Well, I needed new front tires on my leased car. My lease is due in a month and I had less than 3 mm on my treads. My dealership was offering a certain price to replace the tires, but I wasn't happy with the original ones already on there -the rear ones had been replaced last summer as one blew out in the middle of nowhere! I had to get a unique sized tire and I called around to a bunch of places. I was trying to find a place I used to go to that was very reliable and trustworthy and in the end, despite everybody's opinions, I came into Tim's and he gave me a quote that was better than anybody else's and was good enough "Tire choice" whether or not I decided to buy out my car or turn it in. Everything is so expensive right now I think it's very helpful when you have a business who is working with you to get you the best deal and quality and whatever it is that you're seeking for in service and product. The first time I popped by there were about five guys were waiting for their cars. The day I got my car done. There was a lady there before. We were all done rather quickly and yeah, I am definitely happy and he's the kind of guy that with all the family photos on the wall supporting local sports, and his Paul Newman-esque smile, tan, and charm, you can't help but trust him like he's your own dad giving you tire advice! Hi folks, Taught auto shop at SR HS and worked as a mechanic for years before going back to school for electrical engineering. After tiring of tire store prices and sometimes poor service from the shops I knew, decided to try Tims Treads on a pals recommendation. Since then, about 4 years now and 10 tires, I have gotten outstanding service and very importantly, the lowest pricing in Marin! Tim gets my tires fast, installs them fast and well balanced. My gorgeous wheels look just as pretty after the work! I've brought him my 4Runner, Honda S2000 and Mercedes SLK 350. He did a great tire repair on our brand new 2023 Subaru Crosstrek when another place tried to convince me, a retired mechanic that I needed a new tire! His team was professional and were hustling through several customers at the time. Within 15min of me walking in they had the tire repaired and ready. Charged very little for the job. It was a Monday afternoon. I was an hour away from home and found myself in San Rafael with a nail in my right, rear tire. The tire pressure sensor's severe orange color made driving home with the nail as passenger seem like a sketchy choice. I called a couple of tire shops. They all said they could patch it by the "end of the day". It was 2 pm. I didn't want to wait until 5:30 pm to drive home. And then I called Tim's Treads. Tim voice was kinda gruff when he answered the phone but he listened to me and said it could be done in 20-30 minutes. I drove straight there. 15 minutes and $40 dollars later I was back on the winding roads of East San Rafael trying the find the on ramp to 101 South. A tire repair place told me the steel shard in my tire could not be fixed, so I needed a new tire. I called Tim and he ordered the tire for the next day. I went in the next morning, Scott took the shard out and said it was superficial and since the tire was not leaking, I didn't need the new tire. I'm very impressed by the honesty portrayed here and will bring my vehicle to Tim's Treads for four new tires when they're need in another six months. 5 stars here for sure. read more

Just returned from Tim's Treads to have my Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors replaced for my 2007 Lexus. It's been more than 10 years so it was not surprising to have a battery fail. It turns out that all my sensors were fine, and all he had to do was reset my TPMS system. Out the door in less than 10 minutes at no charge. This is the most honest man, and tire shop owner, in the Bay Area. For the past 25 years I have only purchased my tires from him. He stands behind what he sells along with his services. I got a tire pressure warning light on my car, so I called this fantastic local-owned small business. Tim himself answered and said I should bring the car in. They were able to serve me immediately, removed a drill bit from my tire, patched it up, and had me on my way in less than half an hour. But here's where it gets really crazy: the whole thing cost me $40. At a time when it feels like it's getting harder and harder to afford anything, it's so rare to feel like you're getting not just great service, but also great value. Fast, friendly service with no frills, no up-charges. I was back on the road in less than 30 mins. Discovered a giant screw in my tire as I was putting air in this morning. Found this place that opened at 8am and luckily someone was already at work when I arrived at 7:55AM. Got me in right away and found a screw and a giant nail, showed me the internal damage. Patched it well enough so I can get home and get a new tire this weekend. They didn't try to cheat me, and I really appreciate that. I paid $40 for the patch with great service and advice. They were honest and recommended getting a new tire and told me the patch won't last long, just enough to get home and maybe an extra week or 2 if I need. Been going to Tim's Treads for about 25 years. Over those years, I've gotten good tires at a fair price. However, Tim is there for you if you have a leak or damaged tire. One time he was able to replace my tire because it was still under warranty. Another time when I was in school and on a tight budget, we had an honest conversation about how long I could go before my tires needed to be replaced. Stopped in last June after the Toyota dealer told me I needed new tires on my 2005 Prius (love the dealer most of the time, but the tire pricing seemed a bit...much). Heard about Tim's Treads and stopped in for a second opinion. Tim looked at the tires and said we probably had another 4-5 months of commuter life on them. I said I'd be back when it was time to replace them, and that's what I did (albeit a bit later than recommended!). I brought the car in yesterday and Tim's team had me out the door in about 40 minutes (and there was a tire repair job ahead of me) with four new treads and a new go-to tire place. Ok wow..glad I found and went to Tim's treads..I came out of a business to see my right rear tire flat..oh snap.that's never fun..lol..so I end up putting on the donut spare and I called over to my normal place which is 5 star rated due to founding otnerbeing awesome however he wasn't there, his son was and let's say the apple fell far from the tree in being genuinely friendly and warm etc..so I go there as it's close and what I know. They pull out the flat tire from the trunk and say immediately you need to replace the tire it has some scuffing on it's side..I said oh ok but their replacement spare was just under a $100..so I step away and call around..I find out and get educated that in this scenario where I must have driven a short distance on flat tire unbeknownst to me..anyways I find out that the only way to know I need a different tire is if the tire is taken off the rim and tie is inspected therein being compromised ..ok that makes sense..I called Tim around 430pm so we make appt for 8-9am next morning and he has a used replacement at great price if needed but I may not. Btw Tim was genuinely a friendly honest customer service driven person, it came through on the phone. I go in the next morning and his two employees and Tim are super nice, I wait in lobby for my car to be looked at, his employee came in saying hey your tire is fine, we can patch it up, the tire was not compromised, I say really? he says if it was my car Id use the tire has great tread probably til next winter/spring..it's a Yokohama yada yada yada..I say awesome but not as cool or high like Jeff Spicolli..:-) yes, I just dated myself lol. So furthermore they check other 3 tires look great, educate me that the screw probably in for a while and finally leak gave way..I say that makes sense about 3 months ago my tire indicator light started to go off, Id top off and be good for few weeks..they inform me it goes off when tire is under 30lbs..and send me on my way..just an all around great experience. Tim and staff were genuinely nice, honest at a fair price. He's a throw back to when this was the norm and deserves a huge shout out. We got a flat tire on the driver front tire. Since the cut was on the side of the tire and unrepairable. We had put on the spare tire while this guy go check if the same tire in stock and found it was only 2 in the nation.
