I took the opportunity to look at the menu and discuss with my better half about trying it out. So I then approached the host and asked if they took reservations, and when assured they did I made one for Monday at 5p. I noticed the book seemed empty, but I thought that was because Mondays must be light. Upon arrival Monday we found out it was because they are closed on Monday. We were walking around the Lantern District, not sure where to eat. We passed by Luxe, a restaurant we have been meaning to try for a while. I'm glad we did. It was 4pm on a Sunday which happened to be happy hour. Our favorite items were the Sea Bass and the Penne Filet. The flavors were exactly what I was hoping for. Rich, not salty. Vert disappointed. It was extremely hot in the restaurant even though it was a cool evening. For being a place that specializes in martinis, they were nothing special and felt uninspired. The food is was terrible. To charge $30+ for bland food that I could have cooked better at home was a joke. I asked for parmesan and they gave us a jar you would see sitting at a pizza place. On top of that they charge $10 for garlic bread for the table and the portion was tiny and not enough for 6 people to get a piece. The waiter was kind, but did not check up on us often. The place was maybe half full. I will never come back or reccomended. Go spend your money elsewhere. I wish I could get my evening back and spend it somewhere else. read more

This was my first time at Luxe and I was a party of four at 8:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve. our table was ready and waiting for us, we had arrived early thinking we would get a drink at the bar but we were sat right away. I had posted a prior thread about the restaurant on Nextdoor and the owner remembered my name from that post, gave me a hug up on arrival and was very warm and friendly. we had amazing service, very attentive even though it was a busy New Year's Eve night. we got the short rib egg rolls and I got short rib mashed potatoes and broccolini for my dinner and everything was just really fantastic they provided a champagne toast at 9:00 p.m. doing a East Coast celebration. there was a live piano who accepted song requests. I did a very specific song request and she did not know my song but asked for a few moments looked up my song and proceeded to play it and it was fantastic. there's a few seats around the bar so if you want to go for a quick drink I think it would be nice to just sit around the bar area. it was lively dark cool spot in Dana Point and we will definitely be back. I feel like for the amount of food received and the price it was well worth it and just for the warm welcoming environment. I loved that they did not have a prefix dinner for New Year's Eve and you can order straight off the menu. read more

The "hostess" greeted us with such hospitality, I felt like I'd entered a friend's home- come to find out she was one of the owners, that explains it...Great customer service. This place has a ton of potential and I'm being generous with the rating because I am rooting for them and like them. My one gripe is their choice of live piano music (no doubt it's nice to have) can sometimes make it sleepy and this place is screaming for ENERGY! Their food is also Italian so you have to be in the mood for that type of cuisine. I've been once before for dinner and most recently came back for happy hour during the day and really enjoyed myself at the bar and loved interacting with Jeremy the bartender - super sweet kid. I say kid because he's the youngest guy there as this place leans towards the 50+ local crowd. The dark moody aesthetics though are everything and I am missing places like this as I am bored sick of light, bright and white for an evening mood. The food was delicious-had all three selections of generously sized flatbreads, calamari (my personal test of quality food), unbelievable Caprese burrata salad. Good wine selection at fair prices and friends appreciated the excellent cocktails. Planned a small birthday gathering of a dozen guests for my husband's milestone birthday. Manager Cindy was prompt and efficient in preordering and suggestions. Even responded on her day off. My husband and I came across this restaurant while walking around during the Dana Point annual car show. We immediately loved the elegant, relaxing vibe. The waiter was very nice and sat us right away. The staff overall was friendly and attentive. We ordered some appetizers and cocktails. The fried calamari was great and the artichoke with herbs, drawn butter, and a lemon beurre sauce was flavorful and delicious. We also tried a side of the mushroom risotto, which hit the spot, creamy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. They do not have hard seltzer, only High Noon, and I ordered the Watermelon Lemon Drop Martini, which was excellent. This little hideaway, on Del Prado has been a favorite of ours for many years. Recently our kids came to visit, and we all went on a Saturday night. Good thing we had reservations, it was totally full, and they do have the largest bar seating, high-tops, and seating outside. We are used to going during the week, they open at 3pm, but we still managed to get great service and the tastiest food of any other Dana Point restaurant. The variety of their menu really pleased the kids, there was something for everyone and great specials like macadamia nut Sea Bass on pesto risotto, their Pork chop dish was a hit, as well as my husbands favorite - meatloaf. We shared asparagus fries & meatballs to start, and added Caesar salads to our entrees for only $7. The martini's arrived quickly. Piano music was wonderful, which is the only thing we miss out on when we stop by during the week, and sit at the bar talking to Paul - a real career bartender! They have Martini Tuesdays, and always a great happy hour menu, with plenty of their regular menu items at half size and price, so try more one. You will love it - Go! read more

I came to Luxe for the first time this week on a Wednesday evening. I was surprised how few people were there during happy hour. No reservation and we got sat right away. Our server was great, and so was the food. They had a live musician and while it was a little loud, it created a great ambiance. They have a great outdoor patio (perfect for brunch). They have lots of parking near the restaurant, as well as a parking garage right behind it too. I really hope this place sticks around because I think it's really underrated. One thing to note, I wouldn't call the caprese salad a salad - it had no greens. Felt more like an appetizer. read more

Very welcoming and our server was great. I believe it was the owner who was also making rounds to the guests to make sure everything was to satisfaction. I ordered both items to come out for dinner (Eggplant Rollatini (appetizer) and a Chicken Greek Salad). Both came out and I was thoroughly impressed with the taste and portions. The martinis is why I come here ordered the vodka dirty martini $9 for happy hour and ipa beer $6 got a table for 4 at 4 can only use table until 5pm even though happy hour is until 6pm need to move to bar area.
