Finally got a chance to check out Jagalchi. I've heard the line for Basquia has been crazy. It wasn't too long when I visited and I really wanted to try the Dubai chocolate. Didn't want to wait in line for just that, so grabbed one of the Red Velvet Strawberry sulpang as well. Line moves a little slow as there were only 2 cashiers. Bakery items packaged nicely which was appreciated. The sulpang wasn't too sweet. The cream helped as I think alone it might be a bit dry. It was ok. The Dubai chocolate bar was good, though. Pricey at $13 but glad to finally try one. Not too many items when I visited, but when I went another time they also had plain and chocolate financiers. The line was too long during that visit so we didn't pick any up. Friends have noted having tried the chocolate madelines and said those were good too. read more

My first time here, the entrance was a little annoying. They have a door on the outside, but you can't go in that way. It doesn't say you can't go in that way either. From inside the market you can go in but you can't bring in the cart which is annoying if you just finished shopping. I didn't want to bring the stuff in the car and go back in. After kind of pushing my way through, which everyone else was doing, why I'm not sure. It was rude, like we're all going in for the same thing but whatever. There wasn't a huge selection, but it was enough to keep everyone happy. They had grab and go pastries and cake slices that you lined up for, and they also had coffees and teas. This is a list of the items I tried: 1. Bake plain sulpang - My cousin told me that this was so good and tasted like a baked puto. When I tried it, it was ok. Nothing special. It was like the top of a sourdough bread and nothing great on the inside. 2. Strawberry sulpang - This had strawberry cream on the inside and a strawberry on top. This was my favorite. It was lightly sweet and didn't taste like artificial strawberries. 3. Ganschu chocolate cake - light and not too sweet. I was torn between this and mango. 4. Mango slice - Mango is always my go-to, and this wasn't bad. It was light 5. Carrot cake - This I do not recommend. The cake part was so dry it was inedible. It was a pretty good experience. I can't wait to come back and try more items. I wanted to try the chocolate covered madelines. I saw they were the only one's that were untouched. For $4 each, I can see why. read more

A new place in Serramonte Center, inside of Jagalchi which just opened. They have an extremely limited menu, but it is quality. The Tteokbokki is flavorful but not spicy. They have coffee & tea drinks as well as some cakes and sandwiches out in the cold case. We arrived late in the day. The baked goods were pretty much cleaned out. I must come back at an earlier time to get a better selection. Even though they have signs up that say no shopping carts, the place was jammed full of shopping carts. What do they expect? It's in a grocery store. They currently open at 10AM, but after the grand opening madness, they plan to open at 7. read more

A great bakery located inside of Jagalchi grocery store. They have a variety of bread, baked goods, and cakes along with a cafe serving drinks and some food. The interior design complements the bakery well and would be a nice place to study on weekdays when there is usually less people. Staff is also really nice and helpful with questions we had. DO NOT waste your money here. Basquia Bakery is selling dangerously stale and spoiled pastries. The Black Sesame Injeolmi ($4.50) had rotten custard - not just old, but actually spoiled, smelled and inedible. The "Small Baked Plain" ($3) was stale and hard. Their $6 Black Sesame Magic drink? Cheap powder in a tiny cup. This place is all show, zero substance. What makes this truly unacceptable is that they KNOW these pastries are bad, had been sitting for more than a day and are selling them anyway. This isn't just poor quality but it also a health hazard. The fancy display case, the good looking pastries are just camouflage for expired products that should have been thrown out days ago. Absolutely zero business ethics. They're literally putting profit over customer safety. I'm genuinely concerned about anyone who might get food poisoning from eating here. Basquia Bakery, nestled inside the glitzy new Jagalchi Market, has been buzzing with locals, tourists, and feral tong-less bread grabbers alike. The spotlight? The infamous 술빵 (sulpang) aka makgeolli bread, aka fermented rice wine buns, aka soft lil' lies wrapped in a beautiful steamed sponge. Now listen. I'm a sucker for hometown nostalgia, so when I heard these babies were made with makgeolli, I was emotionally compromised. They looked like edible clouds: perfectly pillowy, pastel-hued, and neatly arranged like a K-drama prop bakery. I thought I was about to eat a fermented dream. Wrong. Let's talk about flavor or lack thereof. These buns promised a "slightly sweet, tangy, fermented" profile. My friend and I were so happy to run into this bakery! The look and feel of the place is just like a bakery cafe in South Korea. The staff was also kind, and gave suggestions as to what they liked. We were very intrigued by the sulpang makgeolli bread, and were happy with the unique taste. The bread wasn't too sweet (unlike usual American sweet breads), and actually reminded me of the filipino dessert- puto. We were also very pleased with the matcha lattes (unpictured, as they simply come in a white cup). The pound cake was a little bit dry for my taste, and the cookie is on the cakier side if you're into that. We ordered the Pane Rose Tteokbokki at 8pm and it took around 5 minutes to come out (no line). Overall, it was pretty good! We're big fans of tteokbokki but have never heard of rose tteokbokki (and definitely not in a bread bowl) so we didn't know what to expect, but we liked it! The bread bowl is made of rice flour so it has a unique texture, somewhat chewier and more dense - very tasty dipped in the soup! The rose tteokbokki sauce is creamy, spicy, and very sweet - similar sweetness level to Boudin's butternut squash soup. The tteok is very soft, which I liked. Overall, I'd say the soup is tasty but a bit too sweet for my taste and I wish there was maybe more tteok in the bowl or some other ingredients that can be served in tteokbokki, but the bread bowl itself is really good and pairs surprisingly well the sauce! Everything at Basquia Bakery inside Jagalchi Korean grocery store is larger in portion size for sure. Cake slices here at $4.50/$6.00/$7.00 isn't too bad at all. If you go to Paris Baguette or Tous Les Jours, each cake slice may cost you around $8. Large whole cakes can be in the $40/$50/under $60 price range. Cakes are too beautiful to look at. Employees are all friendly and helpful. Note, they open at 7am too and yes, there's small breakfast options here. Korean rice flour instead of cake flour may not fit everyone's taste or appetite, but they do have a beautiful variety of pastries, breads, cakes, and goodies to choose from. Sulpang is always popular as they do make holiday style versions too. Hot/cold Korean beverages are very good. I had the hot cup of fresh Yulmu tea beverage $5 and absolutely enjoyed drinking it. My pumpkin cheesecake sliced cake $6 was very fresh & delicious too. You get the holiday vibes here with Christmas music playing in the background too. Nice and cozy place to chill. Location is super clean and organized with plenty of tables and chairs to relax inside. I see customers eating their Jagalchi to-go meals and grocery food items here too, but you're really not supposed to bring outside foods or beverages at this cafe bakery. Signs are posted. Besides, if you ordered a large dosirak bento meals, the box/tray doesn't fit into the holes of the trash bins here, and you would have to dispose it at the mall's garbage bins elsewhere instead. Overall, this is a great cafe bakery environment for people to enjoy and relax. It's worth the visit and staffs do wipe down the tables here. Tempting each time. read more

wow! talk about "not too sweet" -- i wouldn't even say basquia buns are "sweet" at all. the sulpang buns they serve are made from makgeolli, korean rice wine, so you're really in for a different kind of bakery experience. since i was there at 10am, the plain sulpang came fresh out of the oven, so i knew i had to have it. the aroma was irresistible and i love my buns warm. i love how the top of the bun is semi-crunchy, almost crème brûlée-like. it really gives the fluffy and spongy bread the perfect bite. i also had to get the dubai chocolate sulpang. since the pistachio cream was quite sweet, it complemented the bread nicely and gave it the moistness it needed. it was like a cupcake, except it's bread at the bottom instead of cake. i did wish the bread had been richer in chocolate flavor, though. while it's still pretty crowded since the grand opening, this bakery is worth a visit for its unique offerings. there is plenty of seating as well as a patio (not to mention an entire shopping mall). plus, the ambience is so clean, modern, and bright. i'll definitely be back to try more flavors and other items! read more

What to say... Came here on opening day. It was packed! I honestly don't know what people were ordering because there was literally no bread. There was some cakes/chocolates in the display case though. I guess everyone ordered the drinks? Anyway, we got the black sesame drink and the dalgona. Skip the black sesame drink. It's literally milk and black sesame. Not sure what I was expecting. Dalgona was good though! Never had it before so no idea how it compares. Waited in line at least 20-30 minutes to get the drinks but also the rose tteokbokki. Omg it was delicious! I do wish they gave more rice cake, instead of coming in a bread bowl. While it looked kind of cool, I did not enjoy eating the bread with the sauce. It was decently spicy too. We saw rose tteokbokki in the hot foods section and got it another day and wow it was not the same. I was hoping it would be, since the bakery charged double! Not sure I'd get it again because it was just too much bread. Worth it to try though. When we came another time, line was much shorter. There were other breads to get but it looked like everything was sweet so I passed on that. read more

This is my go to coffee spot in serramonte mall! This iced vanilla latte is always made to perfection. They use sightglass coffee which I love that they use local coffee :) weekdays it's never a long wait but on weekends expect to wait a bit due to high traffic. The pastries and snacks are also really good. I love how they made the pasties decorated for the Halloween season can't wait to see if they decorate the pastures for the holidays! read more

The first time I came by, it was on opening day and everything was completely cleaned out. The line to order the hot food or drinks also didn't seem worth it, so I decided to come back another day. Fast forward to my next visit, the line was once again long but it was continuously moving, which was good. The food displays were stocked this time, but there's really only one type of pastry, a cream bread, that comes in different flavors. I really wanted to try the rose tteok-bokki which is served in a bread bowl. Carbs upon carbs I know. The bowl took only a few minutes to come out and there were plenty of open seating available for us to grab a table. The tteok-bokki itself was well cooked - a chewy, dense rice roll. The rose sauce was creamy and spicy and paired really well with the tteok-bokki. However, the bread bowl was a huge disappointment. The bread tasted stale and was super bland and dry. Even dipping it into the sauce didn't help it much. We tossed pretty much the entire thing after we finished the stuff inside. $16 for this dish was not worth it. read more

Located inside Jagalchi at Serramonte Center, you're lucky if there are items available. Been twice (6P on opening day and 10a the following) and basically everything was sold out. The only the left out on Sat were a few Levain cookies and sulpang. If you are willing to wait, there were bulgogi sandwiches, Dubai chocolate bars and cakes inside the cold cases. I saw things backing in the back so hopefully they restock shelves quickly. A lot of the K-beverages were sold out. I managed to order the Su Jeong Gwa latte w/oat milk (which basically is a Korean horchata) but was unable to order the tteokbokki in a rice flour bread bowl since it was for dine-in only. I really enjoyed my drink since I love horchata. Also, I was glad I managed to grab a couple of Levain cookies: a chocolate and a matcha w/ white chocolate. Levain cookies taste better warmed up so I suggest trying them nuked for about 15secs instead of room temp. Note: If you're in South Bay, it's the same bakery inside Mega Mart. read more

Waited early in line this morning (Sunday). I purchased the Sujeonggwa Latte, Cranberry sliced loaf bread, matcha spread, Strawberry sulpang, Injeolmi custard sulpang, slice sweet potato cake, slice chocolate cake and a round Campagne bread. The sulpang's rice cake texture is soft. It is recommended to heat 20 seconds to enjoy. I heat it in the microwave. The cream on top totally melted. The filling itself and rice cake wasn't sweet. It tasted fresh and soft. I enjoyed the Sujeonggwa Latte with slight cinnamon taste. I also had the chocolate cake slice and it didn't taste fresh. Too dry. I couldn't finish it due to the dry texture. I was told the sweet potato cake wasn't too bad. Moist and creamy. Staffs were nice and friendly, but they did not restock the trays and tongs fast enough. They do not have a lot of baked goods out. I only saw the two flavor sulpangs, bread, madeleines and a few cake slices. The clerk who assisted me was nice but she packed my plastic wrapped loaf of bread in the same bag with the unwrapped exposed Campagne bread just on top of it without anything wrapping it. If I had known, I would grab another wax paper just to wrap the bread itself. There were too many customers forming a long line wrapping around the bakery entrance so other customers forced their way into the bakery wherever they like. Some even push their carts in when there are signs that say carts are not allowed inside the bakery. Only paid food items are allowed to dine inside. read more

This Korean bakery and coffee shop inside the supermarket has such cute décor, tons of seating, and a laid-back vibe. There were lots of students studying, which added to the chill atmosphere. You can grab pastries from the display or order at the counter, and everything looked freshly made. The pastries weren't overly sweet--which is common in Asian bakeries--but nothing really stood out flavor-wise. We didn't get to try the drinks this time, so I'd come back for those, but I'm not sure I'd get the pastries again. Service was fine, and overall it's a unique concept in a great location. read more

This bakery is located inside of the new Jagalchi market. They have plenty of seating but it's pretty crowded so you'll have to scout for a table! They also don't let you bring your carts in, so if you don't want to worry about yours then I'd stop into the bakery first before going shopping. It seems like 'rice' is the theme of the bakery. They have several flavors of their signature item called sulbang. They looked like cute little cakes, and I picked the matcha black sesame and the dubai chocolate flavors. Unfortunately they were very dry and I just couldn't finish them! I had hoped the cream inside would help but I just wasn't a fan of the texture of the bread itself. The matcha cream was a highlight of the matcha black sesame flavor, but not enough to buy it again. I also had a matcha white chocolate chip cookie, which also tasted very crumbly and dry. Everything was so pretty here but overall a bit disappointing. I did like their drink options though. We had a sikhye and a dalgona einspanner. If I came back I'd want to try their signature tteokbokki bread bowl! We had a lot of food already from inside the market so I didn't want to order the bread bowl, but if I had to come back I'd skip the desserts and go for that. read more
