Originally opened in 1977, Proud Mary's has been serving Dana Point diners for breakfast and lunch for decades. They specialize in casual breakfast and lunch options. I would say the main selling point is the location right on the water and the friendly service. There are other places in Orange County to get a better breakfast in terms of food, but this location is hard to beat. They did a great job with the remodel after the fire in the early 2000s and I can see why it is very popular. There is a large free parking lot attached right behind the restaurant, so parking is very easy. Everything that we ordered came out very fast, and our server was very polite. For this visit, I chose the Chili Cheese Omelette and thought it was pretty good. There was very little cheese, however, and for some reason there were a lot of mushrooms in it, even though that was not listed on the menu. It wasn't a traditional chili cheese, and I would definitely not order it again or suggest it. Others at our table got the Traditional Pancakes and Eggs, and enjoyed their breakfast a lot more. We visited Proud Mary's for a private event after traveling from out of state, and the experience exceeded our expectations. The location alone is worth the visit--the views of Dana Point Harbor are absolutely beautiful and created the perfect setting for the evening. The restaurant was set up beautifully, with soft music playing in the background that made for a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. The meal was a fixed menu, and every course was delicious, especially after a long drive. What really stood out was the staff. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. A special thank you to Mr. Zdrakas, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He was especially kind to my son and even jokingly offered him a job after he pitched in to help. While we were there under difficult circumstances, Proud Mary's made the experience as warm and enjoyable as possible. If you're looking for a beautiful waterfront venue for a private event, I highly recommend Proud Mary's. We look forward to visiting again under happier circumstances. read more

Food was not good. We originally went there for brunch but they still serving at 12, so we were stuck with the lunch menu. The clam chowder was horrible. Tasted like bad flour gravy with little to no potatoes or clams. Don't order this. My Cesar salad came with chicken, anchovies, croutons, and like 4 cherry tomatoes. The anchovies were whole and there were 3. I like that they asked if I wanted them (I did) but I wish they were chopped up instead of whole. The cheese on the salad was hard like it had been sitting out and the chicken seemed like it was some cheap breast defrosted. They could have grilled the chicken, had fresh black pepper to make it a lot better. The French fries on my son's plate were honestly sad looking. Cold and soggy. My husband ordered fish tacos and chili and admitted he's had better meals in his life. We drove pretty far to try this place and honestly wish we went next door for better food. Service was ok, our soups came out before we got our drinks, which I didn't like. The food is super overpriced for the quality. The best part was the view.... Hence the second star. Came here today for breakfast . It's been awhile since we've been here with all the construction and changes taking place here at the harbor. It's terribly sad to see so many places gone due to the huge parking structure and making room for who knows what. Once you get past all that. You can walk alongside the waterfront and see the boats while making your way to Proud Mary's. Happy that they remained here in the harbor. There were 4 of us today and we all ordered different items. All of which were amazing hot and fresh. I failed at getting pictures. I got a few. Our server was great. He tended to us and got everything just perfect. We ordered the breakfast sandwich, side of pancakes, pancake combo with bacon and the biscuits and gravy with eggs sausage and potatoes. This place has a great location right next to the harbor. It's very open with great views of the water and boats. Service was quick and we were seated quickly. I was very excited to come here as the place was busy with people. Not sure if we ordered the wrong thing, but food was below par. Mahi sandwich did not taste fresh, but chewy and iceberg lettuce was wilted. I would have at least expected the onion rings to be homemade, but that seemed frozen too. If I could rate this place a 0 I would. Valerie had horrible service to us today. We waited and waited while we watch her give service to the party of 4 to the left of us and a party of 12+ to the right of us. We didn't have water or anything than came to our table incredibly aggressive, didn't greet us and and said "are you guys ready?". So of course we just ended up walking out. She proceeded to walk out to us and call us a little bitch. We called to speak to the manager and she fabricated something completely different than what actually happened. 5/26/2025 Went for a lovely stroll along the harbor and ended up at Proud Mary's for breakfast. We were greeted by the owner who was doing his dog barking impersonating and he was quite good. Sounded like a small retriever. We were seated at a nice table for two. Valerie was our amazing server and was attentive and kind. The other helpers were all efficient and friendly as well. Had the lunch menu as the breakfast menu ends at noon. I ordered a Bloody Mary and the Steak Burrito. Both were excellent and I ended up taking half the burrito home. Service was quick and the wait wasn't bad as we had a party of 5. The restaurant is located in Dana Point Harbor therefore there were a lot of boats moving all around. The food was okay, but the owner was very selective and only brought certain people in the restaurant a banana cream pie that his wife made the night before and then got mad when my mom shared with me. Got curious on how to get to Catalina Island on my day off and chose to check out Dana Point to catch the Catalina express. I wanted to find out how to catch a ride without online reservation and where to park. I happened to ask the bartender where I could physically get tickets. He was very helpful and clearly gave me directions and found it. Got hungry later and tried their tacos and it didn't disappoint. There was a list of spiked coffee. Walking into Proud Mary's Restaurant in Dana Point felt really relaxing and exciting at the same time when I visited with someone. The place has a lively atmosphere that teenagers would enjoy a lot, and I saw so many teenagers there that day. They were taking pictures by the water, laughing together, and fitting into the environment so naturally that it made the whole restaurant feel even more vibrant. The marina view looked almost like a postcard, and teenagers especially seemed to love taking photos with the boats in the background, which made the place feel even more fun and creative. We met on a foggy Friday morning. Because of construction, one of us did walk a distance. Just keep driving forward and you will be able to park in the lot shared by four restaurants. I had the delicious Doheny omelette. Gorgeous to see and eat. I'm going to cook it like they do. The raw spinach leaves are laid in the mostly set egg (which gently cooks them). It's filled with mushrooms , cheese, and bacon. One of my friends has special requests. (We all have that one person). All of which were honored readily and graciously.
