My husband bought my ring from Mr. Batky about 6 years ago. We have since moved out of state, but the soldering come off about 2 years ago. So when I had a business trip planned to Dallas, I called Mr. Batky to bring it by and have the solder fixed and the ring cleaned. I said I would need it that day or at latest, the next morning, but I could make an appointment. He said he could have it done the next morning, first thing. When I dropped off the ring, Mr. Batky wrote up a receipt for the value of the ring that was about 30% less than what I know my husband paid for it. I asked him, "What is this?" and he said "The value of your ring, for proof when you come back to pick it up." "Well, I know my husband paid about XXX for it," I said. "No, I don't think so," Mr. Batky said. "It is not worth that much." (I checked the receipt later, and indeed, we paid the larger amount that I had remembered). To top things off though, Mr. Batky told me that it would be about $200 to fix the solder on my ring and clean it. "That's funny," I thought. "I thought this would be free of charge since my husband bought the ring here, and your soldering has come off, which should not happen." But nonetheless, I said, "sure, no problem." When I came in the next morning at 10AM, I asked for my ring, and he said "It won't be ready until 2PM." (My flight was at 12PM at DFW). "No, no." I said. "You promised it this morning at latest, and my flight is in 2 hours", I said. "Ok, I'll have it ready in 30 minutes," he said. So my friend and I just walked around in the store looking. Now, here is where the REALLY insulting part comes in. If he had said anything like "I'm sorry, but I need to go to the back to fix your ring" (which I know he wasn't the one that was going to do it, because there was a guy in the back soldering something else), or if he had said "My insurance doesn't allow me to have more than 1 person at a time in the store while I am the only one up front" or ANYTHING than what he actually said, I would have been a little more understanding. Instead he said, "Do you girls plan on buying anything today?" And literally SNATCHED the ring out of my friend's hand as she was looking at it. To which my friend replied to me, "Oh, like I don't have the money to shop here?" (I won't go into her personal family details, or divulged who she is or how she is connected, but believe me, she could buy anything she wants in that store and then some). I said to Mr. Batky, "You know I had been looking at a ring that my husband wanted to give me for my birthday and mother's day, made from my children's birthstones and my birthstone (diamond, sapphire and ruby). To which he replied, "I don't think your husband would like that very much." (which is a dumb thing to say, since my husband was the one wanting to buy it). "Well, luckily for me, I have my own money," I replied, since I didn't know how else to respond to that inane remark. We ended up just leaving, because we were so insulted. (As a side note, I went to another jeweler in San Francisco to have my birthday/mother's day ring made, which costs just as much as my engagement ring, so business lost for Batky). But I had to come back for my engagement ring from Batky, which still wasn't ready until 11AM. Luckily, I had no bags to check and made my flight in the nick of time at DFW. Worse than this though, I said to Mr. Batky, "Do you see this on my ring? I saw it when it was dirty, and just figured it was dirt, but what is this?" and he said, "I don't see anything." "This, right here." I kept insisting. He finally replied, "Oh, that's an inclusion." "Well, it's supposed to be an SI1, and I don't think you should be able to see an SI1 inclusion with the naked eye." I told him. And he said, "Maybe your diamond has been switched?" And I said, "You're the only one that has ever had it in the 6 years I've had my ring." To which he replied nothing, and I had a flight to catch. So, I have my papers from the diamond, and you better believe I'm getting a second opinion appraisal and seeing what quality of diamond I actually have. Yes, the design is gorgeous. But he was so rude and condescending that I would not recommend anyone buying here. On top of that, unless you bring a diamond expert with you, I would not be confident of the diamond you are getting. I mean, he pretty much told me himself that we overpaid by 30%, and I'm not even sure what quality of diamond I actually have, even though it is a certified diamond with papers. My husband did his homework before buying the ring, and had heard such wonderful things about Mr. Batky that he felt he could trust him. Obviously, now, we feel very differently. read more

I worked with Mr. Batky when my wife and I were looking for her wedding band. We had not planned on having a custom ring made but stopped into his shop one afternoon out of curiosity. When we sat down with Richard we were immediately impressed by his knowledge and craftsmanship. As I described to him what we were looking for, he began to doodle on the back of an old piece of paper. After a few moments, he held up the paper and asked, "like this?" - he was dead on. We were able to get a custom, hand crafted piece of jewelry we love in-line with our budget and in a timely manner. My engagement ring was passed down to me and I didn't know much about it. Mr Batky was so welcoming and nice, did the appraisal, and was very helpful in telling me more about diamonds in general, the metal type, approximately how old it was, etc right on the spot. It looked 100x better after he cleaned it and one prong was slightly loose so he fixed that for me. He also made the two bands I wanted to match my ring perfectly, and way faster than I expected. He understood what I wanted right away, they came out beautifully and everything is just as I had pictured. I can't wait till the wedding so I can actually wear them. Great Service! I had a wonderful experience at Batky Jewelers. I took in a set of sterling silver earrings that had broken (extremely tiny chains that had managed to unhook, and really didn`t think they could be saved) and asked if they would be able to fix them. The lady took them to the back, and about 10 minutes later came to the front with them fixed! The customer service at Batky Jewelers is wonderful, and they had some pretty amazing pieces as well!
