Great burger spot for burger lovers. Great customer service! Good food. In the heart of Barrio Logan corner of Beardsley & Newton. Excellent spot for lunch as they food service is pretty quick. Plenty of seating indoors and out, street parking can be a little scarce at times. The Barrio Burger Especial is a must try comes with a tasty bacon jam. Not too sweet just right gives the burger a distinct delightful taste.

Had the Barrio Burger Especial... wow what an amazing burger, 10/10. The bacon jam and barrio sauce were so good. I'm going back to try a double with bacon soon. I also had the La Trompuda, Papas Sucias and onion rings. All these items were good but I definitely prefer the Barrio Burger over the La Trompuda. The service was great, I would recommend this place to anyone! Probably the best burger I've had in my visits to San Diego.

I appreciated the simple and straightforward menu with some unique items that caught my eye. Ordered our food-to-go and got a couple of different items. The Barrio Burger Especial was really good and very flavorful. The same can be said about La Trompuda which is basically an Al Pastor burger. I really liked pineapple and bacon wrapped pepper on top. It's interesting having it in a 'burger' form vs. a more traditional taco/torta. I think it still works great. We also got the Papas Sucias which were delicious. Everything was made very well and I really enjoyed all the flavors of each dish.

I took my wife and daughter here to try a burger and sides a week ago and it was so good we went again yesterday! This is the best burger in San Diego, especially the Angus beef burger. The traditional burger they make here is really good too, cold fresh lettuce, a really good tomato, and pickles with a bun that is a great compliment to fresh ingredients and great preparation. The service was outstanding also. The menu is a simple one, the corn ribs were a very clever preparation and very tasty. The onion rings were the best we have had, a perfect crunchy batter over a nicely sized onion slice. We will be back to try every item on the menu, this place rocks!

Popped over to Barrio Burger before I started my volunteer shift at the Convention Center. (For those of you who wander, it's only a half hour walk.) Ordered the La Trompuda burger and fries which came with complementary amazing and friendly service. Food was prepared quickly and delivered with a smile and The Anti-Fly Force Field [fan to keep flies off] not sure it was needed, but very nice to have that thoughtful touch. Everything is amazing and I'll be back!

Tried Barrio Burger for the first time. Something new was the La Trompuda (Al Pastor with pineapple and chipotle sauce). It was a twist and it worked however, the Pastor could have been marinated a bit more spicy. Papas del Barrio, a mixture of fries, Al Pastor, pineapple and chipotle alioli also a good mix but could have used more Al Pastor in it but a good mix and tasty. The service was great. The female at the front took our order. Delivered the food to our table and checked in us a few times to see if we needed anything. Top notch in my book. The ambiance was good. People trickled in slowly one after the other and everyone was friendly. All in all it was a good experience but a bit much for the price and the amount you get but I'll be back.

Honestly the service was really good. Burger especial is the bomb. Nice little place with seating indoor and outdoor. Definitely recommend to visitors and locals. For sure coming back! Thank you barrio burger again and keep up the good work.

Such a simple menu but it has a little bit of everything so it's perfect. The La Trompuda is one of the best burgers I've had in my life. It has so much flavor and textures, even comes with a bacon wrapped jalapeño on top. I've never had anything like it. The only thing I wish was more flavor from the pineapple. Upon first glance, I thought it was cheese. It had no flavor. The burger would've been fine without it but to enhance the burger, if the pineapple were grilled or had more flavor, it would add such a nice extra kick of flavor to the overall burger! The meat though was so good, I wish I could've taken a Tupperware of it home so I could make tacos out of it. The corn ribs are a bit overpriced and come with 4 pieces. It was cooked perfectly and had a burst of flavor though. If it came with a couple of lime wedges, it would've enhanced the flavor there too. The fries, El Mac, and shakes are good and are fairly priced. The sauces are good but 75 cents each is a bit steep. There are a few tables inside and outside. Our table was a little dirty but Staff noticed right away and came over to wipe it down. Staff were friendly and open to my feedback. We'll be back to try other things!

Delicious burgers with great service! We were wary greeted and kindly explain their key to us. They are messy to eat but so delicious, worth getting dirty for.

Barrio Burger is hands down one of the best burger spots in San Diego. It's tucked away in the vibrant Barrio Logan neighborhood. The atmosphere is casual, inviting with a local vibe. The burgers are next level. The menu is pretty simple. I opted for the Barrio Burger Especial. I was a little hesitant because it's advertised as having a "Barrio" special sauce. The lady working the counter assured me it was good and complimented the burger. She was not lying. This burger was juicy and perfectly seasoned. The Barrio Sauce is made with black garlic and it's AMAZING! The fries were good and crispy but the star of the show is the burger. Whether you're a local or just visiting San Diego, Barrio Burger is a must try.

The Mish Mash space in Barrio Logan has been turned into a burger shop. Barrio Burger has been open for less than two weeks on the SE corner of Newton Ave and Beardsley St. The latter road was directly off the exit from I-5 South which made it a convenient straight shot from the highway. Parking was all curbside in this neighborhood which may feel uncomfortable after sunset as it's not a well lit block. There was some outdoor seating on the front patio with a countertop bar and about five small tables inside. On the menu screen, three burgers, three sides, two salads, and four snacks were the food offerings. Bottled or fountain drinks and three kinds of milkshakes made up the beverage choices. La Trompuda was the first burger listed which I chose. Al pastor pork, mixed cheese, grilled pineapple, red onion, and guacamole were the ingredients. It was topped off with a bacon-wrapped, cheese-filled serrano pepper. I definitely had never tried a pork burger dressed this way before. The cheese was prominent while the pineapple was less so. The pork was cut into small pieces as opposed to a patty. That made some of the meat fall out while I was eating the burger. The serrano pepper was not spicy at all. The bacon and cheese on the pepper made it an unusual garnishment. I also ordered onion rings as a side. It came as six rings that were fried well. The service was pleasant as they were not busy at all during my visit.

The burgers are massive, and the restaurant definitely has a fun, quirky atmosphere with its beach-town vibe and walls covered in memorabilia. If you're looking for a classic San Diego tourist stop, I can see the appeal. But when it comes to the food itself, I found it pretty average. What really shocked me was the price. This may be one of the most expensive burgers I've seen in San Diego. The burger was good enough, but not nearly good enough to justify the cost. The patty was fine, the toppings were generous, and the portions were large, but nothing about it stood out as exceptional. In a city with so many great burger options, I expected something memorable. Instead, it felt like I was paying a premium for the brand and reputation. The atmosphere is probably the best part of the experience. It's loud, energetic, and full of character. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the legend for me. Overall, Hodad's feels like a place you try once because it's famous, not because it serves the best burger in San Diego. If you're already in Ocean Beach, it's worth stopping by. But I wouldn't go out of my way--or pay those prices again--for a burger that I found to be fairly ordinary.

It's always popping up as one of the best burgers in San Diego. The vibe in the place was cool. Bustling and music blasting. I look around for the menu. Not easy to find. I guess it's one of those "if you know you know" but then I saw a small chalkboard that listed the burger and a tiny printout pizza menu way in the back. I order a burger and coke. So pumped to try it. I ask for no onions and the guy at the register immediately cops a huge attitude like I ruined his day. He points at the chalkboard and says "no substitutions". I reply "no biggie! I can scrape em off or something" dude looks pissed and says "they're hard to scrape off" I know reading this I may sound unreasonable. Maybe dude was having a bad day. But the way he was looking and speaking to me made me want to walk away from the counter not bother ordering. If you are great at burgers but not customer service maybe stay off the register and stick to the grill. My friend with me goes "not very friendly for a place called the friendly" so it wasn't just me. The burger comes out. Honestly I'd bet on a good day it's great. But today it wasn't. Overly greasy. Ironically all of the onions slid right off so I'm not sure why he feels it would be too difficult for me to remove myself. The burger could barely stay in the bun it was so greasy. The aioli spread was all on one side of the burger and it was a mess. I'm not sure if maybe this place used to be great and since has declined, or if the staff was just having such an off day that it reflected in the effort of the food. Or if the guy just had some issue and felt like taking it out on us today. But needless to say. There's plenty of amazing smash burger places in San Diego. Excited to try somewhere else.

What I ordered: * The Bonehead Burger (3/5): the burger itself was a decent size, but the BBQ sauce was a little too heavy for my taste, and the hamburger patty didn't have much seasoning. There was just a little too much going on flavor-wise, and nothing really stood out about it for me. * Fries (5/5): the fries were honestly incredible. You can order a half portion, and it's still a huge serving that's definitely shareable. The seasoning on them was great too. They also have an awesome craft beer selection on tap. Overall, I'd come back to try the smash burger or just get a side of fries and enjoy a nice craft beer.
