After getting my car fixed by an independent mechanic I came here for a wheel alignment. Unfortunately one of the parts came off during the alignment, which could have caused an accident had I driven it home in the freeway! Harold went above and beyond to help me fix this issue. They tightened the part and I took it back to the mechanic to get everything retightened again (as that mechanic likely did not tightened it well initially). Even though it was close to closing time Harold was able to fit me in for another alignment to ensure I was safe to drive home. I cannot emphasize enough how much Harold was knowledge and helpful. I have been using this location since they opened and have really never had a bad experience, if there was an issue, Marvin would look into it and rectify the issue if it was on their end. the pricing is on par with other auto repair chains. Marvin, has never tried to upsell us on any services that were not needed and would explain why a service was needed if we were not expecting that service needing to be done. He even recommended that we replace the factory lights with better ones, said we could purchase them elsewhere for less and they would change them at our next tire rotation. I am deeply and highly disappointed after my recent visit. I had been a regular Big O Tires customer since I bought my first car many years ago. Then, Big O Tires technicians generously taught me about tires and tire care. Big O Tires was a brand I respected and trusted, until recently. I had a disappointing experience six weeks ago after visiting this shop. Beware, this shop has a cancellation charge without prior notice for tire orders. After I brought a flat tire that could not be repaired, service advisor Marvin ordered two (AWD tires are replaced in sets of twos or fours) 99H Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Black Wall tires and kept my flat tire and wheel. Back home, I researched Marvin's tires and discovered his tires, rated Speed H, UTQG Treadwear 600, Traction A, and Temperature A, are rated LOWER than my then tires, 99V Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus II, Speed V, UTQG Treadwear 740, Traction A, and Temperature A. A V speed rating is superior to an H speed rating, and a 740 treadwear rating is superior to a 600 treadwear rating. I phoned Marvin and asked about the discrepancy. Marvin explained that Pirelli "no longer makes your Plus II tires" and ordered the regular Scorpion Verde tires. I told Marvin that he had downgraded two of my superior tires. Marvin, in his shop, did not tell me about the Scorpion Verde All Season Plus 3 tires, the direct replacement for my Plus II tires. I asked why? Marvin said the Plus 3 is different and that I would need four new tires. Marvin stated that he had found the best tires for my needs, the tires he had ordered. However, the best tires Marvin had found are not the same quality as my then tires. I asked for better tires. Marvin replied that "there will be a $100 cancellation charge". Marvin did not inform me that there is a $100 cancellation charge at the shop. A cancellation charge is not printed on my copy of the shop's quote. I kept the order over the weekend as I researched his 99H Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Black Wall tires, which clearly are not as good or better than my then Plus II tires. On Monday, January 26, I cancelled the order and told Marvin, "I will order four Plus 3 tires at TireRack.com and [since you are a TireRack.com contracted installer] you will install the Plus 3 tires". Where were the Tire Rack Plus 3 tires? On January 27, 2026, at 9:01 am, UPS delivered the four Tire Rack Plus 3 tires in two bundles of two, tracking numbers 1Z5EA4490311549055 and 1Z5EA4490311549073. However, when I called and inquired at 9:32 am, an employee replied, "tires haven't come in, there is nothing in front of me". I inquired with UPS. At 10:31 am, the local UPS station left a voicemail that stated "it (sic) was left by the roll up doors". When I inquired at 10:44 am, Marvin replied that the "tires are not here". Finally, at 1:24 pm, Marvin called and stated that my tires arrived, contrary to UPS's 9:01 am delivery time. I brought this cancellation charge issue to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) as documentation of the company's business practices and for resolution. The company stood by its cancellation charge in poorly written and poorly reasoned responses to the BBB (see attachments). The company has never documented or proved that it has a written or printed cancellation policy to the BBB or to me. I have disputed the cancellation charge with my credit card company. I will definitely avoid this company; it is not the same company that I grew up with or respected. read more

Its the holidays and stress is in the air. I have been a very long time customer at Big o tires. I drive for a gig company and as a driver. Needless to say, my car went down for the count bmw as it did its job but now I needed to rent a vehicle at insane prices and I got a small screw wedged in the tire. I stood at the front door at 8am sharp to ensure I got my car handled so i can hit the road. The store manager upon contact was annoying as he told his employees to push past me and clock in. At the point of sale I was explaining my situation and I stated I could sure use a friend today. I mentioned i have an easy one for him and I discussed the small tire repair. He then quipped that regardless of what I think, it's still going to be over 40 mns. I said no problem. At that moment I realized, maybe the screw didnt go in far enough and it could possibly be something that can be removed without needing a repair. The store manager with a thick southern draw in a condescending way stated/ "well hell you didn't even check it first"?? I informed him im not very handle and dont have tools to begin with. He said well you could have possibly saved everyone a whole lot of time had you checked first. I asked for a tool so i could try and figure it out, he was very grumpy and walked to my car and yanked out the screw to say hear the air? I said wow ok. We proceeded to walk back in and he said that will be $50.00! I typically in the past did not have to pay for this minor service. As a matter of fact, this very same store manager many months ago when he just started his new job, was kind and stated as a long time customer he would not be charging me for the tire repair. His southern accent and kindness made me feel so warm and happy and appreciated. Fast forward to now months later he was very rude. I noticed that in my acct i had only $20.00 and I pleaded if he could do the work at $20.00 and he laughed and said no, turned his back and ignored me completely as I explained i live only a few blocks away and I promised to pay the balance. Im 61 not a kid, I definitely look credible. His rude attitude was so poor, i literally begged and asked if i could make an appointment and I would be back in short order. I let him know about his kindness many months ago and I know he has the authority to repeat that action or bare minimum let me pay the balance in a short period of time on this day. He ignored me. I ended up going to oakland where i rented the car initially,!this wonderful lady at the rental shop laughed at the $50.00 price and said, Go across the street they will do it for $20.00 tell em Helen sent you. In twenty minutes everything was handled. The shop was not pretty like big o tires, but the kindness was amazing Ironically, they did not accept apple pay. He trusted me and I promised to come back with cash for which I did. It was an act of human kindness that was what should have taken place at Big o. The issue more importantly is that the store manager had behaved kindly before, so you cant say he didnt know. The southern drawl which I find wonderful as it reminds you of good people who care, unfortunately on this day this manager not only failed in every way possible, he didn't expect anyone would report the incident. Well as it turns out, I have an extremely decorated background in retail. My team and I were featured many years ago in TIME magazine and the cover of the Washington post in my early years at Best Buy for being number one in the co for customer service foe three years straight out of 1000 stores in Santa Rosa, Ca. Recently I was a guest speaker on the President and Ceo of Best Buy highlighting my illustrious career. I am semi retired with Senior Vice President experience and CEO level professional. The only reason I state any of this is to give Creedence to my dissertation here about a store manager that requires some retraining in order to continue in role I am certain many people have experienced his bullying like behavior, but nobody most likely has the time nor the ability to articulate the disaster big o has running the san rafael Francisco blvd in such a way that makes experiences that are poor laid out so future customers or employees can be taken care of going forward. The worst tire shop in the area by far. I've lived in the area for 35+ years with and have never had a worse experience at a tire shop. They don't even deserve 1-star, but I cannot give 0-stars. I've never written any type of review but in this case, I feel people of the area need to be aware of this business. I brought my F-150 to them for a simple tire change and they returned the truck with scratched rims, expecting me to drive off without noticing... It's hard to believe that any of the techs didn't see what they had done, and the manager doesn't keep track of the work his employees are doing. They attempted to try and fix the problem by having me bring the truck back in on a Saturday only to have the polisher say that they couldn't fix the rims (I had even called the district manager the day before on Friday explaining the rims were machined and couldn't be polished). The next step was for them to hold the truck for 4 days in order to send the wheels out to a be re-machined and finished. Meanwhile I was out of a work truck for that whole time and had to rent one, which they did not attempt to reimburse. At the end of the day, the wheels came back with only half of the blemishes fixed with the machined grooves looking only abstractly similar to before. They have horrible orange-peel clear coat which is already chipped in some locations, and the center areas are still marred from their balancing machine. If you value your car, and want good customer service, there are plenty of better shops in the area that will take care of your property and respect your time/money a lot more. I also paid for an alignment which I have no faith was done properly seeing as they cannot even mount tires correctly at a professional tire mounting business. read more

Second visit: I'm looking at needing new tires on my new used car in a few months. I saw on Youtube that some shops recommend alignment with new tires, but that alignment is not always necessary. Then I got a card from Big O for a free alignment check. So I'm thinking, "Hmm, I can pre-determine the need for an alignment for free and possibly forestall an unnecessary charge when I get tires". So today, I went in and again encountered the guy from last time, Marvin Thompson. He informed me that, if the car got tested and was "found to need an alignment", it would be done automatically for $169, and I would have no say in the matter. I insisted on having approval authority. No dice. So I said I'd pass. Then Marvin took me out to my car to check the tread depth, claiming that, if the tread was wearing unevenly across the face of the tire, that showed a misalignment. I could see the logic behind that theory. So, using a tread depth gauge, he measured the outer, middle, and inner tread on each tire. He claimed a 1/32" difference between the front left and the front right tires across the treads. Then he claimed a 1/32" difference on parts of the left rear tire versus the right rear. He said that those differences indicated uneven wear and that I did indeed require an alignment. He gave me the sheet and left me in the parking lot. My first thought was a question as to whether a 1/32" difference on tires that are half worn are a significant difference. My second thought was, are they actually worn unevenly? I'm a detail guy and I just HAPPEN to carry my own tread depth gauge, so I carefully measured all three spots on all four tires myself. And whaddaya know--both front tires are 6/32" across all sections of the fronts and both rears are 4/32" across all sections. I showed the results to the manager and declared that Marvin Thompson is a scam artist. The manager said he would have a talk with Marvin. I'm letting Big O HQ know next. read more

Every time I have gone in they have been friendly and had a good attitude. I have both purchased tires and have come in to have warranty services (flat repair, rotation, etc.) and they have been helpful with all of the above. Took my car in for a free brake inspection because they've been squeaking for years and things have only gotten worse (despite low mileage), so I wanted to make sure there were no issues. They were running behind, so the service advisor who works the front desk (and apparently has a lot of experience with cars) jumped in to help. In just a few minutes he was able to assess the safety of my brakes and do what my dealership and previous service places had not been able to do - which was to explain what was likely going on and clean my rotors - reducing the squeaking by 80-90%. They charged me for four tires despite saying buy 3 get one free. They said my car had specific tires. All cares have specific tires. Whatever. I left and my car immediately over heated. They mentioned screwing my coolant cap on. They are not mechanic and shouldn't be touching my engine. I've never had this issue before. I then had to have someone else calibrate my tires. For two days my computer was freaking out stating I had a flat tire because they failed to do this. I asked for the manager to call me. 4 days later I had to call back. He was super rude. These are guys are so fast and efficient. Time is money right? Right! When my husband got a screw in his truck tire, they fixed it ASAP. When he ran into a curb in the Volvo eagerly trying to pass another vehicle, the front passenger side tire busted, they replaced it ASAP. I think he learned his lesson the hard way, as those were brand new tires on the Volvo. Mike and his stellar crew always come through. It's pricey though, might as well make the best of it. Get an express car wash at BlueWave across the street, or get a Smog check next door at the gas station. Sometimes, you have to kill two birds with one stone. I have been coming to this store for years. In the past I chose this place because of the amazing customer service I received. NOT ANYMORE!!!! The management changed and so did the customer service. I booked a tire rotation and transmission fluid change out which is usually about a 2 hour job. I arrived at approximately 9:37AM for a 10AM appt. A mechanic greeted me and assisted me while I got my dog out of the car and went into the office to check in. I checked in and sat down to wait for my service. While I was there, I listened to the manager, Marvin tell an associate about an "Idiot of a customer", and how they wanted to charge him extra for being such an idiot...IN FRONT OF OTHER CUSTOMERS (myself and several others). I listened to him rant and rave about how busy he was, how stupid customers were, how awful the state of their cars were, how he should charge just for the pleasure of his service...! At one point, I asked about my brakes being a bit squeaky after just getting them done, he guffawed and told me I had more than likely been told they had been done but was just sent away with the old brakes. I informed him I had them done at a very reputable company and that if they had been bad I would have noticed since I had hauled a 12 x 6 full trailer over the mountain passes on them. He laughed at my statement, gave the attendant next to him a knowing look and again questioned me about whether I REALLY had them done and that I was probably lied to... THEN..... 3+ hours later...at 12:38 PM, I asked about how much longer it might be? The attendant (as he was walking out of the room) looked at me and said, "It's not even off the ground yet" I asked why and his answer was, "Lady I'm on my lunch break and I don't have to answer that" then walked out. At this point my temper was starting to flare, especially after sitting there for 3 hours listening to the manager constantly being rude and disrespectful to nearly everyone he either talked to in person or on the phone... OHHHHH EXCEPT for the PRETTY BLONDE who came in... Then he got real sweet real fast. When I told him I needed my car back and to please take it out of the bay his response was, I'll get to you AFTER I help this customer (The pretty blonde). A mechanic came in and asked about my wanting to cancel the service. Marvin looked at him and said, Get her car the hell out of here". When he looked back at me, he said, "I don't need your shit lady, you can take you business elsewhere. I am gobsmacked that a corporation that PRIDED itself on customer service would allow this level of disrespect and rudeness from a MANAGER no less to ANY customer, let alone as a standard culture in the entire workplace. As I was leaving, the mechanic who brought my car out of the bay apologized to me as he handed me my keys and told me to have a nice day. The same person who greeted me in the beginning of this escapade. HE WAS THE NICE ONE!!!! I will NEVER return and I suggest corporate have a word or WATCH on camera so you can ACTUALLY see how BAD this manager is. MARVIN needs to be replaced!!!!!
