A classic Toledo local business that has delicious food, clean environment & a kind staff. I enjoy their hot pastrami bagels on sesame, the perfect amount of all ingredients. Somehow it stays in place perfectly & the sandwich doesn't fall apart. There's a lot of seating, but most people seem to be getting their orders as take out. A steady stream of people. The food is good. There is a wide variety and a lot of veggie/vegan options. The people are friendly and the location is convenient.

I love the food, but this place (Secor) needs a SEVERE CLEANING. It is disgusting in here. Trash everywhere at the drink station and you can literally see they have only mopped the aisles and not under the tables in quite a long time. I am writing to hopefully express to management that they need some efficiency in running the store. Next time I will just go to Jimmy John's because it would only take me two minutes(freaky fast) versus 20 minutes to order here at BB. The ordering line has no clear start - just multiple people taking multiple orders shouting over each. Also there are too many questions. Think about how to make a process simple and efficient to make customers satisfied - there should be one clear order, for example a regular order or a large size instead of asking for every ingredient if I want half or regular. And then the icing on the cake is when you go to pay and they make you repeat every thing that you got, including how many slices of bacon (insane!!!). there should be a more efficient process like printing the order or writing down the order instead of making the customer repeat every single item they got. This is my first time trying Barry's Bagels. Obviously I am not aware of the chaotic process. As soon as I looked at the menu, I was yelled at by a worker who said he was ready to take my order. Feeling rushed, I gave him my order and proceeded to roll his eyes asking what I wanted on it. Again, I've never been here before. I did ask for jalapeños and I didn't get any on my sandwich. I LOVE this Barry's location! They have the BEST staff, this location is always impeccably clean, and the service is always fast and friendly. Occasionally they are out of some of the more popular bagels, but I guess that speaks to just how good they are. We've had several deli trays while sitting Shiva and celebrating family get togethers. If you don't want to fuss with making light fluffy delicious matzoh balls, this is a close second to homemade. The worst thing about Barry's is choosing between chicken salad and tuna salad. If you've never eaten a s'mores cookie you NEED to get there ASAP. They have delivery and online ordering which makes it super convenient. They offer a decent amount of kosher items and the lox with lite veggie cream cheese on an everything bagel can't be beat ANYWHERE. read more

We stopped in on our way home mid road trip. I have been craving some bagel sandwiches. Walking in were large board with all the different types of bagels cream cheeses and sandwich options. I got the roast beef with Munster, banana peppers onion and pickles on an everything bagel. K got the turkey with bacon, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle on an everything bagel. There was plenty of tables to choose from so we found a spot to dig in. Let me tell you, it was everything I hoped and dreamed. Have been a customer for 50 years, since they opened. Bagels are great and consistenly so. Deli selections are mediocre at best. Service in all of their facilities is chaotic. There is and never has been a "system" for customer service at the Bagel Place. Not in the traditional format stores or the new "express" concepts. Also all of their facilities are dirty. The flagship store has seen little change since it opened 50 years ago and not sure parts of it have been cleaned since day one. read more

Best Bagels in Toledo hands down! Fresh as fresh can get from the bagels themselves or the deli meat they put on them. The backed potatoes are one of my favorites as well. I've have ordered party trays from them numerous times and never disappointed with it. Top notch service as well. read more

I will say I'm a bit nostalgic with my love of Barry's. I REALLY miss the original location in the Westgate shopping center that was raised for costco. The original location had a wonderful atmosphere. Wood paneling everywhere, lots of personality, a giant salad bar, tons of seating AND a coffee bar. The "new" location is a little sterile. Kind of tacky, contemporary colors and furniture. Super high ceilings and a very industrial vibe. VERY much like a school cafeteria. It used to be, the locals would hang out for hours. Now sadly many of them grab food, and end up next door at Starbucks. LAME if you ask me. No worries, because the food is still terrific (even without the salad bar) and the service is friendly and helpful. Plus, the same west Toledo regulars fill the dining area, so you're always going to bump into someone you know. It's just lost the social hub it used to have. I will say, the meats they offer aren't super great quality. SO don't treat this place like a deli. Treat it like a sandwich shop that benefits from research and a few visits. Personally i've found deep love for the pastrami they keep in a warming drawer. Top it with some muenster, tomatos, onions and mayo on a salt bagel and you're in "cheating from your diet" heaven. They offer well over a dozen bagel varieties, and also several flavored cream cheeses. I love the jalapeno cream cheese, as well as the chive. I give Barry's 5 stars in part because somehow, even with our large jewish community and sandwich loving community they are THE ONLY locally owned bagel shop in town. I also give them 5 stars because they know what they are doing. While i'm pretty focused in my ordering, I really enjoy watching what other people order. They sell a shit ton of baked potatoes covered with the craziest of things (just today i say someone get a potato covered in chicken salad!!!! as well as one coverrrrrrrrrrrrred in cheese) They are locally owned with several locations. They do a great job with hiring great people. And because of my deeeeeeeep fond memories of their original location that I wish to god they would try to recreate, they get a solid 5 stars from me. read more

I've been obsessed with Barry's forever. Hands down my favorite bagel, BUT they consistently have the most inefficient back of house. This is a quick serve restaurant and they are anything but quick. They need to rethink their back of house layout and service counter. Love the bagels but I refuse to wait 30+ minutes in line for a bagel with cream cheese. They need to get it together operationally!! I give them 5 stars for food, but 1 star for service. So disappointed. read more

I am writing this review as a New Yorker. I am going to spend a lot of time talking about how they don't quite it right. It's not a New York deli/bagel store. But it is the closest I've seen outside of New York. They have nothing like this in DC, LA, or New England. I have been here 7 times in the last 9 days because it come so close to home. If you're an East Coaster lost in Toledo and need real deli food, Barry will feel like Heaven. The bagels are close. First, many of the locals pronounce it "baggle," which is wrong. The bagels are thick and fluffy. They are chewy like bagels are supposed to be. The only two drawbacks are that the bagels are a little too chewy and that their flavors are weird. They have cinnamon vanilla or raisin, but no cinnamon raisin. There is no plain egg. The only egg has poppy seeds. The everything is very good. The pumpernickel is good if you like that. I haven't tried the asiago cheese flavor yet. The wheat flavors are just okay, but that's true in New York. I've eaten many breakfasts here. The cream cheese is very good. It's whipped and light. The egg sandwiches are just good. I appreciate that they use deli ham if you request ham. But there's no grill here. In New York, they'd grill it fresh. All the eggs are cooked in the microwave. On the other hand, the eggs are beaten fresh right in front of you, so it's not a pre-made egg patty like you get at Subway. The cold cuts are great. Thin sliced, fresh deli flavor. So much better than the stuff I usually get around here. I liked the tuna salad, but wasn't thrilled by the chicken salad. But the stuff they put on the sandwiches is top notch. Big fresh leafy lettuce. Flavorful onions. The pickles they put on the side are limp kosher dills, just like home. That's a warning to native Ohioans, who take pickles seriously. They don't wrap their sandwiches in butcher paper, they do them in little plastic to go cases. Weird! The only soup I've had is the matzo ball and that was spot on. The service is very fast and efficient. I was worried that I wouldn't have time to stop here before work, but parking, walking in and ordering is faster than fast food drive thru breakfast. I appreciate that. In New York, this place would be four stars. Great service, great deli meats, great cream cheese would be loved anywhere. The bagels are the closest to New York bagels I've had outside the New York area and that makes a Toledo five. I will eat breakfast here every day that time and budget allow. read more

First time here. Decided to try it after all the great reviews and hype. So here is mine: Upon entry: very unwelcoming feel. Almost like a warehouse. Food: was really good. Nice, fresh and tasty for sure! And you have to try their cookies! Menu: kind of confusing since the electronic marquise rotates too quickly. You barely could read what's on there. Price: I guess it all depends on what you order. Some things are a bit over priced but the others are right on. Service: my favorite part of a review. Why? Because it's almost a deal breaker for me. I informed the ladies working that it's my first time here, so I was letting people in behind me in line. So I decided to order, and I kid you not, all I asked was can I chose any meat on my eggle. Oh dear. It's like I asked for the world. The sighing, the huffing and puffing. And just to clear things up, I'm not that annoying customer! Every. Single. Employee was acting that way. Total turnoff! Look, I know it's lunch time and all but please! I just dropped $22 on lunch for two. Have some respect for your customers. Would I come back here again? Yes, for sure, their eggles are delicious!... But just to give their service another try. I pride myself in trying bagels from all over the country. I've eaten bagels from as far west as Hawaii and as far east as NYC, and everywhere in between. Barry Bagel's is top notch. IMO this is the perfect bagel. Crunchy exterior accompanied by a nice flavorful interior. Portions and toppings are good and made fresh right in front of you. Before today Barry's was my most frequented restaurant in Toledo . I began going as a kid at southwyck mall and continued until yesterday. That was my last visit. This place has become trash, with a bunch of disgusting and irresponsible children working. I went in today and while ordering watched a girl who was cutting turkey to be used in sandwiches later wiping her nose with her hand multiple times. Also, There is a pandemic and the workers can't get the mask over their face. I was in last week and called the manager to complain. He brushed me off. I stupidly went back yesterday and see the same thing and the little blonde girl wiping her nose while preparing food. Never going back. read more

Had delivery from here today and it arrived at the time that they said my soup was delicious and hot but my bagel . was a disappointment. For 5$ it could have had some strawberry cream cheese on it. They have the WORST level of accuracy. Toledo must be completely enamored with their bagels for this place to thrive. It doesn't matter what location you go to. It doesn't matter who you complain to. Orders are what you want about 10% of the time. CHILDREN work here with what appears to be ZERO supervision and can't even slap a bagel sandwich together. What has happened to Barry's Westgate area location??! They had a brisk business, excellent speedy service and a clean dining area. While I understand the need for a move to a place with better parking, the new restaurant is a total disappointment. It's half the size with half the counter length and half the employees, who are tripping over one another in their tinier space. Service is slower, the tables aren't clean and the cashier is tucked around a corner where people waiting to pay clog up the route to the restroom. This isn't the Barry's quality I'm accustomed to. It's very poorly thought out!! Not a positive move, except maybe better parking. Covid will soon be over and the larger dining area will be missed. read more

I ordered a lot of food and was so excited to have pastrami and corned beef sandwiches. There wasn't much meat on the sandwich and the bread was wrong on one of them. The meat didn't taste very good at all. The Cole slaw was very dry and the bagel was not toasted and it was also the wrong kind. Not sure why all of the mistakes but I'm very disappointed. read more

Barry Bagels is a fundamental kind of place. Reviewing it feels like reviewing the number three or the color blue. It's just a part of reality. First off: the bagels are legit. I can't eat grocery store bagels because of Barry's. In terms of their sandwiches, Barry's doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. They put a bunch of good stuff between good bread and call it a day. There's nothing here you haven't had before, but it is delicious anyway. I get lox and cream cheese on an everything bagel and it is so good. Also, I think their salads are much slept-on. Their potato salad is probably my favorite potato salad in the world. They serve Bigby coffee, which is pretty good. The downside: atmosphere at the new location is not so great. I guess they were probably going for an urban contemporary vibe, but what they got is sort of like a cafeteria in a warehouse. Not super inviting. We almost always get great service though, and most employees seem to stick around for a very long time. Bottom line: Barry's still serves up a great deli sandwich and they are a Toledo institution. It's hard writing a review for a bagel place because I am biased coming from the bagel capital of the world, New York. This place is actually the first place outside of New York I've had a bagel, so wasn't sure what I'd expect, but overall I was disappointed. The bagels are smaller than I expected, and to me did not have a fresh baked kind of feel, it had the same consistency as Thomas brand bagels. Fairness, there was a lot of options of bagels, and cream cheeses however, and having real blueberries in my bagel was a bonus. The one thing that put me off however was that they "cook/reheat" the "eggs"in the microwave. My gf got the egg and ham on a bagel, and the egg was just a saucer shaped product, stuck in the microwave for a minute with a slice of cheese and the ham, and that was it. To me this is unheard of, if you order an egg with cheese on a bagel at any bagel store/deli on NY you get a made to order egg/bacon, on your bagel. Overall for the price we spent, $14 for a bagel, bagel with egg, and 2 drinks, I expect more than what I got. read more

Move over Panera, because my bagel standards have escalated all thanks to Barry Bagels. True, it may be a favorite hangout for high schoolers, but I can overlook that so long as I get my hands on their yummylicious bagels. Favorites thus far are the Asiago Cheese and the Cinnamon Vanilla. The cinnamon vanilla is a treat in of itself sans cream cheese, but the asiago cheese bagel and the chive cream cheese is a killer combo. BB is a bit on the pricey side, especially when it comes to some of the other menu items, but I'll make the best out of what T-town has got to offer. Don't forget to pair the bagel/eggel/sandwich with a cup of Biggby coffee -- talk about an ingenuous idea! And as a random aside, the webmaster(s) of barrybagels.com has an obsession with babies and bagels. They're cute pictures nonetheless. read more

I love Barry Bagels, but I cannot give this location more than the minimum lone star rating. The staff is always incredibly rude. I get that they're busy, but I've worked in food service and I was always able to maintain a friendly persona under pressure. It's not difficult. It's just a sandwich. You can crack a smile and be friendly. There are always about 8 different people trying to help make sandwiches in a very small space when it's busy, so food is made sloppily and you have to yell over other customers to get your order to them in busy lunch hours. Consistency of quality and portions between employees is poor. Potato salad at this location is pretty hit or miss as well. It's either mostly flavorless or so overpowered with mayonnaise, it's repulsive. One of the most annoying things I've experienced at this location is that I've ordered the same thing for years (corned beef bagel sandwich, potato salad, drink), yet I've been charged anywhere between $8-12. It's a combo meal and I am consistently charged exactly $9.92 at the Holland-Sylvania Road location. I've questioned the cashier when it's more expensive and have been given a different, stupid reason each time. Each lame reason was clearly made up on the spot. Also, they have had the exact same BOGO (aka: buy one, get one) coupons in circulation for years - literally, *years* - with monthly changing expiration dates. I once grabbed one from home without looking and it had expired the previous day. Even though the exact same coupon was in circulation, the cashier would not let me slide. I was pretty infuriated and annoying as a regular. This guy had waited on me multiple times and should recognize my patronage. I told him I didn't want the second sandwich, since my coupon wasn't going to be honored, and he threw the sandwich in the trash right in front of me, with a matter-of-fact attitude. Can someone in the service industry be any ruder? I used to frequent this location all the time when I worked in the area and went to UT, but pretty much stopped following coupongate. If a local place can't help out a regular who patronized them once or twice weekly, they don't deserve to be in business. Go to the Barry's location at the corner of Holland-Sylvania Rd. and Sylvania Ave. if you want a completely 180º better experience. read more

I love this place...they have the best bagels that I've ever eaten outside of New York City. My favorites are the everything which has just "everything" and is totally popping with flavor and also the plain bagel. I'm that kind of girl...either all or nothing. Plain bagels are especially good when you get them fresh and they're still a little warm. Barry's bagels are dense but not too much and chewy like a bagel should be and flavorful...It tastes like a bagel! :) If I get a sandwich it's normally pastrami because theirs is delish. But I also like their smoked turkey a lot. Their soups are great (homemade) as are the sides...mac salad is very good and creamy! The cream cheeses have a nice variety and are all mixed there in the stores. The actual restaurants are bland...nothing to them like a fast food place but the food is great. This place is close to my cousins' home, and I always look forward to getting some Barry's every time I visit Toledo. The bagels are so fresh.. My favorite is the sesame seed toasted bagel with jalapeno cream cheese. It's not just cream cheese with jalapenos thrown in, they add some spices that add so much flavor. Love this place! read more
