In early December, for the first time in 13yrs of owning my car it suddenly showed a "low tire pressure" warning. Taking this very seriously, I inspected my tires to find one with a nail in the tread. Panicked and in the midst of a busy day and night, I called Cains Tires to see if they could help me out. The person who answered the phone very calmly told me I could bring my car in and they could patch it within 60-90 min. Incredible! I dropped my car with them and when it was time for me to pick it up, Jason tells me that the nail never punctured the tire as it was lodged parallel in the tread grooves! They water tested it and found no puncture. Whaaaaat? Then, he said they would have to charge me for the work they did - $15. OMG, are you kidding me?!?! What a great place! The folks at Cains Tire are great. I just bought a brand new Lexus NX 450h+ and was very unhappy with the rigid run-flat tires that the car came with. (The tires are so rigidly unforgiving on the road they made it hard for me to drive around for any length of time without getting car sick.) Jason, who I worked with, advised me to replace the run-flats with non-run flat Pirellis, and to replace the 20-inch wheels with 18-inch wheels. He was right!!! My family has been in SR for 30 years. All of us have gotten tires from Cains. It's important to support local businesses. But they earned this rating. I came in with a flat tire Saturday morning, I ended up getting 4 new tires which I knew I needed anyway. My problem was getting upsold on the breaks. I was told I shouldn't be driving and it was dangerous. That I should replace both front and back. My front brakes were recently replaced and my rear breaks have about 20k miles left to go. I left, getting a ride to work, requesting an estimate, and they proceeded to try and scare my 80 year old Mom who was picking up my car into the same bullshit sale for breaks I wasn't anywhere close to needing! Shady and ridiculous, first responders and the elderly should be treated with more respect. Actually everyone should. read more

After buying over 100 tires from the locally owned tire store they totally scammed me, charging $180 to take off the snow tires I bought from them and put the standard tires back. COSTCO charges $55, unless you bought the tires from them, then they are free. Crazy thing was when I asked you mean $108? The guy started stuttering, asking for another guy... then said well we had to dispose of them... which I had specifically said no, put them on the back... so then he said that's too much let me credit you.... Then the other guy showed up and said nope, that's what we charge. The fact that they keep no records, have no clue who their longtime clients are is really all you have to know.... They aren't looking for longterm clients. Well that's my last time trying to support the local guys who scam me... where will you go? read more

One of my Tesla's tires was leaking air. I used my portable air compressor to put air in it and drove to the Tesla showroom in Corte Madera, CA. They said a new tire was probably needed since they don't recommend repairing tires. A new tire would be around $400. But, their service department couldn't see me that same day. They referred me to Cain's Tire and I went there. The Tesla guy also confessed that if I needed a new tire, the Cain's price would be less! The Cain's people saw me immediately, despite the place being very busy. Within 20 minutes they showed me a small piece of plastic that had somehow gotten into the tire. They repaired the tire and sent me on my way, for a total cost of $48. I was never so happy to pay $48!!! The Cain's people were so professional and friendly. Top marks to them. read more

Cains is a Marin institution--IYKYK! I've been going to Cains for over a decade so this review is very overdue. Also my pet peeve is when someone has been going to a place for years and never leaves a review until they have a bad experience and then they leave a one star review, like really?!! Where is the gratitude for these mom and pop places and the years of goodness they have brought to your life? Anyway, I digress... Cains brings ease to my life. The service is stellar--they are honest, trustworthy and have great prices, quality tires, and get you in and out with care and speed and friendliness. I also love that they give solid recommendations, and will take the extra time to review my tire/car history to help me make decisions if I'm in an indecisive mood. I usually give them a quick call the day of to see about availability for my sport tires and have no problem! I appreciate the comfy couches and WiFi and water/coffee station, makes it easy to knock some tasks out or get some work done while I wait. I also love how conveniently located they are to other local family owned businesses! I usually like to take a stroll for a couple blocks to grab some fresh baked French bread or pickup doughnuts for friends or enjoy Nepalese or Thai lunch, or indulge in a hearty breakfast...so many options within a few minutes of walking! This place is obviously a fairly large, trusted shop and for the most part the service was good for what I brought car in for. My issue was that when I went to pick up my car, there was clearly something wrong with the idle and the check engine light came on as soon as I started the car. I read the check engine codes with my own ecu reader and it showed 3 different misfire codes. Naturally I went in to ask them about this before leaving because it is way too coincidental that I bring it in for alignment issues and whatever happened in the shop or while they're test driving caused another problem. They wouldn't even look at it and were very dismissive. Pretty much "not our problem now". So I'm just supposed to drive an unsafe car off their lot to release them of liability. I'm sure mechanics will just shrug and say it's unrelated and they're not at fault but clearly a spark plug got rattled loose or something while they're test driving or working on it and they won't even take a look. Kind of a bummer because everything else about the service was decent. read more

I made a mistake. I ordered tires from an online discount vendor. Whether it was bait and switch, or just incompetence, they sent tires that were not the ones advertised on their site. So, I did what I should have done to begin with and called Cains. They had the exact tires I wanted in stock. They even let me go into their storage room downstairs to look at them to be sure they were severe snow rated (the ones the discount chain sent were not, even though they'd been advertised as such). I worked with Debbie and she made sure the tires were waiting when I came in, they were installed quickly, with a smile from everyone involved, even though they were SLAMMED and there was a little hiccup in the installation. Online shopping has conditioned us to always hunt for the best "deals" when often the best deal is down the street, shopping in person with friendly people who know their business. I'll never order tires online again. Thanks Cains, for reminding me of the importance of in-person retail. I miss that world. read more

I had been driving on worn out tires with a bad alignment for some time. The car was shaking really bad and shredding my tires in the process. Every commute to work was stressful as I could have a catastrophic failure at any minute. So I went to Costco and got a quote. $600 out the door and I was willing to pay it. However, they don't do alignments. No way was I going to buy a brand new set of tires and drive a single inch on them with my alignment as bad as it was. I plan to take care of these tires and that means not shredding them right away. So I remembered that Cain's Tire claims to beat Costco prices. I decided to put that to the test. I went there on my lunch break to get a quote and they did in fact beat Costco with the whole cost including the alignment being close to the same price. They were pretty quick about it as well and the whole experience was pretty painless. read more

Woke up to a flat tire on Saturday morning. Was able to inflate with a portable pump, but suspected a slow leak. Drove over to Cain's at 830a. A mechanic helped me immediately and said that the inspection and repair (if a leak) would take 90 minutes. An hour later I received a call that the car was ready. Sure enough, there was a screw embedded in the tire. Cain's patched me up and I had my car back by 945a, and I only owed $40!!!!! Great job Cain's (again)!!! The store hours are wrong. After new year, I came on first or second January. Maps said it's open, wasn't. Today Saturday, shows open till 3pm. I arrived one thirty, told me we're not serving, come back Monday. How am I sure they won't send back Monday too. Twice I drove here for nothing. Their staff even accused me of lying when I said it was closed before. Don't trust opening-closing hours, not accurate. Get tires from somewhere else. read more
