The service is cool, on weekends usually are teenagers working which is cool to see young people handling thing, during the week, it's what appears to be seasoned people They are always nice and helpful with the menu. One cool nod out is the plague to Mount Carmel HS support. Love they support my alumni. The eating area is bright, you will not fall to sleep with the bright green paint however they have a television with sports broadcasting. Very relaxed place to eat and chill. They are known for their banana shake. I get the portobello mushroom sandwich with aïoli on the side because they use a lot of it. The sandwich doesn't come with fries, so you have to get them separately. Ordered a cookie too. It was just ok, but the sandwich, fries, and shake were great. read more

Two stars because the customer service was wonderful, but the food was awful. I haven't been to Janson's since I was in high school, under different owners, so I thought I should give it a try. I've been going to Janson's for 46 years. I love their Chicago cheese dog with celery, salt, and a little bit of everything on it. They have the best cheese fries. So this rating isn't for the customer service. The customer service was fast, nice and respectful. So that's a 5. But the food was not the best. I always seen this place on TV and YouTuber channels and finally decided to try it out. It was not worth the hype. The burger didn't really seem like a housemade burger and had a gummy texture to it. The bacon on there had no flavor which was surprising because usually apple wood bacon has a salty but smokey taste to it. The only enjoyable thing was the fries. They were cooked fresh and crispy. I was extremely disappointed and honestly shocked by what I witnessed. While I was there, a man named Dimitri was loudly yelling at one of his employees right in front of customers. It felt hostile, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. No one should have to work under that kind of treatment, especially in public. A southside staple! Janson's was pretty much exactly how I expected it to be. Walk in to order and then grab a table outside or eat in the car. Everyone else who was in there was ordering milkshakes, so I impulsively ordered a strawberry one. Wow. It must have been at least a decade since I've had a strawberry milkshake. It was rich, creamy, (nostalgic) and delicious! They don't skimp on the whip cream either. I also grabbed a chicago dog and fries. These didn't blow me away quite like the milkshake, but I still enjoyed both. I imagine if I lived in the area, I would visit Janson's pretty regularly due to how quick and efficient the staff it. Our order was ready in about 5 minutes despite the decent number of customers in the (tiny) shop. Overall, definitely recommend giving the milkshakes a try if you are in the neighborhood! It's another cute spot that is frozen in time and brings you back to the 60s. read more

I ordered a gyro sandwich and a bacon cheeseburger I live 40 minutes away. When I got home to eat my bacon burger there was no bacon on the burger even though the burger cost ten dollars. When I called to complain I was told to come back to the restaurant with the burger so they could make another burger. I live that far away and instead of crediting me the price difference they wanted me to drive all the way back because that's the way they did things. I say they need to find another way to satisfy paying customers when they are already nickel and diming people for everything. Give me what I paid for or give me my money back period. ZERO STARS!!!!! So dissatisfied and disappointed. Ordered the veggie burger as I have numerous times over the last 6 years plus in person and via delivery . The quality has decreased significantly. The last several times I have had poor quality fries and sloppy burgers. I ask for for fries no salt and well done. They come soggy and sometimes with salt. The mistake I made was asking after I placed the order if they could cook the fries so as to not be soggy because I forgot to say it at first. He said the order had not been made yet so no problem. The fries that I received were hard, greasy, and tasted like fish. I removed some items from the veggie burger because I don't eat dairy. I added relish and mustard. I got the veggie burger with relish and mustard but avocado that I asked that they put on the side was missing and the onion and salsa was not on the veggie burger. I called and was told I had to come back today to get the food remade. I explained I was home with two children and did not want to have to drive all the way back over there. I guess they were afraid I was lying so I asked for a manager. Someone got on who I don't believe was a manager and said that they understood, but I have to come back over today fora remake. The attitude was so condescending and uncaring. It made me feel very uncomfortable. I explained that one of the children was eating the hotdog. And this whole thing seems so complicated because the order should've been done right the first time. I said I would not be returning to the establishment and again the person on the phone said they understand. They didn't care about my repeat business. The upside is there are only a few places that I will eat at because of dietary restrictions. So this is saving me money. The downside is they don't care about repeat customers. The beef had a good flavor, they definitely don't skimp you their peppers either. A very generous portion of giardiniera. The bread didn't hold up as I would have liked it to, but still not a big deal. My wife ordered their burgers and fries, but both weren't anything special. UPDATE AND UPGRADE: finally after a couple of times they get the order right after saying "light sauce". Salmon sandwich is delicious. Third time I've been there. Two times I ordered the Salmon sandwich, easy on the sauce because I knew from the first time they put too much sauce on it. It's a good sandwich but unnecessarily way to heavy on the sauce. This place is a regular haunt for me when I want a quick sandwich and fries. They have always been quite consistent. On my visit today, found a new younger crew in the front of the store. The young man making the shakes was about 9 or 10 years old, dressed in the same Janson's garb as the rest of the crew. He began complaining about all that he was doing and hoisted himself onto the serving counter for a rest. When I made mention of the uncleanliness of this behavior one of the adults picked up the containers off the counter, wiped the counter, and replaced the same containers back. The young man returned to hoist himself again, this time corrected by the staff. Good, legal aged, staff must be getting harder to secure. Old time fast food surviving amongst a jungle of franchise eateries, got to appreciate relics like this. Hats off also to the nearby Rainbow Cone for surviving the influx. This was my first visit to Janson's and although not overly impressed I did enjoy the Pulled Pork Sandwich. I little pricier than I expected at $7.99 but it is a substantial sandwich, I could not finish it. I did not use it, but it was nice that extra sauce was included, loved the pickles which were a nice addition to the sandwich. The exceptional bun was also substantial, worked well at attempting to contain the massive amount of pulled pork. Nothing special about the french fried potatoes, however they were very good. Of course I had to order the notorious Banana Milkshake which was spectacular, get this. If I lived in the area I'm sure I would visit often, an extensive menu that I would love to explore.
