Usually I have the luxury of just having to review the food but this time was under different circumstances. I put in the online order around 4:15pm and had an agenda - drop off my kid at softball practice at 5, pick up the food at 5:15, go and feed my 90 yr old bed-ridden father with whatever time I have left before I have to go do some OT at 6:30. I picked the wrong Basil location so that was my fault but I caught it in time and arrived right at 5:15. I walked in and two to-go orders were ready for pickup. None of which were mine. Two teenage boys were cleaning and no patrons were there. The interior looks pretty cool. Nicer than the Everett location. Regardless, one of the guys asks how I ordered it and I said through the website. He said it should be right up then. He comes out about 5 minutes later and admits their "device wasn't on" so they just now see my order and it'll be another 15 minutes. I sincerely appreciate the honesty and accountability but if you're a brand new location and it's 45 minutes after you open, turning on such a device should absolutely be MISSION CRITICAL and priority number. No offer to rectify anything or comp anything, just an apology. The food quality should have a standard and be good all the time so rating a place for their food should be the status quo but what puts a place above the competition is their service and efficiency. This experience was incredibly disappointing - especially when there's the Everett location to compare it to. The owner:patriarch has greeted me and conversed with me multiple times and it's run very well. As for Lynnwood, obviously I don't know who was in the back but a new location should be supervised by the most experienced of staff for the first few weeks, if not months. read more

Cute interior and friendly staff. The inside is surprisingly nice, the exterior definitely tries its hardest to fool you, but it is very well decorated inside. The food for me left a little to be desired. Got the pork and shrimp spring rolls and they were bland, no green onions or other herbs in them. Had the same issue with my vermicelli bowl. No herbs left the dish wanting. The BBQ pork skewers that came with the bowl were delicious! Our server was also great. read more

I think it's safe to say that this is my new favorite Vietnamese food spot in the north! Came in with zero expectations and left SO impressed. Food & drink: (5/5) We started with a salt and pepper calamari because apps are 20% off during HH. We love Viet style fried food and this was everything we wanted. For entrees, my partner got the pho dac biet, a craving that he easily ate clean. I took a sip of the broth and it reminded me a lot of the pho my mom makes which is always a good sign! I actually don't like pho all too much (compared to other Viet soups) so I got the bun cha gio thit nuong. The vegetables were fresh, the thit nuong was sweet and salty with a nice chew, and the cha gio was crunchy with good filling. In short An experienced pho place opens with triple the menu, full bar, great buildout...and they even book live music sometimes. Great cocktails and the kitchen is killing it. In long We've enjoyed the Everett Basil for years, though they put a TON of cinnamon in their broth and we both prefer more savory, marrow-y soup. This place sounded cool when it opened, and when we finally scoured the menu online, we talked ourselves into going before we read even half of it. So glad we did. This isn't the most-inviting stretch of 99 (which is a road that's rarely inviting, anyway). But as soon as you walk in you feel like you're in a private oasis. The dining room feels open and appealingly lit, but it really will seat tons of people and it's not overly bright. The decor has an upbeat feel without being garish at all. On the bar side, there's a very cool modern backbar with tons of spirits, and big flatscreens around the room are showing the game, probably. There are booths, highboys, and tables. Lots of V-pop (or similar) coming in through the speakers. The service is really friendly, laid-back, and cool. Super nice kids who really know how to talk to people. We went through the specials, regular menu, and cocktails, and definitely over-ordered, without even trying an entrée. Calamari Battered rectangles of squid with a pleasant, mild aioli on the side. Aioli needed Sriracha but was delicious on its own if you dislike hot spice. Tender, flavorful squid. Maybe the batter could be a little lighter. Mussels with lemongrass At least a dozen big gray-shell mussels with hearty bites in each shell. Tons of simmered veg and some fresh herb leaves on top. Big flavors in the green dipping sauce. Wonderful dish. Rare beef with lime sauce This was so cool. It's kind of a combination of the Thai dish Crying Tiger with rare pho beef and lots of fresh veg. The lime sauce kinda makes beef ceviche, figuratively speaking. Absolutely delicious. Hearty portion, too. Deep-fried quail You get about 6 portions, maybe 5 small bites each. Quail are small so they take some nimble teeth to eat. Served pretty well done. I loved this and would get it again every time. Wings We asked if they had a spicy sauce, and they instantly volunteered to kick up the house sauce with more heat. It's an awesome choice. Wings are wings, it's just a question of whether they cook them just right (they do--no grease) and add good flavors (they do that, too). Kinda messy with all the pepper bits and sauce on them, but so worth it. This is why there are napkins on tables. Cocktails We had a pomegranate old-fashioned and a fruity "Twisted Sister" (shoutout for any 80s metal reference, no matter how silly the band was). Neither was overly sweet, which is saying something, given all the fruit involved. Anthony was both our bartender and our server in the bar, and he did an amazing job. We tried to think about what we wanted to try next time, which will be soon. We brought home a whole serving worth of food last night, and it looks like we've already over-ordered for next time, too. lol read more

3.5 stars so I'm rounding to 4. My sister and I went here around 8pm on a Friday night after seeing a movie. I am glad something new came into this shopping plaza next to QFC because it's pretty sad otherwise. The atmosphere is great. I think Vietnamese restaurants are often lacking in comfort and charm, but this did not disappoint there. I got a shrimp vermicelli bowl that I really enjoyed. They are hard to mess up but the shrimp was cooked perfectly, which can be easily messed up imo. My sister got pho and said she liked it but didn't love it. We also shared spring rolls and it was that peanut sauce mix that is a darker brown, not straight peanut sauce which we prefer. The big issue was that my sister ordered a mixed drink (they have a fancy full bar) and the server came over a couple minutes after ordering and said the bartender was gone so she could only get beer. Um... on a Friday night the bartender wasn't there? Ok. And finally, I ordered a to go meal for someone and told them to please have it ready with the check. But they brought it out about 10 minutes after our meals so of course it was ice cold by the time I got it home. Not cool. They are new and you can tell they have some kinks to work out. What a nice hidden gem! Basil Bistro was pretty amazing from start to finish. We were seated quickly, the layout was spacious and decor was a whole vibe. The menu had a lot of variety and provided a lot of details with each individual item listed. The food came out quickly, was hot, and was so yummy! My only complaint is that we weren't checked on after food was delivered and we were over 3/4 of the way done with our meals when someone did stop by to give us more water and ask how everything was. My boyfriend said the meat in his dish was thin and dry. I ordered the seafood pho without the imitation crab and asked for more shrimp. They skimp. Only 3 pieces of shrimp in total and 3 pieces of squid. They added a lot of lettuce in the pho which I've never had in pho before... not impressed with the food necessarily. It's hard finding pho places open past 9-10pm so we were at least happy with the late night hours but I was disappointed with being skimped. The restaurant was cozy and beautiful though. After reading everyone's raving reviews about this new restaurant, I was going in with high expectations, but at the end of the day wasn't really overly impressed... especially because location wise, it's so close to me! We ordered: - crab rangoon - vermicelli bowls x2 We had to remind our waitress we ordered waters before she brought us waters. The crab rangoon was not good, the wonton wrapper wasn't crispy even though it was fried if that makes sense? Maybe its the wrapper they use. I thought the flavor of the vermicelli bowl was good, like the skewer, shrimp and pork patty all tasted good, but portion size here is pretty small compared to going to Good Pho You or Pho Nguyen (our normal go to local spots for Vietnamese), also not much lettuce, and veggies in general in the bowls. Then our waitress never came back. Later I saw she was taking a break, which is fine, but a new serving staff never came back to check back up on us for a while and I had to flag someone down to get our bill. I have to admit this spot was really hard to review. I visited the restaurant a few times and here's what I'm taking away. The first few weeks of them opening was pretty rough, that being said here is my review visiting again after a month or two. My rule would be to order anything that is traditional items you would find in a pho restaurant! (vermicelli bowl,Pho, banh Mi, spring rolls, etc) they do these items rather well and I would give them a four stars for this in addition to them staying open late! However, I cannot recommend anything that is a specialty or another cuisine, I tried some of their Thai food... One star. Regardless, the ambience is definitely lovely, it draws you in, and if they can get their act together on the rest of their dishes and staff becoming a little more customer focused, I would bump my rating. I do observe that someone who appears to be the owner is always there, and is always personable and friendly. For that I will definitely give them props to the overall success of improvement! Ordered online 5 items for pick-up and paid in full online via Apple Pay. Got to restaurant. Had to stand and wait for about 7 minutes for staff to finish cleaning up before they could greet me. When they brought out my order, the server proceeded to charge me again (I spoke up and clarified that I had already paid online). I checked the bag and one of the items was missing. Had to walk back to the restaurant and informed the staff. They then put in a rush order for that missing item and I had to sit and wait again. Super annoying. UPDATE: Got the rush order. Got home and opened up everything and saw that another item was missing. Called the restaurant and they conveniently said their machine/system wasn't working so they couldn't refund me for this missing item. They said I would have to drive back to the restaurant to get this missing item that I had paid in full for. No offer of comps or anything. Just empty apologies. I had to ask to speak to the manager to ask that I be compensated with an entree as well when I went to pick up the missing item. Mind you I live 15-20 min away from the restaurant and this phone convo was around 10:15 pm at night (they close at 11 pm on Thursdays). Terrible service. read more

I came here for my first time with my partners family's and they have been coming here for years and now I know why. We were immediately greeted and seated right away. It was as though we ran into a long lost cousin or family member's. Half a the group ordered Pho which is probably the best pho I have ever had and half had vermicelli bowl. We also go the tarot salad which I loved and the citrus tofu which we still talk about. Overall this place is 5 stars and beyond. I'm hesitant to write this review, because we loved this place so much we want it to stay a secret! Despite being open only two weeks, the staff were well trained, super friendly and attentive. It was clear the owners take pride in the total experience. The decor is so welcoming and friendly. Excellent vibe. Bartender to time to come to our table to talk about wine options. And the food...we went with both a chicken Pho and Beef Pho. Both were excellent though perhaps the chicken pho broth could be a little more flavorful. The star of the show was the mussel appetizer. Very impressed by this place for a Lynnwood pho restaurant. I was a little hesitant that places with ambience may sacrifice food quality, but I am glad we tried this place since a friend was visiting from out of town and this restaurant had a bar area. We tried pho, summer rolls and tofu pad thai (which seems blasphemous to order at a Vietnamese restaurant) but I was pleasantly surprised by everything. The large size of pho (+$2) was well worth it; huge portion in a hot steaming bowl with lots of meat. The broth was dark and rich. The summer rolls were regular/good, can't go wrong with them and I was pleasantly surprised by the pad thai. Perhaps a little more tomatoey tasting/fish sauce tasting than at some thai restaurants, but portion was good and tofu in it was good too and it had all the correct fixings (peanuts, bean sprouts, shaved carrots on top, lime to squeeze). The prices are also similar to other pho places in the area so this is a solid place and I would definitely come back if I am craving a big hot bowl of pho in the future. read more

I've been wanting to try basil bistro ever since I saw the sign a while ago about the grand opening, I was finally able to try it and it's definitely a new go to spot for me. The inside of the restaurant is nice & relaxing but not so dimly lit. The dividers between the booths is a nice touch and the backdrop of the bar is really nice. The pricing is very reasonable and similar to that of another place I've been. The food was so good. I got the sliced beef banh mi and once I took one bite I wasn't able to put it down and devoured the whole sandwich. I did have to ask the staff once about my family friends tea that she ordered which then came out within a few minutes(not a deal breaker). I saw an area which looked like live music would be played which is a nice touch. All around I give it a 4.3/5 and I will definitely be back to try more read more

We (2 couples) tried Basil Bistro for the first time on Mother's Day. What a great experience! Our servers were very friendly and attentive. The menu was extensive. We ordered pad thai, banh mi, pho, and stir fried shrimp pasta. Food was served quickly. And delicious. I'm a fanatic for pad Thai, eaten it hundreds of times across the US. This was without a doubt the best I ever had! Not overly sweet, great texture, large portion, and delicious! Same with the other dishes. I was going to go lower than 2 but I'll give some grace. Had two pick up orders today which totaled to about $90. The price to food ratio was pretty bad. Two small to average sized egg rolls for almost $10. The wings were about $13 for 6 but didn't come with any sauce. The main issue was with the rice plates. I paid $22 for mine which at the time of writing this says it comes with soup on their online menu. There wasn't much protein, the "salad" was pieces of lettuce with no dressing and some shredded carrots and radish but neither plates we ordered came with the soup. When I called to ask why we didn't receive them they said only dine in orders receive them... okay, that's fine but don't put that it comes with it on the ONLINE ordering menu then. On one of the rice plates that we ordered, we added on short ribs which was $7. We didn't get them, so on that same call we mentioned that we didn't receive it. The person said unfortunately they cannot process a refund on it (?) which is insane to me how they don't have any control over the site whether it's theirs or third party. Their only resolution was we can get them on the next order BUT instead of just us giving a code they said we have to put in the notes that we want it and they'll just give it to us. Unfortunately we won't come back. The rice plates were average, the egg rolls were not that good and insanely overpriced, the only plus was that the thai tea was good.
