Got fleeced into watching Burlesque, but in terms of the place itself. Very crammed, unnecessarily loud music, especially near the entrance. Drinks were pretty mid, and the spicy drink they had really got me, man I did not do so well with it. Espresso martini was what you expected, and yea they have a large gin selection, but didn't feel like I had to come here to drink it, and the atmosphere was not really conducive to trying to really taste you drink anyway. Bathtub Gin is a great speakeasy located near the Chelsea Market and a variety of transit options - oh! and it is also not terribly far from the High Line. The speakeasy is hidden behind a coffee shop, so you may be confused as to where to enter, but it should be easy once you see the bouncer outside. We had reservations and thankfully so - this place was packed! I wouldn't advise going without reservations as you may wait a while. They have free coat check when you walk in - I also advise taking advantage of this because the space is tiny and you won't have much room to store a bulky coat. Make sure to tip the coat check person! This person will also check you in and show you to your table. As I said, the space is pretty tiny and tables are quite close together. We didn't go on a show night, but I'd like to return to see a burlesque show. I had the low ABV drink - Sloe n Easy and it was just that, it went down very easy. My friend tried two of the gin and tonics, and I also tried one. I never had a gin and tonic but I think it may be my new favorite drink. They have a selection of various different gin and tonics - I had the Stray Dog that had a lavender garnish. We also enjoyed the charcuterie board and the tableside s'mores were a treat. Fantastic dimly-lit bar with great drinks and an intimate atmosphere. The servers are pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu offerings. A reservation is recommended here, as they get busy for happy hour on days that they offer shows. Make sure to read the fine print about surcharges on these days as well -- performers certainly deserve to get paid for their time, and customers should be making an informed decision. The only note I can offer is a mindful consideration for the garnishes on drinks -- a golden rule for service is not to garnish something you cannot eat -- as one of the cocktails came garnished with baby's breath. While it is generally safe, some people can experience gastrointestinal issues or allergic reactions from ingesting it. Secret bar that lives up to the hype. Location: At 4:55 pm, we arrived slightly before the opening of Bathtub Gin. Their daytime storefront was closing and the secret bar was opening. As people peacefully lined the street, it did not seem so secret but people were excited to get in. Pro-top #1 - Get a reservation, we were a group of four and got a premium table because we reserved in advance. The other fellow patient patrons slowly entered but I notice those with reservations may have receive preferred seating which makes sense right. The bathtub in this spot is close to the back of the restaurant near the a bathrooms (no pun intended). If you want a photo around there, it is pretty low light and surrounded by tables so we did snap a few photos but it was not as much a set piece or prop and more adding to the ambience of this spot. Food and Drink: Cocktails are the name of the game and they deliver high quality and strong drinks across the board. I would ask for recommendations because there are some hidden items or specialty drinks that may be discovered asking your server. The food items were not heavy or complicated so they complemented the drinks. The surprise was the s'mores dessert at the end of the night. The interactive making of this class camping item was fabulous and fun. Service: We had quick and efficient service throughout the night. The gender neutral bathrooms with mini-bathtubs are not to be missed to see but I wonder of the utility of having a bathroom attendant stationed there. In 2023, this type of service does not feel needed unless it is a security protocol but I dislike the awkwardness of this staffing choice which again is not wrong but suboptimal choice in my opinion. Sum up: Make a reservation in advance, order your favorite drinks, toast to secret fun and don't forget the s'mores. read more

It would be five stars for me except seating is a little tight and I once made a reservation for three and they tried to squeeze us into a two seater which wouldn't have worked so we had to go somewhere else for dinner. I go to Bathtub Gin solely for their burlesque show and I am never disappointed. It's a must-do every time I visit NYC. On my last visit, there was an issue which resulted in the reservation that I had made for my party of three being cancelled. If you know Bathtub Gin, you know that you MUST make a reservation for the burlesque show because it's always a full house. After talking to the manager for some time, it seemed as though there was nothing that he could do and all hope was lost. THANKFULLY, he was able to work his magic and sit us all at the bar. This actually ended up being my favorite visit because the bartenders were so funny. They honestly made our night. Yes, the drinks are expensive, but the show is free so it's worth it to me. The hostess kindly let us know they needed the table back in about half an hour, which was plenty of time for one drink. The speakeasy was easy enough to find and they allowed me to walk in and sit at the bar for a limited time period. I only have 1 hr at the bar before the next reservation, however, I was only there for 1 drink. I ordered a take on a gin fizz, at the bartenders recommendation and it was delicious! It's sweet but refreshing, almost like one of those dangerous drinks which if you have several you can get drunk easily. My husband had the Juan Guerra Margarita and it was a bit too spicy for his taste but a different drink to try. My only call out for the environment overall - the place is small and there is no ventilation (no windows and the only main door was closed the entire time). Went here for a drinks and snacks for a friends birthday over the weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience! A pro tip, is to get there early! We got there when it opened and we're able to get a nice table without a reservation on a Saturday. You can also make a reservation if you're not a last minute planner like myself... lol For food we got the chickpea falafels and herb fries, the chef brought this out for us himself! It was fantastic, super fresh and the flavors were perfectly balanced. Loved the freshness of the herby fries and also the medley of flavors in the falafel were well balanced with the tzatziki sauce.
