I've been enjoying checking out the various spots at River Street Marketplace, and Capo Leisure House has quickly become one of my favorite happy hour stops in the area. One of the things I appreciate most is that the happy hour actually feels like a good deal. Happy hour runs all day on Mondays and Tuesday through Friday from 2pm-6pm, with $10 cocktails, $6 beer and wine, and a few food specials that are worth ordering. We went with the chicken nachos ($10) and the taco special ($10 for two tacos, with mix-and-match options like birria, carnitas, chicken, and sweet potato). Both were surprisingly generous portions for happy hour items. The nachos came loaded with toppings and could easily be shared, while the tacos felt substantial rather than the smaller portions some places serve on their happy hour menu. The space itself fits right in with the River Street vibe. It's casual, lively, and makes for an easy place to hang out with friends after work or spend a relaxed afternoon grabbing a few bites and drinks. The entire marketplace has become a fun destination, and Capo Leisure House is one of the spots helping make it worth the visit. Capo Leisure House is located inside Rodeo River Street Marketplace in San Juan Capistrano and they serve some of the most delicious eats found in this small food hall, thanks to Chef Michael Campbell. I've had their Smoked Birria Brisket Tacos before and they were delicious; however, I am head over heels for their Blue Corn Beer-Battered Fish Tacos. The flavor of these tacos were up my alley and just the perfect thing to eat al fresco under the sunny sky and gentle breeze. It's so... California. Smoky, fresh, crunchy, a little citrusy, and just absolutely delicious! One of my favorite fish tacos I've ever had. We also ordered the chips and salsa but the chips were a little hard and stale. I prefer thinner chips. The service from the young lady was just mid. I came during early dinner hours and would have loved if her personality was more upbeat - at least a smile would do - it would add to the whole experience. Overall, Capo is worth checking out. The food took some time to prepare but it was worth the wait. They served delicious food. And we enjoyed eating it in the patio. I'd definitely come back and order the fish tacos again! read more

It makes me sad having to write this because Capo has been our favorite date night spot but we went last night and I was just so disappointed :( We went on Friday night and we were able to find a table. We noticed the menu changed so we were excited to try their new menu items. We loved their cheese fries so we ordered that but the worker told us they don't do carnitas anymore and now it's between birria or chicken so we went with birria. I wish I took a picture but right away I clocked that they looked different then before. Like my previous photo showed, they didn't include any guacamole and avocado bits. All it had was birria and a bit of cheese cause. When it was brought out, we asked them for more cheese sauce and both the server and the person who brought the food were there when we asked - we never got extra cheese sauce so the fries were dry. The server kept passing our table but never checked in on us or brought the sauce. The fries were our favorite and they were so disappointing this time. We ended up not ordering any other food and going somewhere else. We also ordered drinks: farmers daughter and the house margarita. The margarita was my go-to but it just wasn't good. It tasted sour and was not good at all. Maybe it was an off day for them but every time we come, we have a great experience - food and service. Great first visit to Capo Leisure House located inside the River Street Marketplace in SJC. Breezy, open air brewery with lush decor including comfy nail studded leather chairs, and beautiful large lighting fixtures. It was a busy Saturday when we stopped in so instead of waiting for a server, we popped up to the bar ourselves and grabbed their west coast IPA which was light and hoppy, really delicious. They have an extensive fun cocktail menu and wine menu along with food. We skipped the food and just settled in for some beer and people watching. From our spot near the bar, we could see the wide lawn in the center of River Street Marketplace and all the people enjoying the gorgeous day. Had dinner here with three other friends on Sunday evening of Memorial day weekend...it was crowded but fun to see lots of families out together. I had the Burnt ends Bowl, very good, others had Cevicha that came with blue-corn tortilla chips, also the burnt ends sandwich. We all liked the meals...I forgot to take pictures...ugh. Very basic in the presentation but satisfying. Plastic utensils...but this is expected because it's outside dinning. The drinks were well made...kind of pricey. We popped in early on a Saturday night and bellied up to the very lively high energy bar.... Grant, our bartender for the evening took wonderful care of us. We enjoyed a Sonoma Coast Pinot, with our short rib, tostadas, guacamole, and chips. FYI.-guacamole has a hint of honey so you better like a little sweetness. And then not too spicy wings.. We were able to listen to some twangy country music, people watch on a super clear, beautiful Saturday night. Very dog friendly, and apparently extremely baby friendly... You can reserve a table or you can just wing it like we did there's tons of tables to pick from if you get there early or you can just sit at the bar. Lovely bar in such a great area! They make an assortment of craft cocktails, and I believe also have their own brewed beer. One of my favorite aspects about this place was the indoor and outdoor ambience. They had fire pits on the night we were there as it was quite cold, but it made for a perfect sanctuary from the rain. Although their IPA called my name, I actually tried their espresso martini here and absolutely loved it. It was a nice simple, dark espresso martini that I highly enjoyed! I will say I don't think you can go wrong, we had a large party and everyone ordered different things, the service was excellent and everyone enjoyed their drinks. We loved the vibe inside here. The staff was helpful and friendly. It's very open inside/outside flows together. There's standing tables to grab drinks at and small tables for 2-4 people. We tried the City Slicker cocktail, it was good, but too sweet for me. We also tried the La Burro which was recommend for the spice, but I don't really like mezcal. The server said she wasn't a big mezcal fan either and liked it. I gave it a shot, but it wasn't for me. It's always fun to try something new though. We had fish tacos.
