I would love to give this place more than 3 stars I really would. But when you force someone to pay 20% gratuity on all food and drinks no matter your party size or food order I'm extremely vexed. Ambience is incredible, our waitress was wonderful, food was delightful, and then came the bill.... So all I got was an old fashion and poke bowl app and had to tip 20%. Why can't you let me tip how much I want? What if the service was bad or the food wasn't good or we wanted to tip 10% or 15%. Might seem small but I just hate being forced to tip a certain amount. Stopped by for lunch and a drink after booking our Christmas party nearby. We sat at the bar and ordered some drinks. First thing I noticed were all the gnats flying around. They're everywhere. I looked up and they were on the walls and ceiling over the bar. My friend asked to look at a bottle of tequila to order a shot, and gnats were inside the bottle! We proceeded to order some food, which I was hesitant to do considering all the gnats, but we were hungry and took a chance. Ordered chicken fried rice and it was pretty good though lacking in seasoning. Thankfully, the gnats allowed us to eat peacefully. Hats off to the bartender, Madison. I stayed New Year's weekend at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott, and the first night there I decided to check out the lounge to see what they had. It was a cool, chill lounge with plenty of tvs to watch the Cowboys game that was going on. I had the sampler platter with the Molokai Meatballs, Hanumi Fries (basically asada fries with guac), and the pork egg rolls. I was very impressed with the quality and taste of the food, definitely filled me up good. I also had a spicy mezcal drink that was delicious. Utter lack of service. I walked in and asked the bartender if I should wait to be seated. He said they had open seating. I sat and waited for 15 min. Smiled at a server, hoping she would acknowledge me and come take my order. Nope. Had to go ask for a menu. My server was nice enough, but they seemed to all spend more time gathered around the register terminal than out with the patrons. One girl brought my food without any napkins or silverware. I asked for bread rolls twice. They never came. Food was mediocre. The garbanzo coated calamari and rock shrimp had only one shrimp. The clams were INCREDIBLY salty. Views are nice, but I couldn't figure out what was going on with the waitstaff. I asked my server if perhaps they were in training, and she said they were short-staffed today. No food runners and only two servers for the deck, however, the deck was more than half-empty. I felt bad for her, but what was the management doing??? My friend came to meet me at the hotel and received the same lack of acknowledgment from the bartenders at the bar. Pretty disappointing for my first food and beverage experience during my stay at this hotel. read more

Ate here to welcome some friends from NorCal and the East Coast. The service was absolutely delightful, shout out to Chris for being warm, diligent and inviting throughout the whole night. We had a combination of the quick bites and entrees as well as select wines and cocktails, I would review everything we ate but I fear the review would be too lengthy so I'll just highlight the stars of the meal. Their Fried Calamari was fresh and delicious and didn't hold a rubbery texture at all. The cocktail sauce that followed the shrimp was so savory and not too harsh on the garlic notes. The dry aged steak was also delicious and we felt that the crisp sear it had gave an extra boost to it's texture and mouthful experience. In terms of desserts, we ordered all of them but the chocolate melded so well with the ice cream and sliced fruit it was practically a heavens bounty. So we tried to be as understanding as possible. The 2 of us females.had to order almost the entire menu to feel like we had a meal. The portion sizes were ridiculously small.... We stayed in Dana Point for the week. Stayed here at Marriott where this restaurant is located. Came in late st night just for dessert. Not busy at all. Friendly crew. This dessert was recommended and was delish. Yup you are paying for warm donuts, ice cream and fresh fruit. Don't forget the amazing view as well. This dessert presentation and flavor is what you would expect from most upscale restaurants in the area, but it wasn't too out of the norm for kids. Just right!! This very spacious lounge includes an outdoor deck area too. The electronic menu was actually wonderful with beautiful pictures of cocktails and each dish. Very helpful. I gotta tell you coming here was a phenomenal experience, My first meal on my West Coast Road Trip with my Brother. We were originally supposed to go to Chapter One: the Modern Local in Downtown Santa Ana (but Nathan was exhausted and he lost most of his Appetite, I guess 8 1/2 hours of being on a plane will do that to you). so we just decided to dine at the Resort. We were sat in the Middle of the dining room, I already know what I wanted Nathan just wanted something small to ease his stomach (because of the Flight). I started off with an Appetizer called the Perfect Storm: Fried Calamari & Rock Shrimp with a Sriracha Aioli (Light Crispy Battle on both Seafood, and still perfectly Cooked) For my Entrée I had a Plate of Linguine & Clams (There was probably about less than 40 Clams on my Plate with Bits of Fresh Roma Tomatoes, Some Heat from the Chili Flakes and the big Slices of Garlic Bread that you soak up the Clam Sauce with), I get to wash it all down with a Tall Glass of Stella Artois. All Nathan had was a plate of Tortilla Chips with Guacamole. The Next morning while we were checking out and on our way to San Diego, Nathan went to go talk with some guys he socialized with in the Hot Tub the night before while I decided to get some lunch. They put me at a table near the door leading Outside, out of all the Resorts that I've stayed at his was the best one I've stayed at. I got their Signature Burger, Black Angus Patty topped with Cheddar Cheese, Jalapeno, Bacon, Tarragon Aioli on a Potato Roll with Shoestring Fries (Burger was Seasoned nicely, cooked Medium, Heat from the Jalapeno, Richness from the Tarragon and the Bun was nicely Toasted). Thin Strips of Fries nicely crisp like a Pretzel Stick. Service was amazing, My waiter was kind topping off my water glass so quickly. Very friendly to talk to and have a casual Conversation, I thanked them for their hospitality and I headed out. Next time I come out to California and need a place to check into, I'll Resort to this Place. read more

We stayed at Marriott Laguna Cliff for the memorial weekend and had dinner here Sunday night. Ambiance was upbeat, fun and comfortable. A bit loud that night due to the live band but it didn't bother us at all as the band was really entertaining. They were older folks yet they played top 40's, popular 80's and 90's songs that appealed to our party of 5. They put their own spin on most of the songs they played and we really had fun listening to them while enjoying our company. We initially stayed out by the deck, relaxing and enjoying the stunning Dana Point view and harbor. We welcome the fireplace and lamp warmers but decided to move inside as the night got colder. The food was expensive (as expected) and mediocre at best. The portions were average. We ordered Rib eye, Chicken Penne, Salmon, Pasta Marinara, Trio desert and rounds of Mojito - which was watered down, mostly ice and lime in a small glass for $12 per. Our server was friendly however, the service is unfortunately lacking due to the overly long wait. She was always missing. I had to stand up from our table to go to the bar; more than 3 times to request refills or to ask for simple items such as utensils, condiments and etc. A simple instruction such as no ice on one of our drinks was not followed when she did in fact acknowledge it. The wait for our food to be delivered was more than 35 mins and the steak was warm not hot. The trio desert arrived at room temperature hence melted. When we requested for an additional desert, we were warned by our server that the wait will be another 30-40mins for a banana split. lol. So of course, we opted out of that. Granted, it was a busy night. Hence, we still left in good spirit and gave her a 15% tip. Despite the long wait and lacking service, we did enjoy our time here. Mostly bec. of the company and the live band. If not for latter, this place deserved 2 stars rating at best. read more

I have been to the overvue lounge many times and I've always been treated kindly by the bartenders. Months ago I noticed they hired a new one. I didn't think much of it until he very loudly and clearly started complaining about his job in an extremely unprofessional way. Me and my friends were shocked because we've never seen such a angry bartender complaining about being a bartender. We joked that we must have accidentally walked into a dive bar. Not only did he seem to be the only one with his mask off but he was swearing and extremely angry. It was as if he wanted everyone to hear him and I can assure you we alI did. I understand people have bad days but we just left. Next time we went in it was early November, we saw him again. This time I asked what his name is and he said Alex. Now As a guest that frequents that bar, or at least used too, I decided to give him a chance but after I asked his name he came off as condescending and arrogant like "how dare you ask my name" He clearly didn't want to be there or be bothered because he was too busy complaining about something again. His language was embarrassing and we couldn't help but wonder why management has done nothing about this. He has a foul mouth and he managed to make us extremely uncomfortable when he started talking down to most of the other employees there. This was extremely uncomfortable to watch so we left again. I recently went in because surely someone has said something by now and his behavior can't be allowed at a 4 star resort but no, we saw that he was still there sat at a table to avoid him. We watched him leave the bar with his head shaking as if something terribly wrong happened. But considering his consistent poor attitude The only terrible thing happening in that bar is Alex. Great food (we really like this current menu over past menus), even for the kids (steak cut seasoned fries for the win!) and pretty reasonable considering the location and quality of the food. Very friendly service and perfect outdoor dining during Covid. Tables seated far apart and clearly sanitized. Nice ocean breeze. Loved the Lantern Bay salad! Very fresh and homemade ingredients. The Perfect Storm (calamari and rock shrimp) was okay but nothing special. The alcoholic drinks are outrageously expensive ($16) and don't taste good. Overall I think it is good quality food that tastes good. read more

This place has the potential to be a great little spot to get a drink. This place did have great service but the cocktails were not worth the expensive price tag. It's a hotel bar, I get it, but when you charge $16 for a craft cocktail you need to be on par with the other bars in the area. There are some bars in the area, that are in that price range, that use fresh juices and high quality bar ingredients, to produce a well balanced, high quality, original tasting drink. I would love to get the same without having to leave the hotel property. read more
