I've come to this location twice. And each time, it takes 2+ minutes to get service. And once your food or drinks have arrived they don't come check in except just to present the check. Came for their happy hour, and it did not disappoint! We came for the $5 piña colada's on Thursday's (they also have $5 any cocktail) that day too if you aren't a coconut fan. The drinks were so impressive & tasted so delicious. We also spilt the guacamole, chips & plantains, and you could taste how fresh the guacamole was! Our server Jay was nothing short of incredible. I am always looking for diverse food options in Cleveland and Barroco definitely makes the list. I have been here a number of times and it is usually my go-to when people come to visit since it's great for groups. The location closest to me has since closed. The staff is fantastic and so accommodating. We had to change seating several times and they were so accommodating to having us move in a busy restaurant. I have not seen any other arepa place in the area. And there is something for everyone! Their sides are also phenomenal. Specifically, the yucca fries are so good. Of everything, the highlight is the variety of sauces they have at the table. They have five sauces at every table including chimichurri, ranchero, pineapple, garlic aioli, and spicy peanut. Came here on a date and had a great time! Love the decor and tastefully colorful everything. The food tasted great and the portions were huge! My new favorite traditional is mojito Monday's thanks to Barroco. Man do I love this place! Every time I come here I'm blown away by the freshness and authentic food they serve. I always get the arepas. I've tried their sangria which was delicious and now their mojito..which is addicting On Monday's they serve a $5 mojito (normally $10) and a $10 arepa (normally over $15). This is the perfect "treat yo self" meal. I get the reja arepa with marduros. It's a chicken, feta, peppers, and avocado arepa with fried plantains. My only wish is that they served a few more than four slices of the plantain with the meal (they are so good). read more

I have been to Barroco many times and the people and the ambiance never disappoint. They are always friendly and super helpful in explaining the menu and the delicious sauces (the garlic white sauce is divine!) The wait time was a bit longer this time than anticipated but we still got our food in time for our after dinner plans. The portions are very filling and seasoned very well. My favorite item on the menu is the cheesy corn appetizer. It's so large that it can be shared or eaten as a meal - which I have done in the past. I recommend this restaurant if you've never been here. My only ding is the prices have increased significantly in the past 2 years - I get the whole inflation and food cost thing but it isn't a place you could take a family affordably - maybe a special occasion. read more

This is vying for my favorite restaurant in Cleveland. We have come here a few times and it never disappoints. My all time favorite is the 3 pupusas, the arepas are amazing (my husbands favorite is la sucia). I've had a couple arepas and just had the jibaritos which was good but huge- I eat a lot and had to take half home. I got a wild mixed drink, the smoked colada, and it came with a smoked sugarcane in it, as well as pineapple and cherry! It was almost like a dessert but super fun. This is the most authentic Hispanic food restaurant in all of NEO! It was so good. The ambiance is amazing. They had live music playing which I could listen to every day. My friend posted a video of the place on her social media and for fun tagged her location in Columbia and a bunch of people believed her and thought she was in Columbia. The food was so delicious. First time here and such a quaint little place. It's one of three throughout the Cleveland area. A fantastic atmosphere with great music and lots of ambiance. I Ordered the carne asada and it wasn't the best but it was still pretty good. I was there with five other people and everyone of them had amazing meals and were very happy! Next time I'll definitely go with the Arepas as they looked like perfection! All of the drinks are freshly made with fresh fruit and herbs which made them really tasty. If you have craving for Latin/Columbian food then Barraco should be a place you should check out. I went with The One We Started With arepa. I got chorizo for my protein. The arepa was stuffed with green peppers, onions and roasted corn with mozzarella. With the arepa I chose yuca fries as a side. The flavor of the arepa was out of this world. Full of great flavor with perfectly fried yuca fries. The fries came with half a dozen dipping sauces which were all great. Don't forget to wash your meal down with a perfect lime margarita. We had reservations for three at 8:15P, but got a bit delayed partly because we had to wait for a few mins behind an emergency vehicle and partly because of parking. We arrived at 8:27 (so 12 mins late) and were told that because we arrived late our reservation had been given away. When I asked how long it would take to get seated I thought maybe the lady would say 15-20 mins. Instead she told me that there are all these people waiting ahead of you in line so I have no idea. She was polite about it so I didn't press the issue and left. However, it is a bit unusual to not only have your reservations given away but also to be put in the back of the line. Tried the steak patacons, and I am glad we did. The base of smashed and fried crispy plantains was perfect with the slow cooked tender beef on top. Barroco is quite honestly my favorite restaurant in Cleveland (and its up against some heavy competition!). I used to go to the Larchmere location quite a bit when I lived on the east side but am happy to have found a new home in Lakewood! The arepas, meat, and drinks make up what I believe is by far the best social restaurant experience in the area. I was worried about having to wait at 7pm on a Friday night without reservations, but we were able to take a quick tequila shot and get seated outside immediately. Friday night was the night of the first torrential downpour of autumn and as soon as the forecast was announced outside, the waitresses quickly went into an organized chaos to get everyone re-seated underneath a roof and pack up the driveway and outdoor patio. It was quick and impressive - they closed up just before it started to storm. Everyone was dry and happy! I LOVE the fruit beer at Barroco - I am one of the biggest Platform fans on earth but only now realized that it is made with the Platform Passionista. Even better! It's like a fruity, light sangria with a slight hoppy kick. The mojito is also to die for but I typically only get it in a pitcher with a large group of people. My favorites are the montañera arepa and the ropa viejo entree. The montanera is sooo good for someone who doesn't want a full sandwich since it is open-faced and topped with an egg. They do NOT skimp on the meat here - I think they might pile more onto the arepa here than at the Larchmere location. I highly recommend getting the yucca fries on the side. They nearly ruin potato fries for me because the consistency is firm, crispy, and perfect with no trace of grease or oil. I could eat them for days alongside the green and orange sauces (I still have trouble remembering which is which...) They also had a band playing and I normally don't like live music on date nights but the volume was appropriate especially since they readjusted once the outside patio was closed. For the keto folks, they have fried chicharrones, which is a great substitute for chips and can pair really well with their guacamole. I do not drink but my husband said it was actually decent tequila. Fun way to start the night. We ordered the empanadas, guacamole, queso, barocco salad, and la gringa arepa with yuca fries. Literally everything was amazing! I wouldn't change a thing. If anything, next time we won't get the empanadas strictly for the fact that we ordered too much. But everything was delicious. What a fun gem nestled into Lakewood! The building is a bit inconspicuous from the outside but the moment you hit the doorstep you'll find bold and bright colors splashed throughout, bits of interest everywhere, nods to Columbia and Venezuela abound and high energy lasting beats flowing through the space. We stopped in on a trip to Cleveland during happy hour on a Tuesday which I was delighted to learn the fresh margs were $6 till 8pm! Our server was a delight and patient with my husbands pronunciation stumbles hahaha. While I've had a fair amount of Latin food, I appreciated the menu "legend" explaining all of the unique dishes. Started our meal out with empanadas which are one of my favorites although I've only ever tried a Puerto Rican variation of. These were fresh and flavorful while the dough was soft and more substantial than what I've had before. They were served with a fresh salsa and a variety of sauces that they make in house; don't skip the pineapple one. We both opted for Arepas since that appears to be their signature and made lovingly in their traditional method. They were incredible, savory, fresh and such a pleasant new dish for us. Before coming here, I had no idea what an arepa was, let alone what Colombian food was. Thanks to a great Groupon deal, my brother and I discovered this place and decided to try it out. When we got there, our waitress was very friendly and helpful in recommending dishes to us and explaining what everything was. Service throughout our meal was excellent. Arepas are thicker white corn tortillas shaped kind of like a pita pocket that are grilled and stuffed with a variety of ingredients. They make these fresh in house. I ordered one of these with a side of yucca fries, while my brother got a side of tostones (savory fried plantains). As an appetizer, we got cheesy corn, which was corn and grilled chicken in queso, served with arepa fries and tortilla chips. Everything was absolutely delicious! The portions are very generous, so we had plenty to carry out for dinner the next day. To put things into perspective, I usually finish my entrée at restaurants even when it's a generous portion. Update: I went back for a second time and still loved it. Only thing is that the food is pretty heavy (lots of dense carbs), so you may not feel so good if you try to eat too much of it. Barroco is absolutely incredible and I am so thankful for their presence in Lakewood! For starters, this location is amazing. The interior is funky in all of the best ways. I love all of the art displayed on the walls. I especially love that they have a covered patio when it's not yet warm enough to be in an uncovered patio. My friends and I came here for a brunch and it was so delightfully cozy. The wait staff is quick, friendly, and great at what they do. We started of with their coffee - which OMG you need to try, it is delicious - and I go one of the brunch cocktails that was similarly amazing. The brunch menu is great because you are able to customize your order. You pick a meat, a side, and eggs. This comes with arepas. They also had some really interesting looking pancake/crepe type of option that I will absolutely be trying next time. The space is so cute, the staff is fabulous, and the food is ridiculously good. Enjoyed another great meal here, this time with co-workers. It was a simply lunch...no appetizers or extras, just a bunch of arepas. I chose a chicken version with a side of fried plantains. The arepa was overflowing and served in a small wooden "boat" for a dish...good thing as it easily caught all of the sandwiches overflow which I dipped into the myriad of available sauces. The plantains were sweet and slightly sticky from the caramelization process of cooking them. Man, these bad boys are sooooo filling! I'm beyond satisfied with my 3 Birria taco order I usually get. It doesn't even need sour cream it's so flavorful and extremely juicy in general. The sour cream just adds in more flare. When I order from home the place is about 10 minutes away via driving and still arrives fresh, and delectable. 100000/10 and highly recommended.
