Paleo dairy free cupcakes?! I have died and gone to heaven. I come to Reno fairly often and my first stop is always for the chocolate paleo cupcakes at Batch. If I order 4 to last me a few days I will certainly eat all of them within an hour. They also have pumpkin paleo ones that are super good but I can hardly get over the chocolate ones. read more

Horrible!!! I would give Batch a 1 star but their cupcakes were to tasty to knock them all the way down. I picked this establishment based on their yelp reviews and photos but non of that prepared me for what I received for my wedding reception. I spoke directly to the owner Anne about what I wanted for my wedding based off of a wedding cupcake display on their website, but what I got was pure garbage. The cupcakes were melted the cake looked as if an 8 year old had decorated it and overall it was just UGLY. When I attempted to contact the owner I received no phone call or apology. The young man I talked to on the phone was rude and refused to tell me his name and then the manager said we must have had some type of miscommunication. If you know me, then you know that I LOVE sweets. My friends and I had lunch at a nearby spot and decided to stop by Batch for a little dessert to satisfy our sweet tooth. They had a nice selection of cupcakes on hand and I had some difficulty choosing one. The person at the counter was super friendly and patient with my indecisiveness. She was very helpful, assisted me with finally deciding on the classic red velvet cupcake and carefully placed my sweet treat in my Chinese take out box to enjoy later. The cupcake flavor was good, but it wasn't as moist as I would have liked it to be. It was too dry! When I initially bit into the frosting there was a slight crunch. It made me think the cupcakes had been sitting in the case for longer than they should have been. I've had had better from Batch so I'm hoping this was a fluke. read more

I feel like Reno either has really low standards or I'm going to a twilight zone Batch. And before someone says she must have gone to Mix and got them confused, I'm capable of reading the name on the door and the box. That being said. For a girls night we got several cupcakes, tyoiabe forest, red velvet, chocolate, white and a blueberry one. Every one was chalky and dry. The icing was extremely sweet, and yes maybe I am spoiled in the fact that on the East coast "buttercream" is actually buttercream, made with oh Butter. This is not buttercream it is icing. It was so sweet and the cupcakes so dry the six of them went in the trash and I ended up baking cupcakes complete with boiling sugar for buttercream. Complete waste of nearly 20 bucks. If you're going to do one thing at least do it well. read more

I have never been overly impressed with their cupcakes but they are the only shop in town so we go occasionally. Service has always been on the low end and when you go into the shop, the person behind the counter always acts inconvenienced. The tipping point for me occurred when I decided to use batch to support a local charity event. I ordered 100 cupcakes and paid extra to have them delivered and set up. They called me 2 hours after the scheduled delivery time to say they had the wrong address but she read me the correct address so they just didn't get the job done. They attempted to deliver the cupcakes 3 hours late but the event was over. The cupcakes were going to be a big part of the event and I was counting on Batch to provide the basic service they offered. This place is not managed well and they place little value in the customers experience. I will not be back and hope a new bakery opens up in Reno in the near future. read more

LOVE their paleo cupcakes! Specifically, the chocolate one. The texture is so fantastic and love the icing on top. I stop in to get this as a treat that doesn't make my blood sugar spike. I love cupcakes. OK, maybe I kind of freak out over them, but I was expecting to have a great experience at batch because, let's face it, places that specialize in cupcakes tend to specialize in them for a reason! Upon entering the store and seeing the beautifully presented selection of organic, paleo, and vegan cupcakes, I was convinced that I was about to have my socks rocked off. Well, presentation isn't everything... At $3 a cupcake, I was expecting to eat a rich, flavorful, moist cupcake. Instead, my husband and I agreed that they were bland, unbalanced, and a little dry/crumbly. I was, as any 7 month pregnant woman allowing herself a treat would be, pretty disappointed. The cupcakes we ate were their flagship vanilla cupcake and their lemon cupcake. The lemon cupcake was not even slightly tart. It tasted of slightly bitter lemon rind and lots of sugar. There was no tartness or even the slightest bit of salt to balance the flavors. The vanilla cupcake had no pleasant vanilla aroma; I would say it tasted like pure sugar. They present a beautiful appearing product, but unfortunately the flavor is not up to par. I would prefer my own 30 minute Betty Crocker vanilla cupcakes and homemade buttercream frosting to the Batch cupcakes any day. If they change their recipes, I would be happy to try them again (cupcake fiend that I am). read more

Batch was playing Atmosphere when my fiancé and I walked in, which made him very happy. We ordered four cupcakes, and while they weren't bad, they did not live up to the promise of their descriptions. For example, the Oreo cupcake was a regular chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting and half an Oreo cookie on top. The cookie dough cupcake did not contain or taste of cookie dough. They were a little too sweet, which is pretty unbelievable coming from someone firmly on Team More Frosting Always, but the cakes were moist and the price was about average for Reno. Give Batch a shot and hopefully you'll like them more than me! read more

I was not overly impressed with this place. Walking in the door we were greeted with an invisible "how ya doin". I looked around and didn't see any one. As I approached the counter there was a young man sitting on a chair nose deep in a computer or TV or something. After a moment he got up, asked if we were looking for anything specific and made a few suggestions. We had just eaten breakfast and were looking for a sweet treat to cap off our meal. Being early in the morning I assumed everything would be fresh. Honestly I don't think it was. We ordered two cupcakes vanilla for me and chocolate for her. both were dry and frankly my vanilla cupcake was not sweet at all. The frosting on the other hand was so sugary I had a hard time eating it. The chocolate was slightly better, but the balance of sweet and savory again was off. All in all it was not a great experience, the kid behind the counter did try to help us after a few moments, and the inside was cute and inviting. problem is the main attraction, the cupcakes just weren't that good. we probably wont be returning anytime soon. read more

STALE/DRY & COCKROACH I would think this place would be making items fresh every day or at least the cupcakes. I came one day, it was ok but stale and dry. Came the next day with a friend, same items were on the the shelf/under the glass. Then as we were deciding what we wanted.....guess what I saw.....COCKROACH. Yep that's right. It was crawling on the wall on the left side as you enter. I wonder how many eggs were in the items in the kitchen and racks. We walked out. Sorry cockroaches are a deal killer. Cupcakes are amazing. One of the favorite places to purchase gluten free items. Not super impressed with the workers. This is my 3rd time going in, and every time, workers are rude and not helpful. I walked in, not a " hi" not a "can i help you" they look at you like your bothering them. Didn't say a word. I asked where the gf pastries were, the kid just pointed... still not saying a word. My husband and I had Batch Cupcakery make our cupcakes for our wedding. They were so delicious and an absolute hit among our guests! Our cupcakes were gluten-free but you would never know it. Being vegan, those days where you want a treat and are too lazy to cook, you're limited on where you can go in this town. That being said, That's probably Why I gave this place as many chances as I did, hoping the bad times were a fluke. The service is fine, I'm not a demanding consumer by any means, but it varies from clerk to clerk, usually young college kids and they're friendly enough. However, it's all about the product, and with the price I'd expect at least a decent product. When they win, they win good. Some of their vegan cupcakes are absolutely fantastic, (with the exception of that coconut German cake that looks like vomit and that chocolate lemon monstrosity ). Unfortunately it's not necessarily the cupcakes that are the problem here, it's the business practice the place employs. I was in a bulk phase and stopped by grateful gardens 4 times over the course of two weeks. I stopped by batch every time. The first day they only had one vegan cupcake on the shelf and it was that abhorrent German coconut shaved vomit unappealing one. I passed. I went back to the restaurant two days later... sure enough I walked into batch and I was appalled to see it was the same...the SAME cupcake on the shelf still and no new options. Three days later I went back...you wouldn't believe it. That is almost a week that cupcake sat on the shelf for sale. And I left each time disappointed. The last time I went in the day after they'd finally baked another batch and I bought 4. That's one of few instances I've gotten cupcakes that were actually worth the price. Then There's days like today. Lemon...chocolate disgusting. It sounded disgusting, but I hadnt been to batch, or had a cupcake in months so I decided...hey I have a free cupcake so I bought one and grabbed another with my reward. When I picked them out of the container they were rock hard. They crumbled to pieces when I tried to separate the cap from the bottom part of the cake. I took one skeptical bite and spit it out. Way too stale, horrible flavor combination, just bad. I'll never be back. Hopefully they change their business practice to include...Oh I don't know, not selling stale cupcakes to customers and charging them pretty high for said stale cupcake. read more

I wasn't up for a cupcake but seen from the window that they had kombucha. (During covid I try my best to eat/shop local to help support businesses in my community) I asked what kind of kombucha they had and the employee named off 2 flavors. I asked is there anyway I would be able to do a taste test before I buy one. She just rolled her eyes at me and turned around without saying a word. I'm not sure what she started doing at the counter but I then just said "never mind it's ok" and walked out. I understand if doing a taste test is not allowed but, if she would've said "no, sorry I can't," I really would've just chose a flavor, but I got an eye roll with no response! I hate leaving bad reviews, but hopefully the owner will read this and try to fix the rude behavior, unless she was the owner (in that case-yikes!) What a cute little shop! I was so impressed with this place - so many choices, all organic ingredients, and catering to so many different dietary needs! Awesome! Paleo, vegan, gluten free and "gluteny", as my BF would say. The had plenty of different flavors available! We decided to bring a dozen ($32) back to the office because they all looked so delicious and we felt the need to share! We came in here 10 minutes before they closed on a whim on our way to a restaurant next door. Cupcakes were delicious, I got the cinfully maple cupcake. The frosting was my favorite part. The owners were extremely friendly and happy to help us so close to closing time. Good find and we will be back next time we are in Reno. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. I will NEVER return to this place, ever again. First off, the daughter of the owner needs a serious training in handling issues within the store! My mother graciously called on Tuesday of this week to have cupcakes delivered to me at the hospital. I was to be there several days for some serious things and my mom wanted me to have something nice. She asked them if they could send 6 red-velvet cupcakes. The woman who took the order said, and I quote, "We can send whatever you'd like!" My mom called the next day in the late afternoon (about 3:15pm) because she still had not received word they'd been delivered. The person who answered said "Oh yes. We have them right here. Let me call the manager and see if she can deliver them for you." WHAT?! My mom had to call and remind you they were to be delivered? When they arrived to me, I got a mixture of cupcakes, and it included ONE regular red velvet. I didn't know they weren't what my mom ordered until I told her what I had gotten. She then proceeded to tell me "That's not what I ordered for you." My mother then called the store to discuss this, to which the owners daughter answered the phone. My mom asked what happened to the order she placed. The lady told her that they had run out of regular red velvet and decided to send what they had on hand. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? My mom specifically asked if you could do red velvet! And had to call to remind you to deliver them! Our thoughts were you actually sold the ones you were supposed to send to me or you never even made what you were supposed to. The lady told us "Well we didn't have regular red velvet. We had gluten and vegan red velvet but you wouldn't like those. So we made a decisions and sent you what we had." (Mind you, I received one regular red velvet!! So how did you not have red velvet??) First, you DO NOT know what I like and do not like. I actually eat gluten free when I can, so it would have been a problem for me. Second, you didn't even call us to tell us. Or apologize to us in any possible way you could. AND my mother called that day to ask if you were still delivering my order. At that time, you could have told her the situation!! She would've told you to wait until Thursday, make me new ones and deliver what you promised. When we called this afternoon the lady who answered the phone claimed to be the owner. After pushing back on that answer she admitted her mother was actually the owner. I asked to speak with her and was told she wasn't there and didn't know when she'd return. "She works when she wants." I asked her if she felt what she had done was good customer service? She did not answer. I asked again and she said "No it's not.... but, but, but." This IS TERRIBLE customer service. My mother was not rude, until the woman on the phone provided us with such terrible customer service. We have asked for a call back from the OWNER, so I will update if that does not happen. After asking her for a refund she asked for the credit card number for my mom. Ummm no!! You screwed up before and you are extremely rude, so why would we then trust you with her credit card number??? They do not care about customer service! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! read more

I'm sorry to say that Batch has become hit or miss for me. I have been in quite a few times in the last year and more often than not I seem to be disappointed. Most recently was this past weekend. I had a Java Joe cupcake and my twin had a Keep Tahoe Blueberry. Mine was super dry and overly sweet, hers was quite tasty. That sums it up perfectly. This place isn't cheap, so it hurts my feelings when teh product isn't as expected. Luckily my twin was willing to share her tastiness. I'd also like to mention that all of their gluten free cupcakes taste the same. That was also an expensive lesson to learn! So save yourself the agony of deciding because it'll be the same regardless. If you are willing to gamble on a cupcake then hit place up. read more

Dropped by here yesterday and paid $20 for 6 cupcakes. For a bakery that stays open late, please help your business and find a way to serve fresh products. I stopped by around 3:30-4pm, got home around 15mins later to share these and everyone of them were dried out and the tops where crumbling apart, and the frosting tasted like cheap store icing. Not sure if it is a off day, but i would look into fixing this if you want returning customers. IMO- wasted $20 and we tossed out all 6. read more

Wow. I have NEVER been to a business where the customer service was so terrible. First when I ordered the cupcakes I asked if they did a strawberry shortcake kind of cupcake ( this was for my sisters bday and she celiac and pregnant) cause that's what my sister loves and the girl said yes. I asked if the cupcake would have real strawberries in it and on top of it and she said yes! So I ordered them. I picked up the cupcakes 2 days later and as I walked in to get my cupcakes there were 3 people standing behind the counter talking and NO ONE acknowledged me. I had to say something to get someone to help me. I get the cupcakes and they look ok.. I figured the strawberries were on top as well the inside like the girl said but I didn't see any on top. Ok so I leave and when it's time to serve the cupcakes after dinner, we cut the cupcakes in half for everyone to try and just as I thought NO strawberries. Then everyone takes a bite and spits the cupcakes out all at the same time. It was crazy. The cupcakes tasted HORRIBLE!!!! I couldn't believe it. So I tried to call and speak to a manager and she wasn't there. The employee had no clue when the mgr would come in. So I called for 4 days straight and still no mgr was around to help me. They didn't even know her last name or any other way to contact her. I was furious. This place is terrible. When I saw the bad reviews I still took a chance to try them out. Batch Cupcakery is located in Midtown Reno in a small shopping center with a parking lot and street parking. This place is a cute little bakery with mostly cupcakes and various other desserts. I heard about the vegan cupcake options through Yelp so I was super excited to try them out. It is my understanding that they also have some gluten free options. We came here at about 7pm on a Saturday evening, within an hour or so of closing. There weren't too many cupcakes left at that time but there were 2 vegan cupcake options (chocolate peanut butter and chocolate lemon) and a vegan whoopee pie (chocolate peanut butter) available. Not a fan of lemon so I purchased one chocolate pb cupcake and one chocolate pb whoopee pie to go. The employee at the counter was friendly enough but she stuffed my cupcake into a little paper treat bag thus unfortunately smushing all the frosting. Didn't make for a pretty sight. Since becoming vegan I've noticed it's tough to find tasty vegan desserts that don't compromise on texture. Let me tell you, THESE ARE SO MOIST AND FLUFFY! No compromise on flavor or texture whatsoever! The chocolate cake is moist and rich and the peanut butter frosting adds a great complementing taste. It is a teeny bit on the sweet side but I just scrape 1/3 of it off and it's perfect! The whoopee pie was also delicious, it is a slightly cakier version than the cupcake with (I think) the same peanut butter frosting. They are both pretty large servings, too! Definitely satisfied my huge sweet tooth. I am excited to come here next time I'm in town to try some different vegan flavors.
