I can't believe this place still exists, but eh - I'll Yelp it. It's the Cheers of Stockton. You're bound to run into a few peeps from high school if you're there on a weekend. Heck, I'm sure you'll run into a few of them even during the week. Small, cramped - the UOPers take over and give you dirty looks like they own the town (SIT DOWN SON, I WAS BORN AT ST. JOE'S FTHRMKR) and I'd never order anything other than beer or a vodka tonic there in fear of what butchering they may do to any other concoction. BTW, I don't drink beer. But it is what it is. Decorations were simple but some of the bartenders were nice. The good thing about this bar is that they can open a tab for their customers. They can order as many drinks as they want and put it under their tab. Then when they are about to leave they can pay for all of their drinks at once rather than paying for each drink individually. They have a jukebox where customers can choose any song that they want it to be played. But the bad part is that when someone in the bar doesn't like the song they would go and choose a different one. They have an outdoor patio where customers can smoke and drink. They have some pretty good drinks and pretty strong too. Prices for their drinks are decent. Overall, it's a decent bar to grab a couple of drinks after a long day of work. read more

Stockton doesn't have the best selection for nightlife I've ever seen, but Basil's gets pretty darn close to an establishment that you would find in a bigger city. Best thing about this place is the service. The blonde bartender is so friendly, remembers our names, and always checks up on us. The security guy is really personable and will stop and have a small talk about our night and our recent goings-on. Prices can get a little high for things I would expect to be lower (like their pitchers, for example) but the mixed drinks are strong. The atmosphere is generally very nice, and there isn't a lot of riff-raff like some other establishments in Stockton. read more

This was my first time at this restaurant I only went because they serve Guinness. I ordered a glass of Guinness which the bartender failed to pour properly. she placed the glass on the surface of the bar and proceeded to pour, more than 12in from the tap to the glass. the beer came out foamy and stayed very foamy. the bartender stated that "all of the beer was coming out foamy that it was attempted to be repaired several times but they couldn't do it" but watching the bartender pour it's no wonder all of beers came out foamy she could not pour beer correctly. I suggested her putting the glass closer to the tap and she would not do that she said she's "been doing this for 14 years" and "it just started doing it" but it doesn't show in her skill level. I ordered some food the bread was very dry on my sandwich all of which I was willing to deal with.chalk it up to small time restaurant. I left a small tip on my bill to make a comment about the service when I looked at my bank statement the bartender added $4 to the bill padding her tip. i will never return to this place they have poor service and steal from the customer read more

Update:18 days since my post and no management has reached out. Either they simply don't care or they don't read their yelp. Who is laughing at this post and thinking it's cool? Messy rachets at this bar probably I've been there 3 times. First two times maybe 7years ago. This 3rd time was in 2017 horrible experience. There were women customers who had aggressive behaviors and tendencies. My friend and I headed to the restroom with no line and the moment we locked the door and put the toilet cover on the seat we heard a *bang bang bang* ( multiple hard loud aggressive knocks) and women telling us to "hurry the f up" . The knocks and yells became more aggressive when it was my turn to use the toilet and wash my hands. I proceeded to open the door and none of the lady's said anything, thus I don't know who was being so rude. Clearly pent up anger. A second experience recorded by my friend (who was brought back to the bar last weekend by her coworkers) happened while waiting to use the restroom. A women pulled a strand of her hair and said "checking to see if it's real". My friend didn't think any of it and then my friend and her coworker went to the restroom (their turn) and then heard banging on the door once they locked the door. My friend could not remember how they looked unfortunately... Needless to say.... This establishment should pay close attention to women who are regulars at this bar because this seems to be normal behavior especially by the women's bathroom area... Not cool and don't plan to go back... Plus side, The night I went there I saw an old friend on the way out of the bar... read more

Fun sports bar. Come here On sundays, they serve food. Fun place to watch the game. Tacos were good and the bartender was sweet.

Basils is a nice small bar where you can hang out with your friends enjoy a drink and listen to music or watch Sports. As for the service, there's only one bartender but he's quick at taking drink orders. read more

I was a regular before I moved out of town. I lived upstairs and can honestly say you will never, ever find a pub/bar hybrid like this in Stockton or the surrounding area. No hipster place beats it. Go to Basil's. Safe and friendly and the bartenders are excellent (especially Chris & Richard!). Not sure who still works there now, but I never had a bad experience. At first glance, this place appeared like a charming little hidden gem, just tucked away from the busy street of March Lane. We met a couple friends there, and ordered food and drinks. The food was disappointing... The chef salad was mediocre at best, with its small, portions, sloppy presentation, and horrible service. Our food just sat there in plain sight, just waiting for it to be delivered to us. After seeing our food sit there for a while, my husband had to go to our waitress and ask, "How's our food coming along?" At that point she noticed our food sitting out and was like, "Oh its done... There it is." We finally got our food and was nevered checked on again and the place was not even busy at the time we were there. I wouldn't recommend this place nor will we be returning. read more

We came here to watch the Denver Bronco game. We got there around 9:30 on a Sunday and were the first ones there. So pleased! Nice bartender (Ashley), nice regulars. The regulars make you feel welcome. The place has been there 33 years and is in pretty good condition. We had the soup and french dip. Both were good and hit the spot. It's really small and filled up pretty fast after we arrived. This will be our go to bar when the Broncos aren't playing on basic cable. read more

If possible I would give Basil's 3.5 stars. As people have said before me - it's a bar. So don't expect to go there for dancing. There are some really nice bartenders there (and I've had a few that would make me a heavier drink when necessary) - the bouncers can be pretty cool at times as well. A few of my friends and I used to go there so often that the bartenders and bouncers would remember us. If you like sweet drinks ask for a Royal Flush, that's where I first tried one - and I've been introducing bartenders at other bars to it since then. I've always liked the drinks over there, and the bartenders will give you peanuts/bar snacks if you ask nicely (especially on a not-so-busy night). The drinks are about average price I would say, it honestly depends on what you get (do you want more expensive/top-shelf things or would you rather have a good old fashioned cheap drink?) - I myself am somewhat of a liquor snob so I end up buying more expensive drinks. So to each his or her own. ^_^ If you attend Pacific you will see a few people over there - especially if they live in Venetian Bridges. It's pretty convenient to just walk there from your apartment. It's a pretty small bar, and when I used to frequent it, Basil's could get pretty crowded so there was no where to sit and enjoy your drink. Now a days though it's not as bad and you can find a seat. The bathrooms are hit or miss over there (there have been two times that I've gone into the women's bathroom and there has been puke on the floor - not fun. However, considering how often I've been there during my 23 years on this planet it's not like it's a frequent occurrence). Anyway, sorry for the length. Also as a Pacific alum might I add the disclaimer that too many people are scared of Stockton for no real reason (especially people who are not from here). I'm originally from Chicago and trust me I've seen a lot worse. When I was a freshman at Pacific everyone would ask me why I came to Stockton and tell me about how "scary" and "horrible" it is. However, besides some parts on the other side of town (no where near Basil's) I haven't really seen anything too bad. Yes everyone who's gone to Pacific has at one point in their lives heard a few gunshots, but eh nothing to write home about (then again if my parents knew that they would probably have freaked out, XD). So there's no need to fear the area around Basil's - it's by the Hilton and Venetian Bridges (Venetian Bridges is just apartments for those who haven't been around here before, and these apartments seem to have a fair amount of Pacific and Delta students) - and I've never felt uncomfortable or threatened in that area. As the person who lives next door/above you, you provide awesome entertainment on the weekends after you guys close. Apparently the alcohol is good because I've never seen someone leave sober. A word of warning, if you go and get too drunk and fall asleep on my car, you will be rudely woken up when we leave for work at 6:45. I say that because it has not happened once, not twice, but three different times. So if you're looking for a good time, go there. The sandwiches are good and apparently the alcohol is great. This is first bar I ever went to when I turned 21 and I love it! No other bar in Stockton can compare to it. The inside is nice, but a little small, and I like that they have an outside area for the smokers. If you ever go there, ask for their house drink, called 420, you won't regret it. read more

Yes it's a bar. It was a bit pricey a good friend took me and my hunny out. Thank goodness. The atmosphere was good, saw some old friends. I had one drink which lasted me the entire night. Basils seem craking buuuuut... Im not too fond of the crowded place. There should be a limit about how many people can enter because i swear to bob i waited like 20 minutes to get one beer. And also the locals be acting funny, attitude everywhere. I really did enjoy the waiters though. Generous smilers. You should pay then more for all the hoolagins that have to go through. I go here regularly (well used too)....I love the margaritas the woman makes, she's a dark haired woman in her 30s and she makes strong drinks and very friendly.....but last night was one of the worst experiences of customer service I have ever encountered. I had literally been there for 5 min when I asked one of the bartenders (short darker Asian man with pony tail) if the jukebox worked, he said "no I'm playing the music"... I said oh can we change it to another song?....he said " no, I play what the FUCK I want".....I was so embarrassed and so upset I could not enjoy my drink or my night after that. He approached our table and said if we were ok and I told him I felt he was rude. He basically shrugged me off and said "oh well" and asked me to leave...I definitely left and will never come back!!! And I will tell every single person that asks where to go for a good time and good people NOT BASILS!!!!! Plus they just had a drive by shooting 2 weekends in a row....NO GOOD!!!!! read more

Very disappointed! Not only did the bartenders have an attitude the entire time we were there but then after already leaving them a 20% tip - they tipped themselves some more on my card! This is the first place I went to when I turned 21. A guy bought me a beer for my birthday and I was hooked. A little pricey when it comes to drinks, but that's ok. I like the fact that I can just roll in there with gym shorts and a hoodie and have a beer without worrying about feeling like a scrub. Awesome bartenders also. I'm not a smoker, but I do feel like a drag once in a while so the patio is awesome for that. I would recommend this place, plus if you are a traveler just stay at the hotel next door and stumble and fumble your way home. Took my girlfriend here for her first time at a bar. She loved it. Along with our many other friends. The bouncer is cool. The bartender took good care of us. The crowd is pretty chill as well.
