My new favorite thai restaurant. Generous lunch portions. I ordered yellow curry with chicken. Great flavors. Served with jasmine rice. 10/10 My friend got thai iced tea with no cream. It was delicious. I would get that next time. Excellent service and comfortable seating. Cute decor.

Best Thai restaurant in the world! The Pad Thai is tangy, not sweet. I was born in Thailand & this is the taste that I love, the tamarind tang not sweet. No pad Thai is the same anywhere you go & I have found this place has the most authentic taste, unless you actually go to Thailand & order this. I would say 99% of Thai restaurants don't sit well with me in regards to the pad Thai or any Thai noodle sauce. This is the only place that really soothes my Pad Thai taste buds. Other places I would order curry stir fry noodles since you can't really go wrong with curry noodles anywhere you go. I get the Thai tea no cream. I like the extra extra strong black tea taste. Hint of anise / cardamon. Our server & service is very attentive. The restaurant has a sushi bar. I always get char eel nigiri & salmon sashimi. I don't get sauce on sushi. Just the best sushi here. The best creamy Thai curry in the world is here too!!! Not runny/oily. Just the perfect consistency.

"Basil Leaf" is a Thai, SUSHI & Boba place right in St Pete Beach. They also have a sister restaurant right down the block that we haven't tried, yet. They do Mobile Orders/orders to go! I find this very useful as I don't think their dining room is very comfy. We are going to try the other location when we get back. They have a very interesting menu with the usual Thai foods with a sushi bar inside. This is what we have had so far. SUSHI: The Crab appetizer was superb. The best one we have ever had. We can't wait to order that again :)... The sushi rolls we ordered were ok. The Tempura shrimp was overly sweet with asparagus. Neither one of us liked the Shrimp Tempura roll, temperature, texture, flavors, none of it worked. The salmon skin roll was ok. Dining in it was cold & had too much eel sauce. The salmon skin roll, with NO eel sauce we got to go, was way better. The Amberjack roll was excellent. The most interesting thing on their menu here is the "Small Soups" I love soup. I make it all the time. Make my own bone broths etc,, it's very healthy for you. Moi very first job was makin bone broth in a Vietnamese restaurant. Anyway, moi learned life's most valuable lesson from this experience. Did you know that if you make yourself stinky enough to bugs they won't bite you? You're just stinky to bugs, not to people. Yes, this is true. This is Dr Chef life lesson #1. Eat Tons of Garlic & lemongrass & bugs won't bite you. OuiOui. The "Small Soups" section on the menu here has "TOM YUM GOONG" soup. The traditional way. OuiOui. Not only do they have the "TOM YUM GOONG" soup on the menu they have a mixed seafood version called "King of the sea" We had both. Both are superb. I love lemongrass soup, especially with fresh seafood. The only difference between the two is one has shrimp only & the "King of the sea" has mixed seafood with tiny oysters. It is Sensational. Very very strong lemongrass flavor just the way I like it. YUM! :).. Sir Hubbers & I really enjoyed the small soups. This is the way it's done folks. We had to leave due to the storm but we are on our way back. The first thing I want? "TOM YUM GOONG KING OF THE SEA" Mate! Arrrr! :)' So if you're planning on a day outdoors, near lots of mosquitos, bitting bugs, remember to eat your "Tom Yum Goong" & lots of garlic. Your welcome :)) Recommend. Will Return to update. Namaste.

Second review as I couldn't add to my review from three years ago. Even after two hurricanes this place is amazing. The outside appearance doesn't do it justice. The sushi is always high quality and super fresh and the service has always been attentive. We had the tuna poke bowl which was packed with fresh ingredients and a very nice portion along with the sashimi appetizer. They have a small lot of parking in front and one in back They take credit card and do take out

First time eating Thai food here and it was decent. The environment was nicely decorated and spacious. The foods were just ok, nothing too special. Usually we tried Pad Thai at every Thai's restaurant that we visited just to taste and see the differences. Here it was missing veggies and it looked very simple dish. We also had Thai Fried rice and Pad See-ew noodles. Again, less veggies but made up with lot of proteins so if you're into it, this would be a place.

When the leader of the pack settles for satisfaction, they prioritize integrity. How I'd use that analogy here is that the atmosphere does a decent job of taking you out of the world and surrounding you with friendly faces. The peanut sauce on my entree worked because it wasn't leaning too far into the sugar: it used the built in oils to elevate a veggie paradise to cheer up the customer's mouth. Carrots were thick, but still complemented the mixture nicely enough. Part of having a sensible palate, then, is finding the nuance in flavor. In letting the peanut sauce find its identity without Americanizing it too much, Basil Leaf finds a way to rock the beach.

Absolutely delicious! My mom ordered the yellow curry with noodles (the name now escapes me) and it was AMAZING! Some of the best curry either of us had ever had -- and with noodles instead of rice! We loved it! I ordered the Pad Kee Mao and also loved it! It was a fabulous vegan option with a small amount of heat, perfect noodles and plenty of veggies and tofu! Staff was kind and everything was very clean! Look forward to coming back!

I went to this Thai Restaurant, Basil Leaf twice and ordered the exact same Chirashi plate during hours. On my first visit, I charged was $21 for the take out meal. Two days later, I went to their other location, Nori Thai and ordered the Chirashi plate, the charge was $37 for dinner. Honestly, there was zero difference in term of serving portions. Today, I decided to go back to Basil Leaf and ordered the same Chirashi plate, the same lady from Thai Nori charged me $37. This menu price was $35. I was charged $21 for my first visit at Basil Leaf. The price listed on their menu is $20. Honestly, I didn't want to confront or argued over the $16 difference with the lady who took my orders at Thai Nori or Basil Leaf. I WON'T be going back to both locations. Very dishonest businesses. Maybe they are desperate for $$$

This place was delicious!! Mady our server was absolutely amazing. She was running around with so many tables and literally made sure we were all good no matter what. She was phenomenal! Our sushi rolls were delicious!

Spider Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll

The food at this establishment is amazing and plentiful. The sushi rolls are large and the Pad Thai was enough for 2 people to have for dinner and lunch the following day. The service was friendly and the prices were reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes. Basil Leaf is a must if you're looking for something other than your typical seafood, pizza, or burger fare while in SPB.

Oh my gosh this is my favorite Thai place in St. Petersburg! The Pad Thai is phenomenal and their sushi is top tear! Also service is wonderful, quick, and friendly! Love love love this place.

We have been to Basil Leaf twice and have had a great experience both times. The interior is a little dated but the restaurant feels warm and inviting. We have had top notch service each time we have visited. Our waiter was knowledgeable, kind, and attentive. We started with the Toasted Bagel Roll and it was delicious. I had the Massman Curry with chicken and my partner had the Pad Sel-Ew. Both were very generous servings and were delicious! We were lucky enough to have leftovers to eat later in the day! Overall we love Basil Leaf and hope to be back soon!

Delicious Thai food and very large portions. The waitstaff was very nice and helpful. Our table Ordered: veggie spring rolls, soft shell crab appetizer, thai Ice tea, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Coconut milk Soup, and Ginger sauce salmon. The salmon was the star to me personally, although the menu offered Tilapia I asked if we could get the salmon instead and they obliged. Everything was stellar, my dining companion said the soft shell crab was the best he had. Another person at our table said the Tom Kha soup was the best he's had. We have another whole meal waiting for us due to leftovers. So glad we found this gem open on Christmas

They have a nice sitting area out back overlooking a small retaining pond. On the other side of the pond there is a bar which had pretty good live music we could hear at our table. The interior is also very nice and welcoming but I did enjoy sitting outside. They have an extensive menu with rolls, curry, Thai food, Korean food , tempura sushi and sashimi. We tried 3 of the rolls and they were all amazing especially the heavenly roll. Miami has some really good sushi and I frequent some great places there but frankly this place beats them all.

No need to go into how many I had :) and it was not vodka but it was good! We started with the miso soup and ginger salad. Soup was delicious. The salad had a variety of greens and was a welcomed change from iceberg salads of many a Japanese restaurant . We then moved onto salmon sashimi. It was fresh and delicious. There were three generous pieces to the order. Then we had the hand rolls/tacos. Kelsey got them from "the other side" of the restaurant because they weren't in the lounge menu and I asked about them. They were small but shockingly filling. Loved them. I got the salmon ponzu and my friend got the spicy salmon. We both loved what we got. Then we got the scallop w/caviar. She asked about wanted nigiri versus sashimi and we opted for no rice. It was amazing. I highly recommend. Then we did the district roll and the dragon roll, both were great and different. I forgot to mention I am not a spicy fan and that the spicy could be in the side. Otherwise perfect. We ended with the Peking duck roll. Also delicious! But we were stuffed by this point. Marisol, the chef, was very creative in her presentation. Every dish was a work of art. The salmon lover roll was absolutely delicious as well had a nice fruity flavor along with it. And lastly, we originally came for the hand rolls (which are no longer on the menu) but they made an exception for us and they were phenomenal. Overall, would come back only 4 stars because everything began coming out at the same time and didn't have a pace to it.. cozy fun vibe! PS.. One can have suchi. One can have pad thai. It is really up to you. But sometimes you just want a pure Japanese establishment that offers up food you would find in Japan. That is Yaki-Mono. It is not a big establishment. In fact, in Japan this would be the normal size. It is small and intimate. People need to wait outside to get in for a seat. Such it was when we went here. Priority was the food itself. So getting there a bit early we got a table. Within 30 minutes they were lined outside the door. Sitting down with our menu we could look and see what is available. Being true to Japan it was a mix of styles and meals one might find. From salads and miso soup to sushi, sashimi, and even a bento box. You could have what was posted or make it up as you went along. Very typical. First to order was a Sapporo beer. Traditional in Japan it is still shipped from there. It is not made in the US. The bottle is large and is normally split between two over the course of a meal. This came first and then the order was placed. We started with fried tofu. This is a softly panko topped slice of tofu and that is sightly fried and placed in a dish with soy sauce and spices. it is light and airy. This was also topped with toasted onion flakes. It was a truly Japanese style that is hard to get at times. Ideal. This was then followed with a salad poke bowl filled with fish and vegetables and even an avocado slice or two. It had the dressing that is normal in Japanese cooking which is a good compliment to the salad itself which was fresh and refreshing to have. We then had a bento box. The mix always changes but tonight it consisted of sashimi slices of tuna, salmon, octopus, are a few others. There was a box of rolls and a box of gyoza on yakisoba noodles which were hand fired quickly in their herb sauce. There was even a box of chopped up steak with vegetables cooked fresh and enjoyable. These were good sized meals that could be shared and sampled. It was up to you on this, The price was fair based on the portion you received. It was all fresh. Especially the fish which is served as expected. One things was that the fish was thicker than expected. Normally a sushi chef cuts the fish thin. This was thicker and a bit lumpy in portion. Not what you expect, especially if you have lived in Japan for over 4 years and knew how to eat a good Japanese meal even from a shop on the corner with only 3 seats (and I use to do that). Yaki-mono is a good place to go. The team is nice. The food is fresh. The price is the price to expect today. One thing was, it did make me wish I was back in Tokyo eating at the fish market. Domo.
