I go to some classes at Laney College and was riding home one day as I caught a whiff of pizza smell and it moved me. So I pull up on my bike, go in, order a slice for there and an eggplant parm to go, and when I bit into that slice if I wasn't brought back to my one year in NYC in the early 90s I don't know what I was. I ordered a pizza margarita shortly after Basil opened, it was amazing. It had a bright and intense tomato sauce that really made the pizza. I ordered a pizza margarita again last night. It was incredibly disappointing. The tomato sauce was mediocre at best, the cheese was rubbery. The pizza tasted like a basil scented piece of plastic. Just awful. I ate here last year and it was really good. Two weeks ago I ordered a sausage pizza to go. There were about 17 pieces of tiny 1/4 inch sausages hidden in the leathery cheese. Ordered a Pizza from this place and said it would take 45-60mins. Took almost an over an hour to deliver even though they were just down the street. I love these guys. Classic thin crust pizza which reminds me a lot of back where I'm from in Michigan. A lot to say out here with the weak attempts at it. This place makes real pizza. None of that fluffy fried garbage that all the chains serve. The crust is thin and crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside without being fried. Perfect. The toppings and sauce are excellent, but I think the real test is the crust, and about 95% of the pizza places in California don't pass my test. read more

Wonderful customer service. I was with a group doing a photo shoot nearby this shop and we took a couple of photos in front of their store. The owner saw us and offered us a free pizza after our shoot was done and only asked that we tag him in our photos. We finished our shoot and came back and he gave us a free large margarita pizza and it was delicious. I mean it really was amazing! I ended up buying another slice for myself on my way home because it was so good and another one of the owners (I assumed) served me and was just as nice as the other one. Everything was being made fresh in the kitchen and the place was small but very clean. It was so nice of them to offer us the pizza and be so very friendly. My friends wanted pizza and we saw that this place had a good rating. As we walked in I saw a fly in the pizza display and was very turned off by the restaurant. My friends ended up also ordering buffalo chicken wings and chicken Caesar salad and didn't finish. Whatever you do don't expect your item to arrive anywhere near the time promised. Also don't expect any updates on delivery time OR any refunds when you call to complain, just an "our bad." I gave them a second shot and the delivery was super late again and zero communications. I used the "Slice" app and they were also worthless. We got a flyer in the mail for this place - and given that our immediate area has no good pizza - we figured we would try it out. We both grew up loving real New York pizza and this was it! We have finally found the pizza we grew up loving in the East bay! the large pie was a real 16" pie - the crust is delicious! the toppings were excellent! Perfectly foldable and truly excellent!
