All I can say is Wow! We went their last night for an early dinner. The restaurant was starting to fill up, we were promptly seated near the aquarium. The waitress appeared shortly with the specials of the evening... we chose the Arancini De Riso , I have say they couldn't have been better, they were placed I believe over a vodka sauce with cheese. I decided on the Chicken Marsala , while my bride chose the the Piccata. The meals came out with perfect timing , I have to say the Marsala was superb including the small chunks of prosciutto. This was Followed by a wonderful desert that we shared. It had been almost a year since we had been here as we live about 1/2 hour away, I have to say we will be back soon. We used to go here all the time when I was growing up and love their food. It is so good and the restaurant has a nice homey feeling to it. I'd recommend the penne with chicken and broccoli and make sure to use their bread to soak up some of the sauce. read more

This restaurant has been around for 18 years. It is truly a hidden gem. It has excellant food and great service. Great drink selections from wine to hard liquors. The food varies from steak to seafood. Salmon, duck, lamb were also on the menu. The atmosphere was cozy and friendly. We had a wonderful meal at Basil tonight. My husband and I took my Mom who is 88 years young. Mom is a "foodie" who loves eating out and she loved the food and everything else. I'm not from the area but had to order for a banquet in Dover and on a recommendation, ordered from Basil. Tommy was extremely responsive, helped with the menu, and adjusted as we updated the menu and number of servings, seemlessly. He delivered on time and set up in a jiffy. I'm always skeptical of banquet food. Well, the food was AMAZING! And not just by buffet standards. Our menu consisted of chicken piccata, eggplant parm, chicken tenders, penne pasta, Caesar salad, Mac&cheese, and carrot/butternut squash. It appealed to the adults and children alike. We needed to accommodate gluten free diets and to keep it consistent those meals were chicken piccata, gf pasta, and steamed veggie. I look forward to patronizing the restaurant. I normally love basil's food, but tonight I was served a chicken that was completely pink and slimy on the inside. I told our waitress, she brought it back to the kitchen and they said it was sous vide and therefore was safe. They brought back the original pink chicken after they put it in the oven for 5 minutes. (Not at all different). I picked around it and they didn't offer to comp it. The calamari app and other entree was fine, but just thought the whole experience was bizarre. My primary concern was that I gave some to my pregnant wife to try before finding that the inside was raw. I have been to basil several times and we normally enjoy it, but I will stay away from the chicken going forward. read more

The 3 rating is based solely on the food. I tried the butternut squash & carmelized onion soup and am still perplexed about how it could taste EXACTLY like the liquid in a can of baked beans. My wife had the shrimp cocktail and said they tasted great. I chose the lasagna and it was delicious and my wife opted for the veal saltimbocca. She said it was salty and the cheese wasn't melted much. I'd go back for the food, but our server was slow and inattentive. She didn't introduce herself when she arrived to take our order. Not sure if she had too many tables she was responsible for or what, but service was quite slow throughout. We had asked for take home containers and our check, but our server walked past our table 4 different times without providing either. We ended up flagging down the host as he passed and he came back with the takeout containers. When our server finally returned to our table, she seemed put out that we procured the containers on our own and were again asking for the check. Was initially interested in getting coffees and checking out the dessert menu, but didn't think we'd get out of their much before closing if we did. Pretty noisy in the dining room next to the bar area also. In summary, overall the food is good, albeit pricey. Hoping to try it again. read more

I am the last person to write a review online, but after tonights experience i feel it is only fair to save somebody else's time and money. Tonight my girlfriend and i decided to try out Basils after hearing mixed reviews on its service and food. Once we arrived (7:20PM) it was immediately clear we were an obvious inconvenience to the idling hostess. Once we were seated, it took over 25 minutes for our server to even acknowledge we were there. Another ten minutes passed and we finally received two glasses of water and bread, another 15 minutes passed and our server finally decided to ask if we would like some drinks. At which time we decided to kill two birds with one stone and ordered our meals. It took ten minutes for ONE bud light bottle to arrive. Surprisingly our meals arrived shortly after. In all fairness, the food was 8 out of 10. We ordered the spinach salad and linguine with meatballs. Granted the food was thrown in front of us, it was very good. I understand that at times it is difficult for a hostess or server to keep everyone happy, but after the blatant disrespect in which was portrayed to my girlfriend and myself tonight, i feel it is only fair to save somebody else their time and money. Complete waste of my time and money, EXTREMELY disappointed. read more

This is my second favorite place to go! I can't get enough of their Butternut Squash Ravioli. I used to love the stuffed mushroom appetizer, but recently they changed the recipe and not a fan. They also gave oil with their bread and they no longer seem to do that either. I won't reduce my star rating for Basil's due to this but I hope maybe they may read this and go back. Not the first time here.....service has gone down hill though went in for a late dinner at 8:30 and while we sat on the Barside the waitress was also the bar tender...not a good sign had to get up at least three times to ask for things normally a waitress would do...dinner was good but took so long to get about an hour on a slow night we could not do desert or coffe something I always look forward to...I think I will start looking elsewhere.... read more

My husband and I have frequented Basils for many years. Loved the food and the atmosphere. Our only complaint was that we were overcharged for our drinks time and time again. . It became such an issue that we started keeping our empty glass or beer bottle on our table so we could prove to the waitress what we ordered. The last visit became to much, its embarrassing to point out the mistake time and time again. Food was always great but serious issue with bill discrepancies. We decided after a long break from Basils to go back recently and we were welcomed back with a big hello from Betty!. She made sure we got 2 seats together at the bar and grabbed our favorite drinks and offered top service to us! Food was great and best of all our bill was correct! We will definitely continue to go back to Basils. We missed the place and happy to be back as paying customers. Love the newly renovated bar! read more

The food was very good, however, for an Italian restaurant the silverware was not compatible with the food. Round shanks on forks don't work when one is trying to twirl pasta. I had to ask for a standard square/flat shanked fork in order to comfortably eat the pasta. read more

Came here Friday night. This is the first time I've been here in a while, and I wasn't impressed before, but this place has really pulled its socks up. It's a bright friendly neighbourhood bar/ restaurant with smiling and satisfied punters. We sat in the bar area. The menu is varied and plentiful, with an interesting selection of daily specials. I had the breaded veal with pasta and tomato sauce, which was a fulsome portion and very tasty. The red wine was good, and the service from Alyssa and Melissa prompt, efficient and friendly. Eat here on average once every other month. Food is phenomenal. Service is average. You have to order the fried calamari zingarella. You will eat every bit of it. Can't go wrong with the risotto. Especially with shrimp. I highly recommend this place. read more

Outstanding! The salmon is very fresh and the the lamb is perfectly cooked. The drinks are strong and the atmosphere is comfortable. The staff and the management are 5 stars. I've eaten here several times and the food is fantastic. I think it's probably a little over priced but the menu is pretty unique for the area and the food makes up for the over priced drinks. The service is good unless you are eating at a table in the bar area. I like eating in the bar area so this is normally where I end up and I've had the same waitress three times. She might be the worst server I have ever had and every time I go she surprises me with something new. The most recent time I had a pasta dish and couldn't finish it so I got it wrapped up. Instead of putting the food in a take out container like everyone else in the world she threw all the pasta in a paper bag and it leaked all over my car and everywhere else. I'm not sure if she's exceptionally stupid or just doesn't care. So I would say either sit at the bar or get take out. read more

Have lived in Medfield since 2003 but just recently found this gem. Have frequented the bar most often, but several visits to the dining room have been fabulous as well. Melissa is amazing. She takes a personal interest in her clients. The bar manager and bar server are also top notch and the bar area operates like the best of well oiled machines. No nonsense. Food has been consistently fabulous, with the caveat that we always ask what to get and often order the specials. We cannot speak to the general menu except that our 14 and 17 year old children love the ravioli combo and Alfredo. Wish we had visited years and years earlier, but if we had, would be a lot lighter in the wallet today because we are now frequent fliers. Total winner. Enjoy. read more

First time here was Sunday for supper. We arrived at 18:00 and sat at the bar. It was busy despite the snow storm and there was only one friendly waiter. Since there was no one in dining room may be better to have other waiter help her out! The waitress at the bar had a great attitude. The menu had a large selection of italian and main stream dishes. I went with the special lobster cod picata and my wife has the lasagna. My dish was good and my wife's lasagna was very good and a huge portion. Overall the bar area was loud with a few happy customers having multiple conversations. So food was good a little pricey the special but croud at the bar was in a roudy mood. Strangely tucked within a residential neighborhood just behind Medfield center, Basil provided a comfortable setting for a fun night out with friends. Reasonably priced but slow on the service. Steamers were a great choice for an appetizer. Friends liked their haddock and scallops plate and ziti, chicken and broccoli meal. We stopped in the bar area a few weeks ago for dinner. It was later in the evening so we had appetizers only and shared most so we could get a great variety. We had escargot, two salads, zingerella calamari and their ravioli sampler...so more dinner appetizers than their pub menu. The service was great until we were looking to leave but our waitress was attentive the majority of the time. Portions were decent (calamari was more than we could eat) and the ravioli sampler was impressive. We had a bottle of wine while dining and the check at the end was very reasonable. Place was good. Food was very tasty and good-size portions and appetizers. Not cheap but not expensive. I tried the Chicken parm to test out the place and it was hot, nicely cooked, and the red sauce was good. My wife had the Ravioli sampler and while the other two raviolis-styles were tasty the lobster ravioli was really good, I will have that next time I went back. We had the spicy calamari for an appetizer and they were mostly crisp but the lemon sauce that it was sitting in was too oily and made the bottom half of a few of the calamari pieces soggy. Would recommend getting that on the side if possible. Defintely will be back, not romantic but a cozy place and the food was excellent. read more
