In reading recent reviews, I'm surprised there are so many negative ones. So I'm feeling compelled to write my own . I just had a wonderful experience at Basta Pasta. 3 of us arrived around 6:00 on a Thursday . Weather was perfect for outdoor dining. Even though it was busy, seating was quick because there was indoor, outdoor, and cabana seating. Service was very attentive and food was excellent. I had the Cashew Pesto Pasta- it was delicious and not only was the overall proportion huge but they were very generous with the amount of grilled shrimp in it. My boyfriend had the manicotti with meatballs and it was delicious. The cheese blend in the manicotti was amazing. My adult son had the gnocchi di ricotta - excellent as well. And of course their signature garlic knot rolls which they refilled for us. We very rarely get dessert but we decided to split an Affogato- ice cream with hot espresso poured over it and topped with bits of chocolate shavings . It was decadent without being too sweet or filling. Very similar to a virgin espresso martini. And there was a solo guitarist playing in the background. Nothing could had been better. read more

Came here for lunch and it was great. Service was very friendly and attentive, and the food was good. We received complimentary garlic knots with olive oil and they were so good. It was hard not to get full on them before our meals. I got the chicken pesto panini and it was good. Big portion, chicken cooked well, and the pasta salad on the side was great. I tried a bite of the cheesesteak and it was also very good, super cheesy and good bread. Restaurant itself is very cute and spacious, and I would love to come back to try the cabana bar. read more

I ordered the Margherita pizza, and there were no tomatoes and only a tiny amount of basil. On top of that, it was extremely salty -- so salty that I could barely eat it. The location is ideal in the heart of Skippack and the name is just too cute. However once you get inside do not look too closely at the decorations or the tops of the booths. They all have a thick layer of dust on them (we noticed after we ate). The buffalo chicken pizza was delicious however the lobster pasta left my stomach feeing nauseous. read more

We came for Mothers Day as a group of 6. The restaurant is pretty big and they do have cute outdoor seating that gives picnic vibes. They often have a band playing at the bar so it was nice to enjoy the weather and listen to the music. The garlic knots have a good texture. They come out warm, the outside is crispy and the inside is nice and soft. However, I didn't think it had much garlic flavor. I got the sausage orecchiette. The noodles were al dente and I felt that the toppings of broccolini, tomatos, and sausage paired well. I would have preferred if the sausage was more thinly sliced or ground rather than sliced so it was easier to eat. The sauce is also very thin and watery. Overall, it was a light pasta dish that was not special at all. The portions are generous though and we had leftovers. Interestingly, it tasted better on reheat. They have nice outdoor seating that is covered in a prime location right in Skippack. Those are the highlights. Service was friendly but not very attentive. We had the Pasta Bolognese and Pasta Florentine w/ grilled chicken added...both awful. The Bolognese was basically ground beef with a can of tomato sauce and diced tomatoes dumped on it and a sprinkle of basil. Flavorless and watery. The Florentine is supposed to come with roasted garlic white wine sauce. What we got was melted butter and water with a hint of garlic. Watery and flavorless. The "grilled chicken" add-on wasn't grilled...it had the appearance and lack of flavor you would get from boiled chicken. We are local, so we wanted to like this place. I ordered the Caesar salad, calamari, gnocchi and veal cacciatore. The salad was good! The calamari could have used a little more salt. The gnocchi was delicioush'!!! The sauce was so good. Veal Marsala was awful, chewy and not tender, nearly shit myself on the drive home. Having diaherria as I am writing this review. Do NOT order it! $25 worth of diaherria. Service was decent though but the food and richy rich customers were not great at all. Bunch of stuck up people going to a mediocre restaurant. 2 out of 5 stars. Also, to add on to this, my 2 year old son now has food poisoning and it took me until now to get him settled. He ate the linguini with meatballs. If I could sue this restaurant I most definitely would. Downgraded to 1 star would give zero if I could. read more

Came here without a reservation last Wednesday night and entered a very quiet restaurant. We were seated very quickly handed menus by a very nice server. The complimentary bread knots also came out quickly and were warm and delicious. We ordered calamari to start and were given a generous portion size and great flavor! The pastas also came out quickly and were piping hot. For the amount of food you receive with your meals, the prices were very fair. The pasta became two additional meals for me and the leftovers were just as good! The Bolognese had a great flavor and I loved how saucy the pasta was in general! The only negative from this experience was that the table was pretty wobbly and very small for us three to sit. When all of our plates were on the table, there was not much room anything else and we had to be careful where placing our drinks. read more

I was visiting the area last year and looking for a spot to meet an old friend. He recommended this place, knowing I love Italian/pasta. We arrived for a late lunch, around 2pm and it was empty, so we had our pick of the tables and opted for the outdoor/porch area- luckily it wasn't too cold outside. Our server was friendly and attentive, brought our menus and water immediately. I went with the penne florentine and a glass of rose while my friend ordered a panini. We both enjoyed our meals and had a great time catching up. The pasta portion was huge so I had leftovers to finish later at the hotel! I have only ever been here for lunch, and I have always sat outside on the patio. I've had pizza, the meatball sandwich, a coupe of the soups, and of course the garlic knots. Came here with my gf on a Saturday night for drinks and apps and to listen to band. The outdoor eating area was packed since it was a beautiful evening. My gf and I shared mussels and salad. You never know what you are going to get from a place like this. Tavern food can either be surprisingly good or really bad. It appears what you order here is not made from scratch but items from a frozen box placed in a microwave or oven like my risotto and crab cakes for instance. $24 for a crab cake and risotto platter. There are no cooks here. Just a kitchen staff to heat processed, bland food. The crab cakes were inedible as was the risotto. Both tasted like the cardboard packing it came in. No flavor. The meat in the crab cakes was the poorest quality meal with a fried coating. The risotto had a weird color swimming in oil. I enjoyed the garnish vegetables on the plate of cauliflower and carrots along with the garlic knots. I had a mixto salad. Greens were nice but the dressing had no flavor. We had to doctor up the dipping olive oil. Pizza was just okay. Crust was not crispy and drooped when you picked it up. Any restaurant whose main dishes are Italian should learn to lead with garlic as the main ingredient yet garlic was lacking in all the dishes. read more

I hadn't been to Basta Pasta for many years, and had lunch there the other day. I'm pleased to say it's just as good as it was back then. I loved sitting outside this time. The service was prompt and courteous. There was a minor issue with my order, but they took care of it without a worry. I'm so glad to go back. Walked in at 9 PM on a Friday and the restaurant door says they close at 11 PM. The staff was running around trying to do their end of night work and ignoring customers. The dishes we got were bland at best and lacked any flavor. The drink I ordered from the bar had things floating in it and when I complained the waitress acted like it was my fault. Don't look too close at anything as the cleanliness of this place is bad. Skippack restaurants were great prior to Covid but now it seems mediocrity is the new norm. The staff spent more time bullshitting at the register than waiting on customers . I overhead them complain people were still eating as they wanted to finish and leave. Hire a manager and bring some flavor back to your food. Let's strive for a B as a minimum. read more

I drive by this restaurant often and see that it is busy. Or at least it seems that way with people filling the tables outside. So I decided to try it. I ordered a large pizza with mozzarella and balsamic vinaigrette, a simple pasta marinara with grilled chicken, and a seafood pasta with shrimp and other ingredients. I was really disappointed. For one, the ingredients are NOT FRESH! the shrimps are frozen, the grilled chicken tasted like it was cooked days ago and reheated, and the pizza was not good! Me and my wife took a couple bites out of the pasta and ended up throwing everything away. I ate a slice of pizza then saved it for the next day. I tried heating it back up and the dough was not edible at that point. It was soggy and he ingredients didn't taste good so I threw it away. We spent almost $100 and did not get any satisfaction eating from this place. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT GOOD ITALIAN FOOD. My wife and I had a very pleasant time at Basta Pasta last night. This was our first time there. I need to point out that we arrived around 7:30 PM on Easter Sunday. Most restaurants in the area were closed for Easter. I should also point out that Basta Pasta closes for dining at 8:00 PM. My point is that they welcomed us with open arms, never made us feel rushed or even let us know that they were closing soon (as many restaurants will do when you arrive just before closing). Steph, our wait person made us feel very welcome and was a joy to interact with. Many items on the menu sparked our interest. We went with the Italian wedding soup, Ceaser salad, and the Linguini con Frutti di Mar. The salad was great. The homemade dressing was just the right amount of everything. The cup of soup was also very good. We were able to get the Frutti di Mar without the spicy sauce and everything in the dish was also very good. In town for a meeting, great food and very family like environment! The chicken saltimbocca was the best we never had a the penne vodka was amazing too! We also tried the side meatball and it was not dry and had so much flavor. Wish I was from the area or near, would definitely come back again. I was shocked wby my own rating. The place was not busy at all but as soon as I walked in I felt a weird vibe. They have all the young high school staff standing and staring, waiting for someone to step up and speak. They don't have a uniform they have to follow so they it seemed a little sloppy. I didn't like the quietness and stares but I got over that. We were greeted by how can I help you? I didn't know how to answer as obv we are here to eat but it just came out weird. Now before anyone gets picky or criticize my review I am only knit picking and know they have potential to be a great place. I do give the staff credit for having a job at such a young age. After finally deciding what to order we were told we are not serving the wraps and paninis on the menu. Not sure why you have it listed then? Not much to chose from but they did make the food fast. I was disappointed in the price as I assumed for $19 it would be a big pizza so they said personal size we can make for you. When the bill came I was confused bc the personal pizzas were $17. I should have gotten the bigger pizza. Like I said very expensive and not priced right for the portion. My pasta was $21, yes it did come with chicken but no sides or anything. I had a pizza craving and stopped here for a bite to eat. The pizza was fantastic and did not disappoint. The Toscano Pizza hit the spot with spinach, tomato and ricotta. I noticed they offer take out but no delivery which is another option. There are pasta choices too as the name implies. I have been here before and ordered a pasta meal. Either option is good eats. The only downside to this restaurant is the on-site parking. It wasn't an issue for me but could be a problem if you visit during a busy time. I did notice alternate parking on the other side of the street if on-site parking is not available. read more

Much improved, will revisit. We had stopped coming here about a year ago as the food was poor and took a long time on a couple of visits. Wine list had poor quality selections. Today we went during Skippack days as we wanted to sit outside. Band was playing and place had a lively vibe. Greeter Kieran was awkward and unsmiling, made us think we may have made a bad choice. Tom the server improved the experience quickly. Timely service and food. A great pork sandwich with fries, delicious crab panini with an excellent pasta salad. Wine listings is still a little uninspired but we found a good organic Barbara that will pair with most of the menu. Applaud the wine improvement but you can still do better.
