We started with the Lebanese mezza, the hot tahini greens, the grilled halloumi, and a fried-grits-with-ricotta special.

ORIGIN: Khalliah Murphy (aka Lady K) enjoyed cooking since…read moreshe was a little girl. After completing culinary school, Murphy started a Yonkers-based catering company, and later, in 2016, moved north to open a brick and mortar cafe -- Lady K's Southern Comfort. LOCATION: Lady K's Southern Comfort is located in a small strip mall along Violet Avenue/Route 9G. Ample parking is available. CONCEPT: Lady K's offers quintessential southern comfort food, such as rice with pigeon peas and slow cooked savory collard greens, however tastes of other culinary heritages, such as empanadas, are sprinkled across the menu. Lady K's primarily offers dishes that represent home cooked southern meals -- on site, as take out, or custom catered events. SERVICE: One thing that stands out about Lady K's Southern Comfort is the homey feeling. This extends to the service. During my weekend afternoon visit Khalliah and Shawn Murphy's daughter and son were eagerly helping (Little K and Littlest K). Although customers place their orders at the counter, I was still asked whether I liked what I had chosen. My response brought a proud smile to Little K's face! EXPERIENCE: Plates are available in three sizes, with a protein and two choice of sides. I experienced the small fried chicken with collard greens and macaroni and cheese on the side. Khalliah's family were known for their fried chicken recipe in their Bronx neighborhood, so it comes as no surprise that the chicken was expertly executed -- crisp, non-greasy exterior encasing juicy, moist interior at every bite. Complementing this was the collard greens, in which multiple flavors were married and had just the right amount of vinegary flavor. Next time I will ask for double sides of collard greens -- it's that outstanding! While multiple tables are set up for dining, Lady K's is currently primarily set up for take out. Although photos on Yelp suggest there was plated service in the past, all food is now served in compartmented styrofoam take out containers. This was my only disappointment as I feel household plates and utensils would reflect the homey dishes for those who are looking to dine in. TIPS: Check Lady K's Facebook profile for rare temporary changes in daily hours. Kool Aid is one of the beverage options. I have never seen that before in a menu and I think it's available adds to the homey aspect of the meals prepared at offered at Lady K's Southern Comfort. Kool Aid was a staple in homes in my neighborhood, and the cheerfully colored packets of flavoring powders are rarely found in grocery stores today.

That, pardner, is your friendly neighborhood Outlaw Saloon, so c'mon down! Wowza this saloon was super hoppin' on a Thursday night! Plenty of parking in front and back but the lots were almost full. I haven't been to this location since its past life as a BBQ place, but have been keen to visit Outlaw Saloon since they opened last year. The atmosphere is tight! Now the decor would be nuthin if the food were lousy, but here they do all right too! More than all right. I tucked into the rodeo burger, thick and juicy, well-seasoned and satisfying, with a side of excellent fries. The same could be said for the pork cowboy, a grilled pork chop with a crispy, slightly charred crust, topped with a melting pat of herb-seasoned butter. I wasn't crazy about the pork riblets which were kind of tough and chewy, and not at all spicy for Nashville hot. Next time I will opt for the wings. We happened upon an open mic night, and it must've also been a bike night as a bunch of bikers were gathered on the outside patio (didn't expect to see that in Chestnut Ridge, honestly). The atmosphere was very lively, and we enjoyed the amped up acoustic sets. Needless to say, it was a busy night, but service was not lacking. Our waitress Melinda was super sweet, and I think the owner(?) also came out to check on things. 4.5 stars but rounding up to 5 for aesthetics, ambiance, and cool folks. This is a fun place to hang. Next time, I wanna dress thematically. Yeehaw!

The service was outstanding. Although they looked short staffed that day, we didn't have to wait for anything. The bartender and waitress were hustling and everything was smooth. They have a cool outdoor area which will be great when the weather gets warmer. I can't wait to go back.

The decor is adorable--it feels like a hip, boho living room with beautiful plants and cozy hidden corners. The soft lighting and music created a wonderful ambiance that was enjoyed by the diverse mix of couples and families present. Loved that there were kids there :-) The service and food were equally excellent. Our waitress was kind and attentive, and our drinks arrived quickly. We particularly loved the broccoli cheddar fritters. My burger was delicious, especially the dipping sauce and fries, and my friend thoroughly enjoyed the steak. Thank you for a wonderful evening. It was my friend's birthday, and we had a party of six. Everyone at the table was blown away by how amazing the food was. Absolutely zero complaints from anyone, ONLY compliments. The drinks were great too! Luckily, Darlings is also extremely helpful and friendly; they have so many vegan and gluten-free options and will work to make sure you get the accommodations you need! The decorations and vibes were also great! Lots of pretty art on the walls and atmospheric seating, lighting, and music. The outdoors section was so pretty. Definitely a great place to have a party or gathering! It is sort of upscale (but still down-to-earth) and a little pricey, but I do think it's definitely worth it for the experience. Just a wonderful place! The highlight of our already fantastic experience was definitely our server, Zack. He was the absolute nicest, most wonderful guy. Even his demeanor is so welcoming and kind, and he was so on top of everything that dinner was literally seamless. He returns any friendliness any positive energy you give off right back to you. I just can't emphasize enough what a kind person he is. I cannot sing his praises enough. He absolutely made the experience, and we are all so grateful to him for it! All-in-all, totally come for any dinner events or birthdays if it's in your budget. You'll get what you pay for and all of the staff is so personable and kind. Highly recommend!!

Of course we cleaned up and walked over and were even more thrilled when we arrived to a completely empty dining room with the exception of our wonderful waiter and attentive host. The waiter was warm and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The ambiance is cozy and has an elevated feel. Service…read morewas indeed spotty on the Saturday night we came here and prices- well....they veer into sharp-intake-of-breath territory, but the cocktail and wine list are good in value. We'd just wrapped up seeing a property in the area- so coming here for dinner, fell just in line with timing before heading down home. Butterfield is Hasbrouck House's on-site farm-to-table restaurant located a bit north from New Paltz. While we didn't stay at the hotel, folks can certainly dine here. Don't even think that you'll be seated in an ultra-cheap bar area because their bar is put together elegantly with brushed, brassy-gold touches, navy, grey+cream patterned wallpaper and a comfortable tufted leather(?) sofa against the windows. Those are pretty much the overall touches with lots of tone and a lot of warmth. Music was a great mix of 60s-70s R&B. Yeah.... here. Hubs and I were digging it. Naturally, Butterfield's menu will change regularly according with what's in season and available. Between our 'Small Plates' of mixed Beet salad+ yogurt ($18) and hubs' crispy wonton Tuna Crudo+ yuzu tacos ($22)- they were very tasty and pricy for the small size. Mr. Mixologist packed our cocktails extremely well with an incredible TKO. Our main plates were very good- but again, small for the dollar amount. No one needs to gorge on food- but I wished my palm-size $44 Halibut was a bit bigger. To their defense, it had a tasty rub and done PERFECTLY moist though. Hubs' $54 "dry aged strip loin" was a total of 3 pieces. And my take-out Truffle Risotto had uncooked rice. Again, it's small and expensive at $38 for a main plate Hubs and I eat well and usually, money is no object- if it's within reason. I totally get that fine dining typically means splurging a little for high-quality items or that Butterfield is using 'complex cooking techniques' or that you'll get an original dining experience in these neck of the woods for those who want uniqueness. But there are a ton of restaurants that use the same skill set, quality organic ingredients, root veggies, etc- and they're way more reasonably priced than this location.
