Filth aside, the atmosphere is hilariously bad. Think suburban, strip mall dentist office from the late 90's, with no nod to the brand's history, or even the food it serves. Just some crappy senior portraits on the wall, bad furniture, and again... grime everywhere. We'll be back for sure, but not to this odd, forgotten location. Truly a strange and unpleasant retail experience.

Myself and the Mrs have been checking out the downtown coffee scene, and so far, Sweet Nate's is our favorite. Located in the Oliver House, the look and feel of this place is outstanding. I've always had a thing for mid-century aesthetics, and Nate's has some. Their music comes primarily from a collection of vinyl records. Thumb through the 450 to 500, or so, albums, find one, take it to the barista, and they'll play it for you. Cool. By no means am I a coffee connoisseur, but I really liked their product. I ordered the "marriage latte", and my wife got a blueberry Italian soda. Both were excellent. Unlike some of the other coffee places that are located more centrally places in downtown Toledo, you'll have to walk a little ways to get to Sweet Nate's. It's worth the walk. 5 stars!

I have become increasingly tired of Starbucks, but less so of other chain coffeehouses. That said, I always seek out the independent coffeehouses. Mostly, I was sold on the name (Rustbelt) of this coffeehouse in Downtown Toledo, just a few blocks from the small cluster of downtown mid-rises. Inside, it has the open floor plan with exposed ceilings up above, which works very well here and fits the industrial Rust Belt mood. The seating options were to my liking: big butcher block type tables meant to be shared, smaller tables, and upholstered seating with coffee tables. I wish I could have stayed at Rustbelt longer. It was a warm and humid summer day and I had an iced tea and a pastry. The items were tasty. The pricing was fair and the service was unremarkable, but did lean toward being good natured. Parking is available right in front along the street, should you want to keep an eye on your car. That said, I couldn't get a read on the location ... it seemed that there were other eateries and bars nearby, so maybe that meant it was okay. Also, I couldn't figure out where the customer base came from. Usually, bohemian coffeehouses have bohemian enclaves nearby where the bohemian people live. I didn't see any, or maybe I didn't look long enough. I couldn't imagine them being suburbanites. Lastly, I believe I've always seen Rust Belt spelled as two words. If they want to stylize this and go with one word, that's their prerogative. So, what you have here at Rustbelt Coffee are good tea/coffee with pastries to choose from, fair prices, decent service, and a spacious open interior plan where the climate control system was working very well. The food menus were not obvious and the staff did not help much. Their drink menu board is fun but hard to read. Sent a group in after me and they couldn't find where there was a food menu and had a hard time with the staff showing them (they didn't even after being asked) so they only got coffee and got food elsewhere. Items did take awhile. I think if they were more helpful to out of towners (tons of hotels around) and made it more obvious of their different offers they could get a lot more $$$ per head. Decent vibes inside. I do feel like they could have done more for the aviation theme.
