Visiting in Florida you find many Japanese restaurants offering both Japanese food with a touch of Thai cooking. It is a combination of tastes and cultures that please all that visit. One can have suchi. One can have pad thai. It is really up to you. But sometimes you just want a pure Japanese establishment that offers up food you would find in Japan. That is Yaki-Mono. It is not a big establishment. In fact, in Japan this would be the normal size. It is small and intimate. People need to wait outside to get in for a seat. Such it was when we went here. Priority was the food itself. So getting there a bit early we got a table. Within 30 minutes they were lined outside the door. Sitting down with our menu we could look and see what is available. Being true to Japan it was a mix of styles and meals one might find. From salads and miso soup to sushi, sashimi, and even a bento box. You could have what was posted or make it up as you went along. Very typical. First to order was a Sapporo beer. Traditional in Japan it is still shipped from there. It is not made in the US. The bottle is large and is normally split between two over the course of a meal. This came first and then the order was placed. We started with fried tofu. This is a softly panko topped slice of tofu and that is sightly fried and placed in a dish with soy sauce and spices. it is light and airy. This was also topped with toasted onion flakes. It was a truly Japanese style that is hard to get at times. Ideal. This was then followed with a salad poke bowl filled with fish and vegetables and even an avocado slice or two. It had the dressing that is normal in Japanese cooking which is a good compliment to the salad itself which was fresh and refreshing to have. We then had a bento box. The mix always changes but tonight it consisted of sashimi slices of tuna, salmon, octopus, are a few others. There was a box of rolls and a box of gyoza on yakisoba noodles which were hand fired quickly in their herb sauce. There was even a box of chopped up steak with vegetables cooked fresh and enjoyable. These were good sized meals that could be shared and sampled. It was up to you on this, The price was fair based on the portion you received. It was all fresh. Especially the fish which is served as expected. One things was that the fish was thicker than expected. Normally a sushi chef cuts the fish thin. This was thicker and a bit lumpy in portion. Not what you expect, especially if you have lived in Japan for over 4 years and knew how to eat a good Japanese meal even from a shop on the corner with only 3 seats (and I use to do that). Yaki-mono is a good place to go. The team is nice. The food is fresh. The price is the price to expect today. One thing was, it did make me wish I was back in Tokyo eating at the fish market. Domo.

This very good Japanese restaurant is close to our St. Pete Beach place a short distance north of the Don Cesar. Wonderful service, so nice & friendly. Delicious miso soup & ginger salad. Exceptional Futomaki. Nigiri sushi also good. Wife's Poke Bowl superior. A work of art. Need to go back & try more menu items. Very very good.

Got the Yaki Niku (spicy filet) and the meat was well seasoned and tender. Their miso soup is delicious. I've ordered this dish a few times now and I'm still not sure about their fried rice. Definitely different than traditional Japanese versions. The vegetables are on the Al dente/ slightly crunchy side but plenty hot. My only complaint would be the tempura ice cream dessert is more tempura and not enough ice cream. Last time it was barely noticeable. Flavor of the dish is good, though. Will keep coming back. My spouse is Japanese and loves their sushi offerings.

Other customers reviews saying the same thing I'm saying about this horrible disrespectful woman server and service that they had.

BEWARE - Don't waste your money. Terrible service and horrible atomosphere. THE WOMAN SERVER THEY HAVE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING AND EXTREMELY NASTY. She's aggressive and unprofessional and provides horrible if any service. A simple waitress who has no ownership of the property has been consistently rude and disgusting to paying customers, look at the previous negative review comments that I've attached to this review. If I could give NEGATIVE STAR or ZERO stars I WOULD!!! I hate to do this review because the owners themselves are actually very lovely people, but have hired horrible incompetent staff that is very rude and sucks at communicating and delivering service. This place seems to be privately owned and only has one waitress who has lost her mind It is actually forcing them to lose money. She needs to be fired and need to hire better staffing. I would not recommend this place based on the experience that I had with their trash sever. In the moment that you come in the restaurant you're not greeted you're treated immediately with hostility and attitude. There's been complaints about the food being overpriced. The same waitress that I am complaining about is the same one who delivers horrible service to customers. She's rude to customers, late with the food, she rushes customers who are spending their money in the restaurant and has a terrible attitude. Beware and stay far away from this establishment and look at the other reviews. I've attached to this post. I am hoping the owner does reach out to me so that we can discuss this negative experience with their server further. She needs to be removed or corrected. It's a shame because she's horrible. Staff ruins the entire experience for the restaurant and the location. Zero out of 10 would not recommend. See the other recently NEGATIVE posted reviews about their rude and unprofessional woman server. If you don't like your job, you should definitely quit and treat people with respect.

I was very pleased with the yellow tail poke bowl here. I haven't had a lot of poke bowls outside my local area, so I hadn't experienced the spectrum of high quality ingredients that can go into these. This one had mango, avocado, chiles, mushrooms, and more. And the sauce/dressing complemented, not covered, the flavors of the ingredients, so you could actually taste the ingredients. I love some yum yum sauce, but it covers the taste of everything. You could probably put yum yum sauce on rotten fish, and it would still taste pretty good. The $27 price was pretty good too for the quality I got.

I am a big sushi lover & was thrilled to see great reviews for this new spot that is owned by Blu Fugu. Now that I have tried their sushi, I cannot agree with the reviews. My sushi arrived frozen & I was told to let it sit in the soy sauce & it would thaw out. The lettuce was wilted. I was so bummed. The service was outstanding and everyone was kind so I wanted the sushi to be good. They had a full bar and wine so it can be a good place for day drinking across from the beach. They had a cute book just for sake. Presentation of the sushi was beautiful & everyone was nice. Unfortunately, I don't like to pay $145 for just okay sushi.

The sushi was fresh and amazing! I would recommend to anyone. They are walking distance to the Sirata resort.

Got the salmon poke and it was delicious! It came with lots of fruit and the sushi rice was very soft. My mom got the shrimp and steak hibachi which was also delicious but the fried rice was a little bland. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely recommend this place!

Their poke bowls were so fresh and flavorful. Probably the best I've had in a long time. Highly recommend their Hawaiian Tuna poke bowl.

Chef Daniel clearly takes a lot of pride in his craft, sourcing fresh fish multiple times throughout the week and putting real thought into every dish. What really stands out is the attention to detail. The rice is perfectly prepared, with each grain having the right texture and balance, which is something a lot of sushi spots overlook. It makes a huge difference. A quick heads up though, this level of quality takes time. If you are in a rush, this might not be your spot. Chef Daniel is focused on doing things right rather than fast, and while he could scale up and bring in more chefs, that is not the experience he is going for. Expect a wait, especially during peak dinner hours. The ambiance is pretty simple and no frills, but that is not why you come here. This place is all about the food, and it absolutely delivers.

Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from beginning to end. My friend and I both ordered the Mangosteen noodles, and they were honestly some of the worst noodles I've ever had. They were overcooked, mushy, and clumped together into one sticky mass. The service was just as disappointing. We waited for long periods without anyone checking on our table. Our dirty plates sat on the table for a very long time, and eventually I gathered them myself and handed them to a staff member because no one came to clear them. Since we were celebrating my friend's birthday, I wanted to order a dessert. Instead of simply taking the order, the server immediately focused on asking whether I was okay with the price, which felt unnecessary and awkward. At the end of the meal, we asked for the birthday guest's meal to be split among the rest of us. Unfortunately, that request was ignored, and the entire amount was added to my bill instead. The next day I called the restaurant to share my concerns. No one followed up with me as promised. On top of that, I noticed two separate charges on my credit card, so I called again and spoke with a manager. The response I received was extremely dismissive. I was simply told there was nothing they could do. I work in the hospitality industry myself, so I understand that mistakes can happen. However, what truly disappointed me was not just the food or the service it was the complete lack of concern for a guest's experience. I have rarely encountered such an indifferent attitude toward customer feedback. I wanted to share my experience so other guests know what to expect.
