We stumbled into The Boiled Owl one day while looking for parking for a different establishment. I guess it was meant to be as we wound up staying for a couple hours. True to the neighborhood, this bar has just a nice chill vibe going. Kind of an anyone's welcome as long as you do you feel. They have a variety of seating options, so whether you're just lounging with a group or want to sit at the bar, there's a spot for you. As far as drink selection goes, they have a nice selection of beers and others on tap as well as a nice cocktail menu and bottle/can selection. Service was great and pricing appropriate, to round it all off. Will definitely be back. read more

My favorite bar in Fort Worth! Love sitting on the patio when the weather is nice. Expect people to be smoking, it's a bar lol. The inside is a little loud and there's not a ton of seating, it can get pretty crowded and there have been times I've come in and walked right back out due to that. Not a huge deal to me, as there's plenty of places to walk to nearby so it's not like a wasted trip out. Don't usually have an issue finding parking, which is greatly appreciated. Never had an issue with staff, not overly friendly or chatty in my experience but they provide good service. Nice people overall. Good selection of drinks, I stick with the PBR on draft to save some money. Don't usually break the bank there, which I really appreciate as well. A nice, clean, gay-friendly dive bar on a trendy street with nearby parking. Very kitschy decor and helpful bartenders who take care of you with appropriately priced drinks. It's a really inviting atmosphere for the non-traditional Fort Worth crowd, which is exactly what some of us need and look for in this area! To start off, I've been coming here for yearsss with my friends since I worked down the street I have NEVER felt unwelcome until today it was extremely disappointing I usually come after work I've brought multiple people here and said it's my favorite bar as well & many memories but will NOTTT be back. Today one of the bartenders who we've been seeing more recently maybe the last year he's taller and lankier with brown hair to his sloulders decided it was a perfect day to call us out on HOW MUCH WE TIPPED last time we came in front of the entire bar when I asked him to please keep the beer in the can instead of pouring it in a glass cup because I have a thing with glass cups. Which regardless of the tip statement being absolutely FALSE I ALWAYS TIP sometimes more than what I should if I can afford it when I get 2 beers every time so even more disappointing, it was extremely unprofessional it was rude and embarrassing and it dragged very overly served drunk people at the bar into it and it was messy and gross and EVERY SINGLE WORKER DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING besides watch I was surprised today. We had just walked in it was possibly 1:30am he called the person at the door to have us escorted out after it blew up into an argument. Overall extremely disappointing never in my life has that happened and we know so many of the workers as well it's just sad and gross treat people better. read more

We were out with friends on a rather empty Magnolia one night at the very start of the COVID scare. We were going from bar to bar and stopped here. There were a lot of people smoking on the patio, but not many inside. As we went in, we were stopped and asked for ID. The youngest person in our group was 47, and the oldest 58. We thought he was kidding. Nope. I don't carry a purse when I'm out like this, so I didn't have an ID except for an expired DL my husband carries for me. We presented that, and were told he wouldn't let me in because it was expired. Seriously?? What an ass. DOB was plainly the same and I wasn't driving, so.... All I can say is, if you're over 30, don't even think about going here. Definitely age discrimination and will definitely NEVER go back. Way too many better places to visit. read more

Funny, how they talk about bullies and not putting up with them. First time in and the bartender wasn't having a good night and customers felt entitled to their opinions that included "assault". I came in trying to have a good time for a friend's birthday and saw they had Jamo Cold Brew. Bartender couldn't suggest a drink with the lesser-carried Jameson, other than "people like it", then mistakenly pours two drinks and snatches/spills one across the bar when told it wasn't needed. He chilled out later. Later, LGBT patron slaps gentleman across the back after having the shirt bought off his back and say what HE is doing is illegal. Dude came out of nowhere to express his thoughts with unnecessary actions. Just keep your hands off of other people. Just my experience. No one came in with ill-intentions and it wasn't the best of experiences. Will give it another shot. Not anytime soon. read more

We also collect their fun, unique t-shirts. Bartenders are fast and friendly. Door staff has always been friendly and fun. My biggest regret is coming here. We were having such a good night with our friends until we came here. As soon as you walk in, the smell of cigarette smoke slaps you in the face. We almost left because of that and really should have. Instead we went to the bar and the bartender looked like we were inconveniencing him. When I asked for a Bailey's he gave me a weird look - super rude- and then gave me what looked like someone's leftover drink and had the nerve to charge me $6 for it. When my husband asked him about it (not in a rude way at all, simply asked why it looks so empty - I mean, it was literally just ice), the bartender got all defensive and started raising his voice at my husband saying that it was "almost a double" that he gave me (which is funny because it was gone in 3 sips). Because of his attitude and because of the fact that I paid for a "drink" that was ALL ICE, we didn't leave him a tip. Needless to say, he felt entitled so he GAVE HIMSELF A TIP, pretty much STEALING MONEY from me. But whatever, it is $4 and he obviously needs it more than I do. So here's your charity money but I hope people read this and steer clear because nothing good will come if you walk in to this place. I stopped in here last night at my sister's request. We were out celebrating for her recent accomplishment and this was where she wanted to go. When I walked in I immediately thought to myself ... now this looks like a comfortable, dive bar that the locals can hang in. It was just that. The bar was a bit smokey I thought because Fort Worth still allows smoking in doors, but it was tolerable for someone that doesn't smoke. The bar was pretty packed as it was Saturday night. The group I was with snagged a booth and one of the stand up tables. We were able to hang out, have some great conversation and listen to some good music. Everyone was friendly. We didn't order any mixed drinks but did have some beers and the bartenders were great to us. I would definitely come back here the next time I am in town! read more

I have been laying in wait for this place to open, hoping to make myself a regular. While I love the Usual and frequent the Chatroom, I was hoping for something on Magnolia in between the luxurious cocktails or smokey dive offered by the other bars on the street. For the most part, I found the Boiled Owl to be the perfect median. I really dig the decor; the art on the walls, the different seating options, the counter space for drinks while playing pool. I also dig the local beer selection, the games, and enjoyed the staff. I thought it was love at first site -- exactly the scene I was looking for...BUT then it got SO SMOKEY! Yeah yeah, there is no smoking ban, and people like to smoke inside, but seriously, I can't hang out or enjoy a beer when I can't breathe. You have a patio -- why not limit the smoking to outside? This bar brings everything that is missing to Magnolia except more smoke. I hope they will reconsider their policy. read more

Small, no frills and I LOVE IT!! Truth be told, the selling point of this bar is the punk vibe that took me right back to my late teens! Loved the bar staff, loved the tunes, I was back in a comfortable place in my memory, roaming the Houston alternative scene. Ramones, Buzzcocks, The Hew York Dolls and The Sex Pistols.... We usually hit this place right after work, and it's only got a few other people in it. That's excellent because we basically get Royce (the coolest bartender on Magnolia) to ourselves while we act like idiots for a few hours. I love their beer selection, and they've got cheap stuff and nice stuff, good mixed drinks, and are pretty nice about special requests or weird drink orders. I've also been here on crowded Saturdays, and though it's smoky (this is the biggest point of contention among yelpers about the Owl, I see), the service is pretty good for a busy spot, and the people are usually pretty cool. The first time I went, a person convinced me to give it a try by saying "it's not a college bar," and they were right. Check it out. Last time we were there, we watched Fast TImes and The Blues Brothers. So, yes. This is the spot. read more

Decently run establishment for the most part, however, it absolutely does not fit the Fort Worth "style". Certainly a bit of an odd place.

First time to go and overall it was the basic hipster version of a dive bar. Kitchy decor, like a dog's face on the head of Napoleon. Great drinks. My Cherry Vodka sours were spot on and two did the trick. I liked the Trivial Pursuit at the tables, it made for a fun time when conversation might have lagged. The only reason I gave it 3 stars versus 4 is because of the smoke. Its a smaller place and so any little bit was trapped in the entire bar. Restrooms were clean and service was dandy! read more

Some nights I sit at home all alone drinking beer or whiskey and quickly realize I could be doing this same thing in the comfort of a dark bar with amazing bartenders and great movies on the TV. So I put on pants - walk down the street a few block and smile as I enter Boiled Owl and I'm hit with a strong waft of cigarette smoke and bad decisions. I feel like I am still at home...only there are friendly people around me.....and I am wearing pants. I'm always surprised to see what's playing on the TV's...it could be Troll 2 or Hot Rod or Rambo or Anne of Green Gables...well I've never actually seen them play Anne of Green Gables.....but I wouldn't mind it if they did. If you want to get away from the spray tans and dude bros and want to be treated like family while enjoying affordable drinks....then you should definitely check out Boiled Owl Tavern. Incredible beer selection, the friendliest bar staff and an atmosphere that feels like home. I highly recommend the leather chairs in the front corner, they're comfy and there is a brontosaurus lamp to keep you company if you're alone. read more

One of my favorite spots in this whole city. I may not be a "well paid person" but I've always gotten great service and found the bartenders very friendly and professional. Beyond that the jukebox is fantastic, the beer selection is great, and they don't short pour when it comes to mixed drinks. If you're a local you're going to see some friendly faces and if it's your first time there's no problem making a new friend or two. That owl wasn't boiled, he was smogged out: if you're looking for all the thick plume you'll find in the under-ventilated Basement Bar right on Magnolia Avenue, look no further than the Boiled Owl Tavern, where the smoke's coming from every direction and as such, I'll probably have to burn everything I wore in there last night. Lest that come off a little harsh, definitely worth sharing some of the positive points about my stop here: though I didn't stay long enough (just a couple of rounds) to fully explore the jukebox, what I did see there looked like it had chops. The beer selection, while not mind-blowing, had some highlights, and the staff was nice enough. And they were packed, so clearly there's an audience in the area that doesn't mind the heavy smoke in favor of the company of one another. So it's entirely possible that maybe I'm just not the target audience of the Boiled Owl Tavern. I'm not beyond trying them again, just not in anything that I ever care about smelling like an exhaust pipe for several days hence. read more

One of my favorite bars in Fort Worth. Right up my alley as far as the crowd that hangs there. Cody and Matt are great bartenders and all around good guys. They have a little area for a pool table, they play great music and was playing a movie on the big screen on our visit. Pretty chill little spot down on Magnolia... Stopped in and was ID'ed by a friendly doorman who was overly welcoming and clearly proud/happy to have us in. Behind him was a pool table, surrounded with a large group of players, and to the left, the most important part... the bar. Solid selection of beers on draft here including a style for every palate. I was happy to order up a Magic Hat #9, and after having our beers poured, tried to find relief from the only major downside which was the haze of smoke hanging over the whole place by retreating to the fresh air of the patio scene out front. Well... apparently there were many others that were enjoying the night air as well as the relief, and there wasn't a seat to be found. We found a cocktail table near the door to sit at and try to have the opening and closing door help fan the air a little. We had fun with the trivia cards found on the table, but after the first round, we chose to tab out and head somewhere else for a more comfortable airspace. The tab was respectable in price and the place was filling up quickly as we exited. Not quite sure what to make of it. Its a cool little spot in a great neighborhood, but i know too many other places around town that are comparable and more friendly to my lungs, so I would have trouble believing that it will become a regular venture for me. read more

We went there last night and had drinks and listened to music. It was too expensive and too stuffy. The bouncer asked me to stop screaming at the band. He said I was getting on their nerves. I've screamed at hundreds of bands and I always assumed they like it. I like it when the audience screams at MY band. This place wants you to conform to their ideals. If you don't want to be told how to behave on the smallest, pettiest level, then don't bother with this stuck up ass seat of a hole in the wall. Went here this past weekend for the first time because I heard it was new. I love the area its in, right off magnolia. The drink prices aren't bad and they have trivia and pool tables available. Its already pretty smokey in there which is unfortunate. Pretty much everything you have on you will smell like smoke, but its a pretty fun atmosphere and the staff is really nice! The inside is really clean which I hope stays that way. The only thing I can complain about is the name! Boild owl, wtf is that? Anyways, I will return! read more
