I have not yet tried the food but I will tell you the desserts are amazing ! Buttery and sugary. The must try is the millionaire bars. They are dark chocolate and caramel. Yum yum. Birchwood does some things exceptionally well. The salmon bagel is outstanding and we also love their breakfast sandwiches on either a croissant or one of their homemade bagels. Any of the flavors of their danishes are a safe bet too, as they're seriously delicious, and we crave them often. We've tried a couple of their lunch options and would probably pass on those next time, along with most of the other pastries, which can be on the dry side, especially the scones. Their coffee is good, though it's pretty basic and doesn't offer many specialty flavor options if that's what you're looking for. We're still mourning two of our all-time favorites that have been discontinued: the homemade donuts every Sunday and the mushroom toast. Birchwood, please bring them back! read more

I have visited this place a couple times in the last two months. The first time was for an almond milk latte with one pump of syrup. While I did greatly appreciate that they use ceramic mugs instead of paper if you choose, I was disappointed in how it almost cost $10 for a nondairy latte. The second time I went I ordered a chai latte and found out they use the mix instead of making it from chai tea. Disappointing from a place that demands premium pricing. I ordered a chai tea instead and the water was so hot I had to order ice. I was with a little kid who also got a chai and disappointed they didn't offer that to him and instead gave me what I consider scalding hot water in a cup with a tea bag. Staff was friendly. I went to Unlikely Story in Plainville and got a chai latte made from real tea with almond milk under $6 last week. So again the prices at this Bakery are premium. I am willing to pay for premium if that is what I am getting and while the first time I got a latte it was tasty but I still am disappointed at the price point. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The second time I went I sat at the bar in front of the espresso machine and was grossed out at how dusty the top of the machine is... because they have their to-stay mugs upside down on top of it. There was a layer of dust and there were dust bunnies hanging off it in my direction. There was a bit of dried splattered milk on it too. Basically, they need to clean that and it was not the type of dust that was just there for a week.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Got a scone that I wasn't sure was either day old or overcooked either way I needed a sip of tea to get it down and I did not finish it because it just wasn't that great. Pretty sure the scone was over $5. While I want so badly to support a small business like theirs I don't think I will be back until I know they clean the machine more frequently. read more

We came around closing time today to pick up some sweets for our ride home. We were hoping to nab some cinnamon buns this bakery is known for, but since we were coming right at closing time, we did not have high hopes the buns were in stock. Alas, the cinnamon buns were sold out, no big surprise there. However, there was still a numerous assortment of delicious looking bakery items to chose from. I would like to compliment the bakery on making so many sweets and having all of them look spot on. That is really hard to do. I was impressed! We bought the apple pie bar and millionaires bar. The apple pie bar should have been warmed but since it was closing time I didn't make a fuss. The millionaires bar so insanely delicious. I wish I had ordered two more to go. As you can see from the picture I took, I couldn't make to eat it :) I ordered a cortado with oat milk as well and it was good. It wasn't the best cortado I have had. The variety of baked goods, breakfast choices and even lunch is endless. The food was so fresh and cooked perfectly. We tried a few things and everything was delicious. Frittata was great, not dry as some can be. The smoked salmon breakfast sandwich was fresh and lite in the best way. The croissants were so delicious. Coffee was brewed to perfection! Breakfast sandwiches made to order until 2:00pmI prefer my sandwiches made to order so I passed and got a spinach and artichoke pocket-OMG, this may be one of my top ten best bites in 2024 so far!! I wanted to turn the car around and grab another one! Unfortunately the funfetti cookie was super dry with no flavor and the scone was one of the worst I have ever had. While visiting Franklin for a few weeks, I happened upon Birchwood Bakery and so enjoyed my spinach quiche that I came back two days later for a second taste- and to try a maple spice scone- YUM! My intent was to bring back half to share with my husband but couldn't quite make that happen. (He did get some...). Back again today for their ONLY ON SUNDAY cinnamon donut- that I learned about from another customer! I did not share this all. Fabulous. So good, I have to do cardio twice before eating one again. Lovely staff and environment. Everyone there, including customers, seemed at peace just being there. And, yes, I was recognized as a return customer on my second visit. We stopped by on the second day they were open and were impressed by the space, service, and food. The dining area is perfect for gathering--it's a very warm and inviting place to sit. The team of two working were super friendly and happy to take our orders. They were all out of croissants by the time I got there, but I did manage to score the last cheddar & chive biscuit! I got the breakfast sandwich and added avocado to it. You can choose to get a fried egg or a soufflé egg (like a scrambled egg). The sandwich was piping hot and packed with flavor. We also got the Turkey panini which has turkey, cheddar, bacon, and chipotle aioli. It was pressed hot to perfection! Nitro coffee was on point too.
