3.0 overall but 5 for service. The Bedford Diner in Temperance (not to be confused with the Bedford Coney Island in Lambertville) is a diner I hadn't been to in a very long while. Decided to check it out in the hope of having a meal and getting some work done around 3pm. As I was walking in, I noted the posted hours and they were closing at 4pm. Oh well. As I entered the restaurant, the server was sweeping the floor. She showed me to a table. I was the only customer. I tried to ignore a slight musty smell-as if tables had been wiped down with a musty rag, to give you an idea. The server, Crystal, couldn't have been nicer. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and she brought the iced tea in one glass and lemonade in another so I could mix it up to suit my taste. Nice! I ordered a Turkey Reuben with dressing on the side. It came with an order of fries, and Crystal promptly brought ketchup to the table without being asked. I had pulled out a file to review but my food came out in no time. Everything was exactly as ordered. The sandwich was decent and the thousand island dressing tasted homemade. The fries were good. Everything was solid but the food just wasn't amazing. However, it was a good value at a total of $12-something. The cash price was a bit lower than if paying by credit card. While I had hoped to get some work done, I felt distracted because the restaurant was clearly getting ready to close. I was in and out in 30 minutes. Just packed up my laptop and left. Would I return? Maybe. It just wasn't the leisurely meal I had anticipated given my arrival so close to closing and there was nothing that would make me want to rush back. When I went inside the Bedford Diner to pick up my food, there was a sign that said to wear a mask and it was enforced. The employees were all wearing masks and I felt safe inside. I walked up next to a dessert case with good looking pieces of carrot cake and cinnamon buns. Food: The Bedford Diner menu has plenty of breakfast and lunch options. It's a stereotypical diner, and while you can find healthy choices, most of the options are the typical eggs, pancakes, and sandwiches. I decided to order the pancakes. Right off the bat, the pancakes smelled delicious. They smelled like warm buttermilk pancakes with hints of sweet flavor. On the menu, it says pancakes are the fluffy Texas pancake recipe". When I opened the to-go box, they barely fit in the container. It made them slightly more challenging to eat but no challenge I couldn't handle. When I dug in, they tasted just as good. I appreciated the sweetness, but it wasn't overly sweet. Service: The hostess as the Bedford Diner was friendly and made me feel safe. She was wearing a mask, and the employees were all wearing masks. The order only took about 10 minutes after placing it. In all, the service at the Bedford Diner was great. I used to like this place but my last 3 experiences here have been poor to say the least. Today the restaurant was about 60% full and it took about 35 minutes to get the breakfast we ordered. I ordered eggs Benedict which came out over hard so upon sending it back they came back out with just 2 poached eggs, that's it. And the bacon tasted like nothing. Just a bad experience overall. Thankfully they comped my meal but we won't be returning anytime soon. Also the waitress was sick and and there was a child sleeping in a booth. Restaurant was not busy yet I was asked to leave after I ordered because a waitress was highly allergic to dogs I had my service dog with me I was embarrassed but I left without eating so I cannot day anything about the food. I heard it was under new ownership but I won't be back I never had a problem with any restaurant before and yes he sits in the booth with me and sleeps he is a hairless Chinese crested and knew my sugar had dropped very low so was a bit agitated and wanted to sit on my lap. Was very disappointed in my carryout order for lunch today. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and soup. My grilled cheese was just toasted bread and the cheese wasn't even melted on the inside. Had dinner with my grandson and couldn't believe his meal was as expensive as mine! According to the me menu his meal included the entree, one side, and a drink for $5.99. His meal cost me $5.99 for the entree, $1.99 for the side, and I was charged for a regular sized drink so his $5.99 meal cost me $7.98 plus his drink. Our second visit here 2/1/19. Was there at about 6:20am for breakfast. My wife had the veggie omelette and I had a mushroom burger with fries and a bowl of chili. All of the food was good and as our first time great service. The burgers are cooked as you like them. The chili had huge cut vegetables in it but still tasted good. I'm very happy to write this review, as I have been waiting for the opportune time to dine here due to their earlier hours of operation. My experience was nothing short of appalling...and let me tell you why. We entered the diner and waited to be seated, only 1 side of the diner was open so we got seated in the very back (where we apparently went unnoticed for coffee refills as well as water seemed to be a hot commodity.) Our waitress was SUPERB at her job and if she hadn't informed me that today was her 2nd day...I wouldn't have known otherwise. She was kind, courteous, fast and knowledgeable. Though I was pleased with the service of our waitress, what I came in here for...was the food. I ordered the "Continental Crepes" with a side of Sausage Links. Out of the 3 types of crepes they have, The Continental said that it came with Strawberries, Bananas, Whip Cream and a "Special Creme" specifically on the menu... What I got was 2 crepes stuffed with DRY Strawberries and Bananas(the fruit was going bad) and a TINY bit of Whip Cream on each end of the Crepes, as to look like it was stuffed with something other than rotten fruit. CHEAP! CHEAP! CHEAP! They are the most expensive Crepes on the menu, I know what I was trying to order.............which significantly fell short. My lunch-companion ordered a Monte Cristo and Fries. That's supposed to be French Toast with Turkey&Ham Grilled Swiss. It was plain bread drenched in butter (extremely soggy) The meat was dry and looked chipped... Out of our entire meals combined.......we ended up only eating Sausage/Coffee and some Fries and paid $10 dollars for it. I'm so far from impressed by this place that I will never drive out of my way to dine here again. When I told our Waitress that we were unhappy with the food, 3 people came over and bombarded our table to tell us "That's how the Crepes come" aside from what the menu say's. I thought that it was unprofessional and rude. It was our first time ever dining here, so in my opinion as a Chef, the entirety of our meals should have been comped. I hadn't eaten at this diner since it was called "Coney Island" some years ago. I remember I enjoyed it then, and still enjoy it now. Today, I ordered the Super Cheeseburger with fries. The fries were a little crunchier than I prefer and definitely needed salt, but the burger was delicious. The service was good, the waitress was friendly, and my food came out in a fairly short amount amount of time. Nothing spectacular, it's a relatively small place with pretty generic and typical restaurant scenery, but it's a clean and comfortable spot with good food for affordable prices, and I think anyone who enjoys eating out would have a nice time here. read more

We've tried several items from this diner and they were amazing. The omelet options, especially the Greek omelet is a favorite. We also ordered takeout (gyros and the Greek burger). We visited here a few weeks ago, and it's nothing to get excited about. Having said that, my review is more about the owners' responses to customers reviews. He blatantly bashes them for having the audacity to post a review. Instead of the usual replies from reputable businesses saying sorry we didn't please you, sorry we'd like to address the concerns you mentioned, sorry we definitely will try to change things, he does none of that. He trounces every one of their concerns, and then moans and berates them. Not a good thing to do when potential customers are reading the responses. He even brings up religion in one of them, more or less stating that she left a review because they were muslims, as if that should matter in the slightest! As is, I shan't be frequenting this place, especially given that Red star diner is across the street, and knows how to treat customers. read more

To start, I came on my lunch hour... I walked in the door I stood behind a lady for 5 minutes while 6 waitresses muddled about not even greeting us at the door. I finally got seated, ordered my drink from one waitress and then ordered my food from another. I ordered the smothered steak, asked for the gravy on the side. I ordered it medium well. What I received was a strip steak cooked well and a side salad that was good enough, a bowl of gravy that wasn't good, coleslaw that was sweetened in some way and warmed up canned green beans. This is a very very good place. They don't have hot dogs (curious for a Coney Island, but but not at all when you go there), but the food is fresh, expertly made and delicious.
