I had such high hopes for this place!! You seat yourself. That's awesome. It's pretty small. Maybe 5 tables outside, but there is kinda bar seating also on the outside. You can sit inside or outside on those. Two seats each. There is a QR code on the table. That is how you order all of your food. Not a fan. Takes the human interaction out of the equation. If you have any questions about the menu you have to flag down a server. Have to put your name into QR code thing. Other people can join your table. They can pay their own tab which is super nice. No worrying how to split. My buddy ordered the carne asada tacos. I have to say, I have never tasted more unseasoned and chewy meat. It wasn't even carne asada. They just chopped up some beef and called it a day. Super flavorless. He accidentally ordered two orders and it was what it was. Couldn't send it back. I had gotten the Mexican street corn. It wasn't bad. Cheesy. The chips couldn't handle it at all and kept breaking. Had to use a fork. If you order a soda it isn't a fountain drink. You get bottles. Like Mexican cola. Jaritos. One and done because they are $4 each. All together we have very little human interaction. That could be good or bad depending on how much you like people. Pretty cramped outside. We frequent here quite often, usually it is good. Today, Memorial Day evening the wait staff was terrible. Twice we asked for our table to be wiped off we finally went inside and asked a different waitress 20 minutes later. Someone brought our food out and then as they asked if there's anything she could bring us she stepped away to go to the next table before we could even answer. We ran out of our cocktail, we ran out of water, we couldn't get any hot sauce cause she never checked back with us. We had to go hunt everyone down. Did I say how filthy the place was!?! Ordering your drinks and food is interesting here. All ordering is done off a QR code, it seemed difficult at first but this process seemed to flow well, the drinks and food came out quicker vs. traditional spots. You don't have a dedicated server which is nice as a server sees a drink at the bar that's done, they pick it up and deliver it to your table right away. I like that it prevents your food from sitting under a heat lamp or your drinks sitting at the bar. Aside from the drinks (which were all really good) we ordered the street corn appetizer which you can tell was a big hit!! I love the atmosphere at Barrio, it makes me want to go to Mexico and drink a margarita on the beach. Our service was phenomenal and the server was knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. The quesabirria tacos have amazing flavor that bursts in your mouth. Guests seat themselves so nobody to greet you when you first come in. Previously you ordered via QR code but now someone takes your order. Our table was greasy and sticky. We had to flag down a waiter multiple times to ask for our water to be refilled. Starters and entrees all came out at one time. Half our groups tortillas and taco meat came out cold. Music volume could be turned down slightly so you don't have to yell for the person across from you to hear. The alcoholic drinks are great. Would only possibly come back for a drink at the bar. This place has great tacos and margaritas. The only downside is it's quite pricey for what it is. My husband and I will usually each get one of the avenue tacos since it comes with two tacos each and then swap the extra taco. Margaritas are decent, but again, it's just so expensive here for what you get. If it was better priced, we would probably go there more often. I'm glad they got rid of the ordering from the table because our first time going there was not great service due to that fact. Cons: -I REALLY dislike the mobile first approach for the menu, ordering and paying. Sure, the app is easy enough to use but it significantly diminishes the experience and interactions with the bartenders and staff. Especially at the price-point. Just give us some physical menus and friendly faces to interact with -The food is super hit or miss. The guacamole for example tastes like the pre-made stuff from a grocery store and is not fresh. Honestly tastes bad, especially for the price. The corn on the other hand is awesome. The tacos are hit or miss too. Some are great, others are pretty bland. Suggestions: Hopefully management is is taking note of some of the feedback. We really want this place to do well. Further, we'd love to have a local place in the neighborhood we can be regulars. Would love to see an $8 house marg option too. My wife and I have spent $100 plus each visit. A group of us stopped in for a few drinks and sides for a Sunday Fun Day. We have all been waiting for this property to open up and we learned that the Flatbread team opened up Barrio which is great! Upon entering the team was super friendly and helped us understand the Order and Pay by Phone system. Fyi...Barrio does not have servers...they employ a QR code system where you will order and pay for your drinks. I thought it was easy and convenient. The GM, Cassidy, was very helpful and stopped by our table multiple times to make sure all was good. The owner Rob was there too and stopped by for a good chat. Great guy! The restaurant has a cool vibe to it that will allow for a comfortable lunch/dinner feel and then has the ability to support an energetic nightlife with great cocktails to drink. Seating is mostly high table with a few patio seats and chairs at the bar. The menu has a selection of tacos, chips, and salsas to satisfy all customers. We ordered a few different small plates. The guacamole was fresh and tasty with plenty for a group of four. The street corn was a table favorite. Highly recommend! The beef taco was super rich in flavors and was very good. The fish tacos were much larger than we were expecting and were good. The various cocktail drinks and available spirits will meet everyone's needs in my opinion. The young girl who sat us and gave us water was sweet but the bartender/server lady sat behind the bar looking at her phone pretty much the whole time we were there. Our experience was very good and we are comfortable ordering off our phone/device as it provided an efficient way to order food, drinks and settle up the tab/bill. If the service, food, experience, value is good, we will come back as in the case with Barrio. If we want a full service waiter/waitress experience, we can go to Chandlers, The Lively, others. Now here's the deal, I see that several other reviews have people unhappy with this ordering from a confusing app. I'm 54 years old and can barely check my email without confusion, and this app was extremely easy to use! Select a food or beverage item, click how many you want, put it in the cart, and send the order. Anyhow, we actually thought the app idea was brilliant because never once did we have to try to find someone to get another drink or taco, and in addition, you can order one or two things and then order more later if you're still hungry. The servers were running all over that restaurant delivering food and beverages. They very clearly EARNED a tip. They were super friendly and checked in on us and cleared our plates throughout the dinner. Our food was really good. I loved the chicken taquitos, and the al pastor taco. The highlight of the meal was the super tasty margaritas, yummy yummy. Regarding the tacos being too pricey for street tacos, they are a bit bigger than your average street taco, but I agree that they could be a dollar cheaper. But hey, times are tough right now and people have to realize that people go into the restaurant business to make money. The birria tacos are full of flavor and served with a delicious consome. We decided to come back to Barrio to give them another chance (see previous review) for dinner and drinks and were delighted that the Barrio was like we remembered it from our previous experiences (we even came back with out of state visitors the following week). The staff was great (even though it was crazy busy on our second visit on a Friday night), the food was very good (especially the Korean tacos), and the drinks were spot on from what we were used too (we both like the Barrio margarita).
