I am going to start by saying that I have used Scotty's multiple times in the past twenty years and mostly I have received 5 star service (most notably when my son had a Saturn that had a check engine light and they tried to fix it and when they could not (through no fault of their own) they refunded me all my money and sent me to the dealer. I found them to be very honest and fair pricing (not the cheapest, but quality work). What has prompted me to write this review today is the experience I had with Justin on the phone a couple of days ago. My husband and I recently purchased a 2022 Hyundai Sonata. While looking through the owner's manual we noticed that this car specifically recommends spark plug replacement at 40,000 miles. We just hit that and and not wanting to void our warranty we called to arrange a spark plug replacement. To note, I could have done this myself, but again I don't want to give Hyundai any reason to say the engine failed due to improper maintenance. When I called to inquire about pricing, Justin immediately told me I don't need to change them this early. He then proceeded to tell me that Hyundai just recommends this to get people to spend more money. He told me he used to work for them and it isn't the spark plugs that is the problem with their engines but rather a rod. Look, I appreciate someone trying to save me money, but I also believe that when a car is still under warranty manufacturer recommendations should be followed. I probably would not have written this review except I saw Mary K's review and have to agree that Justin seems to have some kind of bias against Hyundai. I know their GDI engines were not great, but this is a newer model and it has a turbo engine and I was just trying to do what was right for the car. I can't believe that I walked in to Scotty's and got an estimate for work to be done on the wife's car and lo and behold, I paid exactly what they estimated. Holy SH!T!!! You mean they didn't add unnecessary BS to my work I had them do?!?! That's F'n unbelievable. What a great experience to have a shop that doesn't try to price gouge you at every turn. Sorry not sorry for low rating,BUT charging 115$ for oil change alone is ROBBERY! Especially when the oil didn't even last. Only 2.75 months or 11 weeks. On top of that it didn't even make it half way to amount of mileage. Not worth it take your Acura or expensive cars else where! The car has no leaks nor does it have engine problems been checked by my hometown mechanic. Don't try to gaslight me, bc the car lasted almost full year with a different shops work. When I went to leave work at the beginning of last week, my car would not start. I figured it was the ignition. Multiple people have recommended Scotty's in Orangevale to me a few times in the past. I saw they had a location in Roseville, closer to my office, and I called ahead because I figured that they would be closed by the time AAA was able to tow my car there. Justin was very nice and explained the process of AAA dropping my car off after hours. The next morning I called them as soon as they opened. He let me know that he wasn't sure he'd have time to look at it that day but would call back asap. Within a few hours he called me back to let me know the problem was with the ignition, and told me my options for repairing it - price, time frame, expected longevity of the different options. My car is older and has over 175,000 miles on it so I went with the cheaper repair. Car was ready for pickup by the end of the day and has been starting up great ever since. I felt like Justin was very upfront with everything, and I think another shop could have and would have tried to get a lot more money out of me in the moment. But the experience I had with Justin at Scotty's will ensure I will come back in the future, and that I will be recommending this place to other people looking for a trustworthy mechanic. Car repairs are very expensive and stressful so considering the circumstances, this experience went as well as it possibly could have. Thank you. read more

I have been taking my cars to Scotty's for years, both my Toyota Camry and the last 4 years my Hyundai Accent. Today, I came in for a routine Oil Change and was told by Justin that it was 2 quarts low. He literally said, and did NOT ask his opinion, that I should not expect my car to last til 150,000 miles if that and he was worried for his Son who just bought a Hyundai. Yes, older cars that reach 100,00 miles or more will do that as I have similar experiences with my Toyota, Hondas, Fords, Volvos.... Justin, do you have a crystal ball? My Intuition tells me because he has worked for Hyundai in the past and had a bad experience with them, he is projecting that opinion onto customers who own one. Will NOT be coming back!!! He assured me that they have been working with Justin on his Customer Service skills and his sharing of opinions which Chris agrees ! My maintenance check up went well! Very upbeat, friendly, honest and straightforward experience. I read reviews of Scotty's to help me decide on this location for my first car check up in the area, and all the good reviews were very accurate. When I requested an appointment they were able to squeeze me in the next day. I was given a price quote before handing over my car keys, and because there were no additional issues with my car, paid the expected quote. This is the 2nd time I have had a vehicle serviced at Scotty's and I am so impressed. They made the process so simple, from the first phone call, booking the appointment, providing a night drop off system, communicating their findings and plan throughout the job, and completing the repairs in a timely fashion. I have taken my Ford Escape to Scotty's since I moved here six years ago. I have never had better mechanics! My car began shuddering and the engine light was on. I had it towed to them and slept that night thinking I was going to be paying $10,000 for a new transmission! Mid morning Tom called me to let me know it was something else and the estimate was about $200. I was so relieved! When I picked it up it ran like a new car! I am so happy! I brought in my 2015 Camry after an accident. It needed a replacement engine. These idiots put in the wrong wiring harness! Then they returned the car with alarm lights and no transmission indicator and said I was on my own. They don't know what they are doing! I had to take the car to someone else to figure out what Scotty's broke! Steer clear. Response to Bill C.: Your response is not correct Bill C. You put an Avalon engine in the Camry and didn't bother to check compatibility with the attached wiring harness. The wiring harness was not. Also, you didn't immediately reimburse me for an expert to figure out what you could not. I had to come back for that. read more

Probably one of the best automotive shops that I have ever brought my car to and I've been to a lot around the Roseville area all the way up to Nevada County. I had some work done on my vehicle over summer and there was some bad cabling issues on my car. I drive a 2003 Chevy Tracker and there were cables that were shredded along with some sensors that needed fixing. I had a tight window because I was getting ready to move back down to LA in about a week. They were able to squeeze me in the next day to take a look at what was going on and I remember they were able to get it figure out + fixed for me by the following day. I was so grateful for their efficiency and attention to detail in such a short period of time. Scotty's Automotive is what auto repair used to be and should be. The guys are extremely nice and helpful. They listen. I got my truck in quickly. I was able to drop it the night before and they locked it up. I received a call at about nine the next morning. They talked about the work I needed done. Even though I asked for a complete inspection they didn't try to pile on marginally needed repairs. My truck was ready by 10:30. Not end of day like most. My wife took our GS350 to Lexus for oil change and 70K inspection (Lexus of Roseville). Seemed simple enough, but mechanic conducting inspection at dealership found several items that needed immediate repair/replacement including replacing the rear shocks on the vehicle that were reported to be leaking fluid. The replacement of the (2) shocks was quoted at $1,200. I told my wife to have them change the oil and I scheduled an appointment with Scotty's for Monday. Note, my wife was also told that (2) tires needed replacement, but Discount Tires disagreed and stated tires still were above replacement tread depth guide. After the car went up on the rack the mechanic and Justin took me out to the shop to inspect the rear shocks. To all of our surprise the shocks were NOT leaking fluid and were in perfect working order. Once again Scotty's to the rescue! The unfortunate part is my wife would have spent $1,200 at Roseville Lexus replacing shocks that did not need to be replaced. What did Scotty's charge for this outstanding, honest service...FREE! That did sit well with me so I paid for everyone's lunch on Monday. Thanks again Scotty's you guys are the best! read more
