I was having an issue with my BMW and the regular shop I take it to couldn't fix it. The guy at that shop recommended Baron's and took it there for me. Baron's quote to fix it was so ridiculously low that I had the opportunity to get another major job done that I had been putting off AND some other preventative maintenance work. The owner, David, came to my home on a Saturday morning (having not met me and the shop is closed on Saturday), picked me up and took me to get my car. I thought the 20 minute ride to the shop would be awkward since we had not met but he immediately made me feel comfortable. We chatted all the way there! He is such a kind man. I am extremely pleased with the service I received! I've already given one of his cards to a friend and have a few more to pass along. I've been taking two of my cars to Baron's for over ten years. They do phenomenal work every time, and on the rare occasion I have to bring something back for rework, they are apologetic in the extreme. I had a cracked head in my BMW, and am currently a college student. Funds are kind of low, not working a job, so by the looks of things my Beemer was going down. My dad found a product that fixed cracked heads, and called around for BMW repair shops, or anyone who would do what the instructions said to do. David Baron, the owner of Baron's, was the guy my dad got a hold of, and instead of asking me to take my car in to the shop, he came to the college, and worked on the car there. I was completely stunned and relieved that anyone would take time out of their day to come and work on a random strangers car when I could have easily brought it in. Not only that, but he did so w/o charging me, as if the story could get any better, the guy is super chill. It's rare to find people that do things like this. Had to Jump start my Mercedes and bunch of problems showed up. Took it to Barons, he called me back in a few hours saying both batteries are bad and it will cost $600+ to replace and then he would be able to check the rest of the problems. I had suspected Dave the owner from my previous visit, so I went without notice to pick up my car. I took it to another independent dealer IAS. He called me back saying both batteries are good and cleared the codes and a minor fix COST $247 Barons is a rip off, he ended up costing me more than the dealer on 2 previous occasions. His classic line is "you'll be very happy and I discounted these parts below my cost', when in actual fact he just up the price of the parts and discounts them above Mercedes dealer prices. I drove down to SD to look at a used BMW at a smaller dealership. After I checked out the car, drove it down the highway and back and made sure all the simple stuff worked (radio, power windows, turn signals, air conditioning, heater), I took it to Baron's b/c it was the closest BMW specialist for a standard pre-purchase inspection (PPI). These are standard and include a test drive as well as visual inspection of the undercarriage, brake system and drive train for around $100. I had made an appointment the day before b/c I didn't want to wait around it I could avoid it. When I arrived, Dave greeted me by name, said 'hello', we discussed the car and they got to work - I went to lunch. He seemed pretty busy/focused, which I was fine with because I'm most interested in a mechanic being accurate not charming. I don't need to be coddled, I just need facts I can't procure myself. . Baron's did a superlative job on this PPI. They went far beyond my expectations for a standard inspection. First, they discovered the electrical system was throwing error codes, and the engine had some misfire codes. After asking the dealer if I could take the car to an independent mechanic he then 'mentioned' that they had recently replaced a spark plug (one? who changes one plug?) and the oil pan b/c of some leaks they had fixed. While Baron's didn't zero in on what the source was for these electrical and engine problems, they provided a couple simple (and probably affordable) options. All I wanted to know was whether or not the car was in appropriate mechanical condition and the answer was no. I suppose I could've leveraged the revised condition of the car against the price point, but at this time I'm just looking for a used car I don't have to take the mechanic before I drive it home. For a $110 inspection, I was satisfied. Importantly, Dave didn't try to sell me anything. I went in for a PPI and his guys did a damn good job. He didn't offer to fix the mechanical issues or provide an impromptu estimate for the electrical or engine issues. He just told me they weren't impressed with the condition of the car and left it at that. To be frank, I've read a couple of the reviews for this shop, and I'm skeptical of these single star reviews (e.g. Sudhir, Don M. I'm pointing at you and PPPW) because they are vague. Don somehow knows the pricing strategy for this shop? I call bullshit. I'm sure there are great mechanics that work for $65/hr and crap mechanics that charge $90+/hr, but if you want to drive a fancy European sports car and take it to the local Chevron garage, you might get what you pay for with interest. Likewise the dealership should have the most expertise, if you can deal with those bastards. Overall, if I look at any more cars down south, I'm going to drive the extra distance to have these guys look at. read more

I contacted David when my Mercedez 2005 CLK convertible would not respond when trying to open the top. I was referred by my girfriend who used him before for her BMW and she told me he would do a great job and is very honest. I was pretty worried.. as fixing a Mercedez covertible top can add up very quickly financially. I dropped the car at 10am. They told me there would be a $125 charge(probably hour work) to scan and find the problem. They found the problem by 1 pm, fixed it (a sensor problem and latch that went off) and I was on my way at 2.30pm ending up paying only the original $125. Long story short : Great service, very friendly team and extremely honest. They definitely won my business. read more

David and his crew were wonderful. I took my Mini here to get it serviced and they did an excellent job. It can be intimidating to be a female car owner. You always feel like you are being taken for a ride. Not at Baron's. When I was in the office I overheard David leaving a message for another customer. He offered to speak to the car owner's previous mechanic to find out exactly what work had been done. This impressed me as I personally would be uncomfortable relaying what type of work had been done. What do I know about cars? That's why I bring it to a mechanic! I think that Customer Service is key to keeping people coming back. Dave is definitely top notch when it comes to service. He's definitely a man of his words. I had made an appt to drop off my car at 5. When I got to the shop, everything was dark and looked like it was closed. However there was Dave, sitting in the dark. The power had gone out about noon and Dave stayed there because he had made a commitment to meet me. I asked why he didn't call me and because my phone # was in his computer database, he was unable to do so. Unfortunately I have not seen him in about 2 years since getting a new car, but once my warranty runs out, I will definitely be back to see him. read more

Stay away. These guys are sneaky. Took my BMW there for an oil change and then was called an hour later telling me that I needed replacement parts. He told me that the parts were tested and failed. I let Dave know the parts were replaced during my last visit and asked why they failed and reminded him that they should still be under under warranty. He said he'd double check the records. When I went to pick up the car he did not charge me and said the parts were not faulty and did not need to be replaced. He then pretetended to be on the phone and unable to answer any of my questions. He let his rude secratary/assistant handle the billing and would not answer any questions directly. I only wonder how many times he charged me for parts/labor that didn't need to be serviced. Stay away! read more

I have been taking my mini cooper to Baron's for a few years now, and I have always had a fantastic experience. Initially I took my car to a mini dealership in Monrovia, and they not only raked me over the coals with ridiculous charges, but didnt even fix the problem my car was having. Baron's got it right the first time I took it in, and have fixed everything else thats come up perfectly sense. I trust them, hands down! They are affordable, reasonable, honest, and are good people to work with. I don't look forward to my car having more problems, as it will inevitably have, however I do look forward to seeing them again and knowing that my car and my wallet will be in good hands- makes a potentially stressful situation just that much more bearable. read more

I took my company's BMW in as the belt popped off and was repaired by our company mechanic but the car wasn't working. After doing a full on computer scan and check for free, Jessica was able to tell me exactly what was wrong and suggested the immediate needed repair. The worst mechanic I have ever been too. Although they had great customer service and handled the situation really well. They mis diagnosed my car and tried getting $3,000 out of me. They tried saying I had a blown head gasket even though it was a simple electrical problem. They said they put a scope into my engine and tried saying they were able to see water damage on the engine. (Even though my current mechanic said that was not possible) So I went to a different mechanic (auto center of El Cajon) who was amazing and diagnosed the simple electrical issue for LESS than a quarter of the price Barons tried charging. I took my car to Barons 3 different times to get the situation figured out and they kept trying to charge more. Again everyone at barons was very nice but their ability is mechanics is subpar. I will never go back. I suggest getting a second opinion on your vehicle before you take it here. read more

I just moved here from the east coast, and finding an honest repair shop is always challenging. After getting a quote from a local BMW dealership on a faulty directional light, I decided to get another opinion and Baron's quoted me a price that was NEARLY HALF of what the dealership had estimated. Not only that, but they promised to complete the work within the same day of service. They came through on their promise and took hours less time than I'm used to at the shop I used back home. Upon my arrival for pickup, I was pleasantly surprised that they had washed my car and asked permission for a bit more time to finish a more complete detail! My rear right tire failed due to uneven wear caused by extremely negative cam. They did alignment to my 2010 535i. Assured the work is done per manufacturer specifications. When I took the car noticed the cam on rear wheel was still little negative. Knowing this is a sports car which means it might be normal but hesitant about accuracy, I called for more info. Dave, Linda and Jessica spoke to me on various moments and provided evidence that alignment indeed is done per BMW specs. Dave suggested a follow-up in 4,000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. The goal is to prevent uneven wear on the new tires. Will use them again. read more

But beware that 10% will be factored in on charging higher for parts to make up for what discount the customer thinks hes getting......it's a number game and it's wrong. It's a good thing that Barons is better than YELP, which navigated me to another shop, btw, when I found Barons and picked "Write a review." What's up with that? Anyway, Barons thoroughly inspected my ML 320, which was running rough, to the point that there was very little power and it would jump around at stop lights. Turns out the Mercedes dealer in Santa Barbara and Stuttgart Motors had NEVER really serviced the car in the last 10 years... meaning no replacement of fuel filter or spark plugs. Egad! A little more driving around and we could have been in "new engine parts required" territory. Barons made sure that our car only received the work that I needed, although they could have told me anything and, being that like most people, I know nothing about the inner workings of automobiles. The car runs great now! A month later, the driver's side window would not roll up. Barons picked the car up at my daughter's work, brought it to their shop, ordered a part, fixed it and delivered the car back within a couple of hours. They always call to find out if you're still happy with their work. We shall definitely be turning to Barons for all our repairs, which, hopefully, will not be too often. read more

I have been taking BMWs to Dave Baron for several years now: 1992 318 Cabrio, 1995 318 Cabrio, and currently a 2002 325 Coupe. I have also had him evaluate two or three BMWs I was considering buying. The results have always been at or above expectations. I particularly appreciate that he gives practical advice on how to prioritize repairs and on ways he can save me money on repairs. Last repair was a clutch replacement, and it was done perfectly and at a reasonable price. One repair some time ago was for a mysterious problem in the computer system. It took many hours for them to track down the issue, and the labor they charged indicated they absorbed some of the unexpected time instead of billing me for all of it. All-in-all, I think this is an honest and competent business, and I intend to continue patronizing Baron's as long as I have Bimmers. read more

My relationship with Baron's started accidentally. My first BMW needed work that the shop I had been using could not do the work, so they sent it to Baron's to complete the work. When I went by Baron's to see what was up, Dave Baron showed me the shop, introduced me to Charlie, the mechanic, and basically treated my like a friend. I have been taking my BMWs (first a 5 series and now a 3 series) to Dave's ever since, and I could not be happier with the service (both mechanical and customer). They never do things that don't need to be done, they listen to your needs and go the extra mile to accommodate you. And, they do excellent mechanical work at a fair price!! I don't want to list all of the accommodations, but the topper happened just this week. I had been hit from behind during rush hour a few days previously and needed some mechanical work on the car, including a new battery, as well as the body work. Dave completed the repairs, replaced the battery under warranty (even though the warranty had expired) AND took the car to the body shoip for me. C'mon - you just can't do any better than that, and you don't find shops like that every day. Do not hesitate to take your BMW (or Mini or Mercedes) to Baron's when the need arises. read more

on may 2nd 2011 i was driving down Interstate 5/805 to work doing my normal 90 in my mercedes when I approached the upcoming LA JOLLA VILLAGE DRIVE exit. wanting to pass all the cars as I normally do, I pressed the gas and no acceleration I noticed my check engine light on and immediately pulled over and got off going east and landed on MIRAMAR ROA D It was 625am so few places were open I checked some that were and each one referred me to Barons. who was Barons? I got on the computer and was so glad that i did I called, explained my problem to the front desk and from start to finish this was a first class shop..they offered to pick up my car, were extremely respectful towards my needs and had a full estimate in a matter of 45 minutes the work to be done was fully explained and I dont even remember the prices we discussed. Just knowing the car was in the right hands was very conforting (the bill was actually a bit under what the estimate) I am one who does not worry about cost, but certainly see the value in knowing honest respectful and reliable work. after only going to the dealer for this and my BMW X5, I feel that for those in the area this is a great hidden jewel.
