Let me just say I have never been there so this is not against the doctors. I was looking forward to Dr Wood. I called and made appointment and Mary was so nice - she said she would email the forms needed but she did not. I was able to access them online and then I sent an email through the website/contact us to make sure it was received and asked if I needed to do anything else. No response. I called next day, left message saying I sent a contact us and please email me - no response. I called the next day and cancelled appointment - which seems to have happened in minutes. Unfortunate - I hope Dr Wood reads these reviews. read more

Worst front staff Ever! Don't answer their phones, they don't check their voicemail. They charge at least 3 times what other eye centers do for the same thing. I Liked the doctor but their front office ruins everything. Feel bad for Dr. Woods as he probably has no idea what's going on with his staff. Called 2 weeks ago and spoke with a girl to make an appt. She asked for every piece of info from me but didn't ask if I had vision ins, which I do. I get to the office and they don't take my insurance. I was already there so I had the same exam I could have had at LensCrafters for $49, cost me over $100! Then I had frames already and when I sat down with Shamu, she wanted to charge me almost $600 for two pairs of single lens glasses, lenses only since I had my frames! She handed me the receipt for the exam only, but never gave me the prescription. I called the office about an hour later and after trying for 5 times, they finally answered the phone. I told the girl that the other girl I was working with never gave me the script. She puts me on hold then comes back on and tells me the girl said she gave it to me. I said to her "what the heck is going on there?" I then get an email an hour later saying I'm no longer welcome at their practice due to profanity! I had, and have no idea what they were referring to but I wasn't planning on going back anyway. This office is a scam! Their charges are ridiculous, and front office just plain ignorant read more

My wife went in for an exam and ended up ordering a pair of glasses for just under $300 out of pocket (2 days after i ordered a pair for about $170). When I got home that afternoon and she told me the price, i immediately called to see why they were so expensive. No answer. The next morning i called back. Again, no answer. I finally ended up driving down there asking about canceling the order due to the extreme price. The woman helping me called the lab to confirm the glasses hadn't been started yet (they hadn't even received the frames in the mail), and let them know they might be canceling the order and to place it on hold. I was told the manager would get involved and reach out. A couple hours later i was told I was stuck with them, even though i explained we felt like we were getting ripped off, based on how I was quoted $78 from a competitor for a better pair of frames that even included the anti glare ( an $80 upcharge we had to pay from this place). She then tried saying that they can't cancel because the lab already started on them. Unfortunately, that was a lie, because what she didn't know was that a call had already been made confirming they hadn't started on them. Needless to say, they could have given me a refund to take care of their customer, regardless of their policy. This was a decision made by management, that could have gone either way. They chose not to, so they will be losing 4 patients, since our entire household was going here. Really disappointing read more

A bunch of liars at this practice. I love Dr Wood, he got me seeing better than I have in years. Unfortunately, his office staff and the lab where he has glasses made are incompetent at best and malicious liars at worst. Even though I paid for my glasses in full upfront it took 2 months to get them. Whenever I called to inquire what happened to my glasses they tried to blame my vision insurance for the delay. Since the glasses were already paid for, clearly this is an excuse for their incompetence. Not sure where I'm going to go for eye exams now as this is the second office in the valley that has violated my trust. read more

I went in for my yearly exam today and as usual, the staff was very friendly and efficient. The testing/exam is very thorough and Dr Wood takes the time to explain what is going on with your eyes and what might need to be done in the future. I'm self pay, and I think their pricing is very fair! I'd recommend this practice to anyone! read more

The care from the doctor was very good. The communication and organization from the office needs much improvement. They don't answer the phone, and it takes at least half a day to get a response from an email or text. I'm writing this negative review based on my experience 10.2.2020. Our family has been utilizing Gilbert Family Eye Center for about 10 years. I was there to have my lenses replaced; in doing so they cracked both sides of my frames. When the associate told me what happened and I responded vigorously, her responded "You signed the waiver". That I did. It's important to note that I've had the lenses replaced 3 times, since and including my original purchase. No damage in 2016, 2017 or 2019. After the shock, another associate asked me to sit and let her check the price and availability to replacement the frames. This so-called manager came out and the associate looked up at the manager and as if to say 'is there anything we can do for the customer' and the manager froze and said nothing like a 'deer in the headlights'. I paid the $80.00 to have the frames replaced. I'm required to wear glasses while driving; I'm a delivery driver for a well-known brand. This is how I make a living. This office is staffed with young adults, maybe late-age teenagers who may lack real work experience or don't really have a clue about customer service. They didn't offer to help, they did nothing! I left with my broken frame and lenses in hand. I cannot recommend Gilbert Family Eye Center. read more

Don't use this facility. In March of this year, I ordered new frames and lenses. The first trip back was when the prescription was wrong. The next two returns were when the left lens fell out of the frames. The fourth return was when I was told the lens was falling out because the frames were defective and that I needed to order new frames. I did and reluctantly paid $15 for new frames. The fifth return was when the same left lens cracked where the frame and lens attach which I noticed immediately when I returned home from getting the new frames. Now the Gilbert Family Eye Center tells me that I need to pay another $15 for lens replacement under the warranty. I'm sorry but enough is enough. I paid around $350 for the new frames and lenses in March. I only bought the glasses for reading and I have only used them a maximum of six times since buying them. To tell me that I need to pay more for what is a clearly an inferior product is ridiculous. There are lots of places to get your glasses, look elsewhere. read more

My son (3 years old) and I have both seen Dr. Wood in the past year for 3 separate visits. The staff is really nice however we've had an issue with getting my son's new lenses and it seems as though they just don't care. I ordered his updated lenses a month ago and they said it'd take 7-10 business days to get them in. I called at day 10 and they said they hadn't arrived but should soon. I gave it another week, nothing. I called again, they said "that's weird, it's showing they'll be shipped on 6/28/21" which was still another few days from that phone call. She said she'd look into why it was taking so long and get back to me. Nothing, no one called back. I called again on 7/1/21 hoping they had arrived. Nope, they did not. I asked the sweet girl on the phone to please find out what was happening and to have the correct person give me a call and that no one ever calls me back. The other girl did call me back, again- really nice, but made promises she didn't keep. She said she'd call the manufacturer today at 10am and call me right after with answers. I asked her to PLEASE call me back before the long weekend. Nothing. I called at 11am and left a message. No call back and now they're gone for the long weekend. I even responded to their automated text messages asking me why I was calling and still, no one responds! They also had the wrong lenses the last time we had to order my son's lenses so it's just been a mess. We will not be returning to this office! read more

Dr. Wood is a very good personable Doctor. However, his staff is inexperienced and unable to answer basic patient questions about billing or administrative concerns. I had some questionable billing practices at this office and when I questioned those practices the staff refused to discuss those concerns or allow me to discuss those with their billing manager. Dr. Wood is personable and a good doctor but when a patient has issues with questionable billing practices and that patient is told that they are not entitled to an explanation about their bills. I will just say that this is only the second time I have ever been to an eye doctor. In my entire life. I've never had issues with my eyesight fortunately enough. One of my coworkers recommended Gilbert Family Eye Care and when it comes to doctors, I'd rather go on recommendations than what is closest to my house. Being that this was only my 2nd eye exam and my previous one I don't remember all that well, I walked in not really knowing what to expect. The receptionist had me fill out the typical forms and I only waited a matter of a few minutes before I was brought back to begin my exam. I went through a series of tests in which each one was explained to me beforehand. It was very comforting to know exactly what I was getting into. Rather than having my pupils dilated I had a photo taken of them, which saves the drama. It was so quick and simple and the results of it were amazing to look at. The back of your eyes look like crazy planets. Just sayin. The doctor went through the test results and the pictures for me and told me things I never even knew about my eyes and double checked before I left to ensure all my questions about any of the results had been answered. He was super friendly and informative and I felt completely comfortable there. What do I wish was different? I inquired about receiving a digital copy of the photographs that were taken and was told they would be emailed to me. After waiting a day I called back, and was told they would be sent today. I still haven't received them, which means I have to find time to call back tomorrow. read more

My daughter and I were seen by Dr Mcburnie and I was so impressed at the care we were given. Shelby at the front checked us in in a friendly way. The assistant Ally handled my daughter so well as she got her situated into the eye examining machines. Her queues on how to open the eye and where to look were clear and easy for my daughter to follow at her young age. Dr Mcburnie was thorough as he listened to my concerns and gathered information. The questions he asked helped me to better connect with my worries so I felt able to communicate my thoughts. I was impressed how smoothly Dr Mcburnie and Ally worked together. They were in sync as different lights were dimmed and the examining instruments were passed back and forth. Dr Mcburnie didn't have to tell her what was needed. I have confidence in Dr Mcburnie. My first experience was a positive one. Read reviews on Yelp and called for an appointment. They were able to see me the same day and I found the office comfortable with the feel of a small town/neighborhood doctor, which I was looking for. Too many doctors today work for chains and push their patients through the visit with minimal effort to engage in a personal connection with their patient. Not here! I met with Doctor Lance Williams who introduced himself as Lance and then took time to learn about me and my family. He was friendly and professional. Even taking time to chat with my fiance about Disney (refering to the shirt she was wearing) and inquire about our family. Gilbert Family Eye Center made me feel welcome and at home. I would recommend this office to anyone seeking an alternative to the cookie-cutter chain run stores that have the ambiance of a food court rather than a local doctor. As for cost, I found their price comparible to most and with my insurance I walked in and out (with a new pair of glasses) after a co-pay of only $10. read more

If I could give Dr. Wood and staff at Gilbert Family Eye Center 10 stars, I would. They have been amazing. I am a new patient and had my yearly exam last week. I have multiple issues going on with my eyes (including just being born that way but also 2 surgeries when I was young) and have had some ongoing concerns for about the past 5 years that my previous eye doctor was refusing to acknowledge. My previous doctor ignored the fact that my eyes have been progressively getting worse and seemed to really want me out of his hair whenever I would start to ask questions as to what was happening. When I would talk to him (and the contact lens person) about my frustrations, they blew me off and made me feel like what I was seeing, the way I was seeing, and the symptoms I was experiencing were all in my head. My experience with Dr. Wood has been the exact opposite. There is a reason I've been seeing the way I have these past few years and explanations to my symptoms. During my first visit Dr. Wood was amazingly thorough and spent nearly 30 minutes after the exam addressing every single one of my concerns. When I left I wanted to cry; I wasn't sure if it was because I was so angry with my old eye doctor, or so happy that I finally found someone who could provide me some answers. I wondered if it was too good to be true until I came back in for a follow up contact lens visit a week later, and he spent a ton of time with me again, as well as one of his students who is about to graduate with his degree. To say I am impressed with their knowledge, understanding, compassion, and commitment to their patients is an understatement. The relief I feel upon finding a competent eye doctor can't even be put into words. My eye issues have been a life long battle and I am so thankful for their care and effort! read more

One man's opinion: This business is the gold standard of both customer service and patient care. I called them in the morning before their office was open, needing urgent care. Expecting a voicemail system to set an appt, and was pleasantly surprised when I a real person picked up on the other line. I was even more surprised and impressed when I later learned that it was the Dr I saw that morning who had already set me up as a scheduled appt in the system! The care was excellent, the price was incredibly low and my follow up appt was handled equally as carefully. This business is a fantastic example of how a business should be run. I am not used to medical assistants conducting some of the eye tests, but the the medical technician explained the purpose of each test, and did them quickly. Dr. Wood was really pleasant, and made eye exam easy and comfortable. Dr. Wood is one of the best! Last year I had an eye infection that worsened. I had already been to 3 doctors at that point and was misdiagnosed. I was about to go to the ER when I found Dr. Wood's number, it was after hours (Saturday morning). I called him and he saw me within the hour and got me on the path to recovery! My wife decided to try this place out because she wanted to try somewhere else other than a Lens Crafters. The whole process of getting the glasses was fine, we decided to purchase their "warranty" coverage because our 15 year old son is pretty rough on his glasses. He broke them while camping and lost one of the "temples" of the glasses. According to what we were told when we purchased them this wouldn't be an issue to get them repaired. That was absolutely false. They just looked at the glasses and said they couldn't do anything without the missing temple. Don't believe their sales people, they're just trying to upsell to make more money. Looks like we have no other choice but to keep doing business with Lens Crafters, at least they stand behind their products. read more

Let me just start off by saying: I have terrible eyes. I've worn glasses since I was 18 months old and believe me when I say, I hate the eye doctor. That is, I hated every eye doctor I've ever seen until seeing doctor wood at gilbert family eye center. He is so caring and genuinely wants his patient's quality of life to be enhanced.
