My friends ended up also ordering buffalo chicken wings and chicken Caesar salad and didn't finish. Great location, on the corner of 13th and Harrison. Well lit and nicely decorated interior, and I appreciate that they have a nice flat screen tv hanging in the corner too. There is a display case with pizza by the slice, a beverage cooler and dessert case. The staff was friendly and we both got slices. Portions were generous, but a little on the pricey side. I liked the thinness of the crust.The slice was hot when served, but I think it would have been better if it was a little more crispy. read more

Basil Pizzeria is a pretty decent thin crust pizza spot in downtown Oakland. I have both eaten at the restaurant and had delivery. When it comes to the pizza, I find it a little dry. It is a thin crust, with a rather large crust section. The tomato paste and cheese, while present, are not in abundance. Now in my experience, just because a pizza is thin crust, does not necessitate the sauce and cheese to be skimpy, which is how I felt. I enjoyed dining in as it was well lit, and had a friendly pizza slingin' staff. The night I had delivery, I had the small Margarita pizza which was around $18. I thought this was an ok price, maybe a little pricey for what I got. What annoyed me though, was the $2 delivery fee. Does that money go to the driver? Do I need to tip at that point? I'm not sure. I suppose had I looked that websites fine print, I would have found the fee, but I didn't and well... it surprised me. All in all, I cant say this is a value, as I like more cheese and sauce, and detest hidden fees which sadly seem to be the norm in downtown Oakland. A good option when dinning out is not an option, and dinner isn't ready. read more

in all fairness, i didn't order the pizza. maybe that's what knocks it outta the park. i also ordered delivery - maybe everything's fresher in-house. i ordered garlic knots, mozzarella sticks, a chicken caesar salad, and cannolis. the knots were a bit burnt, enough to taste burnt. the sticks weren't that hot. the cannolis didn't do it for me. i have yet to eat the salad. if that changes anything, i'll update this review. what i did eat wasn't worth the money imho. my bill came to $36, including tip. oh, and yelp listed the minimum order as $15 and delivery charge as $3.50, but when i went to order, it said the minimum order was $20 and the delivery fee was $5 - not cool. delivery time was incredible though, and the driver was nice. read more

I tried to review 2x with the Eat24 and Yelp app but they both refused lol. They promised delivery in 45-60 mins, yet the order got here in 30 minutes piping hot. The driver was not a dope like every other pizza delivery.. he was exactly where we told him to be (leasing office) as we live in a large, gated apartment complex but with HUGE signs leading to this one common point that usually escapes every other delivery person.. He was friendly and nice. This is truly 1/413 for our time here. The pizza was of equal quality- thin crust, fresh cheese and wonderful toppings. This is definitely a NY style thin-crust pizza with the toppings deeply sunk within the melting cheese. The crust, sauce and cheese are amazing. We ordered both the ravioli and garlic knot sides too and they gifted us ample marinara and ranch sauces. Both sides were also amazing. I think they are aptly named as Basil Pizzeria... but it only tells a fraction of the story. If you crave a nice, thin-crust pizza with fresh basil, fresh garlic, fresh cheese and fresh oregano- this is the place. Price is a bit high but worth it for the fresh, tasty ingredients. I've ordered twice now. I have no illusions about delivery in Oakland. I know it's a big city with a lot of one way streets and a lot of people ordering delivery at any given time. My pizza was about 30 minutes late and I had to give the driver directions, but when the pizza got here it was so good I didn't even care. A manager at the store even called me and was extremely apologetic and offered to refund half my money. I told him he can just mail me some coupons because the pizza was seriously really good. I interpret my experience to mean that the owners of the restaurant truly care about putting a good product out there. The pizza speaks for itself, with good ingredients, etc., and the genuine concern that the manager demonstrated was quite refreshing. I will definitely order from here again, assuming the deliveries are not normally like this. read more

This is the best delivery pizza I've had in Oakland thus far. I really like the pizza with salame, sausage, goat cheese and red pepper. Just the right proportions of cheese, sauce, and toppings with a crust that is hearty enough to hold up, but has a bit of crispy texture. Reasonable prices and on time delivery. No one at the restaurant picked up the phone over all that time, it just rang and rang. Had a hankering for a Calzone (wanted some Cheesy goodness and marinara) so looked on Yelp and found this place less than a mile from where I live. Placed my order through Yelp, and went to pick it up @ 5:30. Order was hot & ready, grabbed it and headed home. The Calzone was fantastic, fresh mozzarella and I think ricotta and what seemed to me to be very fresh dough... The marinara added just made it perfect. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but I really enjoyed this and will be returning next time I want a slice or a calzone. read more

I'm an old school New Yorker and I have had my fair share of pizza from many places. My fav was from a hole in the wall off of Lexington and 23rd. I have lived in Cali for 15 years now half that time in San Diego and half in Oakland. First off pizza in SD was a joke what they called thin crust was nothing more than a cracker with sauce and cheese. Then here in OK-land you had Pizza Man which was ok. Basil is seriously the closest to NY style pizza I have had in Cali. Everything is spot on and I'm now a regular. We had a poor experience. We ordered on Yelp through Grubhub for pickup. Part of our order was missing and we didn't realize until we got home (our mistake for not checking at the restaurant). To top it off, our food was cold (we live less than a five minute drive away) and the mozzarella sticks tasted like they were from the frozen food aisle of the supermarket. We called them and were told we'd have to come pick up what they forgot to give us. With a newborn at home, it was hard enough getting away the first time. We called Yelp/Grubhub and they apologized for not being able to do anything either. Their resolution? Go back to the restaurant for a refund. Safe to say we won't be back. read more
