optometrist first is their office policy! The delay in seeing a surgical ophthalmologist would be at least 8 or more weeks for a 'new patient', no matter what! If you are in a similar situation, I suggest you avoid this group. They offer no flexibility and are too busy for second opinions. I strongly suggest that you call a smaller ophthalmology group, one that it's more sensitive to patient's needs and it's less busy. read more

I have been to this clinic for 3 years. The parking is horrible and it's a crap shoot to get a spot. I lucked out all three times. Wait time was the worse this last visit, about 2 hours total. After waiting in the waiting area for over an hour, I finally get to the exam room and have all the tests done. Then another 30 minutes before the doctor came in, Dr. La. First time meeting her and she barely took any time introducing herself. She was talking so fast and go over things so fast I didn't have time to digest all that she said. She asked if I had been informed of possible glaucoma, and I was shocked because I had not. She quickly explained what it meant and then off she goes. No concern for me at all. She was in the exam room about 10 minutes tops. I will be finding a new clinic. read more

So the doctors are great. The staff is nice. They treat everyone like little old people, talking down, in a condescending sort of way. I imagine they cant help it since its 99% elderly folks in there with eye problems. When they realize they dont need to speak to me like a 3 year old child they are sort of relieved. *My only issue with BDP is that it is incredibly difficult to actually get a timely appointment. * you want to be seen? Be prepared to wait 5 months. Need a follow up appointment in two weeks? Yeah the soonest will be 6 weeks. They could open three more offices between the ones in Chandler, Mesa and Phoenix and still do incredibly well. Implore them to open more offices. Expect to be spoken to as if you are a precocious child. When you cant get that follow up appointment, stand there and stare at them. It makes them look harder. When that fails, ask them to go check with the doctor who just told you he needs to see you in two weeks. They will come back with an appointment that's reasonably within that time frame. Sorry that you have to manipulate them like that but honestly they should know better than to take new patients if they cant handle it. read more

Although I have yet to have my cataract surgery, I have been so impressed by the staff at this location, that I must post an interim review. From the very beginning of my association with Barnet Delany I have been treated with nothing but respect and professionalism. The front desk staffers are among the finest I have ever dealt with in my 77 years. As my eyes were checked at several rooms and several different technicians, I felt very comfortable and respected by them and their professionalism. Yesterday I met with Lora Mills, a PA, to discuss my health and history in preparation fo the first of many procedures. From failure to return calls about prescription information until 4:55p (followed by "if you have any further questions don't hesitate to call us"-when the office closes in five minutes) on the day before surgery, to chasing surgical arrival time x2 calls following three days of waiting for call back, to being told on arrival that arrival time had been pushed earlier, and message had been left (none found on phone), delaying start of procedure, to being placed on a gurney with no sheet on it, to medical staff member who listened to one lung through three layers of clothing and blankets, who never asked if I had any allergies before giving medication to being medicated 40 minutes before procedure was started, then having to tolerate wakefulness and anxiety through the short procedure, to never getting a clarification whether eye drops should be started again on day of surgery or held until the next day (also by chasing an answer via a phone call where I went through two call takers and then waiting for a nurse when the call was to the nurse line... and the information which actually was found on medication page at the very bottom in small print, but was never noted in "what to do and not do after surgery". Despite having at least four copies of all of the paperwork given to me over the past couple weeks, instructions were not specific regarding when to restart patient's own medications, as well as new ones given for procedure and after. I will say the medical staff, by and large, were pleasant, and professional. Then there was the parking...already mentioned by another unhappy patient. I see by the number of remarks already posted that there are a lot of unhappy patients. I see no comments from the company or clinic apologizing or otherwise addressing the posted concerns. My bet is that nothing will change until profits start to fall after patients review these comments...then the you-know-what will hit the fan. HORRIBLE! Started off with no place to park. I had to park in front of a beauty shop on Higley. Waited to be seen for 40 minutes for them to tell me that Dr. La could not see me that someone messed up the scheduling. For the past 7 days this place has been blowing up my phone telling me I have a 9 am appointment today. I made that appointment 3 months ago. Then they wanted me to reschedule and see Dr. Tanner after telling them I was not happy with Dr. Tanner. Is it because I'm a man and Dr. La thinks I have cooties? WTH... Back in 2011 I went to BDP and didn't like my experience, so I went to another doctor in Scottsdale who I have been with for 8 years. Well, since we moved from Scottsdale to Mesa, I decided to see someone closer as I don't want to drive an hour each way. I was referred back to BDP and since it had been years and a new doctor I wanted to be open-minded and decided to try it again. I had an appointment scheduled with Dr. Kitzerow on 2/27/19. I never got a reminder call, so I decided to call them that morning to confirm my appointment. They said all set. A couple hours later they called me back and said they had to reschedule with me, because the doctor had to go home sick. Um ok...just strange. We rescheduled the appointment for 3/4/19. Unfortunately, I had to reschedule the day of due to a death in the family the night before. We rescheduled again for 3/12/19, which I finally made it to my appointment. However, before going in I made sure I filled out all of my paperwork from the forms online only to be told that they went paperless and need me to fill out the forms AGAIN on their tablet. I was frustrated, because no one told me this and why have the forms available? Also, if you are going paperless, then why did they print me a receipt? Why not email it? It doesn't make sense. As I was filling out the forms AGAIN, they called me back. The tech was taking information and I continued to fill out the forms on their tablet and eventually finished them. Then she asked questions that were already on the form. Huh? Why did I fill out the forms then if you are going to ask me anyway? She also wanted my list of medications, which I gave her my hand written form to go off of, since I was not going to go over it again and it was just as easy for her to read and type it. During this time, I was trying to be friendly and make small talk. She wasn't haven't it though. Nice! After she was done with putting in my drops and trying to get my eye pressure, she was frustrated because I couldn't keep my eyes open. Sorry, but when I see something coming I am going to blink. She held my eyelid open and even though I appreciated the help, she had long fingernails and I felt like she was scratching my eyelid. Then, she told me to sit in the waiting room for the next tech to come and take pictures of my eyes. I told her I needed to use the restroom and she seemed annoyed at that. I got back and the other tech was waiting to take my pictures. I tried to make small talk with her, but again another non-friendly tech. I asked if she was going to do the field test, which I have always done with my other doctor and she said no. Finally, I go back to wait in the exam room for the doctor. It was probably 20-25 minutes before she came in. She did not shake my hand while introducing herself. She did not smile, did not make small talk, didn't ask anything about me and didn't realize she cancelled her appointment with me or anything. She never asked how my eyes were and she never asked if I needed an RX, which I forgot about. She briefly checked my eyes and then told me to come back in 6 months for the field test. I asked why they didn't do it today and she said they like to spread out the tests and want me to come back every 6 months. I told her I have never done that. She said. "Well, based on the health of your eyes (dry eyes and glaucoma suspect) that she wanted me to come in. Keep in mind, they have records back from 2011 and when I asked if anything changed from then until now she said she didn't know. What??? She said she needed my current records. Why??? You should know from the baseline in 2011 and be able to compare it do the pictures today. I thought this, but never said a word to her about it, because I was already fed up and knew I was done. I am not coming back every 6 months when I don't have glaucoma and haven't had any changes over the years. Once a year is enough. I know they want more business and more money, but it's not necessary. It's a waste of my time and money. I don't feel like the doctor really cared about me and was cold like others have said. I tried to be open minded with BDP, but it was another bad experience with poor service. I wish I looked at the reviews before going to them again, but my search for a better doctor and friendly techs will continue....I will not recommend BDP to anyone. read more

I arrived 20 minutes early to find a lobby of 20+ people waiting. I waited 45 minutes before being seen. Went to several different rooms for different reviews, which was fine, but upon arriving in my final room, I could hear outside my door, a lady chatting about kids and such for almost 15 minutes, I then heard this person go into the room next to mine to speak to a patient - she spent maybe 5 minutes with the patient, came back out to the same area she was at previously and proceeded to chat again for another 5 minutes. A knock finally occured on my door, and to my surprise, it was my Doctor - the same chatty lady. She spent 7 minutes with me and left. Can not believe how long the other patient and I had to wait while she chatted away like she had nothing better to do. Horrible experience... read more

This place is a joke. They do not care about your time. We made an appt for 12:10. There was only one other person in the lobby. After we waited in the lobby, they did his eye test and then we sat in another waiting room for 30 minutes. There was nobody else in the waiting room or in ANY of the exam rooms. It is clear that they were at lunch. We then sat in the exam room waiting for the doctor for another 30 minutes. When I opened the door to ask how much longer the doctor was standing there just talking and said "you should be next." It is so disrespectful and inconsiderate. They need to not schedule appointments during their lunch time and then have the patient wait. We will be finding a new eye doctor. read more

This is the eye center my insurance company recommended so I went here to get my eyes checked. I had to sign a release that said if I wanted them to check my eyes for a prescripción it would cost me $52. So I signed it but when I checked out they would not give me the prescripción until I paid them the $52 I thought that was really sneaky. I won't go back to them. read more

I have been getting my eyes examined here for over a year here now. Dr. Anderson is easy to speak with and he is really personable. The facility is large and they have a great system on how they take customers to the back. The only problem I had was we were not seated 6 feet apart while waiting for the doctors in the waiting rooms. read more

Pros: -Convenient scheduling -Email and text reminders -Professional technician and doctor Cons: -Rude front desk staff -$45 refraction fee TLTR Version: I scheduled a 7:15 am appointment after finding this facility through my insurance. They emailed me the paperwork to do beforehand, and sent email and text reminders to confirm my appointment. My calendar gets pretty crazy, so I really appreciated the additional follow-up. Upon arrival, there were two extra forms: 1) HIPPA release (Pretty standard) and 2) Refraction Fee Agreement. I had a problem with the latter. The doctor charges an additional $45 fee to write an eyeglass prescription, which most insurances don't cover. WHA??? Isn't that the whole point of going to the optometrist? Why would you charge me a fee on top of the exam price? I asked the front desk staff if she could check whether or not my insurance covered it. She blew me off, and said I had to sign the form regardless. RUDE! I told her I would take the form to review, and called the insurance company myself. My insurance told me I shouldn't have to pay an extra fee, and was only responsible for my $10 co-pay. The receptionist called my name as I was still on the phone with the insurance agent, so I sent my husband to tell her we would cancel the appointment and go elsewhere. She then changed her tune and said it was covered. Why didn't you just look it up and tell me that in the first place? The receptionist had a really sour attitude, and made me feel very unwelcome. Fortunately, the appointment only improved from there. My technician Katie was professional and kind. She took very good care of me during the exam. I felt like she was experienced, and very personable. She answered all my questions, and put me at ease. The exam room was clean and comfortable. Dr. Jared Anderson came in shortly after Katie finished my preliminary tests.She wasn't even gone five minutes before the doctor arrived. His expediency was a refreshing change from the painfully long waits I've spent in other doctors' offices. Dr. Anderson is very young (picture NPH's Doogie Howser), but he's no rube. He was very thorough in his examination, and gave me the good news that I have healthy eyes. He, like Katie, was incredibly hospitable, and made me feel like I was in good hands. Terri, the employee who helped us at check out, was also very polite. She charged me the $10 co-pay, and answered my questions about getting frames. Her personality was very warm, and she seemed to enjoy her job. I would give this office a higher rating if I hadn't had such an abrasive experience in the beginning. Also, they could offer better reading material in the lobby and play something a little more entertaining than an optometry video. FYI - This facility only does eyeglasses. I have had excellent care at Barnet, Perkins, Dulaney. I had cataract surgery in November 2018. It was also excellent care. At my six month check up my provider said that there was scarring developing behind my right lense. He scheduled me for yag surgery. That all went really well. I was told twice that it would be at no charge because the surgery had to be done within the one year window of the surgery. The day of surgery I asked the lady when I checked in if I had a co-pay. She told me, "no" because it was being done at no charge. In August I received a bill for a $200 co-pay...so I called. Once I explained the facts to the Billing Clerk he told me to hold please. He was gone for some time. But came back on the line and told me that they would adjust it off the books. In September I received another bill from them for the $200 so I called again. This time I asked to speak to the Billing Dept Supervisor. She was very helpful. She told me that she would have to call the surgery clinic. She said that she would get back to me. And, she did with the news that they were busy because of surgeries. She said that she had looked at my sheet and it said, "Do No Bill Insurance." She said that she would get back with me. She did. She called me and left a message that said that they would be removing the $200 charge from my account...and would be in contact with me in the next 10 days. I never heard from her. In October I received another statement from them for the $200 so I called and asked for the Supervisor who had helped me. They asked my name and account number which I gave them. The Billing Clerk said that she would have to see if she was available. She came back and told me that she wasn't so I left a voice mail..asking her to return my call. I have heard nothing...so I called a second time...once again the Billing Clerk said she would have to see if she was available. She came back on the line and told that she would ring me through. She did and I received a message saying that this extension was not available so I left her another message. I am tired of this. When this happens you just begin to feel negative about the whole business. So what started as something I would have given five starts to...now turns into two...and that two is because of the doctors and staff because I would give no stars to the billing department. read more

I tried to get medical records and found the medical records office staff to be totally incompetent. Sent the request per their phone recording and then engaged with office staff numerous times to be told: they didn't received request, they were working on it, the supervisor would call me back the same day. Never received a call back and was lied to by at least one staff member. This practice might provide decent eye care but the medical records staff couldn't find their asses if their life depended on it. read more

My wife had an wrinkle repair done in 11/2019 . Was told my responsibly was a little over $600.00 and that it was required prior to procedure.Paid the required amount. Shortly after procedure went back in to have our eyes tested for glasses and an eye check up for me. Was told my only out of pocket was 20.00 deductible and 45.00 for each exam for glasses. When we got there we were told we had an credit over close to 300.00 but we had to pay for our current visit. Called billing was assured we could use our credit. Got done with the exams and were then told we had no credit . She (billing agent) said it had been used on past billing issues, but the good news was we didn't own anything else other than today's visit. Which we paid. Couple of weeks later we state getting bills totaling close to 200.00 more. Doctors were pleasant but billing issues lead me to believe they have an scam going on.
