I've been here many times in the evenings to enjoy a cigar and live music. The lounge is upstairs and has a cozy, old rustic feel with wooden bar tops and tables close to the musicians. The bartenders can be busy but are always friendly. I ordered the Rocky Patel 15th Anniversary, which was a little on the dry side possibly their humidor was a bit off. It also gets fairly loud when the music is playing, so it's not ideal for conversation. Overall, it's still a great spot to relax, enjoy a cigar, and listen to live music. read more

Came here for a good night of drinks and music. Made reservations for the restaurant then afterwards the plan was to slide upstairs for the band. Well the plans changed. Given the size of the upstairs I'm glad we came right upstairs first. As it is very very small and tight. It's first come and first serve. Ordered wings fries and crab soup. The wings were okay from what my friend said. The soup could be better. It needed old bay seasoning and more crab. It was very bland. Too much scallions in it. It was like eating scallion cream soup. For $15 it could have been better. The drinks. They put too too much ice in them. My whiskey sour turned into water sour. My friend's old fashioned was old ice with orange and cherry bitters. Very disappointing. Even with the food and drinks not being the best the music was on point. The band was awesome. The space is very very tight and limited so you will need to arrive early if you want to sit by the band. But there is also seating at the bar down the hall. And the balcony seating does not do any justice as you can't see band only hear them. They could expand if possible. I gave it 2 stars due to the food and drinks. The music pushed it to 3. I told my significant other the first time we came here that I didn't feel comfortable rating this place. It's more of his spot. I didn't want to rate it with my opinion when I don't smoke cigars. Fast forward to this past Memorial Day weekend, we came back. I was shocked to see the place so empty on a Holiday. I saw familiar faces in there. I also saw the "family"environment. Where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came You wanna go where people know People are all the same You wanna go where everybody knows your name. Yup I literally sang that song! lol Hope you did too! Loved the band playing on Monday, was different from the last band. Great variety. Overall there are just a bunch of men smoking cigars. Some women do come in but usually they are smoking too or are with significant others. The smoke never makes me feel icky. It's super ventilated. Stumbled across this gem while in Old Town. Visited on a Wednesday night around 8pm. This place was huge. We sat at the bar for a nightcap. Marlon took phenomenal care of us. He was very informative on the cigar selections and suggested the perfect one to pair with our tequila! There was a live blues and jazz band. There is plenty of seating to see the band. The level with the band is where patrons are allowed to smoke cigars. There is also a smoking area on the basement level with a dj! They have a couple of dining rooms which are on a smoke free level. I am generally repulsed by smoke, but it was subtle and didn't offend me. Even at nearly midnight the customer service was really good. The drinks were okay. The band sounded great. It's DC Jazz week and we wanted to find a spot to enjoy some music - we found a great spot in Basin Street Lounge. It's located above 219 restaurant which makes for a great combo date night. We headed into the lounge around 10:30 - the lounge area was packed and smelled strongly of cigars and cigs. If the smell of smoke bothers you, I wouldn't recommend this lounge. The ventilation isn't great and smoking is allowed in all areas of the bar. We made our way to the bar and ordered a couple of wines (reisling and pinot noirs for about $12 a glass). Each patron was charged a $5 cover charge that was added to our drink bill. After we got our drinks, we began hawking tables for empty chairs. Unfortunately, the main floor was packed (standing room only) but we spotted a stairway headed to an upstairs area. Upstairs there are 4-5 additional tables and seating setups. It seems like most patrons didn't know this was up there - what a find! We were able to hear the band really well (the view was a little cut off) and the cigar smell was also a bit less noticeable upstairs. The vibes can't be beat. The band played until about 1am - we were able to chat and dance while sipping our wines. If you like an old fashioned styled jazz lounge then this is the place for you. Came here out of convenience at is one of the only cigar lounges in old town. Atmosphere is great as you can enjoy live music (we came on a Thursday night) while sitting back on a nice drink and cigar, but the ventilation system isn't all the great. Wouldn't recommend going here unless you're okay with the smell. Drink selection is great if you're into scotch & bourbon - but the cigar selection was pretty limited. Literally has three different levels of fun that include a bar and cigar lounge - restaurant no smoking section and a basement bar that is also a night club with a huge college student and locals crowd. The ambience is elegant and cozy with an amble supply of liquor and they serve Cajun food. Did I mention they sometimes have live music playing at the restaurant level? You can never lose with great energy and a live band setting the mood while you eat. I have visited this establishment on numerous occasions . I highly recommend you pay cash. I have been double charged at least 3 times I can recall now. I'm billed for the initial day of the visit, and then a day later another charge is charged to the account. There is no resolution that the business can provide, but to say it will drop off. Nice spot for live music, cigars and drinks. It tends to be a bit crowded on the weekends because of the live music but me and my friend were lucky to grab a few seats one a Saturday night. It may be difficult for group if you get there anytime after 8pm. Good selection of scotch and cigars. The bartenders were helpful though they seemed short staffed like a lot of places during this time. I appreciated the TVs in the lounge type area so we could enjoy our cigars while watching college football. Stopped in here to listen to some music and smoke cigars. Was seated close to the stage and wish we had sat farther back. Got bumped quite a bit and a group came in and lingered behind us. Otherwise, enjoyed the band that was playing there, the server was very nice and liked the overall vibe. Just need to remember to pick an area that is less trafficked next time. An awkward setup is the restrooms are upstairs and you need to pass through the side of the stage. Gets tricky when they are in a middle of a set. read more

They now stick you with a 90-minute time limit that starts as soon as you sit down at your table!!! WTF??!! This has nothing to do with COVID. The service has steadily been declining at this place for years, and I've continued to go for over 2 years because I wanted to support a local gem. I had a friend come in from out of town and I wanted to show him the cigar lounge and live music. 3 of us were ordering stuff the whole time, so it's not about $ per table. I asked for another drink and was told "I'm sorry, the hostess has told me that your time is up." They demand to hold your credit card while you dine, not swipe it, open a tab, and hand it back. About a year ago they lost my credit card when I closed out my tab. I tried to politely ask the guy where it went and he blew up at me. I let it slide. But now with all of the rude COVID treatment, time limit, and generally lousy, rude service, that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Oh, and it is old school, my friends, with textured leather bar stools and chairs that just make you want to curl up and enjoy a good bourbon or scotch, Also, the customers are quiet and charming as each has come to Basin Street to enjoy a good cigar and a nice drink. Another factor on the plus side is that they sell cigars here, but what seems to be only the best quality (None of those truly cheap stogies your sweaty uncle would smoke during Xmas..ok, maybe that was just my Xmas not yours, but you get the idea). Yes, the high quality cigars and the massive smoke eating system make this lounge one a non-smoker and smoker alike can enjoy in a kind of friendly smoking detente if you will. This all simply means that one and all can enjoy a truly wonderful bar which is stocked with some best high end spirits in Alexandria. My bartender Brad skillfully mixed up a sazerac that was as good as anything that I have had in New Orleans. His co bartender Jamie was equally professional, bringing a smile to everyone's rainy Saturday with her charming personality and bar skills. On a recent trip to DC and staying in Alexandria, we stumbled onto this Cigar Lounge through the sounds of live music. We walked up the stairs and were met by the sounds of the Lynwood Taylor Blues band. We got a mixture of drinks from Long Island's to champagne and everyone enjoyed them. Myself and a friend looked over the cigar menu and chose a mild Blackwood. This is not one of my longer reviews but at the end of the day we only got drinks, cigars, and live music. If I'm being honest the only reason for the four star was that the volume of the band could have been mixed a bit better for the venue. The lyrics were drowned out to being pointless but damn those guys could play their instruments like surgeons! Not an easy place to hold a conversation because of this; unless you move to the back of the bar. I will DEFINITELY be back if ever in Alexandria again! read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE !!! We were excited to find Basin Street Lounge after hearing about them online and through friends. We were so disappointed, Patty the owner made sure of that. We were put on a wait after no one was at the door, security confronted us, no problem. We had drinks (made with outdated sour orange juice, yuck) and had to ask to have them re-made, full bill paid. Eww, now we waited almost 30 minutes to be seated on a stool and not greeted for 15 more minutes. I asked if we could move and were put outside which was actually upstairs to be forgotten about for another 20 minutes. We then asked if we could move downstairs where the music and everyone else was and the server said oh you must have been the couple that we were looking for for the main room in front of the band to smoke cigars, the entire reason you were here. Yup. I had enough and went downstairs to discuss with Patty who said she was the owner and she said that there was nothing that she could do. AVOID this place at all costs, they will take your money and not care at all about you. She literally ruined our night and didn't even care at all. This is a very cool lounge. Tucked away in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. We decided to take the ride up and enjoy some live music, some drinks and a cigar. The band was playing good music and we chose to sit in the cigar area with the couches and TVs. Always have a good time when we come here. The drinks are good and strong, food is good as well. Terrible service from this place. I had a double four roses single barrell. 33 bucks and change no sweat as i was killing time. i hand him a 50. 5 mins later comes back. he hands me a 5. im pretty good with math and he is clearly short. so i call him over and he says i dont have change. i say ok so what does that mean for me. he says thats all i got and shrugs. "you can just leave a nice tip." i state to him thats not equittable nor does that make sense. This is within 5 mins of sitting down at a non crowded bar. not my job to get change for the bar. so i said run me my 50 back. He then doubles down well then i have to take this drink back as i am about to take a sip. Ok take it. He retorts why dont you just use a card. why should i have 2. He then says why am i being difficult like i wronged him. Then 10 mins later as i am about to leave states i found another 5 (at this point met a couple who over heard the entire thing and we were laughing about it at this point otherwise i would have been gone). u wanna do that. Do you want to drink whiskey and smoke cigars? Then this is the place for you! But they've got other stuff, including an extensive and reasonably-priced wine list and decent draft list. Service was excellent. But the food ... they have a pretentious menu that I suspect they don't live up to. I ordered the asiago mac and cheese, which was *incredibly* rich and yet still not good. The philosophy seemed to be to just dump as much dairy fat in there as possible. There was also bacon in it, not noted on the menu. I don't eat meat but just ate around it as possible as I don't like to make a fuss. But I ate some and all I can say is those gristly, flavorless chunks are not the magical substance people seem to be talking about when they obsess about bacon. Making a solid mac and cheese is not hard. When using cream (I suspect) and bacon as flavor crutches, the result should have been a lot better. Their food is expensive -- I don't plan to give it a second try. But as a bar the place is great! read more

Absolutely love this place. My favorite place to go on nights that I'm not busy. Very loud and heavy with smoke but its a musicians dream. Highly recommend to any musicians or appreciators of music. Music EVERY NIGHT of the week and ALL of the acts are incredibly talented. Even a blues hall of famer rolls through and its always a great time.
