The hopia ube is to die for, imagine a super flaky light and airy crust filled with rich creamy ube, not too sweet but well balanced. The pandesal was airy and refined. Love this little bakery in the neighborhood! It always brings back memories of home -- their pandesal is the closest I've found to what we had in the Philippines. I've been coming here for years, and one of my favorite things is picking up a batch of fresh, hot pandesal in the morning. However, this morning's visit was disappointing. I'm not sure why they served the pandesal like this, but when we got home to open the bag, the pandesal we got was flat and crunched up. So much so that it was hard to open and add butter. It lacked the usual fluffy inside and slightly crisp top that I've come to expect. My son and I even woke up early at 7 AM just to get it fresh, so it was disheartening to see such a change. Came to take some desserts to go. Not familiar with Filipino desserts, but was glad to be educated lol. I personally really like ube, so I am happy to try so many new desserts, 3 of which were ube flavored! Would get again. All my friends thought it was a unique set of desserts as well. I saw on Yelp that they sell croffin (croissant muffin) and I had to try it. I got there in the AM but they only had one left. So I got the last one along with a half dozen señorita bread (wasn't warm and fresh), a beef empanada (cold), and babinka. The croffin was really good! I just wish they had more. Baked goods here were good and the customer service was awesome. Stayed in Daly City for a week and saw they had ube crossaints. When I had gone in to get some, they were all out. But the worker that was working that day said he would make some more and would call me when they were ready. I had placed an order for half a dozen and left. He had called a few hours later and I went back to pick up the order. The ube crossaints were really good. They were baked to perfection, soft yet crispy and sweet but not overly sweet. I wish we had these in San Diego! Customer service and the baked goods were excellent. I'll definitely keep coming back when I am in the air. The empanada was average. Red Ribbon's is better. The guava and cheese rolls are good, but not Porto's good. The lady behind the counter was not very friendly, almost like she didn't want to be there on a Saturday morning. The inside could use a fresh coat of paint, top-to- bottom regular cleaning, and the bakery items organized and displayed better. Make the pastries more enticing. This is not hard. I've always known Bread Basket pandesal was good because I've bought them from grocery stores before. But today, my husband and I decided to stop by their store to get some freshly baked pandesal and it was even better! It was soft and fluffy just like how I want it. I don't remember ever getting excited about eating pandesal except for today. We also got Macapuno Ube Ensaymada, Ube Pandesal and Ube Loaf. I love everything ube that's why. =) Honestly, their baked goods reminded me of the times when I was growing up in the Philippines. It was that good! Was recommended here by two Elite yelpers, and add me to that list if you're unsure. It's a Filipino bakery and therefore different than average with more sweet - think tropical - and savory items. Good for quick snacks or grab-and-go in the morning. The pan de sal is slightly different compared to the normal dinner rolls - it's true you will need to warm it up so it gets crispier (the inside broke apart when I tried spreading butter on). Small bakery to buy and leave (not to sit or hang around). The ladies did not say anything so I spoke first (because not a regular?). Note street parking is plentiful but "turn your wheel or you will get a ticket" due to a slight sloping section of El Camino Real here! read more

This morning, I had sudden hankering for a delicious butter croissant, and since I was in the South City/Colma area, I looked to Yelp for a nearby bakery, which led me to here. Bread Basket is a local, Filipino bread shop that sells bread loaves and other baked goods. Bought their butter croissant and ube croissant (ordered an almond too, but that fell out of the bag and on the floor); I can do without the ube as the filling made the croissant feel dense. Bread Basket's pan de leche was my childhood after-school snack. Sliced down the top, spread margarine (we ate margarine back then because it was supposed to be better) and if no one was looking, a sprinkling of sugar and toasted in the toaster oven face up. Sometimes my Mom would leave two connected slice it horizontally and fill it with corned beef or cheese or peanut butter (if you ever have a chance to try native Filipino peanut butter please do so it's a little sweet, peanuts taste different). Happy they sell it at local Targets. But if you go inside and go early in the morning you can ask if they have hot pandesal and don't give it to you in a paper bag. I eat two in my car! PAN DE SAL IS GOOD! This is a Filipino Bread (dinner roll). I was told that this place have been here forever especially with the locals who lives in Daly City! This is their ritual place to buy the best Pan De Sal bread in town. I would have to say it is better heated from a toaster oven than eating it cold. Maybe you will be lucky enough to go there when they have a fresh batch steaming hot fresh from their oven. They do sell other varieties of breads but I only came for their famous Pan De Sal. I've seen their bakery goods in Asian grocery stores and bought their pan de leche before in the stores. When I saw their small bakery in person, I had to try it for their freshly baked goods. I've had their pineapple bread that tastes like sweet bread with some pineapple drizzled inside. Also tried their brownie which was tasty, and the bibinka that was moist. First, the Pandesal is delicious! Been going here since I was a child and the bread is so fresh and tasty. It's our "Go To" place for Pandesal. But what stands out is their PHENOMENAL Customer SERVICE! They truly CARE for their customers! With this current COVID 19 crisis, my parents are unable to leave the house and pick up bread. I live outside the Bay Area and used Postmates to pick and deliver for the first time. Big mistake. Postmates set it up for pick up, not delivery. I called and spoke with the owners Leeza and Jeff who were very helpful. They said they would look into it and call me back. They assured me that they would do everything to make sure my parents got their order. They both called me to update me on the status. They worked with Postmates, corrected the order and called me again when Postmates picked up the order to let me know it was on the way. I couldn't wait anymore to write this review. I know this is a popular spot that folks have been going to since it's convenient and they do have good bread especially their pan de sal. However, they fail to follow rule no. 1. Don't serve old food! I'm extremely disappointed! Yesterday, a client brought some pastries and siopao (steamed bun) from them. I wanted to eat the siopao since it was still warm. I opened the bag of chicken siopao and had this unpleasant smile. I thought hmm, maybe coz it was tightly sealed. I took a bite of it and immediately warned my co-worker who just ate a whole pork siopao and I went spit the food into the garbage can, got a glass of water to rinse my mouth. It was extremely gross to eat rotten siopao. I took a look at it and the unpleasant smell was there and the meat and egg inside didn't look fresh at all. I warned everyone about it and informed our client to report this to the bakery. My co-worker was worried because he ate a whole thing. Apparently, he's a guy who just puts everything in his mouth and never know what is spoiled and what's not. He's at work today, but suffering from it. He said that he's been having stomach pain since last night and has been in and out of the bathroom. I don't know if serving old food is just a one-time event or a regular practice for them. I tried their chocolate chip cookies and its really fails to deliver. It was basically recycled bread flour with choco chips mixed in. Also much of the stuff aren't so appealing. My favorite things to buy here are the Ensemada bread and mini pan de sal. If you've never tried hot baked fresh pandesal stuffed with Mango, Coconut, or Ube Ice cream (preferrably the quarts from Mitchell's Ice Cream) then you are missing out!
