I am beyond grossed out, sickened, disgusted and a bit furious. I had a taste for a stuffed Artichoke. I've gotten them from Barracos in the past, probably the Evergreen Park location. Tonight I picked one up from the Crestwood location, it didn't taste right, it tasted spoiled, so I dissected it and it was full of mold. I called, asked to speak to a manager, the person, Nathan said he was a manager, I explained to him the mold, he says no,no artichokes are green. He said send pictures, I did, immediately he said let me go speak to the owner. I said I'd like to speak to the owner. The owner couldn't bother to get on the phone . So I haven't sat down to eat here in about 7-8 years. I usually order take out and enjoy my phenomenally delicious deep dish pizza at home. My family has been eating from this location since I was a baby. But since the building burned down and was rebuilt, I wanted to go ahead and experience memories in a remodeled Barracos. Unfortunately, I was EXTREMELY disappointed. The seating is open and no longer warm and intimate. There isn't an upstairs anymore. There's just a bar area, and then a open room of dining tables with a mix of black hanging curtains. I do not like the new design of the restaurant whatsoever. I don't think I'll come dine in here ever again, especially knowing what it used to look like. BUT, I WILL FOREVER ORDER MY DEEP DISH PIZZAS FROM HERE. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! Place order that was never delivered. Call to find out what happen spoke to Joey who was very rude. He said that the phone number on the order was the wrong number. Explained to Joey that even if the number was wrong the driver never rang the home doorbell. Joey then went on to say because of the weather and the crime in the area that the driver doesn't have to ring the home doorbell. Very poor customer service and will never order from this establishment again. Joey really needs to have some training in customer service. read more

I sent the below email after calling 5 times to speak with management. No response so I am leaving this publically in efforts it might help someone. On Monday 12/13/2021, I visited the Evergreen Park Barraco's location with my husband and grandmother for dinner. Our server was Alyssa. We ordered drinks, appetizers and ultimately dinner. When the dinner arrived - my entrée (Joey's Pasta) arrived cold and inedible. I alerted our server Alyssa immediately that my entrée was cold. She offered to "heat it up". A microwaved plate of food was not appetizing to me and since my husband had ordered a large pizza, I told Alyssa I did not want it reheated, but just wanted to send it back. She huffed and walked away - leaving the entree on the table. When Alyssa returned she flatly stated "We don't remove food from any checks- that's our policy". I asked to speak with a manager. Manager Carly comes to the table - visibly frustrated and repeated that the policy is that they do not remove food items from any customer check. I asked, "Even if it is inedible?" Carly responded that she herself had plated the pasta and that it was "steaming" when she did. Insinuating that I was lying. She again repeated that she would not be removing it from the check. Not wanting to cause a scene, I relented and asked Carly to box it up, which she did and brought to me. When Alyssa brought the check she sat it down and on the table and made a comment that the gratuity had been placed on the bill and actually circled the service charge on the check. To our surprise, there was a 20% service charge added to our check. I asked why the service charge was added for a table of three people? I was told that since "Covid"- the service charge is added to all checks and was then referred to small print in the menu that stated a service charge could be added. My husband and I dined at this location just over two weeks ago and no service charge was added. On my way out, I also asked one of the other customers that were seated next to us if the 20% service charge was added to their check. The customer showed me their bill and to my dismay - no charge was added I asked Carly for contact information for her manager or someone I could report this to. She told me the policy is also not to give email addresses to customers and Carly proceeded to write the phone number down for the 111th street Barraco's location and told me to call and ask for Vince. After two days, today- I was finally given your email to make a complaint. To be clear, the 20% service charge in my opinion was added as a final "dig" to my group because of the disagreement about the cold food. It was discriminatory in nature as it is clear that our table was singled out. I write this complaint because as a business owner, I would want to know if my employees were representing my brand and providing such horrible customer service. I have visited your restaurant on at least 20 occasions over the years and have never experienced such. I have attached a copy of the receipt from our table for reference. My hopes are that my email does not fall on deaf ears and someone actually cares the way customers are treated. read more

I was disappointed with the experience at this location. The hostess acted as though it was a problem to service my family and then stated it would be an hour wait, with over 6 open tables. Could be misconstrued, but it felt very racially charged. We opted to put our name on the list for a table after a suspected hour wait, only to never hear anything back. I surely won't take the time to frequent this location. I'll opt to be in a location that makes me feel comfortable and wants to be of service to me. read more

When we got there we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE US AT ALLLL. I mean did even make eye contact and walked past us several times and didn't so much as hand us a water. We held a small graduation party in the dining area of Barraco's on 95th street (about 23 guests). The star was efficient, professional and anticipated all our needs. The dining room was spacious and the table was covered with a black cloth tablecloth, giving it a more elevated look for a party. I felt the food buffet table was a great touch since it left lots of room at the table and no need for "reaching". The pizza and salads were great and we had a lovely celebration where I didn't have to worry about anything! Great job Barracos! read more

Nichols police death video in constant rotation on the televisions Pass on this franchise ! The general manager was only focused on the large parties and bringing in outside cakes for her larger parties instead of addressing the minor issue we were having. In addition, we requested the television be changed from the channel that showed the Nichols police brutality death video , continuously in rotation for at least 20m , until we just asked for the check so that we could just leave . I'm a bit confused as to why the rating is so low for Barraco's-- I've been eating here my whole life and I've never been disappointed. I got a large pizza, half pepperoni and half sausage and green peppers. The pizza was hot, delicious, and the crust had the perfect crunch. For a pizza with different halves, I appreciated how each side was equal and the green peppers and sausage didn't bleed over into my pepperoni side. I also got an order of buffalo wings, but I was shocked that there weren't any carrots or celery that came with it because it usually does. I also would've appreciated if the wings had more sauce on them-- I hate dry buffalo wings, the saucier the better!!Despite the dry wings I'll definitely continue to frequent this establishment. I'd drop a five star, but the location in Beverly is a bit nickel and dime and will add a 3% convenience fee if you want to pay by card. Honestly i worked here before and i think it was better back then but have to say ive ordered pizza for the first time here and its quite expensive and i ordered a stuffed cheese pizza that has crust hard as a rock so u might need to see the dentist after eating. Its honestly disappointing that a regular deep dish would be better then a "traditional stuffed cheese pizza" because its not cheese stuffed pizza . six of us went to the Crestwood location, ordered drinks and pizza. It took 20 minutes to get drinks. we ordered pizza and when we received them they were not what we ordered. when the server took our pizza order. we explained to her the order was wrong. she basically blamed us for the error. we asked to speak to the manager and explained to her that we didn't feel like we should have to pay for both pizzas since both were incorrect and her only response was well you ate them. Yes we ate them. We sat 45 minutes waiting for them should we have to wait another 45 minutes for the pizzas. It was already 830 at night . we asked for napkins and the only thing she had were paper napkins yet every table in the restaurant had cloth napkins. I ordered chicken Alfredo with extra sauce, it was dry. A surf and turf (medium) with a baked potato, which as you can see is overcooked and dry and the potato just looks bad. I was offered a credit even after I asked for my food to be remade. My Alfredo is already cold, but they're sending more sauce, and my surf and turf is being remade. Before the original Barraco's fire in 2016, this was our favorite restaurant. The cook was always spot-on with the chicken piccata, marsala, vesuvio recipes. The steaks were perfectly made and the pasta flavors were perfect. Now the service and ambiance are good, but the food is not cooked well and lacks flavor. I don't know if they cut back on the quality of food but they certainly are not following the original recipes of their forefathers. Sorry Barraco's we will not be back. That's not the problem though the problem I have is selling soda that is a year expired, place was dead maybe 4 tables but bar of course had people drinking. This place has been a staple in my heart since I was a kid. They've gone through a fire and now cocido-19. Stay strong Barraco's Family. I usually order a large sausage, bacon, and jalapeño pizza. It's always super good. It's a southside heart attack, but worth it. Also, get the healthy pasta. It's kind a hard to find on the menu, but it's there. It's a good and good for you item. We had a great experience x2 at Barracos Evergreen Park. The owner, management, and staff was awesome. We were playing at a softball tournament a few blocks away and came in with a party of 30 people. They were busy for lunch, and were able to serve everyone and get us in and out to get us back at the field. The food and service was excellent. Out team finished the day with a win so everyone was hungry hours later so we went back with another big party. While this time it was their dinner rush they came through again with excellent food, excellent recommendations, and excellent service. Being a staple to the Southside of Chicago I highly recommend them for any occasion: dine in, carry out, and their catering has a lot of food for a reasonable price. Also, this place does not have reservation only advertised anywhere but while I was there, they turned away three dining parties because they didn't have reservations. They referred me to the Beverly location as to say, "Eat where the other blacks eat" and only order our pizza take out but don't sit in our restaurant. A meal that could have been much better--should have been--was off on every component from service to presentation to taste. Barraco's looks like a former showroom--a large open space with concrete floors and floor to ceiling curtains that divide the large room into two smaller ones. The bar is hidden behind a wall. A curtain shrouds another concrete wall. White tablecloths marginally enhance a minimalistic--almost bleak--dining room. Chicken cacciatore turned out to be a whole chicken, which wasn't identified as such in the menu. That's a dish large enough for two or more. Perfectly steamed broccoli was excessively salted and came on the wrong diner's plate. The server then inelegantly scraped the broccoli onto another dish. Sautéed spinach was also excessively salted, as was the starter minestrone soup. The soup had the over seasoned taste of bouillon, which was confirmed by a server and--in my opinion-- demonstrates laziness or lack of skill in making stock. Grilled salmon was done right but lemon, usually common with fish, had to be requested. Before the bill came we two asked for separate checks.
