I have been here a few times and believe this place warrants some praise. Being a vegan, there aren't a lot of options for desserts on the fly unless you bake them yourself. I stop in when I have a burning desire for something sweet and cruelty free and Batch never disappoints! I usually get one of each of the vegan cupcakes and the are always amazing. Today I took home a chocolate mint, very vanilla and a double strawberry.. Oh my Besides the awesome sweets the folks here are always nice and so is the vibe. They have an unfortunate habit of substituting whatever they want if something you order is not available. Wish I could comment on the food, I went to the location in the Reno Public Market with my two girls, walked up to the counter where there were 2 ladies. We stood that for a few seconds uncomfortably while their backs were turned to us, they saw the three of us standing in there but just didn't acknowledge our existence. Finally I just asked if they sell cupcakes, one says "no, not here",while the other lady walks away. So we choose something else from the selection they have in the front. "Can I get this whoopie pie?" I asked, and she responded "No we can't take payments now because of the internet." I said I could pay cash, and she says we can't pay with cash either. Why not say that when we initially walked up? It didn't help that she looked annoyed that we were there at all. All this information could've been relayed before we stood there awkwardly for so long looking at the baked goods and deciding. Updated review... WOW! I hadn't been to Batch in over a year. I stopped to purchase a cupcake for a special treat for my friend and I, they didn't impress me today. Which is sad, because I use to love them. None of the chalkboard tables were clean: they all were scribbled on and had food crumbs on them. I came in when no one was sitting down or getting up, so I sorta feel that they really had no excuse for dirty tables (clean them up after each customer please). The complimentary water was lukewarm and the table it was on was dirty and un-organized. While Batch does offer a great selection of cupcakes with buttercream icing (very important to me, since I can't eat cream cheese); the cupcake I had (the Pucker Up) was low on the lemon filling and the actual cupcake was just overly sweet (it was like they used 1 cup too much of sugar in the cupcake batter). It just tasted sweet, with no other flavors and clearly not enough lemon. For the cost of a cupcake here, I expect much more than what they delivered. If I wanted a pure sugary taste I could of dissolved sugar into water and drank it straight. The woman at the counter was friendly, but her service wasn't anything special. I like the fact they still offer a punchcard. I also appreciate that they offer vegan and paleo treats. Just stopped by here to try out the paleo cupcakes. I was blown away! First of all, I have never had paleo baked goods and second of all, I don't have much of a sweet tooth. We got the chocolate paleo cupcake, the pumpkin banana cupcake, paleo cookies and a paleo bar. The chocolate paleo cupcake was a little dry but it still had pretty good flavor. The pumpkin banana cupcake was by far my favorite. The paleo bar was pretty good (they keep them in the fridge so you have to ask for it) and you can definitely taste the coconut. I'm saving the cookies for later. I don't really get the negative reviews posted so far. If you're getting a specialty cupcake like gluten free or paleo, you can't expect it to taste like the original (although the pumpkin banana comes close in my opinion). And this isn't your local supermarket so the cupcakes might be more expensive than what you're used to... Lastly, the service here is super friendly. I will definitely be returning. read more

I've been here several times and each experience has been alright, a little disorganized but not bad. But this last experience was pretty frustrating. I came in a picked out 5 cupcakes out of their main display. The young man rang me up and gave me my total ($25.56), I paid and walked out. Then I though that it seemed a bit higher than I expected, especially for 5 cupcakes. So I decided to go back in a check. I confirmed that the individual cupcakes cost $3.50 each and 6 are $19. The young man looked a bit puzzled and checked the register and said that they cost $5 each. I asked if I chose cupcakes that were more expensive somehow and he said no, they just cost $5 each and that's what he charged me for. I was trying not to be rude but I pointed to the very large sign above the case that shows clearly that they cost $3.50 each which would indicate my total should have been $17.50 plus tax. He didn't really have an explanation and I decided not to push the matter any further with him. I then decided just to send a private Facebook message to Batch simply asking what the cost of their cupcakes were and breezily describing what happened earlier that day. I still have not received a response from them, this was 6 days ago. Less than $10 not a terribly HUGE deal but it is frustrating to have no explanation as to why the cost was different from the posted price. Additionally, if they have increased their prices, their staff should know about it and the sign needs to be changed. Aside from just wanting to be charged the correct amount for the product i'm purchasing. Pretty simple stuff related to running a business. I purchased eight different kinds of cupcakes for an office birthday party. Each one was so dry and crumbly I had to throw them away! I was told the cupcakes were made the previous night at the same place I bought them. I called and asked for the manager to issue me a refund of $30. Cupcakes. One word that could make almost anyone smile. Dropped by this cupcakery after eating at a joint next door. We were intrigued by the gluten free and paleo items. When we walked in, it felt a little odd as the lady who worked there had a stare that made me think I must've had something on my nose. Quite uncomfortable but we went with it. She did get through the basic service questions and we got our cupcakes. We picked up a vanilla cupcake and an apple cinnamon one. So far, we have tried the apple cinnamon. It was soft and moist, great texture. My only complaint was the frosting. Holy cow there was a ton of sugar. It made me actually cringe a bit and I proceeded to remove it. You know, I keep giving these guys a chance in hopes that they will improve. They have not. I had to clear my throat loudly to entice someone to come from the back to actually help me. I was in on a Sunday afternoon and while they weren't busy there were hardly any cupcakes to purchase. I was surprised by the lack of variety despite being there with over 3 hours of business hours left until closing. The two cupcakes I purchased were lemon (for the wife), and a chocolate caramel pretzel combo of some sort. Once I paid for them I was anxious to eat mine. I got them home and once we had lunch it was time for dessert. My wife tried hers, one bite was all she took to be done. She said it the icing was too sweet and the cake too dry. I felt the same about my mine. Also, the caramel part in the description was not at all present in my cupcake. It really amounted to overly granulated sugary icing with crushed up pretzel bits on top. The frosting had crusted over so it clearly wasn't fresh. The cake was also dry so it too wasn't fresh. You are a cupcake place, that only makes cupcakes but you can't do that well? Clearly, this just doesn't compute. Next time, I will save myself from these dry cupcakes and make my own. read more

They were good until... If a person calls or complains about their food being raw. The 1st thing you don't do is get defensive with them. Following to be pretty offensive directly after. Especially if the complaining person is being super nice and sorry to even have to call and complain. The response after my letting the person whom answered the phones know that 2 we had tried already were not fully cooked. "Well we made a batch over 500 of those to order and you are the first one to complain, so I find this very hard to believe". Repeated this more than once in a slightly sarcastic tone also. THEN says, well I am so sorry if this actually happened to you. Can you come show me? In a tone as of such "come prove me wrong". So much of this was unnecessary. My jaw dropped at the way the guy handled this over the phone today in regards to a beautiful gift that was a delivery of 12 gluten free cupcakes for my mother/boss being her birthday yesterday. I was appalled as such towards this persons way of handling the situation so much that I handed the phone to her so she could advocate for her own gift (which she shouldn't have to). Only for the same type of treatment. Because of the way it was handled we don't even want the replacement. We don't ever even want to return. We didn't want to say anything but THANK YOU to the purchaser of the lovely gift idea. So simply called the shop feeling bad at first to even have to. Once more this is why I am bummed about the outcome. I have been going here for a couple years and never had such an issue, actually never an issue. I hate writing reviews for locally owned business but this has to be said as this was bad on every level. Apparently Anne (the owner) is the only one allowed of give accurate pricing for custom cakes but then why have a menu board with custom cake prices by size? Anne cannot be reached by phone and will not return calls no matter how many times you try to get a hold of her and the employees just give you the run around. Once we were able to reach Anne via email she quoted our cake at $420 which was different for the same size custom cake pricing on their board in the South Reno location. We decided to go in and talk to someone in person at the South Reno location and upon inquiry the employee questioned our ability to afford their cakes by saying "you know these are organic and really expensive". Upon further inquiry and showing the employee the same picture we sent Anne the employee said it would be $330 like it stated on the menu board, we payed and left. The following day Anne emailed us saying she cannot do the flowers like the ones in the picture we had sent days before. Why wait until we paid to share this information? Why not let us know you cannot do the flowers from day one? We decided to cancel the order and went in again and spoke with Lilly. She called the other location where the order slips are sent and they had no idea where our order slip was. Lilly was the only highlight of dealings with Batch as she was very understanding and reassuring that she would make sure to reach out to Anne and get us the refund. We had an email a few hours later from Anne saying that we were under charged to begin with and it should have been $350 and she can do the flowers for $20 extra on top of that. So Anne, is the cake $420, $350 or $330 like your menu board says? Can you do the flowers or not? Are your going to train some of your employees to not make judgements on if someone can afford the cake or not? How about they do their job and explain the pricing and the process and let the customer decide if they are able to afford the cake or not? Anyways, I would recommend Haven on Earth bakery up the street as the same cake Batch was unsure of how much they want to charge us for was only $210. Picked up a half dozen cupcakes today. They were GOOD. No complaints about the cupcakes. The girl working the counter was super sweet (ha) as well, and very patient with how indecisive I was. This place is a little pricy, but worth it. The cupcakes are so, so good. And some of the flavors are very creative! I just wish they had more vegan options. They tout themselves as being so vegan-friendly, and while having any vegan cupcakes at all is amazing, I want more options! I got this incredible looking caramel pretzel concotion for my roommate and he said it was just as fabulous as it looked, I just want a vegan version of that. That's all I'm asking for, Batch. I was excited to try this bakery for the first time. When you enter it's a pretty tight space, I understand there are covid restrictions so no big deal. The employee working was nice but not very engaging. We bought 6 cupcakes to sample everything, it smelled yummy inside! We asked him what was a popular flavor that everyone seemed to like and he suggested cookie dough, so we got that along with the strawberry shortcake, avalanche, paleo chocolate and the batch. We got a chocolate one and a pumpkin one and both were fantastic, even better than any non-vegan cupcake I've ever had. The frosting was sweet and flavorful, but not overpowering. Guilt-free cupcakes for sure! The shop is pretty small, so it's probably best for pick up, but was surprised by all the options they had. I believe there were 5 different vegan options and about 10 non-vegan options plus some other vegan treats. They also partner with Uber Eats so you can get some cupcakes delivered to you. This place has improved so much better than last year when I was there. I had a choice of several flavors of vegan cupcakes to choose from. Good experience. I would give three stars because the order online for delivery process was kind of ridiculous. I had to make several calls over two days to create my order on Uber Eats. However, each time I called the person I spoke to was friendly. I don't live in Reno but was attempting to get a special delivery to family. The Uber Eats site does not match what they actually have available that day, and the Batch website does not provide any info either. So you have to call to find out what is available each day before placing your order. Then you have to go to the U.E. website, select any cupcake, then make your changes in the notes section. As a vegan, I was so excited to try Batch Cupcakery seeing as they have a few vegan options, and vegan desserts in Reno are few. The cupcakes look so delicious on their website and on Yelp. Sadly, I was so let down after my first visit. I thought they'd have more than 2 vegan options, so I was disappointed to find there were only 2. I bought one vegan cupcake (chai), one vegan gluten-free (strawberry shortcake) and one non-vegan (s'mores) for my husband. The chai cupcake was SO dry and stale-tasting. The gluten-free cupcake was the most moist cupcake out of the bunch, which really surprised me, but it did fall apart. My husband said the s'mores cupcake was very dense, and he didn't like it at all. I didn't finish either cupcake they were so bad. I make much better at home, so why would I spend my money here? Also, the interior layout is really odd. I don't like how there are cupcake cases everywhere. It looks cluttered. For the employee to have to come from behind the counter to retrieve the cupcakes for you is so strange to me. The 1 star is for the service and the cupcake aesthetics. The gentleman who helped me was very friendly, and the cupcakes look pretty. But due to terrible texture and taste, I will not be back, and I do not recommend Batch Cupcakery. If you want to find the best brownies it's right here at Batch! Batch is definitely not what I expected when I first tried their desserts. I'm not huge on cupcakes or sweets in general when it comes down to them being gluten free, vegan, etc but they are actually really good. All their sweets are extremely soft and gooey. It takes a long time for them to go hard. The only dessert I have tried and didn't like was their lemon bar. It wasn't really a bar though. It was a mini loaf like their brownies are. It was terrible. Now, that isn't the reason why I gave them 3 stars. I gave them 3 stars because the staff isn't that friendly and every time I go in to grab a delicious brownie they ignore me until I'm ready to check out. The last time I was in there the boy working didn't acknowledge me and was on his phone which then proceeded to taking a personal phone call on the work phone. He didn't speak a word to me and got upset when I didn't tip him. I love their brownies but every time I go in there I feel really uncomfortable because the workers make you feel like you're bothering them or something. Oh this place is so adorable! We mosey-ed on over after dinner next door to check it out. They've got a ton of cup cakes on display. The hardest part is picking one out. I purchased a cookie dough cupcake which was white cake, cookie dough frosting, and chocolate chips on top. $3.50. It was very good and tasted just like cookie dough. They've got gluten free options, paleo friendly options, and sugar free options too. You can purchase individual cupcakes , half dozen, full dozen, and MORE! Mostly gluten-free ("paleo") and most of that seemed to be vegan as well. I've had decent gluten-free and vegan baked goods before (it is difficult, but possible) and this was not it. I got a vegan/paleo goji berry muffin and it took me literally 2 minutes to extract the muffin wrapper from it. I knew it would be extremely dry, but it was also disgusting; I tried, but failed to eat even half of it. I made a beeline for their water dispenser, but it was horribly undrinkable. It said "infused" but it tasted like mouthwash, as they must have dumped in mint essential oil instead of muddled mint leaves. Their labeling was inconsistent and it was difficult to determine which items were vegan. They did not seem to have any vegan wheat-based cupcakes, but later my sister said they had one kind, which none of us got. My sister disliked her paleo/vegan chocolate cupcake, but it looked better than my muffin. My cousin liked her raw vegan/paleo pumpkin pie, however. The 3 non-vegans with us didn't try anything, so I can't say if their "normal" (wheat & non-vegan) cupcakes are any good. I came in yesterday to buy some cupcakes and other treats for my engagement as the pictures of the baked goods looked amazing. My partner and I stopped in and the girl behind the counter couldn't care less about anything. I asked her what she liked and she shook her head and I asked how the whoopie pies were and she said I don't like chocolate. This girl was not happy and didn't exactly fit what I'd expect at a cupcake shop. We asked for a bag as we got a few things and she was like rolling her eyes and honestly we're not coming back.
