I ordered a slice of beehive cake to bring home because it reminds me of the German Bienenstich, bee sting cake. It was pretty good but was too much cream and not enough cake. Can't say much about the coffee here (except my buddy said his iced latte was fine) but the mango frappe with oat milk was awesome. The problem is the straws they provide is too tiny! So it gets crushed by the opening in the lid and you basically spend your time sucking and sucking lol! So the solution is to remove the lid and stick the straw straight into the cup without the lid and then it's fine. Also the lemon bar was nice but the morning bun and Raisin Bran muffin were both on the dry side. Location is very nice -- you can sit outside across from the Sonoma Square park. read more

I don't know what kind of circus this place is running, but calling it a "coffee shop" is an insult to actual coffee shops. I waited 20 minutes for a lukewarm latte that tasted like burnt water and regret. The barista acted like I was interrupting their day by ordering something off the menu . We stopped here on a Thursday morning for a little pastry & drink. We came a little later in the morning but I was surprised to see their selection of pastries was very limited. We ordered a bread pudding & lemon tart. The bread pudding was warmed upon serving it was very tasty & not sweet, which I prefer. The lemon tart was lacking the tartness that I love in a lemon tart, it was good but I would have preferred more lemon flavor. To drink we ordered a mimosa & a white mocha. My mimosa was delicious it had the perfect amount of OJ & Bubbles. My mom's mocha was very good, next time she'll order it extra hot since it came out warm. If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. My friends and I were hyped to get cheese sticks from Basque, and as we were walking up to the door, one of the workers inside practically *rushed* over. We thought she was being nice, maybe opening the door for us--nope. Instead, she aggressively yanked the door right out of my friend's hand, flipped the 'open' sign to 'closed' like it was some power move, then slammed the door in our faces and just walked away like it was no big deal. Meanwhile, there were plenty of people still eating inside and outside! Even if the place was closing, there's ZERO excuse for treating customers like that. A simple "Sorry, we're closed" would've been miles better. Other customers saw it too and called out how rude and disrespectful she was. This was downright unacceptable. She even not provide the receipt until I asked for it. They auto charged 4% tips from $21 worth of order ? The food we ordered do taste below average compare to the France store name they have. The tomato soup is salty, the Turkey Panini sandwich tasted bad and the Coke soft drink was watery. This is a bad store to come for your meals. Sure it was within one hour of closing when I popped into the bakery. The good thing about coming in that late on a Saturday was that they were giving away free loaves of bread. I got a loaf of sliced sourdough rye bread. A $5.95 value. But I also ordered a tuna sandwich. Come on, I got a tomato and lettuce sandwich with a thin pitiful spread of tuna. If they didn't have enough tuna for a full sandwich serving, just tell me. But since it was my first time here, possibly that is the serving size. Disappointing either way. Plus the tuna lacked zing. Tasted like mayonnaise and tuna and not much of anything else. The almond bear claw was good. Nice flavor of almond paste inside. It was topped with a layer of slivered almonds. It is counter service. Plus the cafe has few indoor and outdoor bistro size tables cramped super close to each other. Not optimal for parties exceeding two people. read more

When we first entered the bakery, we were the only one there and were barely greeted as if we were bothering the only two people behind the counter. One of them absolutely could not speak a word of English and thank God I'm fluent in Spanish so I could communicate. The pastry case was almost bare with the exception of a few muffins and the ones that we bought and tried, were very dry. It made me think they were from the day before. It was 1130am when we got there so I am sure there was not a crowd of 100 that had preceded us for the display case to be so empty. I have not been to Sonoma in a few years and that is not how I remember this bakery . Upon inquiry I found out that these are new owners and that explains how it went down in quality. Needless to say, I will not go back and it's sad because I always enjoyed it there. The new people need to do better if they want to keep the clientele coming in. It's the bread for me! The bread was the best part of coming here by far and for me redeemed the somewhat coarse attitudes and long line. I tried a cheese danish and it was good but not memorably good, I would def order it again bc I love cheese danish but not gonna call home to my mom about it, lol. But the bread was!! It was my first time going there. Coming from San Francisco. There were 2-3 note saying that the prices have changed and for some items inside the menu, the prices have increased from 50 cents to 1.5 dollar which is not written in the menu, but when you want to pay, you will see it. I ordered a chicken sandwich, which was 10$ and when it wanted paid, it was $11 but when I got my print was $ 12.5. When I looked at the bill, 44 cents was calculated for payment by card . And they charged me extra without telling me beforehand. This is unethical. I ordered a $ 10 sandwich but paid almost 13$. My frustration is on them cheating for an extra amount of charging me without telling me. I got my sandwich and it was really really small . You can see it in the picture compared to my hand . It was less than $ 2 worth of food . You pay a lot less for such a small sandwich in San Francisco. I wanted to use the toilet and the lock was broken . You could not use the bathroom . Ever since the original owner sold out the quality of the bread has changed to crap. The sourdough and baguettes have lost the airy consistency and flavor is bland. The ciabatta was awesome but now resembles a regular loaf (not flattened) and tastes like all the rest of the bread...bland! Two days ago I stopped by the Basque to buy a couple of beehives pastries. I couldn't believe how much they charge for one pastry, $8 a piece. Really!? This is just highway robbery. When I paid I asked the lady behind the counter how much were the other pastries and she told me that they were all at $8 a piece. Incredible! Even Bouchon Bakery does not charge this price. Also, they should put the price on the pastries in the case this way the customers could decide before ordering if they want to fork out $8 for a slice of cake. We stopped into Basque Cafe when we were exploring the Downtown Sonoma town square area when we were looking for a low key sandwich and salad lunch. It's located near the Sonoma Town Hall, and has a large outdoor patio area for dining. My partner and I stopped in on a weekday for a late lunch and we both ordered the Chicken Salad on Croissant ($10.50), and split a side salad ($6). They prepared everything freshly for you and you pick it up at the counter where you can take your food to your table of your choice. Everything was very fresh and flavorful and it was exactly what we were looking for for a light lunch. Definitely recommend trying them if you're in the Sonoma area! read more

The young man who works at the front register is the most sweetest, helpful, communicative, and attentive worker that I have encountered here. He's doing a great job, I'm glad he is still around.
