I went with a friend last night for an early dinner. I do like that The Library Ale House has books galore. Our server was very nice and was on his game. I just wasn't impressed with the food. We had the Brussels sprouts which are flash fried with a balsamic glaze and parmesan. This was very good. We also had the Alehouse Burger with Angus beef, grilled onions, gorganzola, arugula, and garlic aioli. The ingredients worked well but I didn't love the meat. Onion rings were not really the kind I like. They were lightly battered and I like a thicker crispier onion ring. I might go back and try something else. read more

Came here while I was craving a burger and it hit the spot. Big juicy burger with many different options to choose from. I got the cowboy burger which came with bacon onion rings and everything you want when craving a meaty burger. The onion rings were great and they also offer curly fries which is always a plus. One of my favorite places to hang out for a solid meal, craft beer and fun conversation. Huge fan of the Alehouse Burger, onion rings and buffalo chicken salad. Everything here is definitely a step up from regular bar food. Their craft beer selection is by far the best in the area, often bringing in rare and seasonal kegs with lots of top-level local and national breweries. Almost every hostess and bartender here is friendly. I also really like that it has a slightly more upscale theme and environment without being pretentious. The patio in the back is great for large groups and watching sports. My only "complaints" are the lack of bar seating in the front area as it can often times be difficult to get a seat during prime times. Not much they can do about the shape of the building though. It can also get a bit warm inside in the summer with no AC. Overall, a fantastic place to dine and have a cold beverage. I stop here multiple times every week. read more

Came here during a weekday where there was a football game going on but there were like 10 people in the front and plenty of open seats. sat at the bar where there were only 3 patrons. It was NOT crowded at all. I believe the owner/manager was walking around greeting the regulars. I got the menu but waited like 15-20 mins and nobody came by to take my order since the bartender went elsewhere. So they know I'm there since they gave me a menu. I think I've been to this location twice and can say it's one of my favorite bars in Santa Monica. I love a good theme and they carry the literature vibe all the way through the names of the cocktails. It was pretty warm the night we came in, but on a cool evening, you can comfortably sit inside or outside. If you're by a bookshelf I'd recommend grabbing someone randomly off the shelf (we chose "1000 Places to Visit Before You die"). The food was great and they had plenty of vegetarian options! I went here with coworkers for dinner and drinks after work. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and allow you to make a reservation. We sat in the back outdoor patio - there are heaters available and it is quite comfortable. I ordered the fish and chips and a sangria. Fish and chips were $18 but a huge portion that my friend and I were able to share and feel comfortable. They have a variety of burgers on their menu and are able to make them vegetarian friendly using beyond meat. Overall we had a great time here and would definitely come again. Street parking only, found parking on 2nd street a few streets down but make sure to read signs as some parts of the street are permit only after a certain time! read more

This is a great locals bars in Santa Monica. I like this bar because it's got a super chill atmosphere, where you can actually have a conversation with someone. They have really good burgers here. The chefs cook your burger to your preference and they are really good at accurately cooking the burger rare or medium rare. I really like their Alehouse burger. I normally wouldn't think that Gorgonzola would work on a burger but it's melds perfectly with the garlic aioli. They have really good beers on tap here. I'm not just saying that, they have Pliny the elder, and little Bo pils.... Both world class beers. The service is matches the atmosphere and keeps it chill. The Library Ale House is my very favorite place to eat a burger or to take out a burger in Santa Monica, without a doubt I have also been there completely wasted and it was so good I do not know what I ordered decide from the burger or the cheeseburger with extra cheese plain but there was a lot ordered including IPAs and different beers but I like to stick to the beers that I like, such as: Mississippi Mud, Höegarden. Chiimay, and Guinness, also, Hefevisen - makes me feel College - that last one. I go through periods when I like Fat Tire, too. None are served at the bar they have very specific IPAs and I think they have a blue moon. I opted for white wine sweet dessert white wine instead. not many places serve a burger like this one I highly recommend them for many reasons they have outdoor seating in the back they have indoor seating, the game on whatever that may be and it's just really fun inside I can't tell you why (because I'm not sure, but I highly recommend it. read more

I can't say much for the food here, as I only tried their French fries (delicious), however, their monthly trivia was a blast! I came in October with some friends and we had a great time together. We came ahead of time for happy hour, and I ordered a cider. It was alright--nothing mind blowing, but the price was right. The inside of the bar is really cool, pretty small, but lots of charm nonetheless. The outdoor patio area is gorgeous, with an open roof and tons of plants. My only problem is that they leave glasses / silverware out, and so when we chose our table, I was wondering how long those glasses had been there (as there were leaves in my glass and a bug in my friend's). I would suggest they put the glasses upside down, so that nothing ends up in the glasses by accident. I would definitely come back another time, as Main Street in Santa Monica is always poppin at night. read more

LOVE Library Alehouse & have been back with my partner several times for a casual dinner and a beer! It's a great local spot for those in the Santa Monica/Venice area. Food & Drinks - so many different beers on tap to choose from, so a great spot if you are into trying different local brews. I believe they also have wine, but other than that no cocktails or hard liquor from what I know. There aren't too too many vegetarian options on the menu unfortunately, but luckily the vegan enchiladas never fail to disappoint, I've ordered them several times - so delicious! If you eat fish, the fish and chips are also such a great option. My partner really enjoys the variety of burgers on the menu as well! Service - I love the staff here, they are so kind and friendly. You can always expect great service and great suggestions on beer!! Ambiance - inside bar, inside seating and a back patio with TVs. The back patio is a bit secluded from the rest of the action but it's great for a bigger group or if you are there to watch a game. I love the aesthetic of "library" vibes here. Came here with a girlfriend after a beach day. We got seated right away, we came for lunch on a Friday, and the service was friendly and attentive. We both got the alehouse burger, I subbed in cheddar cheese for the Gorgonzola. I will say that the burger was cooked to perfection, perfectly medium rare. And the fries were crisp and delicious. my only personal feedback/preference is that I wish that they used less garlic aïoli. It seemed to be a bit much and overpowered the burger. They put some on the top and bottom bun so there was definitely more than I personally like. The bun was definitely buttered on the outside as well, so it just felt a little too sloppy/greasy for me.
