My 2-month old brand new BMW was recently rear-ended due to someone's carelessness. In order for me to move on past my rage, I wanted my car repaired as soon as possible. Rather than going with auto body shops my insurance company worked with, I went to one HIGHLY recommended by BMW of Honolulu. That's how I found Basic Auto. Basic Auto is one of only 2 Auto Collision Shops certified by BMW. Because I have a strong relationship with many employees of BMW of Honolulu, I trusted their recommendation explicitly. I also learned that in order to be Certified by BMW, certain criteria's had to be met. For example, technicians are required to have more than 150hrs of training and continuing education. BMW tools, equipment, and paint system must be utilized. AND, only OEM replacement parts can be used. Due to BMW's technology throughout the entire car, it's imperative that the auto collision team is well-versed in all phases of repair. Basic Auto did not disappoint! Throughout the entire process, Basic's service was absolutely PHENOMENAL!!! From my first phone interaction with Christine (owner), then meeting Teddy (owner) and Christopher (amazing office staff), everything was wonderful. They were all helpful, sympathetic, and worked expeditiously to get my car repaired. Equally impressive was their communication. Christopher's communication is unmatchable! The icing on the cake came when I went to pick up my car. I was completely blown away by how they made every trace of my accident disappear. She never let me talk, kept interrupting me, and tried to challenge every word I said. She was the rudest and most disrespectful person I have ever dealt with. Warning: This will be a long one... My car was involved in an accident. It was parked at the time and the damage to my vehicle made it impossible to drive. My insurance company recommended this shop so we went with it because the shops we tried reaching out to we're all too busy... First sign that we made a mistake by sending our car to this shop was when Christine called me to report what damages they were going to fix. They missed a couple things like the alignment of our truck being off and my drivers side mirror being dislocated from the car. When I told her over the phone about our mirror, she told me that the car worked fine when they turned it on so it must've not been damaged. My boyfriend had to go down to the shop to show her exactly what we meant before she could ask our insurance agent about it. Thankfully, they were able to replace it. Second sign was when we received our car after the repairs were done. Our trucks alignment was still off but it worked so we didn't make a big deal out of it. After driving my car home, I noticed a thumping sound when turning my car to the right. So we took it back to Basic Auto and let them figure out what was wrong. They sent it to a third party to check alignment and suspension and it passed. So Christine called my agent and told her that the damage to the steering was not caused by the accident. After telling her that we never had this issue with our steering before the accident, the only excuse she had for us was that she couldn't determine it was from the accident because she couldn't drive the car before doing the repairs, so she couldn't tell if it was or was not already damaged... which is BS because we couldn't drive the car either, all we knew was that our steering was perfectly fine before the accident. I am 8 months pregnant and my 3 years old daughter uses this car daily, so if there was an issue with the steering, I would've fixed it because I felt it was dangerous to drive. Third sign that we made a mistake was when she told our insurance agent some BS lie about finding oil on our carpet under the steering area on the drivers side, making it seem as if we tried tampering with our steering gears by oiling it up (or whatever is over there? Cause we have no idea about the mechanics of the steering gears?) She never mentioned this to my boyfriend and I when we went to pick the car up for a second time. I've take our car to two shops to try and connect this damage to this accident and BOTH shops stated that when damage was done to the suspension and alignment in the way that our car was damaged, that it was common for the steering to also be damaged... BUT because the repairs were already done with the suspension, that they (the other shops) could exactly pinpoint it to the accident. This shop and our insurance company have a very close relationship and I feel like they work to benefit each other rather than the client... Don't make the mistake of sending your car to this shop if your insurance company is recommending them because I feel they'll work together to do the absolute bare minimum for you... They base the repairs solely off of what you tell them. So if there are mechanical issues that you may not be able to find right away, they will not fix it. They do not do a thorough inspection of mechanical damages unless it's really obvious. read more

Just a week after getting my vehicle back from repairing my front bumper, I noticed that the passenger's side isn't screwed on. Apparently, it broke through the screw leaving my vehicle in a condition where it's not driveable in my opinion because it's making a loud sound and hitting my tire. Gonna head back to the shop and see what they'll do about it because it's not my fault that it wasn't applied on correctly. Let's see how this will play out. read more

Coupe of months ago, I got rear ended by this kid who only had a permit, no insurance, and was driving his girlfriends dads car... yes I am still upset about it!! Due to the fact that he had no insurance made things very complicated for me, where I had to go though my insurance to get my car fixed. I wanted to take my car to a shop that was certified by the dealer. After calling my dealer, they gave me the names of 2 shops, and I called both of them to see what process I need to take. HANDS DOWN, Christine from Basic Auto Collision Team was the most informative and helpful when it came to telling me about the process, what I needed to do, step by step how they would handle the matter. My insurance agent was very passive in this matter, so getting a lot of the information Christine was defiantly a great help. My husband took the car and basically kept in contact with Christine, but she called him to inform him on every step from when the parts were ordered and arrived, how the mechanics would fix the necessary parts, estimate time when the car would be done. She was just tedious and informative, very professional. Getting Rear ended and having to fix my car was a terrible experience, but if there is one positive thing I got out of this is, finding a great and reliable shop! Had a little accident in traffic a few weeks ago with my almost brand new beemer and was referred to basic by good friend who works at BMW Honolulu. They are tucked in the corner of Kalihi so it was a bit hard to find but they seemed to own half the street so no worries! Just turn down the street between jack in the box and nissan. Christine is very nice and knows her stuff. She seemed to be good friends with all the insurance people who come to double check the cars, i barely lifted a finger! Yesterday I stopped by Basic Auto on a recommendation from my dealership; called ahead to ensure someone would be there...after an awkward conversation on the phone with a young lady she finally transferred me to the person I asked for .... GET THIS.... She transferred me to HERSELF....that set the foundation for one of the most unprofessional exchanges EVER.. I get to the shop, she comes out look at my auto that needed painting ... pretended to call her boss.... came back with a price 3x's as high as my dealership quoted me .. They use this shop on a regular .... I agree to pay the inflated price; she again pretends to look for the only painter ... Turns to me and say ... Our painter is busy come back...now some may think ... What's wrong with that? My car as two areas with same part, never did she attempt to gain my business any of the following A. Take the other part off and color match B. Complete paperwork C. Taking a pic of the part and sending it to her pretend boss to ensure he is quoting correctly D. I am writing on behalf of a friend who recently had to deal with Christine's attitude. My friends car was brought in and appointed by the insurance company to this place from an accident. Right off the bat Christine gave off a weird vibe like "ugh I have to deal with you?" And seemed like my friend was a burden to their business. Christine then continued with a demeaning tone of voice, lectured my friend about a loaner car issue when the problem was between the rental company and her. My friend left this place with a really bad impression and would highly recommend Basic Auto Collision hiring somebody who is more customer service orientated. Please put Christine under surveillance and supervision to see what I am writing about. And the worse thing is. The damage on my friends car wasn't even touched and returned still dented up. read more

This is a long story, so I will TRY to keep it to the main points... My wife got hit from behind by an inattentive driver recently. Luckily, she didn't get hurt, but the Mini Cooper S wasn't so lucky. My wife called Mini of Honolulu to ask them where they send their cars. They gave her the name of two places, Basic being one of them. My wife call them both. Christine at Basic offered more information about the process than the other shop so she selected Basic. I drove the car in and was greeted outside by Christine. She took a look at the car and told me more about the process of getting the car repaired, the time schedules, the insurance things, etc. She said she would call when the parts came in, which would be by the following Tuesday. On Tuesday, she called and said the parts came in (just as she estimated) and I could bring the car in. She also explained how our insurance company did not approve a new muffler (I had asked about this earlier because the tailpipes were tweaked a little), but explained that when they put the car on the lift, if more damage is found, they will ask the insurance to review it for coverage. She explained and estimated that if approved, more time would be needed since the mufflers were not in stock (she checked). I took the car in, and again, Christine greeted me outside. She again answered more insurance questions I had and explained what was going to happen. She called Enterprise to pick me up. The next day, she called and explained that they did find more damage and that they ordered a new muffler, which the insurance company approved for coverage. This also required the car be in the shop few more days. She told me the car should be ready the following Tuesday. I called Christine on Monday, and she said to pick up the car on Tuesday anytime after 11:00. We went in to pick up the car and everything was perfect. The repair quality was excellent. They also washed the entire car, and vacuumed the interior so you could clearly see if there was anything different about the car. Christine again greeted us at the door and answered more questions about the process, specifically the insurance issues. This was an ordeal because of the fact that the driver of the vehicle that hit our Mini was not the registered owner and the registered owner denied giving him permission to drive his car. Because of this, Geico, their insurance, denied covering the accident. Which is totally frustrating. We had to use our insurance, pay the $500 deductible, plus rental car costs, plus all the inconvenience, not to mention a ding on the CarFax report, and our clean insurance history. All this because an unlicensed driver (he only had a permit) was driving illegally (no licensed driver with him), the registered owner supposedly didn't give his permission (but never reported the car stolen), the registered owner AND Geico using any excuse to skirt their responsibilities. Christine at Basic helped make the process livable. She was extremely nice, and super helpful in explaining everything from beginning to end and everything in between. She is very knowledgeable and experienced in this business. I will not hesitate to take my vehicle to Basic in the future! read more

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! Unfortunately my 2017 Subaru Hatchback was the middle car in a 3 car accident. My insurance company referred me to this auto repair shop and that was a big mistake. I got my car back today (11.16.2017), and they kept my car for soooo long that I don't even recall when I dropped it off. I remember I dropped it off early-August. That means they had my car for over 3 months. The rental got me around for about 3 weeks, but I've had to inconveniently borrow my family member's car just to get around for about 7 weeks. It's just unfathomably crazy to me how long they took to fix my car. They kept on dishing out excuses like "oh its a brand new car so the parts are taking a while to come in", "oh its done but we've got to paint it" , or they would just blatantly tell me "I don't know". What the hell kind of company is this. They would constantly tell me "oh one more week" or "oh just a couple of more days". I call to follow up and nothing. I guess it takes their workers 4 weeks to paint a damn 4 door hatchback. I called them around 2 months after I turned my car in to them to check on the status. They told me oh yeah its taking a while because of the parts. So I asked them, "well did the parts come in?" and he tells me "oh, I'm not sure. I'll have to check.". Really?!? What the hell were you doing for the past two months?!? If you decide to use this repair shop, I'll wish you good luck. I would not recommend this to anybody at all. Just remember.....3+ MONTHS to get my small car back from them. read more

I was referred to Basic Auto by my insurance company after I got into a fender bender with my BMW. The overall experience was OUTSTANDING -- probably the best body shop I have ever dealt with. The owner, Christine, was extremely helpful and really went over and above the call of duty to get a part that was needed to complete my repair. When she found out the part did not ship on time from the mainland, she was able to work out an exchange with a local supplier who did have the part. Instead of waiting 3 days, I picked up my car the very next day!!! Fantastic service! The repair job was A+++. I believe they are the one of the few certified BMW body shops in the state. read more

Basic Auto Collision repainted the hood and roof of my truck several years ago. After about 2 years, the paint started to fade and continued to fade where they painted. I took it back to them to see if they would do something about it. They basically told me that it's not their fault and that I probably used an inadequate wax or something. This was b.s. since the paint that was fading was only at the portions they painted. In addition, the paint under my roof rack did not fade as badly since it provide some shade under the rack. Obviously, it was the work that BAC did, but they refused to honor their work. Since it had been a few years before I took it back to them, I offered to split the cost to repaint. They flat out said "No". I would never use these guys again and would highly advise against them if you are considering using them. If anything goes wrong, they may not stand behind their work. read more

STAY AWAY!!!!!! I needed to get a repair completed and have an insurance claim. Insurance company told me to get an estimate and submit it for payment. The lady that deals with the customers would not give me an estimate due to my insurance company (USAA). They told me to get them to do the estimate and then bring it to them. An older man told em the same thing yesterday and I called USAA to re-verify, however, they told me they could do it. My company gave me all the information for them to send them the estimate and she refused to give me one. Then she told me that she doesn't do business with Insurance companies they are not associated with. Ok that fine I ask I ask for an estimate and told her that I will do the work and them bring in my car for the repairs, she still refused to service my auto repair needs. Maybe not her exact words but very close. I have USAA so I am assuming that she doesn't like the company and how they operate. No reason she could not give me an estimate unless knowing I have USAA she knows I am Military and doesn't want to work with the military community in Honolulu. STAY AWAY FORM THIS ESTABLISHMENT SHADY PEOPLE. Do not listen to BMW of honolulu when they recommend this repair shop. read more
