That being said, the place was packed after 7 so consider what time you're coming when trying to walk in without a reservation. The entrance is up the stairs and as soon as you walk through the door, you're greeted with a great view of Winthrop Park and the surrounding area. We were promptly seated and the lively wait staff came and took our drink order shortly thereafter. We started with the complimentary papadum and chutneys and our appetizer order of hara bhara kebab which was a nice vegetarian fritter. For our entrees, we got the baingan bhartan, chicken tikka masala (dairy free one), yellow daal tadka, tandoori roti, onion kulcha, and paneera bharura. The breads were all fantastic and I enjoyed the chicken tikka masala (dairy free made with coconut milk) just to see how it was different from a standard chicken tikka masala. For dessert, we got the gajar halwa (which was awesome!) and kulfi. Overall, I'm glad to have finally tried this place and may revisit it again in the future. Worth considering if you're in the area.

The soup (or is it a sauce?) was way thick, and overall the dish was overly salted. There also needs to be more noodle, and more mustard green overall. The curry puff was a good idea, but the puff itself was rather dry, and not particularly well integrated with the chicken, potatoes, and alliums. The stuffing might also have been underseasoned. In general the dishes demonstrate expert preparation, but the concepts need reworking. The new environment (across the street from the former location) is a tad loud when populated with many diners, though visually it's a pleasant place to dine. The servers were attentive and respectful.

The black pepper pork is probably my favorite and, in my opinion, the strongest thing on the menu. The chicken adobo is solid, the tangy tamarind chicken is good, and the chicken karahi was tasty, though the chicken itself was a little dry. I also tried the beef rendang, which was not really beef rendang to me. Maybe beef-rendang-inspired? It read more like a beef stew with potatoes. Still tasty, but I would not go in expecting traditional rendang. A couple caveats: friends have mentioned that the rice can be a little dry or uneven at dinner time, and I do think some dishes can get salty toward the end of the day. Maybe the sauce has been sitting and reducing? Unclear. I usually go for lunch, and that seems like the move. Price-wise, it does add up if you're getting lunch here every day. My recent order (large size) came out to about $17 after tax and tip. If I get the large, I can usually stretch it into two meals, so that feels more reasonable, but these are "pleasantly full" meals, not "I have defeated myself" meals. My practical advice: if you're nearby, rushing for lunch, and forgot to bring your own food, this is a very useful spot. If you're not ravenously hungry, get the large and split it into two meals. Also, I wouldn't necessarily add string beans because it seems like they already include a small amount. I probably wouldn't eat here every day because I think I'd get bored, but I'm glad it exists. While Flavor Boom is not my every-day lunch, it is indeed my "I forgot food and need something warm, filling, and tasty before my next meeting" lunch.
