Decent, I got the pad Thai as it was a safe bet. It was a little different from any pad Thai I've ever had. It was not great but not bad. I took my teenage daughter and two friends to dinner. There were several options for me (I don't eat carbs). I ordered some very tasty rolls with cucumber as the wrapper. One of my daughters friend's had never had Asian food of any kind. She really enjoyed her entree. See pictures for the rolls and entree. Worst take out experience ever! If you are a glutton for punishment and like the following this restaurant is five stars: Not receiving the items you ordered and paid for. Greasy overcooked vegetables. Dealing with irate rude staff. We ordered two entrees and two appetizers. When we went to pick the food up (ten minutes after the stated pickup time) it was not ready, not a big deal. There was a party of five in front of us and the restaurant had missed preparing one of their entrees. We left with the food and when we got back to our hotel the cashier ("David T." was the name on the receipt) called and apologized vehemently that he had not placed one of our appetizers in the bag, it "was right on the counter" that we could come back and pick it up. I informed David that we had just gotten back to our hotel and the last thing we wanted to do was go back out and pick up a missed appetizer. He said "you are right across the street come back and pick it up". I replied no, please refund us for the omitted appetizer. Not relevant, but we were not right across the street, we were over a mile away. David's attitude turned on a dime, he was adamant that they would not refund us for the item that we did not receive...we could come back and pick it up. I stated that I would initiate a chargeback for product not received. David said "do what you need to do" and hung-up the phone. The noodles were good, but the vegetables were way over cooked and extremely greasy. First and last time ordering from Basil Leaf.... Caveat Emptor, you have been warned!!!! read more

I ordered the beef red curry hot online. It said the order would take 30-45 minutes to complete, no problem. I got a text 15 minutes telling me my order was ready. Perfect! Wow! I'm impressed... I stopped here on a rush in between a conference, and they accommodated me and helped me out in order for me to get back to my conference in time. My fiancé and I were very excited to try this place out when looking at the menu. When we got in they took a little while to get to us even though there was only 2 other tables there. We got the cucumber wrap slim shady which was very bland, He loved the shrimp shumai, the edamame had no salt on it, and the way they rolled the vegetable roll was uneven so half of it was just rice. We both got a Thai specialty entree which was the best part of the meal and delicious with a good portion. But when we were finishing up and just talking they were on-top of us to give the check even though we would have stayed there and ordered more, and then they took forever to take the check that they forced on us. Apps then mains then more apps then more mains, etc. Really threw off the flow of the meal. The decor is dated. The restaurant may be clean, but it simply doesn't feel clean as it's in major need of a face lift. Like all too many Asian restaurants, they're trying to serve Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Sushi, etc. All of them are adequate, but none of them particularly excel. Ordered take out, Monica said 30 minutes. An hour later and the order hasn't even been started yet! But they took my wife's money, didn't bother to tell her that as she waited patiently for 30 minutes! Had I not called she would have sat there for another 30 minutes. We're locals and dined in at Thai Basil once a week. Something similar happened before, we let it slide but this was egregious. Instead of offering us a comp meal they refunded our money and we had to go to Nori Thai, which is much better by the way. We went to Thai basil once a week for the convenience but we will take our business (approximately $6,000 a year) to Nori, wish we knew of this place first worth the extra minute drive! When we asked the concierge at our hotel for a Thai recommendation she told us that since Basil Leaf had opened a few months ago she had already eaten there five times. When speaking to our cab driver he said almost exactly the same thing. It seems that Basil Leaf is really blowing people away and it's easy to see why. Our meal at Basil Leaf was the best one we had during our time at St. Pete's Beach. We got two Thai dishes as our main course, Pad Thai and Basil Garlic Beef. Both we're very good but what completely mesmerized us was the sushi roll we ordered. The Weezer roll was out of this world. Literally one of the best sushi rolls that my boyfriend and I have ever had. Tuna, scallions, avocado, and tempura crunchy topped with even more tuna and spicy mayo. What is there not to love!? A lot of their sushi is named after music types, bands or artists which I think is really adorable and cool. The waitstaff was very attentive and the sushi chef even came over to check if we liked our roll. (Obviously we praised him endlessly with full and happy mouths!) I would, by far, recommend this restaurant over any other in St. Pete's Beach (and we went to a few of the local favorites as well as some of the more upscale dining establishments) Basil Leaf is a real gem and I will definitely go back if I'm ever in St. Pete's Beach again. read more

This restaurant is a huge disappointment as they are using canned sauces and veggies. Our experience a week ago was very shameful. I wanted to try a new Thai place and with the outstanding reviews, I thought it would be a new favorite. We threw away most of the food (Basil sauce pork, clear noodles w/chicken, Pad Kee Mao and green curry) which was a $65 order. All garbage except the white steam rice. I have never been so hostile to a restaurant like this before. But justice must be served. Especially when cold. I will do best to give you my experience and help you to make a better choice. While dining out on vacation, my friends and I couldn't resist grabbing some sushi and Thai! The little restaurant was right across from our hotel and everyone was ready for a good meal! I, the real foodie out of the group, decided to splurge on this meal. I am very passionate about Thai and Asian food and it was our last night. Unfortunately, that was a big mistake. The night started on a happy note as our waitress was gingerly taking our orders. I ordered a classic iced Thai tea. That was sadly the only good thing I had. Next, the disappointment started. I had two appetizers: -Shu Mai -Calamari Fries The Shu Mai (small dumplings) were not cooked properly and the sauce that came with it was, I hope, the wrong sauce; because the two went together as well as oil and water. The dough was weak and the interior was cold. Now go to any Asian food lover and he will tell you that dumplings (besides a few special ones) should never be cold. Next up was the calamari fries. Now if it's one thing that I love, it is fried calamari. I love how when you bite down into the crunchy breaded outer layer, the steam from the chewy inside calamari wafts up into your mouth and the hot fresh, sizzling meat makes your mouth begin to water. This was not the case. The 'fries' were not hot but room temperature and the calamari was bland and unseasoned. Worst of all was the dip they had with it. It was sesame dressing that I'm pretty sure they bought from a local superstore in a bottle. For my main course I went classic and had: -Red Curry (Shrimp) By this point I was very underwhelmed. I put down my camera, hopingI wouldn't jinx myself again with bad food. I made a note to complain to my friend next to me, who was trying the sushi (which was actually decent) and told her how underwhelming the appetizers had been. I marched my chopsticks into battle and threw my rice in the curry, and added some requested hot oil (which was hot but not as flavorful). I bent over and picked out one of each item starting with the shrimp. Weak. Then the vegetables, bland. Then loudly sipped the sauce. Just average. And looked up to see that there was no steam rolling up from the plate. I had the curry for 1 minute and it wasn't even hot. The blandness of the ingredients had me asking myself if they just threw the shrimp and veggies in at the last second and microwaved it on high for 30 seconds. It was not a fun night as I finished it and scrapped the last few quarters out of my vacation piggy bank for a meal that was sub par. And that is an overstatement. Footnote: I did notice that the main theme of be place was sushi and trying the different sushi I can say that it was okay. But if your looking for a good variation of Asian cuisine, dine somewhere else. read more

I use to love this place but my husband and I went here tonight and it was awful. Tom Kah Gai soup tasted sweet and was very red? Usually it has a coconut taste and a little spicy, with just a little red color from the chili paste. Our sushi rice was not cooked all the way, so it was crunchy. The fish had a tangy taste, which is never a good thing when eating raw fish. Also we asked for a side of spicy mayo and it was so thick I couldn't get it to pour from the container. When I tasted it, it tasted nothing like normal spicy mayo it tasted like French dressing or thousand island, so gross. Then let's talk about their Covid protocol and cleaning standards. I constantly watched the guy busing tables use the same yellow rag to wipe off the tables after clearing the dishes but he never used any spay cleaner or disinfectant, even though they were on his bus cart. They sat people at every booth, not six feet apart, luckily my husband and I got a table away from the rows of booths. The guy busing tables was also running food, bringing checks and taking orders and his mask only covered his mouth and he wore one glove & never changed it or sanitized his hands. Also the main sushi chef was not wearing a mask. Not only did we leave with sore bellies but also feeling very uneasy about the Covid health risk we experienced. So disappointing, we use to love coming here for years. Do your self a favor, go to Lemongrass downtown St. Pete. They are amazing and very clean. read more

First time here. Great seaweed salads. Generous with fresh ingredients and awesome taste. Sashimi sampler was good not as awesome. My wife had the scallop sushi with spicey mayo. Very good. We had the weeper roll. Very good, but needed more tempura crunch. Lastly the chicken pad Thai which was over the top. Wonderful sauce and generous ingredients. Chicken was tender and tasty. I work down the street from Basil Leaf so we'll order take out from them every now and then. This is a pretty typical Thai restaurant. It's certainly not going to blow you away, but it hits the spot when you have a Thai craving. I've had the pad thai and the curries and both are pretty average. When you take out for lunch they give you an egg roll with your meal. It's a nice little surprise :) And I like how they pack the food in actual plastic containers rather than Styrofoam or tin containers that can get messy and hard to handle. I've only actually eaten inside here once, but it was nice. I'm actually really impressed with the transformation they did to this place (it used to be an Irish pub). They really have given it a lot of character with some classy decor. The service is also pretty average. If you're on the beach and have a serious urge for Thai I'd say give this place a try. (There's also Nori Thai, but I've never been there.) Otherwise, if you can wait another 15 minutes, take a drive downtown and stop at one of the many Thai places there. read more

Expect the unexpected. From the fried calamari, Im not exxagerating but it must be the best calamari I ever had. its sliced small, very light, crispy and served with thai sweet chili sauce. Yum!!! Then my chicken basil meal is just cooked and spiced to the level where I can lick my plate! And Im not done yet!!! the FRIED ICE CREAM, its just heaven!!! So remarkable that the night after, call us freaks and crazy, we went back and ordered same foods plus the fried cheesecake...oh my, this is what you call a vacation!!!! The decor needs a little updating, but will not stop me from remembering and stopping by again if ever I am in the area. I've eaten here a number of times and they have great food, seriously delicious. Their prices typically leave me at around 30 bucks per meal which is not ideal, but like I said it is very tastey. Today I ordered delivery for the first time and was not impressed. Took over an hour to come (living .3 miles away) but was still delicious. Did not come with my miso soup which isn't a big deal because it wasn't on the receipt but still disappointing.
