I have been coming to this Barneys location for years. It's always a solid visit every time. They have a good selection of beers and other drinks to enjoy your evening. Came here for drinks and to roast some s'mores. There was no wait time for on this Saturday. They allow dogs, you just have to sit in the patio area. Alan was our waiter and he was very kind. The only reason it wasn't 5 stars was because I was expecting more s'mores for passing $15. Great pub location and lots of televisions with lots of games. A sports bar with lots of different decor, album covers, license plates, lunch boxes, photos, and more. Service was great from the hostess to the server to the busboys. Had I been to the bar I am sure the Bartender would have have been good too. So the food was filling and very flavorful. Now I had ordered the chorizo and eggs. The chorizo was delicious. Herbs and spices mixed just like the way mom made it. The hash browns were crispy and to top it off they brought out jam with the toast. My brother had the Barney's hash and said the plate was really flavorful as well. What a wonderful wonderful place! This is now my favorite Barneys location anywhere. Just wonderful ambience and vibes. Really nice outdoor patio on the third street promenade with cozy booths and a beautiful long bar with extremely comfortable chairs, as well as plenty of comfortable booth seating throughout the whole restaurant. A lot of very entertaining eye candy everywhere as well as plenty of games on the second level. Pool tables, Pac-Man, air hockey etc., etc.. very beautiful layout and TVs absolutely everywhere. They have some pretty fun events Monday through Friday like movie night, trivia night, karaoke night. Even a pool league! What a fun place! Skinny cocktail was made to perfection and my only complaint is the two times we ordered cocktails, we had to ask where they were. The bartender didn't seem to be focused on her job at all. Abigail was fantastic. Great personality and a great server! I had the Bueno and Solada. Taco shell was fried perfectly and all the lovely flavorful, shredded chicken and sautéed peppers and Coquita cheese and lovely amount of beans smeared on the bottom was just divine. Well, I've been to the original Barneys many times, but this is my first visit to the Santa Monica location. We very much enjoyed our visit here and we were constantly entertained by all the details of the establishment, something to look at everywhere! There's a cozy environment inside no matter where you sit and really captures a lot of the original location's vibe. The food was good, but nothing too special, but we very much enjoyed interaction with our server who had a real great positive attitude and made our visit that much more fun. we visited for a late lunch on a Tuesday and had almost the whole place to ourselves. So the Barneys bakery on Santa Monica in West Hollywood is the ultimate Barney's bakery. They have a second location in Santa Monica, which is cool like the beer selection is great. I haven't had the food, but the service is amazing and the vibe is like out of this world. I mean, you walk in and there's like car seat seats like at the bar like seats of cars it's really kind of cool not as cool as the one on Santa Monica St. Seriously I think it's kind of fitting the OG Barney's being ready is on Santa Monica St. in Weho and they open one in Santa Monica so I don't know if you know but like Santa Monica's now set up like a you can walk around with your beer type of situation as long as you buy your beer from one of the vendors in wake of all of the billings for lease and the close down businesses I think it's an attempt to bring more people to Santa Monica third street promenade but at one point Santa Monica third Street promenade was booming...I had to support the business! read more

Cool spot to catch a game. Came here on a Sunday to catch the AFC divisional round game. I think this place is more of an "eagles bar", but we just wanted a place to sit down and watch the game. They have so many TVs so it's awesome for that. Our server was great, very attentive. I got the chicken tenders and a side of fries. They were pretty solid. My sister got the margarita pizza. Really wish I had better to say... came here last night with at least 6 friends for drinks after ice skating down the street. We got here at about 8:30 and it was pretty empty. It was a Tuesday night. We crammed into a booth and a waitress finally came. I don't remember her name (I think it was Jamie) but she was friendly. We ordered like 6 drinks, fries and a couple chicken tenders/onion rings. I'm not exaggerating when I say it took 30 minutes for 3 of the 6 drinks to come and another 15 minutes for the food to come. We were finished with the food by the time the other half of the drinks came which was very confusing. I think our waitress checked on us one more time and one of my friends ordered a beer and 2 shots. That's it. It took another 20 minutes for them to come. We were literally commenting on how long each order took even for something as simple as beer. We actually thought they forgot our order. It was EMPTY so this was very frustrating. Came here after going mini golfing- I like that they have a variety of many things which made it convenient for a family with 2 kids. They opted for cheese pizza which had A LOT of cheese to the point where my youngest at one point was choking on the cheese so we had to cut her pizza into small squares. The flavor of the pizza was good, half of the pizza looked more well done than the other half. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich, it was good, if I could change something it would be to have a thicker piece of chicken- the chicken itself was really thin, so it wasn't really juicy. My husband got the Gobbler and said it was okay. I got onion rings which were good, crunchy. Our server was great. She had many tables so we weren't greeted right away but she was able to do a great job where we had refills and our food was brought out in a timely manners. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but our experience at Barney's in Santa Monica was so unacceptable that I feel compelled to share. Short version: 1. Our server had an extremely unprofessional and hostile attitude, filled with subtle (and not-so-subtle) microaggressions. He ended the experience by publicly demanding a tip in an aggressive tone. 2. The environment was loud and vulgar, even for a bar/restaurant. The music was blasting explicit lyrics during the late afternoon while families were dining. 3. Management ignored us when we politely asked to speak to someone at the end. Now, the full story: We were a group of four families, diverse in background, with teens who are working actors, celebrating a friend's son after a successful stage reading nearby. We chose Barney's for a casual early dinner, hoping it would be a fun spot for the teens with a decent menu. One of the moms even suggested it because she thought the vibe would be good. Ironically, she was treated the worst. Right off the bat, our server's energy was off. He never introduced himself, didn't smile, and seemed irritated from the start. A short, middle-aged, bald man who frankly seemed miserable in his job. When we asked to split the check by family, his attitude turned worse. Instead of simply saying it wasn't their policy (which it clearly was, since he ended up doing it), he scolded us like we were clueless. He claimed no restaurant allows that, which is just false and frankly condescending. Whether it was our diversity or family setup that triggered him, he made it very clear that we weren't welcome. Despite his tone, we thanked him and kept things friendly. We were there to celebrate, not argue. Still, he continued acting like we didn't belong. Several adults didn't order alcohol, and he looked annoyed by that. Then when we asked about their "famous chili," he flatly told us it wasn't very good and acted as if he couldn't care less if we ordered anything at all. It was bizarre. The food? Mid-tier at best. My sweet potato fries were soggy, not worth the upcharge, but the rest of the meals were edible. Nothing memorable. At the end, things escalated in a way I've never experienced in all my years dining in LA. One of the dads stepped out to feed the meter. Apparently, he had told the server he'd tip him in cash. Everyone else had already paid and tipped, including us (we tipped 20% despite the service). As we were getting ready to leave, the server loudly confronted the entire group and yelled across the restaurant: "Hey! The guy in the hat said he was gonna tip me $20 in cash and I didn't get anything!" We were stunned. It was beyond unprofessional; it was humiliating. His wife was confused by what was going on, and I explained it to her. I let the server know her husband was coming back. The server rolled his eyes and stormed off. Moments later, as she came out of the restroom, he was glaring at her and motioning for her to leave, as if dismissing her like a nuisance. We decided then to speak with a manager. The host said they'd get one. We waited 5-10 minutes. No one came. It was clear we weren't worth the time. When the dad returned, he was still going to tip the $20, but after hearing what happened, understandably changed his mind. Also, the atmosphere? Absolutely raunchy. It was 5PM on a Sunday and the music blasting had lyrics like "eat my f--ing p--y" on repeat. Even the teens gasped. We're not uptight, but it felt more like a strip club than a family restaurant. There were other families with younger children looking visibly uncomfortable. If I'd been alone or with small kids, I would've walked out. Bottom line? * Large parties? Don't bother. * Families? Not welcomed. * Diverse groups? Be prepared for bias and attitude. * Not ordering alcohol? You're a problem. * Thinking of tipping in cash? Better leave it fast or risk public shaming. Worst dining experience I've had in 9+ years living in LA. Contrary to our server's stereotype, we do dine out, and we do tip well. But this was just plain disgusting. We won't be back, and I strongly advise you to skip it too. read more

Went to Barney's last week for late lunch while shopping on the Promenade with the anticipation the experience would be as good as the last time I was there about 10 years ago. Not. Took 10 minutes to seat us with open tables the entire time. Hostess said they'd bring menus to the table so "sit anywhere". Sat and waited while all the other tables were given menus. Walked up to the hosted after another 10 minutes and asked for menus and got "where are you sitting?". Didn't matter because that wasn't her area. Waiter finally arrived, took order, and it took about another 15 minutes to get our beers. Then another 10 minutes to get food. Food was ok but not great. Philly Cheesesteak was basic as was the fish n chips. Waiter said the dishwasher, and a couple others called in sick. Not surprising but the staff couldn't handle the limited patrons that were there. We later realized it wouldn't matter if the entire staff were there, we get bad service and poor customer service anywhere in Santa Monica: pier restaurants, Sephora, Silver Lake Ramen on the Promenade, NOW massage. Welcome Tourists, this is what we deal with. What's worse, we spent the last week on Colorado and had amazing service in three different cities everywhere we went. The short of it: Need a place to park your butt for a bit, while enjoying a cool beer and a burger? This is the place. The long(er) of it: It's the Beanery. Those of you who know the original will recognize this as a "son of the beanery" and it's a decent clone at that. The burgers and anything involving chili are the go to menu items. The rueben was "pretty good" according to my ex-wife (who paid for dinner, which was very nice of her). My son liked the chili-dog, and I enjoyed the turkey melt. The food is a few steps above adequate (for instance the cheese wasn't really melted on my melt), the onion rings were too oily, but the sweet potato fries were solid. So on food alone it's probably a 3-star ranking. The bar has a good selection of tap beers, and makes a good Moscow Mule (according to my ex-wife who, if I didn't mention it before, paid for dinner). The iced tea is also very good. Service was friendly and efficient. So, why 4 stars and not 3? It's the Beanery. It is what it is -- a place to hang out with friends (or even your ex-wife) and just relax, watch a game or just watch the other patrons (who can watch you back, and you can watch them... getting pretty philosophical here). Oofff not the best experience. I went there with a few friends in yesterday late evening. We wanted to play pool, that's why we chose this spot. We went up to the bar counter to order our drinks. They were not very busy. One of the waitresses (blonde lady, she wore a white shirt and had pastel green nails) was talking to two male patrons who were sitting at the bar drinking. She literally refused to acknowledge us. We literally stood there for 10 minutes in front of her waiting to be acknowledged. She just kept chit chatting away with two male customers (probably hoping for a bigger tip no doubt). Not once did she look at us and say, "I'll be with you in a moment." She was seriously rude and disrespectful af. It was unbelievable to witness her deliberately ignoring us. Again it was not busy. We were finally able to get the attention of a male bartender who helped us. When my male friend went to order, the rude waitress immediately rushed over to get his drink order. It was beyond bizarre. Does she only take male customers orders, because she's under the impression that she'll get a larger tip????? Honestly due to her inappropriate behavior we will never be back. Lots of flatscreen TVs to watch the game so I can see how it would be good for game nights for folks. They have decor of old retro music albums on the tables and walls. Came to this bar on a Wednesday night and they were fairly slow. The decorations are fun and they have a big menu on newspaper type paper. I ordered the California salad wrap and it's supposed to come with dressing but they forgot it so I had to chase someone down to get some ranch because it was really dry. It was good size but the ingredients could have been spread out better (turkey, Brie, avacado, bacon and tomato, cheddar)-some bites were very leafy. The bacon was also very chewy. My boyfriend got the burger and hash browns but they brought fries instead. Overall the waitstaff seemed uninterested. It looks like they have some space heaters and you can dine outside. Barney's Beanery is a longtime bar and restaurant at the Third Street Promenade that is multi-tiered with three levels, pool tables, multiple television, games and a long bar on the main level that caters to a younger audience. I was there for a debate watch party of about 200 people scattered on two floor, so it was difficult to get a waitress to take your order. In fact I didn't see an actual server on the third floor and went downstairs to the main level and order from the bar where they just two (2) bartenders and full of bar patrons. The lack of staffing was annoying. I did order an Iced Tea, Spicy Chicken Sandwich with French Fries which was expensive and somewhat edible that took about twenty-minutes to receive. The bill was like $24 and change and I did leave $30 because the staff that was working was overwhelmed. I counted four servers in a place that had at least 300 patrons indoors and another 50 or so sitting outside on the Promenade. There menu is like a newsletter which is confusing and underwhelming. I have past this place for decades, and my overall impression was not positive in any way, shape or form. Expensive mediocre food with no customer service is no way to run a railroad. I cannot recommend and would not go back with so many other options at the beach in downtown Santa Monica. read more
