Visited Bar-taco last week 4/27 and it was my first time! The atmosphere was nice and welcoming. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and drinks they serve and recommended some great tacos. I had Baja fish, Chile-lime shrimp and the glazed pork belly. I loved the fish and shrimp but the pork belly was over cooked and hard. I also ordered the guacamole and chips - delicious! For my drink I had the Paloma Fresca - don't order it! Worst Paloma I've ever tasted, they use bitters and it's a taste of licorice which is not good with tequila. Always a big fan of visiting Bartaco. The food is always good and the service is quick. I've been coming here long before they switched to a mobile ordering system with no server. The latest set up has its pros and cons. Ordering from your phone allows you the ease of quickly ordering without the need of a server but I personally don't love it. It forces everyone to spend a lot of time on a phone while out eating. They have great food options, GLUTEN FRIENDLY, and the drinks are delicious (the seasonal mescal watermelon drink is amazing!) One thing I wish is that the online menu did a better job of alerting you of the spice level of the tacos. A few that we've ordered have been so spicy we couldn't eat it. OH WEE this place is great!! COVID NOTES: They are definitely doing it right during this time! Seating is available indoors or outside. Once seated, you are informed that the menu/ordering is available via QR code. The code takes you to a site where you order and pay, then your food is brought to the table. Very little interaction but very friendly staff if you do have questions. Everyone was very kind and helpful. The restaurant also added extra dividers and space between tables. Everyone is wearing masks and keeping their distance. Great job!! I ordered a rice bowl with ahi and it was delicious. Perfectly seared tuna topped a good size bowl of rice and veggies. The peppers added a nice crunch and I devoured the whole thing! They also have Mexican Coke, which is a must-order for me. This was my first experience with Bartaco, and I was pretty impressed! I have a lot of weird allergies so I have to make modifications to pretty much anything on their menu - they were accommodating and thorough and double checked with me first before doing something. I really appreciated that. The food was really REALLY good. I've never had glazed pork belly like this - it just melted in my mouth Price wise, everything was pretty standard for around the Dr. Phillips area. Beautiful scenery! Very very green and lush. Tasty tiny food is the best way to describe Bar Taco. We ordered 3 items. The standout was the duck birria which was a mouth happy dish. Prepared as a small (very small) quesadilla with dipping sauce. It was a very accurate birria flavor. Only a little over salty. We also shared the three bite oyster taco and a tuna tatako. If you're in the mood for tacos, or any other Mexican inspired dishes, Bartaco is an excellent option. The portions are relatively small, so if you come with an appetite I encourage you to order multiple items off the menu. I had the gazpacho as an appetizer, which was both refreshing and savory. For my main course I opted to have three tacos and the chicken verde rice bowl, all of which I really enjoyed. For those with peanut allergies you're very safe here. My only complaint about Bartaco is the portion size, as they are somewhat small. For the prices being charged I'd like the portions to be a little larger. I love Bartaco and have been going since I found one in Atlanta back in 2015, so this review may be a bit biased. I've also been to this location and the one in Tampa, but I've just never left a review. I haven't been back in years, but it didn't disappoint at all. My favorite Crispy Oyster taco is still as delicious as ever and the guac is always perfectly seasoned. I tried the Tuna Tatako lettuce taco and I may have a new favorite - "ancho-crusted tuna, asian slaw, thai basil vinaigrette, soy glaze, lettuce shell (served chilled) topped with: toasted sesame seeds". The slaw and vinaigrette complemented the tuna so well and the lettuce shell was so soft, like butter lettuce. I also had the duck birria which was good, but tasted a bit different than the birria I'm used to. I'm a fruity drink lover, so I ordered the Pineapple Express and it was the perfect amount of sweet for me. For dessert, I decided to try something different and went with the coconut ice cream. Bar-taco has exceptional food, I highly recommend their plantains and duck birria and broth. When you're seated all you have to do is scan the QR code on the table and order your food. Their kids meals are a good size accept you should keep in mind their tacos are somewhat small (4.5in approximately so if your going to just order tacos try 3-6 depending on your "hunger level." While this is a chain, this restaurant certainly carries a local feel. The food is too notch with street tacos being their specialty. They have a good assortment of vegetarian, seafood, and meat tacos and non taco options such as birria, rice bowls, salads, and chips & guac! They also give you a few hot sauces at the table if you like to fire it up a bit. If you're keto, the restaurant also can wrap any tacos in lettuce instead of corn tortillas for a tiny upcharge. Their margaritas are also very very popular and delicious. Ordering is all done through QR codes / phones so service is typically very efficient and friendly, and prices are very reasonable. It's a great environment to bring friends or families but it can sometimes be a little bit loud. There is also great patio seating when the weather is nice. This place is incredible. The vibes inside and out are very welcoming. Inside the decor is beautiful and they also have games for entertainment which is great for the kids. We sat outside because it was beautiful out and the decor outside is just as great as the inside. The menu is via a barcode so you have to scan and pay through there. The tacos are all amazing but all the food pretty much has a kick so be prepared for that. I do believe you can ask for stuff to be removed but if you like kick this is the right place to try. I really enjoyed the ceviche because it was super fresh and the chili lime shrimp taco was my favorite next to the pork belly with the pickled red onions on top. They can definitely accommodate for small or large parties which is nice. And if you look up you'll notice awesome lighting decorations from the ceiling. It looks like wooden baskets surrounding the lighting which makes for a dim light ambiance. Very cool! Food: The chips were big round discs instead of the regular nacho chips you'd expect. You just break it up in pieces yourself. The guacamole was good, but their salsa verse caught my palette's attention. It was fresh and had a nice kick to it. It was spicy, but not overly so. My favorite taco, hands down, would have to be the Carne Asada one which was heavenly. For a beverage, I had the grapefruit agua fresca which was sweet with just a little sour. After visiting my mom at Harbor Chase of Dr Phillips I was ready for lunch. I don't live around here so I was looking for something different and super good! I have not eaten out much since covid -19 hit! I browsed the open establishments and decided on BarTaco. I am so glad I did! They do things a little differently. A corporate decision was made to add wood panels between the booths so when you sit down it's very private. They give you a card with a UPC code to scan to start browsing the menu. It's very easier to add or delete items in your order and you can easily customize. Another reviewer Had a challenge with this but there is an option. And if you get stuck there are friendly people around to help you. I was brought water within minutes. When I placed the order I got worried for a minute cause it said 35 minute wait but I only ordered some small items. I sat patiently sipping my homemade grapefruit ginger drink which was delicious! My food came as they were done within 5 minutes I received my first item the corn; hot and so yummy! The tacos followed next. The ribeye steak was crumbles and I put the kimchi on the side so it wouldn't be too Spicy. It was very good even if there was not much steak. There was a bit more of the pork belly and boy was it delicious! I made a mistake with the duck quesadilla. I can't eat too spicy and I didn't realize the tomatillo sauce has jalapeños in it so I couldn't eat it. There was someone who came. to the table to change out my food to something I can eat. So I chose another pork belly corn taco since the first one was so good! Bar Taco! Ughhh my go to spot when I craving tacos but trying to do keto but really missing the tortilla! Ha they have a lettuce wrap option but of course just be careful of the fillings if you are truly trying to stick to keto, I do lazy keto so often and I splurg without being toooo guilty. As most restaurants are.. you have to use your phone to order, it can be frustrating at times but ehh what can you do. Everything is always delicious, pork belly is my favorite but I gotta watch the sugar content, the fish.. I could cry it's so good, and the beef.. again sweet and delish! It was not a very comfortable customer experience for me. This was a very disappointing outing. First we get seated just after 12 noon inside. The place is Freezing!!!! It is significantly below the out side temperature of 74 degrees. It was in the 60s. While looking at the menu online and making what we would like I ask if we could move outside where it was comfortable. As a customer I did not like being a Ice cube. The when I got out side I had to reduce my entire Order in their system . Warning when you scan the code to order you can not move tables!!! I had to reduce my entire order in the system when we moved over to the patio where it was comfortable for us. warning when putting in your order 1. As I mentioned above the order is based on table. When you scan the table barcode it is tied to the table. 2. The expect the orders to be per individual. If you order for you and your partner in the one order they assume it's for one person then you will have to ask for extra tray to divide the food. 3. I had to enter my credit card by hand in order to put in my order. Now the good and bad for me on their food. We started with the Ginger and mint tea. I liked it it was refreshing and much needed on my first bite of the Pork-belly Taco. it is very spicy. It was so spicy that I could not taste the Pork-Belly! I was disappointed because I love the taste of good Pork-Belly but it was so masked by the seasoning. The hot seasoning left my tongue numb. Next I had the sesame ribeye taco. The seasoning again overpowered the steak. I love a good ribeye but it was so heavily seasoned I could not taste the ribeye. My partner and I shared the roasted duck taco. The seasoning was at the right level that I could task the duck and it was great! For dessert we tried the Churros with chocolate dipping sauce. it is WOW!!! Give my that Bartaco closed in Bham last year, we've been looking wherever we visit. And Orlando is lucky to still have one, so we decided to visit Monday night. The restaurant was so quiet, which meant great service for us. Our waiter was there the minute we put up our little card taking our order, and everything was on point the entire night. We thankfully got the last duck quesadilla (how did we get the last one at 7PM?!?, but either way, I was happy). The tacos we ordered were on point... pork belly is my favorite. Some of the taco shells were super thin and fell apart upon picking up, but that was ok... that's what a fork is for! And or course a trip to Bartaco is not complete with some churros and chocolate! I came in early Sunday evening on 11/7/21 to enjoy the great vibe of this well ran establishment. I was immediately greeted by Derek (Manager) who sat me immediately. Last time I came in I sat outside because it was peaceful and had a great view. In order to experience everything that this place had to offer I chose to enjoy the amazingly decorated and eclectic indoor seating for my meal. Derek was attentive and showed me how to maneuver the app as I'm not completely tech savvy. I decided to order tacos. No way can I go wrong there, right? I absolutely enjoyed the pork belly the last time I was there so I order 2 of them, 1 shrimp and 1 steak. The tacos are on the small side. Last time I ordered 3 and was ok which is why I went with the 4th one this go-around. Shrimp: The spice level (heat) on this is a bit much for me. I'm sensitive to a lot of spice but the shrimp was definitely fresh and seemed like it was wild-caught. The corn tortillas to all of the tacos were not at all warmed with was a bit disappointing but it helped with the heat of the shrimp in this case Pork Belly: Boy oh boy...I was looking forward to these so much as my last experience was spectacular. It fell a short sadly. They were dry and seemed as though they were sitting for a bit. I ate 1 of them and about ¼ of the other. I hate wasting food so I truly tried but I passed on it. Steak: The kimchi is an incredible touch to this. The steak was well seasoned and tasted fresh. No complaints about this. I even added some of the Roja sauce from their choice of condiments. The show-stoppers and absolutely must haves on any of my other visits: The maduros (sweet plantains) and the aioli. I have been eating maduros since before I could walk. I have never had an aioli with it before which I thought would have been a weird pairing. I was completely wrong! If I could take a bath in it I probably would have. The street corn did not disappoint. It was juicy, sweet, and had a bit of heat to it. I also had their pineapple cocktail which was great. I hate the taste of strong alcohol but I'm not the type to drink a cup of syrup either. This was well balanced and refreshing. Had I thought to have a designated driver, I probably would have had a second one...or third. A bit of observations that I enjoyed: When Derek (manager) was the first to greet me I thought "crap, their short!" You don't typically see a manager waiting on tables unless the restaurant was short. Even if they were short, it did not appear to me that they were short staffed at all. In fact, food came out quickly and was piping hot (not only for me but for others). Staff also seemed genuinely happy and smiled a lot with restaurant patrons. A particular waitress would walk around to check all the tables and see if anyone was in need of anything. The bar is well stocked and just a great sight to see with the lighting and how the bottles were placed. The hooks under the counter were a nice thought for those who sat at the bar with a bag or purse to be able to rest it around their legs hanging from the hooks instead of placing it on the floor or having to inconveniently hang on to it. First, I must confess that we didn't plan to go to Bartaco, the Ramen place two doors down had a extensive wait and we walked into Bartaco to check out the menu. The inside of the place is pretty laid-back and inviting. Similar to some sushi restaurants or other dim sum inspired spots everything is à la carte. You go down the menu, putting in numbers of things that you would like. As you would expect, they have an extensive assortment of tacos and other non-taco fare. My daughter had the chicken quesadillas. They were good, but very small and we had to order two helpings. Eight bucks for two small tortillas felt a little pricey. And if you wanted rice or chips or anything else you had to buy it separately. We had a spicy chicken tortilla soup, which was good and reasonably priced at $7. We chose an assortment of tacos that were excellent but kind of small and not worth the 3, 4 and 5 dollars they were charging. The winner for us was the Aji tuna taco. Small but delicious. We also ordered an Ahi tuna rice bowl, which was not nearly as good with a tiny amount of tuna and mostly green peppers and brown rice. Definitely would not order again. I'm assuming the same would hold true for any of the rice bowls. We were going to get a salad, but ultimately decided against it My overall review of the restaurant is still positive. Cool decor and vibe.It's pricey for what it is, but at least the food quality is excellent and whatever you spend your money on, it should taste great. Service was inconsistent. They were nice enough, explaining how to order etc. After that there was no real interaction. Only delivery people dropping off things as they were ready. Our daughter got her food very quickly. We had to wait for our soups (about 10 min) and then our tacos and Ahi bowl. If you asked for help you would get it, but seeing that the waters were low or timely delivery of everything were pain points. We waited almost 30 min for our deserts. We had to ask to prompt them to check.
