Just went in to check out some things at the hunting & firearms area. 5 different people working supposedly, but not with anyone at the counter except for one person. No one acknowledged anyone waiting for assistance. In fact, they tried to avoid eye contact. After a half hour, all of a sudden all but one person had left the counter and it took continuous staring on our part to finally be asked if we needed assistance. Of course, after all this complete lack of customer service to discover the item listed on the website for this store was not available and hadn't been for months. We won't be purchasing from here anytime soon, if ever. read more

I have a 2000 Bass Cat Pantera Classic. This boat is 26yrs old. Ihave been having trouble finding a shop that has a computer to check the engine performance and run hours. I called Bass Pro Shop in Manteca and spoke to someone in the boat repair shop. He informed me that one of the Technicians had the computer to check out my 200HP Optimax. I was excited to hear that. I let him know that I had been to (2) other shops and nobody had one. Long story short I was pleased with the Service Manger Lucien and he assured me they could get to the bottom of my rough idle and stall out issures. He found (2) spark plug wires that he said had high resistance and (2) fouled spark plugs. The research I did on my own was pointing towards possible bad reeds. I explained this to him. He replaced the spark plugs (all) and the spark plug wires too. He said this made a big improvement but it still ran a little rough. I bought Chris Carson Reeds and shipped them to him to replace the old ones. He said the Tech found (4) broken Reeds. He replaced them and told me it was running great. I asked if I could see it run he said sure. I gave Bass Pro Shop 24 hr advance notice that I was coming and a woman answered the phone and said she would have the tech run the engine for me. Lucien assured me the boat would be cleaned up as best he could due to the rain and it would be ready for me to inspect. When I arrived I found the trailer hitch pin broken, the boat dirty and wet, the batteries dead (so I did not see it run) the Cowling cover loose, I was not a very happy camper. Also, in the report she apologized that they were not able to hook up the computer to the engine for diagnostics. Lucien told me they did hook it up and I had 800 hrs on the engine. I wish they would get the stories straight. To top it off the Tech that supposedly did the repairs was on vacation. This is not a very professional output for me as a customer. read more

brought my pontoon boat in for a complete service on 3/28/25 and picked it up the following day. I don't remember the gals name nor the guys name that helped my wife & I but he lived in La grange & she lived in Oakdale. I assumed the ran the service dept. We came in looking for a hunting knife. The gentleman that helped us was very nice however the whole time we were in the establishment of the looks could cut glass. We stopped at the bathroom first please check in on the women's restroom it had paper on the floor and unflushed toilets we took the elevator up and the whole time we were asking questions etc the looks were awful. I felt very uncomfortable no one should feel like that when we are paying customers. read more

How have I not posted reviews of Bass Pro until now? This place is a Must stop if you're driving through. Whenever we have family in town it's a go-to place for entertainment (and spending) for all ages. The ambience alone is worth the stop! Everything both inside and out is decked out to make you feel like you're at an amusement park. Between the huge fish, waterfalls you can walk under, taxidermy animals.... There's so much to take in. Our most recent stop was for my brother in law to get a new carharrt vest for work. Of course we browsed every other department while we were there too. Work apparel, fishing gear, camping, archery or ammo, pet supplies, home goods... they have it all. Definitely recommend stopping in when you're in Manteca! read more

If you are an outdoorsy person... then this store is like Disneyland to you! All Bass Pro shops are massive, but so far this is the biggest one I've set foot in (and I've only been to 2 locations!) This one is located in between Tracy and Modesto and off highway 120 and the last exit before the highway 99 split if going to Sacramento or Modesto. You walk in and are immediately greeted by an employee as you take in and bask in all the wonders that is outdoor life! From huge massive animals, to an indoor pond with fish, to boats and toys and clothes. During the holidays, they have Santa and it gets extremely packed with some amazing deals! Unfortunately, this location closed its fudge factory and no longer has the deliciousness of fudge. My fambam loves this store and we come during the holidays especially to see (aka get) all the deals and try to get our free photo with Santa... if I remember correctly they do try and up sell more pics but you automatically get one for free. Great souvenir keepsake. With every outdoor activity. This place has it. The line goes pretty quickly and is efficient with the cashiers. The line sometimes wraps around the store, but no one is rarely discouraged from that... if you have an hour or two to spare, you can walk throughout the downstairs and upstairs of this location and still might not have enough time to venture in all of what this store has to offer. read more

My boyfriend and I made a special trip out here specifically to check out Bass Pro Shops JUST to say we've been to a Bass Pro Shop. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but right when we entered the store, I felt like I was entering a cozy cabin up in the mountains. This store is gorgeous and massive! There's two stories of outdoor adventure goodies ranging from fishing to archery and ammo. I was even shocked to see a small corner of gifts and goodies (coffee, snacks, etc.). There's a great selection of clothing and shoes, and they even have a decent variety of BBQ grills. I'm glad that we decided to check out this store and to finally say we've been to a Bass Pro Shop. We had to buy some of their affordable apparel to prove it! This place was definitely worth checking out! read more

BPS boat shop crew was hands down awesome. First time out with a new tracker, the motor would not start at idle after 20 minutes on the water. Call the shop, they got me in for a service 2 hours later. They Hooked the computer up and figured out the problem. Good to hear the motor purr again. read more

Incompetent workers horrible customer service or more like the lack of brain cells from Susan. This is towards the gun release department. It should not take 3 hours to release a gun with 3 people ahead. She helped another guy and was done ask who the next person is and said someone will be right with u. Proceeded to help the next person after us. Will not ever purchase a gun at this location ever again. The place is over all nice and big but will not ever come back horrible. I also called before hand to make sure if they were busy or not but why am I not surprised that NO ONE PICKED UP. I called 3 times 3 different departments not a single one picked up. read more

Not your father's Cabela's. Decades ago Cabela's was a reseller of outdoor gear. The selection was good, the quality was stellar. The Cabela's branded outdoor gear wore like iron and performed. The Bass Pro/Cabela's is now full of race to the bottom, impulse buy junk. The service is marginal. The push is toward credit cards and club member discounts which seem to only really apply to low-end Bass Pro knock-off products. The result is the companies that innovate and actually move gear forward are passed over. They receive lower billing in the Bass Pro marketing than the impulse buy cheap garbage Bass Pro shills. I'm moving away from supporting these mega outdoor stores and putting my dollars into local gear shops. If you really want to go to a chain I'd go to Scheel's. Scheel's is clearly executing toward offering higher end product. The staff seems knowledgeable and their store branded product clearly comes from the same manufacturer's as the name brands. That said, again I'd choose small gear shops with local pros and invest in the community. Bass Pro is pushing junk and Americans should stop funding turning meaningful experiences into a race to the bottom. We love this place! It's a great family store with lots of things to do for kids and adults. It has special events for the family. On Father's Day Weekend they had a Fish for Bass event for children. They had really friendly folks working the event and helping the kids catch the Bass so you could get a picture with it. The high school kids and young men helping the kids fish were so helpful with making sure all kids got a fish. Then your kid was given a certificate for catching a fish. Child had a blast! Inside the store they have an aquarium with various types of fish and also a waterfall with stairs behind it where you can walk to the second floor. Around the store they have taxidermied animals like bucks and bears. There is ample space for pushing strollers around. The best part is they have a shooting range like the ones at Disneyland but it's only 50 cents and you get around 25 shots! You can shoot at a tree and watch the bear climb it for making the shot and various other fun effects for making a shot. Warning: As others mentioned there is a timeshare sales booth near the aquarium. My husband didn't warn me and I thought it was a simple "enter a drawing" and got sucked in to a sales pitch for a good 15 minutes because they do a good job of never once mentioning time share. read more

We usually always have a pleasant experience with Bass Pro Shop, but our trip today wasn't so pleasant. As soon as we walked in two employees had a booth opened while offering free gifts and stating that if you apply for a credit card then you will receive some free items and $20 off a purchase. I happily applied......Well....we bought some items in the store and I get up to the register and I tell the cashier that I applied for the credit card and here are my free items to prove that I did and the cashier was confused so he went to get someone to help us and the man who came to help was extremely rude. Asked me if I went to another booth to get my $20 off card and I explained to him that the people at the original booth never said that we had to go to another booth to get the $20 off purchase. Instead he sat and argued with me and threw my things in a bag and basically called me a liar. That someone did tell me. I'm sorry sir, but you're dead wrong!!! If I knew that I had to go to another booth to get $20 off my in store purchase then I would have gladly done that. I went to the Manteca Bass Pro Shops to purchase a firearm but the Hunting department would not match the price on Brownells. Bass Pro states they will match online prices from qualifying websites, which Brownells is, but will not match a "flash sale" price. Well, what is considered a "flash sale"? The firearm has been on sale for the same price at Brownells for several weeks now so I wouldn't consider it a "flash" sale??? Anyways, save yourself the time and contact your local gun shop/FFL. Chances are, they can do better than the prices at Bass Pro and online, plus you'll be out of there in a few minutes compared to the HOURS you'll spend waiting at Bass Pro. That's what I did and I was able to get the firearm I was looking to buy at Bass Pro cheaper than the price I was trying to get them to match. The customer service at this Bass Pro hunting department sucks and you'll spend the entire day, mostly waiting, to purchase a firearm. The only exception is Kenneth, he was great and provided me with excellent customer service! read more

Large, two stories with an aquarium and outside stream. Ample parking and also several food options in the same complex (we got take away at Red Robin). They had a large selection of women's and men's clothing and shoes. And lots of fishing, hunting and camping supplies. They even had a large "fudge shop" that looked like it had lots of treats to offer (but we didn't go inside). The bathrooms were clean and well stocked. I'm giving this store 3 stars because, while they have a large inventory, the shoes and camping section were in complete disarray and it was exceedingly difficult to find desired items in different sizes etc. The staff were very few and far between and when we did finally get one to help, she let us know that a lot of their shoes on display are all located in the back, so you're forced to rely upon the scarce staff. CHECK YOUR BOX BEFORE LEAVING!!!!!! I've been standing waiting at the gun counter for an hour to just LOOK at the RMR sight I want to buy. I have the money in points on my BASS PRO credit card. I got here at 10am when they opened. It's not busy at all. Only 5 other customers when I got here. Dale has asked me if I'm on the list to be spoken to 4 separate time in the first 30 minutes. Yes Dale I'm on the list and I'm sick of the "dad jokes" could you help me instead of subjecting all of us to your BS. I have never in my life seen a poorer run department. And .... They have a rope line set up so I can't even "window shop" while I'm waiting. Once I redeem my points I'm cutting up my card. Edit - I cannot believe this!!!!! Somehow, buried in the back they actually had the model RMR I was looking for. I buy it. When I get home and open the box it's empty!!! The guy rang me up for the display model not the one I wanted and bagged up an empty box! Now I'm supposed to drive an hour back to the store to maybe get the one I wanted that they screwed up on!! I called the store for over 2 hours and not once did anyone from any department answer the phone. I call the corporate number and am getting this resolved. And to think these people sell guns?!?! This store is large and caters to a wide variety of things related to outdoor adventures. I visited specifically for the Archery section, and to try out the archery range here during my time in Manteca. I called ahead to make sure that the indoor range is open. It seems the range was closed for a long time during the pandemic but reopened recently. It costs $8 per 1/2 hour, and one needs to bring their own equipment. The range goes up to 20 yds with markings for 15 yds and 10 yds available. With the alignment of some items on the wall and the markings, it was easy to figure out 12.5 yds and 17.5 yds as well. The targets given are your usual practice targets (blue and white circle). So I practiced for a bit in the range, which was fun and made for a more eventful time in the shop and in the town. As to the archery shop itself, it was mostly geared towards hunting, with an emphasis on compound bows. No surprises there. Each department of the store is fairly large and has a lot to offer, but we walked by most. We did stop by the aquarium which had fish borrowed from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and saw the cool fish there. One of the fish was a sturgeon which is what caviar comes from! Typical large outdoorsy store. Archery section isn't too impressive as it's mostly geared towards hunting (as expected). Every section has a good supply of "stuff", the aquarium is pretty cool...kinda makes you feel like your waiting in a line at Disneyland as you go under the rock formation. Every year for Father's Day I get my pops a $100 gc and he is always finding what he needs (hunting/fishing) so that's a plus. Overall the store is nice but nothing compared to a Cabellas store! I went to Bass Pro today to buy some ammo. The gentleman behind the counter asked me if my middle name stood for anything and I said yes, and then he told me I had to bring in a birth certificate, even though I have a real ID when I asked him how come we just can't type it in he said it was against the law without having my birth certificate present, even though every other FFL in the area types it in also not to mention that I'm currently also a COE which there is a specific category for them to be able to select give them my number for the COE and it automatically passes me for a background check now I got no problem if it's store policy or company policy, but do not lie to my face and said it's the law because that is a load of BS. On top of that, asked my wife if she could buy the ammo and they said no cause it was a straw purchase now them refusing to do the background check or even acknowledge the background check on top of the fact that both me and my wife are firearm owners and compete in Glock matches and I've purchased firearms from other FFL's Also kind of rubbed me the wrong way while I understand that in certain circumstances, yes that can be considered a straw purchase neither one of us I've ever been denied for guns or ammo. Overall, I'm not happy with the experience. Definitely got treated as if I was a bad guy. My wife thought they were racially profiling me but I told her no it's their stupid store policy., you got people behind the gun counter that are not gun people are just clerks that don't know the law. Please do not lie to your customers and tell them it's the law when it's just your store policy. This is the kind of BS why I hate going to big box store and prefer to support smaller chains or Mom and pop shops. read more

Ahhh, Bass Pro Shops. Every red-blooded American who loves the outdoors needs to visit a Bass Pro Shop. The Manteca store is well suited for all of your outdoor needs. The store looks to be primarily set up for fishing as there is a bigger selection of fishing gear than other locations. Still, hunting, men and women's outdoor clothing, camping supplies, and footwear selections were excellent. The decor and taxidermy displays were the usual Bass Pro Shops uniqueness for that area of the state. There is no restaurant at this location. Bass Pro Stores are amazing and this one would of garnered a fifth star, but the cashier that checked me out didn't seem to be having a good day and a few of the other staff did not look like happy campers. Reminder to all the staff out there.... customer service goes a long way to the stores bottom line. read more

Our go to for pictures with Santa! New reservation system requires you to stay up after midnight to book an appt a week away. They go fast! I forgot one day and logged on 10 mins late and everything was gone. Store is super clean and easy to navigate to visit Santa. What can you say, it's Bass Pro Shop. The only thing better is prolly Cabela's. But since one bought the other they are close to the same. Why do anywhere else when you can get everything you need here from camping, fishing, hunting, clothes, etc. I have had a Cabela's credit card for years and years and I keep accumulating points so when they joined forces (Cabela's and Bass Pro) Cabela's points are usable here. When they first opened some of the fishing gear was not dialed in for the delta and Sierra streams but they listened and fixed it quickly. They also have a great return policy. If you by online you can return at the store. No hassels. It's very convenient they are so close for in store shopping. Prior to them coming to Manteca I would hit Cabela's across the Nevada border or in Texas. Online is OK but sometimes you just have to go there. Even is you aren't ready to buy the fish tank is worth the visit. read more

In general I try to support local gun stores but I do shop from time to time at Bass pro. I have purchased ammunition, clothing, and other outdoor supplies from them over the years. I know that I have purchased at least one firearm from them in the past and possibly a second one but I cannot remember for sure on the second one. The folks at the gun counter have been fairly knowledgeable and very friendly. Their prices on firearms and ammunition are fairly reasonable as well as many other sporting goods type items. I find their non-sale clothing prices to be a little high overall. In the past they have had outstanding Black Friday deals. I usually go and buy their store brand jeans for $10 a piece on Black Friday. They are nothing special style wise but make great work jeans and hold up better than Levi's or sub of the other name brand options. It is a great place to take your kids. There are mounted animals throughout the store for them to look at, a pond with trout in it, and a large fish tank where they can watch the fish. They do have some pushy salesmen trying to sell trips standing by the fish tank but they will back off if you tell them you are not interested. I cannot think of negative experiences I have had at the store. read more
