Was recommended to Barr's Cars after the FUBAR experience at Tire Choice in Martinez (see review there). Pat Barr is a great guy and was happy to properly remount and rebalance the tire. Cost: $25 flat. Additionally, he put the car on the lift, got the current alignment settings and took the time to chat with me about what options I have to get the camber for my suspension sitting correctly: either a EZ camber adjustment kit or remove the struts and adjust the camber using the plate. Gentle paraphrase: He advised that the latter is a bit too involved than most mechanics will want to do and that the kit would make everyone's life easier. No cost at this time. I'll be going back to him for mounting future tires (both for road usage, and more frequently, the track) and ask for alignment assistance once the kit is in place. Happy to say I'm looking forward to opportunities to give/send more business his way. Schedule with him if you're looking for a shop. I live in East Bay, but will gladly pay a toll to deal with someone who's not playing the nickel and dime game with their customers. Really excited to find a decent mechanic... under the old owner, this place was wonderful. He was knowledgeable and could tune in a car suspension without much effort. I recently went in to get a set of tires installed and while we were able to run with the tires, one of the tires developed a leak. When a different mechanic removed the tire, it revealed that the tire was damaged in what appeared to be lack of tire lube and incorrect installation. would not recommend. read more

Pat at Barr's Cars is awesome! I purchased my car used in 2014 and ever since I got it, the tires would slowly deflate. I got all new tires at one point, yet the tires were still deflating. The tire shop that put my new tires on could not tell me why it was happening. They checked for leaks in the tires, shrugged their shoulders, and sent me on my way. I contacted two other mechanics and they also could not tell me why my tires were deflating. Finally, my family's long-time mechanic referred me to Pat. He immediately knew what the issue was and fixed it on the spot while I waited. It's so nice to not have to fill up my tires every week! I've visited him a few more times for various tire-related issues and he's always very kind, efficient, and knowledgable about what needs to be done. He checks my tires thoroughly every time and tops up the air, and I feel safe hitting the road after his handy work. He's been able to get me in the same day every time I call and didn't charge me for patching up my tire after a nail got stuck in it. Just had new set of tires installed and it was strongly recommended to have full alignment done. Working literally 7 days, I also have very limited time to attend to my car. Barr's Cars made me an appointment exactly when I needed it- a rarity these days. But what made me most impressed was once he determined the alignment on my car was all within factory specs he explained to me why no adjustment was needed and sent me on my way "pro bono". My first impression of Pat was when I spoke to him on the phone. He was friendly, accommodating, patient and knowledgeable about vehicles and alignments. I was even more impressed when I arrived at his shop. It was clean, well organized and had all the most modern computer equipment to handle the most sophisticated of vehicles. I found out from talking with Pat that he has been in the automotive business for over 30 years and recently decided he wanted to work for himself instead of someone else. I am a car guy and keep my car it in meticulous shape. So much so I won't let anyone else wash the car. Yeah, I am that guy! So you can only imagine how I am around new mechanics and others I don't know. I recently installed new springs and wheels and tires and was given the recommendation by my mechanic, who I completely trust, that I should bring my car to Pat at Barr's Cars for alignment. Pat was detailed and methodical. In watching him work it was clear he took a lot of pride in his work which is refreshing. A true professional. The alignment job was perfect and I would have given him 4 stars for that. In my mind you have to be really awesome or go above and beyond to earn 5 stars. I am not from the generation where everyone gets a trophy for just showing up. You have to earn it! What pushed Pat to 5 stars was when he was checking my tire pressure, he found that the nuts that hold the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring system) to the rims were barely finger tight. Literally they were to the point of backing completely out. If that TMPS nut would have fallen out of the rim, it would have resulted in instantaneous loss of tire pressure and could have caused my vehicle to loose control and crash. That was very concerning considering the fact I have put at least 100 miles on the new rims and tires since getting them installed at another location. I regularly hit the back roads of West Marin with my car and occasionally go to Infineon raceway on open track days. Trust me, failure on those roads or the track could have been catastrophic. Bottomline, Pat was polite, knowledgeable and meticulous. He treated my car like it was his own. Oh yeah and his prices were great as well. Thanks Pat! read more
