We've been here before and the last waitress was great. This time I ordered a margarita and it was nasty so I asked her to make it sweeter. She told me she couldn't do that. Which is crazy because that's her job. Then she offers another drink but said she'd have to upcharge me to make it sweeter. Barney's Beanery is a longtime bar and restaurant at the Third Street Promenade that is multi-tiered with three levels, pool tables, multiple television, games and a long bar on the main level that caters to a younger audience. I was there for a debate watch party of about 200 people scattered on two floor, so it was difficult to get a waitress to take your order. In fact I didn't see an actual server on the third floor and went downstairs to the main level and order from the bar where they just two (2) bartenders and full of bar patrons. The lack of staffing was annoying. I did order an Iced Tea, Spicy Chicken Sandwich with French Fries which was expensive and somewhat edible that took about twenty-minutes to receive. The bill was like $24 and change and I did leave $30 because the staff that was working was overwhelmed. I counted four servers in a place that had at least 300 patrons indoors and another 50 or so sitting outside on the Promenade. There menu is like a newsletter which is confusing and underwhelming. I have past this place for decades, and my overall impression was not positive in any way, shape or form. Expensive mediocre food with no customer service is no way to run a railroad. This is a good place to grab some drinks. I came here on my birthday while bar hopping and drank a few glasses of wine. The wine selection is small, I think they offer only one cab if you're into reds. That's a downer, but luckily it was a decent red. Oofff not the best experience. I went there with a few friends in yesterday late evening. We wanted to play pool, that's why we chose this spot. We went up to the bar counter to order our drinks. They were not very busy. One of the waitresses (blonde lady, she wore a white shirt and had pastel green nails) was talking to two male patrons who were sitting at the bar drinking. She literally refused to acknowledge us. We literally stood there for 10 minutes in front of her waiting to be acknowledged. She just kept chit chatting away with two male customers (probably hoping for a bigger tip no doubt). Not once did she look at us and say, "I'll be with you in a moment." She was seriously rude and disrespectful af. It was unbelievable to witness her deliberately ignoring us. Again it was not busy. We were finally able to get the attention of a male bartender who helped us. When my male friend went to order, the rude waitress immediately rushed over to get his drink order. It was beyond bizarre. Does she only take male customers orders, because she's under the impression that she'll get a larger tip????? Honestly due to her inappropriate behavior we will never be back. Came here to grab a drink with my lady and I have to say the service was decent enough, but the issue was the drinks we ordered. We both got mojitos and upon tasting them, we immediately asked for the check. All the alcohol was at the bottom of the cup, so after stirring it, we just tasted the same alcohol but watered down. I ended up splitting them in two piles one for the dirty and one for the clean, luckily we only needed half of them. Our party and other parties brought this up and they said they will fix it, still waiting. Baja Cantina (just to name a few) I called and talked to the manager at Barney's and she said you had to spend $50 per person for a reserved tabe; however, they would have tables that did not require a $50 minimum for people walkiing in without a reservation. I decided to go to Barney's with my friends. We arrived over an hour before the game. We got a seat that was not researved. We bought $10 worth or raffle tickets for a fund raiser they were having for the Humane Society. The waitress came up and said that we had to spend $50 each to sit there. I told her that I had called earlier in the week and the manager said that was only for reserved tables. They didn't believe me and wouldn't honor the phone conversation. As a result, we left with our raffle tickets missing the drawing. We ended up going to Cabo Cantina and had excellent service and good food and drinks without a minimum. After all the time and effort I spent researching, I will never go back to Barney's Beanery. We could have picked from 100 other places in the area. In addition, we would probably have spent $50 each but we couldn't guarantee it. We had other friends meeting us too. I would go to Barney's when friends visit from out of town or to meet local friends for lunch. I was completely dissapointed with the communication, service and management. During our short visit to Santa Monica, we ended up going to Barney's twice. We were staying at a hotel a couple of blocks away. We had just returned from a UCLA BB game and were starving. I ordered a Reuben). The food was good. There weren't many options around and the weather wasn't too conducive to walking around. Barney's hit the spot. The next night, we had a long day. We went back to the hotel to rest and by the time we felt like moving to hunt down food...guess what, it was raining again. We had started to walk down to the Pier, but the rain started to intensify. We were soaked and no longer in the mood for anything nicer. So...guess what, we decided to go to Barney's again. Sunday night...once again packed. Still we were seated immediately. Again, a very attentive waiter. Once again, food hit the spot. My wife just wanted dessert and I ordered a burger. Can't go wrong with either and we were happy. This isn't anything fancy. It's a place w/ a very cool vibe. It does seem to be busy most times, which could turn people off...or create a better experience. The place has TV's all over w/ mainly sports on...but there was an awards show one night and news the other evening. The menu is huge and there's something for everyone. This place is located at the Promenade in Santa Monica. We were seated at a booth outside with heated seats, which was perfect for the chilly weather outside. Didn't get to go inside, but it looked very lively for a Friday evening. While there, I had the Strawberry Daiquiri slushee, which was delicious! It was not strong at all and tasted like a strawberry lemonade slushee. Also ordered the Barney's Platter, which came with 2 taquitos, chili cheese fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and 2 chicken tenders. The Nacho Mama's Nachos were delicious as well!
