Had no idea what to expect coming here. We had no prior knowledge of it and we decided to come after work while in town. We were extremely surprised by the quality of food and SIZE of each item. The photos do not do the food here justice. Everything was excellent and flavorful. The service was welcoming and attentive. You will order at the register and get a number to bring to your table. It has a cozy feel with plenty of seating. Parking was a little tight on site, but there's plenty in the area. Family owned and you can taste and see the expert craftsmanship from the team in the back. This place is definitely worth making a stop. to check it out if you're in the area.

If you're looking for a spot that perfectly balances elevated flavors with a relaxed, approachable vibe, Madre - Boutique Taqueria is a must-visit. We dropped in for Taco Tuesday and were thoroughly impressed by both the kitchen's creativity and the charming atmosphere. The Food The star of the night was undoubtedly the OG Crispy Tacos. At a fantastic $5 Tuesday special, these are a masterclass in nostalgia done right. They feature a unique "crispy soft shell" that provides a satisfying crunch without shattering, loaded with seasoned ground beef, fresh lettuce, cheese, pinto beans, and a hot sauce that packs just the right punch. It's the ultimate elevated comfort food. I also branched out to try the Korean Short Rib Taco ($8). This is where Madre's "boutique" identity really shines. The richness of the short rib was beautifully offset by the acidic crunch of kimchee and pickled relish, while the peanut sauce added a creamy, nutty depth that tied the fusion profile together perfectly. Drinks & Atmosphere To wash it all down, I opted for a classic Daiquiri, which was balanced and refreshing--clearly made by someone who understands craft cocktails. My fiancé enjoyed The Bruce, a crisp, local beer that paired effortlessly with the bold spices of the tacos. And before we left, we split a margarita. The atmosphere at Madre is "quaint" in the best way possible. We chose to sit on the patio, which offers a lovely outdoor escape. The setting is so integrated with the neighborhood charm that we even had a local squirrel zip right under our feet across the patio--a moment that added a touch of whimsical, nature-filled character to our meal. Service The service was top-notch; our server was genuinely friendly and attentive without being overbearing, ensuring our drinks stayed full and our Taco Tuesday experience was seamless. Final Verdict Madre - Boutique Taqueria manages to feel like a hidden gem while delivering world-class flavors. Whether you're there for the high-value OG specials or the more adventurous fusion offerings, you're in for a treat. We'll definitely be back for more patio time!

Food is top notch! best birria tocos my husband has ever had and he's a huge goodie so that says a lot! Service is EXCELLENT! The owner is the kindest person and very attentive!

    Bueno!

Tuesday's are OG taco day at Madres. The anticipation the other six days is unbearable... These are the best tacos in Boise. Highly recommend!

Owners are super sweet/talkative, I loved the carnitas tacos. Chips and salsa were good! The bathrooms were clean, Only thing I don't think they had the AC on, it was super hot in the restaurant the group of friends/family I was with were uncomfortable (that's why 4stars).

Overall, my sentiment is MEH! This was our first time visiting and we did so based on the fact that they had been featured on Diners', Drive-Ins, and Dives. The place is located in a pretty nondescript area of town close to BSU. They were open early and that was another reason we chose to visit since we had just landed nearby at BOI and were looking for lunch. They do not offer table service. You order and pay at the counter and then they bring your food to you. We opted to take some menus to the table since we hadn't been before and then we went back to the counter to order. George was a very nice gentleman and treated us well while we were there. He took the time to get to know us and even used our names when he addressed us while we were there. They have a daily special on their menu that my wife wanted to order but we were told that those are not yet up and running and so she opted for the bean and rice burrito. That option is pretty disappointing if you ask us. Literally some beans, (your choice of pinto or black) with some white rice rolled up in a tortilla. Something that you'd expect to find on a kid's menu. I had the Idaho spud & chorizo taco, and my aunt had the fish taco. Both were very good but, in my opinion, not worth the $8 price tag for one taco. My cousin had the chicken tinga burrito and that stole the show! A very hearty amount of chicken tinga with rice, beans, onions and cheese rolled up in a large tortilla. It was actually worth the $14 price. While we were there, a couple of other gentlemen came in for lunch, and I saw that they had ordered the chips and salsa along with the rice and beans. I watched as they mixed the rice and beans and then dipped their tortilla chips in it like a dip. That is a great idea if you're going there for apps and drinks. They do charge $5 for chips and salsa too so be aware of that. Overall, I would say that this place is overpriced and I most likely wouldn't revisit but I like people to make their own decisions so if you're in the Boise area and looking for a taqueria, give them a try. Who knows, you may find your new favorite place. Cheers.

Absolutely delicious tacos. Cannot wait to go back. Had the guacamole, salsa, and chips but did not get a photo quickly enough before they were gone.

I pulled pork taco w/spicy barbecue sauce with slaw & cilantro on a flour tortilla
    Amy M.

This my first time there. I had the pulled pork taco with a slightly spicy barbecue sauce. Pork was juicy and tender. One was enough for me for lunch. I wish the flour shell was a little crispier but I get that would be hard to achieve as soon as you add the juicy meat. The slaw on top was great and it gave the taco more texture. Nice outdoor seating for a nice sunny day.

I really wanted to like Madre and have been thinking of how to summarize it, but I just keep coming back to overpriced, mediocre tacos. Food: 4/5. First off, the margaritas were great! For appetizers we had the street corn and the potato taquitos. Both were ok. The sauce for the corn was probably my favorite item, which was delicious but I'm not sure that is a compliment. We tried 5 different tacos and they were good, but nothing special, especially not for the price. A couple of them were cold, and the potatoes were not cooked all the way in one. I wish the cilantro was more cut up as opposed to just a stringy decoration. Service: 3/5. All of the employees were fantastic! The food came in a timely manner. My biggest complaint is that you have to seat yourself and order at the front counter. We saw a single person sit at a large table which caused some issues and I think for the price of everything having to order at the front just felt off. Atmosphere: 3.5/5. First off, parking is awful. There are only a handful of spots designated for the restaurant and street parking in the area is terrible. The vibe is nice and there is a tv and bar for sports viewing. The outside could be a good place to eat, but it was too sunny for us to sit out there comfortably and umbrellas or other shade would be beneficial. Overall, we had a decent experience but I felt it was just overpriced for what it was.

Best tacos in town!! The tacos are very unique and do not disappoint! We ordered the Korean Short Rib, Pineapple Al Pastor, Baja Fish and Carnitas. Amazing staff and service. Can't wait to come back!

4 instead of 5 stars based on prices. $151 for a party of 4 with 7 tacos, chips and guac, a beer, can of wine, and 2 margaritas is crazy. Not to mention they add 20% service charge without asking. I take care of my servers but this isn't full service. You order at the counter. The prices will keep me away. It's a shame because the tacos are good. Chips that come with the salsa and guac are not fresh and seem mass produced. The saving grace here are the tacos.

Amazing food- great service. The Nashville hot chicken taco was the best. Also the Korean short rib is highly reccomended.

    Are there gluten free options?

All tacos except for the Quesabirria can be prepared fully gluten free on request.

    Are the fish tacos breaded?

I don't know the answer to your question, Kat, but Julie Chavez (owner - wife) is super prompt with answering questions left via FB page or email. And I can say from many delicious dishes enjoyed from Chef John Chavez's kitchen all is delicious.

Tomatillo salsa. Hot button of mine. How is it?

I thought it was very good. Flavorful, but not numbing hot.

It's been a while since he has had their tacos so today for lunch he asked me to grab him some. It's my first time in this joint. Walking in, it's quite loud and fun! It's got music going. Many patrons eating and talking. There are bright colors and banners everywhere. It looks like a fun and vibrant venue to have a good meal at. I ordered at the register. The gal that was helping me gave me basic service. Your average customer service. I grabbed 4 carne asada tacos without onions and cilantro for the husband and the chicken flauta combo meal for myself. I grabbed a table to hang out at while my order was being made. I wanted to grab some salsa to go at the sauce bar. There wasn't any to go cups available so I did ask someone for some. She said she would go grab some for me and never did. My food finally showed up and I had to ask another gal for the to go cups. I finally got my sauces and headed out the door. First glance at the food, I was excited! Everything looked fresh and delicious. The cheese was melty on the tacos. The quac, rice and beans looked good in my to go plate. But looks can be deceiving. Unfortunately, the carne asada was so dry. Dry in texture and just tough. Like the meat has been sitting for a while and they just grabbed the top helping of meat instead of mixing it. We did add a good amount of lime to add some wetness to the taco but it didn't help. Out of 4 tacos, my husband only ate 2. The chicken flautas looked promising. The tortilla was airy and crispy. I wish I can say good things about the chicken. The chicken pieces were too big. You would take a bite and the whole chicken chunk would come out. It was also dry and unflavored. The only thing that slightly helped the flauta was the sour cream and quac. The rice and beans were pretty generic so they were good. I spent 32 bucks on this meal for us to only eat half of. I don't know what happened for my husband to say the tacos were legit a while back to end up ordering this mediocre meal today. So disappointed with every part of my meal. Customer service was ok. So many fantastic Taquerias out there but this joint isn't one of them.

The azada in the enchilada was the same used in the street taco, so it was really good. But then generic enchalada sauce, basic refried beans, and rice that was so dry there were crunchies - but not like the good, flavorful, caramelized paella crunchy. Asked the manager if they made the tomals because it was a way different beef flavor, and she insisted "yes." She was very disengaged, but at least I saw someone in the dining room cleaning the tables. Second meal was a pork tomal and lingua enchilada with beans and rice. Pork was better than the beef. There were a couple bites of the lingua that seemed... a little off, like it was old. Same beans, but at least the rice this time wasn't as dehydrated. The person attending the counter seemed to have an attitude and didn't feel like he wanted to be there. Never saw any of the tables wiped off in my 45 minutes there for lunch.
