Thanks to Steve, our old, faithful car is now over 30! We are very grateful to him for taking care of it, with his one-of-a-kind expert knowledge, and honest, genuine care. We had a check engine light go on in September. He squeezed us in for a diagnosis in late October (yes, he's that backed-up with appointments). He did a thorough check of the car (we felt it was running a bit sluggish), and found a big issue with cylinder exhaust valves, requiring a costly engine repair. He gave me an estimate to do the repair. I asked about a couple of used Subaru cars he had on the lot, and he gave his opinions and costs. I also asked about 'what if it were his car' scenario, and he said he'd repair it, since he knows our car model year is a good one. Given all that information, we decided to repair our car, hoping that he wouldn't discover anything else serious once he took the engine apart. We scheduled for the beginning of January for two weeks. Happily, he did not find anything else after examining the engine and the rest of the car. He was able to get a part custom made, and he completed the job sooner than expected (and at a lower cost than the original estimate). He also gave us a recommendation for the next set of tires (which he advised we'll need sooner rather than later). Our car is running noticeably better (no sluggishness). If only there were more mechanics with the integrity and knowledge that Steve has. read more

He knows the cars in and out and is a dying breed of mechanics with an unmeasurable amount of knowledge and experience. The prices are fair for the quality craftsmanship that comes from his work. Subie Steve is absolutely amazing! He was our savior while we lived in Sacramento. My husband was in college, I was working a mediocre job and we have a Subaru that we had driven into the ground. We ended up with some issues putting us into some rough spots without a car. Steve went above and beyond with his services for us. He is honest, knowledgeable and amazing at what he does. I wouldn't be able to thank him enough for everything he did for us while we lived there. I only wish we still lived in the area to continue taking our Subarus to him. Steve is a knowledgeable, honest, informative, meticulous, and experienced mechanic. I wish all mechanics were like him. When I brought my car in, he ask me many questions that most mechanics have never asked me to get a better idea on the condition of the vehicle. Maybe this was because of the extensive work that needed to be done. The repair cost were less than I thought, and did everything in a timely manner. I understand why he is appointment only now. I brought Steve my very recently purchased 2003 Subaru Baja, which made some odd sounds. I have had both my 2001 outback and my daughter's 1999 outback to Barsotti's for various repairs over the last 4-5 years. Absolutely friendly and competent. Cost of services are very competitive. Actually I started by calling Clark Frame and Alignment to ask them some questions about getting my lowered Subaru STI aligned. They referred me to call Barsotti's. I left Steve a message and he quickly called me back and chatted with me. He told me exactly what I needed. I then asked him about getting my car aligned with his shop. He then told me that they usually refer people to Clark for that. This means he was nice enough to call me back and spend time answering my questions knowing that I wouldn't end up being his customer. Now that is classy. I would NEVER EVER take my Subaru anywhere else. Steve is so honest and helpful. I came to Barsotti's Auto Care nearly five years ago when my head gasket failed. Someone else had done it only a year prior and had done it incorrectly. Steve fixed the head gasket and gave my car a good overhaul. It is still running like a dream and has nearly 260,000 miles on it. I take it in at lease once a year, Steve gives it a good looking over and only does what is necessary (again SUPER honest) to keep it running great. I cannot thank him enough!!! read more

Have had all my subarus worked on here in the past. Best price.....no, there is cheaper. Does Barsotti know what he is doing, without a doubt he does. If you are trying to fix your subaru he is the man to go to. I just gave him my car with a 5 week waiting period to even look at it and im fine with that knowing a true subaru mechanic will be working on it, not just some 'work on anything' mechanic. Also I towed my car 100 miles from truckee just to have steve work on it. He is worth it. read more
