Basecamp at Snowbowl is a beautiful place to visit, not only in the winter where you can obviously go skiing and hang out in the lodge or spend the night. The people in the know, know that in late September and into October the beautiful Aspen trees change color to a beautiful gold. When we arrived the sky was adorned with pillow, fluffy, white clouds, and blue skies which made for breathtaking views. We were blessed to see some Elk deers and the wrestling golden leaves at the Aspens. "And to you idiots who think it's cool to carve your name into the Aspen trees, how about if I carve my name into your forehead?" Don't be that person!! read more

Basecamp Review- For Restaurant- Drinks Only- As we were coming down from Snowbowl we decided to stop in for a drink. The cuteness of the restaurant was so inviting- the restaurant looks like a log cabin with outdoor lighting streaming from it. The restaurant is nested at the base of the hill up to Snowbowl, and next to the Basecamp hotel. We settled in for a couple of drinks outside- Outside space is sprinkled with some comfy lounge chairs, outdoor firepits, games and more. All with a beautiful view of the sky, mountains and forest. This is a very relaxing place to enjoy the beautiful sky and some drinks. And the staff at the bar were super friendly. The drinks are also very reasonable in price. We got takeout from this restaurant while staying at an Airbnb nearby. The food was just okay. Nothing special, but fine for a quick dinner. My husband got the nachos which were on the small side for being labeled as sharable. My kids' Mac and cheese was standard. Truthfully I can't even remember what I got. This is concerning the dining at base camp where you catch the gondola ride to the top. The service staff was way way to under staffed. So our waitress was way over work, and she had way too many tables to watch over. She was a bit testy with our table, due to her being overworked. The kitchen was way over burden, from ordering to getting our meal was 45 minutes. They said if we wanted it to go, there was a surcharge, but never said how much. The bacon cheese burger was horrible, but great frys. It was very expensive for what it was. BRING YOUR FOOD AND DRINKS. I don't like leaving bad or negative reviews. I truly and deeply wish I could give less stars. My husband made reservations with a wedding party here this last week. Everything about this place was a disappointment. After several calls, we were told check in was at 4pm. When we arrived at 355, we were told our rooms wouldn't be ready for more than 20 mins. After we waited and we're finally able to grab our room, the true disaster started. The website advertises each room, except the suites, have a queen bed. When we entered our room, we found the bed measured less than four and a half feet wide (we measured), making it a full at best. The bed also had at least five inches of space from the top of the bed to the headboard as well. The pillows were squished into nothing more than a 12 in by 12 in square. The room also wreaked of cleaning product. When I went to the front office, they let me know that each room has the same bed, full size or not. The individual from the front desk was then seen leaving the main office with a tape measure and she entered several rooms to find the same conclusion I had, the beds were less than 4 1/2 feet wide. Upon entering the bathroom, we found our shower was not only full of cracked tiles, but even worse - - covered in black mold!! It was down the each side of the shower and across the entire ceiling. When I went to the front desk to make them aware of the situation, there was no other room offered. We asked for a full refund as I AM PREGNANT AND DONT FEEL SAFE there. The front desk person VERY smugly responded with an eye roll and said "I'm sure". we had been there less than 30 mins and were treated with nothing but disrespect. They fully refunded our room, thankfully. Do trust we will never even give a second look to basecamp ever again. It was disgusting and full of nothing but rude people. Do yourself a favor and book an air bnb around instead of dealing with this horrendous and disgusting place. read more

This is a review of both the basecamp lodge and basecamp restaurant. I'll start with the restaurant. The staff was friendly and they can accommodate large groups. Prices are reasonable and they have a good selection of food. Great happy hour! I had low expectations because let's admit, bar food is never really awesome... I have now changed my opinion, ALL the food was FANTASTIC! We started with fried pickles, sliders and pretzels. All three listed were the BEST I've ever had anywhere and I'm a FOODIE! Blew my mind! Then I ordered the steak salad. It was also fantastic. The food was made with good, fresh ingredients. Everyone else at the table loved their food as well. I had the Margarita and it was a bit too sweet but a nice heavy pour. 5 stars for the restaurant. Now on to the lodge... we reserved a 2 queen room. When we walked in the room was clean but they were not regular queen sized beds. They were more like a full size. The pillows were the size of throw pillows. So disappointing and uncomfortable. There was a 1.5 inch gap above the door that could let bugs in. Screen was cut off one window so we couldn't let fresh air in without bugs. Bathroom had no counter space at all and the toilet had no lid so if you put something on the back of the toilet it could fall in. Shower was terrible. Barely any water pressure. Water in tub didn't drain so you're standing in dirty bath water. So much was wrong with this room. It was a 1 star for sure. Gave an over all rating of 3 because the food at the restaurant was amazing. Basically what I'm saying is... Eat here; Don't sleep here! LOL read more

Me and my friend split a room that came with two free lift tickets for a weekend of snowboarding. First impression was that the room was very cozy. We selected the single queen bed room, it had a fireplace. We loved this addition it gave a very warm feeling . The bathroom is a big enough for one person all in all the rooms just for downtime between activities, dinners, boarding but it's definitely a warm, comfortable place to come back to. It is very important to know that there is no early check-in and you cannot get your free included lift tickets until you have checked in at that 4 PM time. The restaurant opened later in the evening, it was great. We ordered a couple happy hour menu items, very quick and convenient to place order online and walk up and grab. And above all the short distance to the mountain, the closest place you can stay rings in to be just so exceptionally convenient. Definitely will stay here again. read more

Lodging: This is lodging on a budget in a convenient location just at the base of the snowbowl along the freeway. Each building is made up of two rooms, each with its own entrance, patio chairs next to the door, an electric stove for heat, and a bathroom. The rooms are simple - a tv, desk, bed, nightstands, and bathroom with towels and soap. Don't expect extras like hairdryers, etc. The stove kept the room warm even in freezing temps outside, though they advise you to keep the bathroom door open at night so the pipes don't freeze. The shower takes a long time to warm up. The units are obviously OLD but with attempts to update. The main room is mostly updated, but the bathrooms still have some beautiful pastel tile.... lol It met the need. We'd stay here again if we needed a budget place to stay. They are dog friendly, which we appreciated. They back trees and a dirt road that was great for walking the dogs on. Restaurant: While others mentioned poor experiences here, we did not have that. All the staff was super friendly. They had TV's on with the game. Local beer on tap. And all our food was good - the burger was a double patty and I was STUFFED. No complaints here! read more

Don't do it! Online this place looks rustic and removed from the hustle and bustle. Up close & in person this place is set next to a busy road, and in need of a refresh 10 years ago. When we arrived we had booked two cabins on one reservation but they only had 1 spray for 1 cabin and the cabins were not next to each other. The cabins share a patio with 2 cabins so instead of our group sharing we had strangers. The cabins are run down, dingy and in the case of my unit moldy. The website says it is queen beds but they were doubles. There are huge gaps in the doors that let in plenty of bugs & cold air. We were dealing with run down cabins and really close strangers but then realized they allow smoking on ever patio. That means our party with asthma couldn't use their patio while their neighbors smoked, they couldn't sit in their room because there are huge gaps in the doors. Tried using the fan to blow the smoke out but the duct tape fan stopped working after 5 minutes and even though it was 8 pm would couldn't find any staff and the message we left about the issues is yet to be returned. There is a "restaurant" on site for lunch/dinner. The onion rings were great but everything else was mediocre and we found long hairs in our food 2 nights in a row. This is the most disgusting place I've ever stayed in, no exaggeration..I've stayed in hostels and hotels in third world countries. I'd take pictures, but my kid is already freaked out...please hold until morning. UPDATE! Where do I start..well, upon arrival we noticed the smell first. Yep, classic dirty sock smell. Walk in, light switch doesnt work. Whatever, I've got a flashlight and dive into the place and find the light in the bathroom. One of the lamps works manually. It works. Dinner in the dark. Let's talk about the poor white cat that lives on the property. This cat straight up stalked us. Scared the living shit out of me more than once. Tried to get in our room several times. The heater was so old I thought it was going to catch fire. It smelled like it. The night we stayed, we called the office to see if the restaurant was still open (it was 9:30). They said yes, they're serving food until 10 (or whatever time it was, this was 6 months ago). We tell them that we are going to head over there for dinner. Five minutes later, after I used the bathroom and put my coat on, we walk up to the restaurant and they are closed! Front desk guy apologized but said they will close early if it is slow. Thanks for telling us it would be open until 10:00...five minutes ago. The inside of the room was the nastiest shithole I have ever slept in. There was SO MUCH DOG HAIR and other unidentifiable stains all over my "clean sheets" on both beds. There is zero chance those sheets were washed. ZERO! I found a dirty sock on the side of my bed. Maybe that's where the smell came from. The walls were falling apart, the whole place was so embarrassing. I'm really disappointed that Snowbowl associates themselves with this place. The read more

Went up for my lady's birthday. She had wanted to hike the San Francisco Peaks again for sometime. We opted for the lodge, knowing that it would be off-season and close to the mountain. What a decision! This turned out to be an awesome idea. We pulled up just before nightfall and began to sign in. Considering it was her birthday, I wanted to order a bottle of wine. The manager was at the desk at the moment. I was able to pull him aside and ask if I could order wine to be deliver it to our room. He said he would not mind doing that at all and would bring it in a half hour. *Score!* It's not a resort, but it is comfortable and lovely. We began moving in. We had two rooms, one with a bed and the other with a day bed. The cabin also had a fridge and furniture. That was a surprise. You never know with these places. But we had a table with two chairs and a nightstand. We also had a television set - but we never turned it on or checked the channels. I appreciated how the lodge was all about conserving energy and water with little notices/reminders here and there about usage. Then we decided to sit out on the front porch for the sunset. Just as we were getting situated, I saw the manager making his way over with his hands behind his back. "Uh oh," my partner said. "I think we're in trouble." He came up to us, then pulled out the bottle and two glasses. That was just amazing. I was in no way expecting this kind of treatment. It was really generous and gracious. The rest of the stay was amazing. The grounds are clean, the staff was helpful and the views were stunning. read more

Sat on the porch/patio/lanai enjoying the weather and the critters. They've got 3 hummingbird feeders, which are quite active (see pics) had this cool Green Hummingbird who was posturing with a Red Hummingbird, very entertaining. Ok....I have lived near snowbowl for going on 7 years (local right down the road). Years ago before new management, food was 4 out of 5 with good service and people who remembered you. Now, garbage. My wife literally said "I think this is the worst salad (taco salad)I have ever had. It's a $13 salad woth 20 beans and overcooked chicken. There was so little food, I could count the beans". I have always enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich that came with a good serving of good pulled pork. Tonight, mine had a whole 6 tiny peices of over cooked pork that was chunky and fatty, not the good pulled pork it used to be so sad that this place sucks so bad for food. Ok beer selection, terrible whiskey selection and can't keep a staff for some reason. Considering the new owner is a multi multi millionaire he should expect better. The rooms look remodeled a little, bout time since the 70's. YES fantastic upgrades to the ski Area itself with new lifts, but come on!!!! Treat the people who pay to stay there or locals who eat there a little better. I think we are done with that place till I hear better. So sad. They're super accommodating when I wasn't sure about one of their drinks and with my food allergies (celiac). We stop here almost every time we're up in Flag. Love it! read more

My wife and I stayed here. She thought it was amazing. I would have to say it was OK. We checked in and the guy behind the counter was cool. I had flowers delivered ahead of time and they put them in the room for us. The room was cute and quaint. The bed in my opinion was a little firm but was comfortable. The location is perfect for snowbowl and excellent if central location for walks and quick drives into the country. we had breakfast at the buffet on Sunday morning and it was average or as to be expected. Eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, cereal, and so on. we just walked in and the guy is "hey good morning, grab a plate and dig in" I plan on staying here again if I have the opportunity. My wife found it romantic and cozy. the facility is maybe 30 years old or so and the bathrooms could use to be upgraded but nothing too extravagant. read more

Super disappointed in the accommodations. While very convenient for our ski trip, we drove straight home the next day to shower and wash every piece of clothing we brought north with us. There were 'hairs' left in the tub and dirt seemed to show itself in every inch of our room. The complimentary breakfast was cold in the morning. Robert, one of the front desk guys, was not very welcoming and rude. The only reason this is getting 2 stars is for the service. Our waitresses we're AMAZING! And Rusty, he was very helpful and nice to talk to. If you do stop by for a drink, I recommend the warm sippers...delicious! read more

Great location, cute fireplace. Just an hour or so away from the Grand Canyon and 10 minutes to shops & restaurants in Flagstaff. The cabins are cute little duets with their own porches for sitting and enjoying the surrounding pines. The decor could definitely use an update, and the bathroom fixtures are ancient. But the water pressure was great, and everything was clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Couldn't ask for more at this price point. The offerings at continental breakfast were stale. However, I would recommend the restaurant for dinner. Try the fish and chips! read more

Cabins in flagstaff We stayed here in July. One of our daughters had stayed here a few time and raved. We weren't sure what to expect. We were totally blown away! To be honest my expectations weren't that high. We got in on a Thursday late afternoon and stayed till Sunday. I figured we would eat there on Thursday just out of convenience and eat somewhere else during the rest of our stay. We wound up eating there every night. The food was amazing.! Saturday night we sat outside and enjoyed the entertainment by Mr Jimmy. It was fantastic. I can't say enough about this place. The cabins were clean, nothing too fancy. The people that worked there were phenomenal! Every single person we encountered was polite, helpful, fun and went out of their way. We normally spend our anniversary in Sedona. This year we've changed our plans and are staying here! We can't wait! We're bringing our middle daughter and her fiancé plus our youngest daughter and her best friend. It took me way to long to write this. We are super excited to spend more time at the cabins. We tell everyone that this is a rare gem in flagstaff! See you veterans weekend in November. read more

Stayed here for a birthday snowboarding weekend back in March. Room was clean, and the staff was nice, and even recommended Pay n Take beer store which turned out to be a great recommendation. They also have a restaurant on the property that is a local favorite and once you have the mac and cheese there you will know why it's always busy. I very rarely post any negative reviews. But I think this needs to be said. I have been staying at this motel every week for more than a month now. I know most of them by name and they do me as well. Ever since the manager Andrew left recently things have really gone downhill and they don't know how to treat loyal customers. I grew up in the hotel business and have been around it over 50 years. The most important thing is taking care of the customer and building loyalty because that'll keep your income stream flowing even during bad times. I was absolutely stunned by the rudeness of the staff this past weekend to be specific the staff that does the check-in's. The restaurant staff and the staff that clean the rooms are very nice. I called the front desk on Friday prior to my arrival seven times in four hours. Is very rare that they ever answer the phone at this place. I don't understand that but have grown to accept it. But I left messages and no one had returned my messages either so I just continued to call back until someone finally answered about four hours later and seven phone calls later.On the seventh time someone finally answered the phone. I will not get into the details of the rudeness of this person on the phone but I will say that I specifically asked for a late check out on Sunday and they said oh yeah and that was OK. They probably don't remember saying it because they were in such a hurry to get off the phone. Most unfortunately I did not ask the person their name although their voice did not seem familiar to me. I have a medical condition that all of the hotel staff are aware of because I travel with a service dog. My health is greatly jeopardize when my stress level is raised. I am not a rich person and I spend money to come to this place to relax. Instead I was awakened by knocking on my door Early on Saturday morning from a sound dead sleep after having a very difficult week with my illness. I told this to the person and just because I felt like there might be something else coming... I made two homemade signs in addition to the do not disturb sign on the door to not wake me up Again the next morning. Instead I am again awakened and told that I need to leave the room even though I had a little late check out. I was told repeatedly by A staff member that she talked to everybody and no one said I could have a late check out and that is just not true! Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the person I spoke to Friday night that authorized it. Instead of apologizing that there was some miscommunication on their end which obviously there was I was scolded and repeatedly threatened with being charged more money which greatly increased my stress and literally made me feel sicker. Especially since the amount they were going to charge me I would not have been able to pay for my medication this week that I am almost out of completely. I have been coming up there every weekend for over a month and I am treated like I don't matter at all. Especially since I was told that I had a late check out by the person on the phone Friday night.The hospitality business is all about customer service. Poor customer service especially to loyal customers is a great way to lose business. If you read through more of the reviews you will see some of the same types of comments. I thought the food and service in the restaurant was good. Tristan and Morgan are especially kind to me. Hopefully they will get a new manager soon that understands how to run a hotel successfully by treating customers like they matter. read more

The lodge looked very rustic and cute online. So we booked a room for a day so we could take the kids to play in the snow. We were so excited to be in Flagstaff. Then we got to the room. I'm not sure if they were in a hurry to clean the room or if they didn't bother to clean it but the room was a mess. Not just messy but it was filthy. The walls were very thin so we could hear the neighbor next door coughing up his lungs . The only nice thing about this place is the proximity to the mountain. But that's it. CABIN 8 The Good: 1: Location 2: comfortable bed 3: great pillows 4: great breakfast 5: clean The bad: 1: electrical: the plugs were loose and some inoperable. 2: second bedroom had no heat 3: primary bedroom had to be overheated to heat second bedroom 4: the TV's are sad. They are flat screen LCD but the resolution is terrible. 5. The real wood panelling is quaint The Ugly: 1: the water pressure: Imagine drilling 4 holes in a bucket; filling it with water and hanging it above your head. That would be an improvement. 1.5: The size of the shower. Have you ever seen the shower in an RV or on a cruise. Those would be considered roomy compared to this. 2: The seal on the door. When you shut the door you can see light on the edges of the door 3: The price: for $380 for two nights all of the above should not be issues. If we would have planned better we could have used AirBNB and gotten a real nice cabin. lesson learned. We had a nice time here regardless of the above. The owners just need to reinvest some money to start sprucing this place up. We probably wont be back because for the money there other better options. read more

We have been staying here practically every year for the NAU Athletics Wine & Dine in the Pines fundraising event (which is a terrific event itself). We always come in on a Friday and hang out the entire weekend along with several friends. We'll set up a table outside and fire up our portable gas grill. Very often other guests join in and we end up having a great party weekend. Across the road are a number of hiking/biking trails which make such activities very convenient. The cabins themselves are clean and fairly comfy, albeit well worn. We enjoy them so much because of the location and ability to take your BBQ and hangout time outside under the pines. The staff are very helpful and friendly too. Don't come here expecting a posh experience, more along the rustic getaway mode. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. read more

This lodge is the "official" hotel of Arizona Snowbowl. While I will give it high marks for it's exceptional value, it left some basics to be desired. If you just want to ski, you can't beat it. For $50 more than the room rate, you get TWO lift tickets per day. It is also the closest to the mountain, which is nice when you want to sleep in a bit, or are wiped out after a day on the mountain. The staff is great, if somewhat overworked. There is a small restaurant and bar. They serve HUGE mugs of draft and don't mind if you take them back to your room (I did this every night). The room rate includes a buffet breakfast in the morning. It's not going to win any culinary awards, but it does the job. On the downside, the beds feel like they were poured from Portland Cement. The pillows are sad...just sad. And, the showers are just a bit on the scary side. With an upgrade, this place would be very quaint. But, overall, the cleanliness was a bit on the sketchy side. The last thing to remember is that you are outside of Flagstaff. We ended up driving to town every night for dinner / bar hopping. So, it begs the question of "Why didn't we just stay in downtown Flagstaff?" Something to consider. read more

Five stars because we knew exactly what we were getting and needed. An inexpensive place for a family of 6 right at the base of the mountain. Cannot beat the value, our half-off lift tickets mean the rooms in our case were about 40 bucks a night. Many of the reviews here about the rooms: yes in need of an update, facelift, new carpet, etc, but this isn't the Sheraton at 200 a night. The restaurant was surprisingly good - 4.5 stars, excellent service, quaint, cozy, intimate and fun. Great pizza, fish fry, wings and cold beer. Staff was excellent. Breakfast Fri continental just fine, but Sat full breakfast eggs, bacon, potatoes included with price of room again the best value you are going to find especially if you have a bunch of kids to feed. So if you want to stay at the base of Snow Bowl and do not have a pile of cash - this is the place. read more
